Excellent
This is an excellent, well-rounded book. Covers every imaginable aspect of qmail, and resolved my ongoing issues with spam and other crazy configuration issues I've been having. If you're looking for the best qmail resource available, this is it.

Good solid book. Everything you need to install and admin.
I had 2 days to get a proper Unix-style mail system up and running at work-- even though I had never done anything in Linux past clicking next-next-next in a Red Hat install. This book not only made it easy to install and administer qmail, it actually made me a fan of the qmail software. I've never worked with anything that made so much sense. I am a Windows programmer.

The only book you need for qmail
Very simple, this is the only book you need for qmail. I've run qmail servers for several years, and I still found Dave's writing to be very interesting. It's the expanded version of Life with Qmail, the indispensible starting point for qmail administrator. Go buy it.

Great resource
A book to keep on your desk at work and give to any person who writes marketing or technology documents, emails, other correspondence. Easy to look up subject areas in the index.

One of my most-recommended books for technical people
I manage a team of software developers. Like me, they and other technical people tend to be too verbose in their emails, not being clear about what action needs to be taken, formatting poorly, etc.

What we learn liberal arts colleges is an academic communication style that is too verbose, takes too long to get to the point, and full of information in all the wrong places. Technical schools, on the other hand, often don't teach anything about writing, sometimes leaving their graduates unclear on how to communicate except on detailed, technical subjects.

Booher has written a very accessible book that addresses good writing from a non-pedantic, not-your-high-school-english class perspective.

I kept this book at my side while writing a proposal that had to be content-dense yet short and readable. I have since bought several copies of her book to hand out to people around the office.

Communication is very difficult, made even harder by the 'words only' content of email. Today we are interacting primarily in email with our customers and the management chain. Booher explains how to significantly increase the chance that your emails are read and acted upon, providing good boosts to your career, reduced chances of "what do you mean you asked me to do something?" problems, and ways for you to improve your reputation as an effective, competent employee.

Her attention to whitespace and formatting is, in my opinion, very useful. I've since become a lot more aware of how much more readable my communications are when I take time to include lists, blank lines, headers, etc. to help the reader break up my content into digestable chunks. A key learning: remembering that the reader is not simply waiting on the edge of his chair to devour every word of my carefully crafted email but, rather, sees it as yet another stream of words in the midst of a flood that he has to quickly evaluate for its usefulness and relevance.

She includes many "Good", "Bad", "Okay but could be better" examples for those who learn by example, rules for those who like rules, and just the right amount of verbiage to convey the concepts without violating her own rules of conciseness.

I have not found the 'email ettiquette' portions nearly as useful, nor the detailed grammar section. But if you're new to office email, or need a brushup on your high school grammar (complete with good examples), you will find them helpful.

Despite those two sections, I found the book gave more than enough value for its cost, and it has earned a place on my short 'review on occassion and keep close to hand' list of books.

From the length of this review, you can see I haven't completely mastered all of her techniques. But she has led to noticable improvements in my writing, and I'm on the right path.

E-Mail and More
When I first picked-up this book, I expected a pedantic approach to creating quick-and-dirty e-mails. There is some attention to e-mail correspondence, but this volume is considerably more comprehensive than what I expected. Young people, particularly, highly oriented to computers and e-mail will benefit greatly from this book. So will people in administrative roles where writing clearly and succinctly is so critically important in this sped-up world.

After 60-some pages on writing for the electronic medium, Booher launches into a wealth of material on good writing principles in general. On one hand, one could say this content takes us away from the title of the book. On the other hand, what Booher has done is really valuable for the reader: everything you need to know to put together good letters, memos, reports, proposals, meeting minutes-it's all here in one place. There's even a five-chapter section on editing!

Want more than this? Bonuses include a glossary of grammatical terms (Miss Hardy would have loved for me to know all this stuff back in high school). E-Writing will serve as a good reference manual as well as a helpful book to read from cover to cover. The layout makes it easy to understand, as well as find what you're looking for. The comprehensive index is also helpful.

a master's methods
thomas mails' honesty and humility in recognition of the potent and vibrant personality of fool's crow allows him to become a nearly transparent medium for this account of a shaman's personal methods and rituals.

at their most effecftive, shamanistic rituals use p[hysical symbols to trigger and continue cycles of effect and reaction between the individual practitioner and the world-system as a whole. this book doesn't go into great depth in presenting the fundamental metaphysic of the native american heritage that fool's crow continued, but provides a rich and meticulously detailed account of demonstrations of its practice by a healer, teacher and leader.

this book may tempt immitators and pretenders; they might find themselves playing with fire. this volume should not be taken as a single source outside of the greater context of the heritage it celebrates and partially describes, but it can be a valuable supplementary resource for a careful student, or the agile and humble explorer.

A book that opens a door
The legacy of Fools Crow is his wisdom & power as a Lakota medecine man. The path he walked, as a man called to serve his people & the Great Spirit, is recalled in this book. His simple message is that all of us can be "hollow bones" for the Great Spirit to work through. The reader learns that the power & wisdom of Frank Fools Crow's life was in his detachment from ego and submission to a higher force. Some readers may only be interested in the ceremonies & rituals described in the book. However, the message is the spirit of the man & his committment to his God & to his people. I can not imagine that any reader can walk away from this book untouched.

Remarkable - simply a must read!
This is one of the most remarkable books I have ever read! If you want a book that will draw you closer to God, regardless of your religion or beliefs, this is the book. Frank Fools Crow will teach you by his example what a holy life truly is and the power that will naturally flow from living this type of life.

The beauty of the traditional way of the Sioux is also captured in this book. Yet Fools Crow reaches to the heart of all people with the love he freely gives. Fools Crow's many gifts are laid out here - his healing ability, his compassion. It is made clear these are gift's that come from God, not man, and as are to be shared with all.

I'd love to see a sequel!
Grant and Olinger write beautifully. They play off of one another in a way that is sparklingly easy and fun to read. It was a great deal like reading the transcript from a good comedy in some sections. I liked the book very much and felt as though I was saying goodbye to two new friends I'd grown very fond of when it ended. WRITE US A SEQUEL GUYS!

A truly enjoyable book
At first, I thought that He Mail/She Mail would be about the conflicts between the genders, but I was very wrong. Instead, it is a delightful and insightful book about the benefits of "anonymous" communication on the Internet where feelings and thoughts can be stated and expressed w/o anxiety.

A terrific and entertaining book for when you are in the mood for "light" reading. The ultimate book for reading by the pool.

The best Christmas gift I ever got!
I received this book as a gift from an employee for Christmas this year. It arrived two days before the holiday and I'd finished it by Christmas night. I had a really hard time putting it down. I find myself wondering if the two writers still converse, if they've ever met in real life, and if they plan to do more together. It was like eavesdropping with permission, or having a terrific dinner conversation with two old friends. I loved the book and love the fact that the money from its purchase went to charity.

A WONDERFUL MATCH IN THE MINING FIELD
When Kathleen Elizabeth Murphy arrives in Orion, Colorado, she finds that there has been a cave-in at The King Mine. She pitches right in helping the injured and maimed. Here she meets Trev without realizing who he is. Then she is told that her intended was one of the dead men.

Trev is suspicious of the cave in but cannot prove any foul play. He is also a single father trying to provide for his children, baby Brynn and 4 year old Annabel Lee. He also has to deal with the unkind people who think the child is touched in the head. I enjoyed his friendship and jealousy of "Laddie", a young seventeen year old miner who was interested in Kate.

I will not forget the scene when Kate runs away from the crying Brynn only to be accosted by a drunken miner. But she does go back and try again. Apparently she has had no experience with children. But they do muddle through.

The slowly evolving attraction between Trev and Kate is backdropped by the troubles in the silver mines and the troublemaker who are trying to get rid of Trev.

Kate eventually runs up against the men plotting Trev's downfall and risks her life to save little Annie and Brynn.
What a wonderful connection developed between her and Trev's children.

I was most happy to find out about their extended family in the second book HIS UNEXPECTED WIFE.

Definitely recommended --M - one you will enjoy.

Five stars just aren't enough!!!
This book deserves more than five stars!!! It is a sweet and enchanting love story that will keep you glued to the pages until you've read the last word.

Kate Murphy goes to Orion to become a mail-order bride. The day she arrives there is a cave-in at the mine and her intended is killed. She is left all alone in a strange town with little money. She is then taken in by Mrs. Hartwick, an old widow. Kate wants to get a job to earn enough money to move away from the mining town. She gets a job working for Trev Trevelyan, the mine superintendent, babysitting his two children. His daughter won't speak due to prior events but takes to Kate immediately.

This story is just so romantic. The love between Trev and Kate grows slowly and that makes it believeable. There isn't the normal man and woman hate each other element that so many romance books have. Kate and Trev are both attracted to each other but due to past experiences and current circumstances they don't want to lay their hearts on the line.

I just can't say enough about this book. It is an excellent read for a day outside in the sun or a rainy day inside. No matter the weather outside this book will warm your heart and soul.

Couldn't Put It Down
What a great book!!! I read thru this book in 2 days.
You will fall inlove with Trev Trevelyan as soon as you set eyes on him!!!
The romance with Kate and Trev takes place slowly, so it is realistic. Her love for the Trevelyans and the hysterical mishaps with the children are endearing.
I highly recommend you read this book. Or any book by Maureen McKade for that matter.

I've Got Mail!
Published in Hardcover by Little Mai Press (01 October, 2001)
Authors: Robert Messinger and John Salerno
Amazon base price: $12.95
Average review score:

Great Bedtime Reading!
Robert Messinger's new rhyming book, I've Got Mail!, is about a little girl who becomes intrigued with e-mail. It also supports my theory that children are more knowledgeable about the world than I was when I was growing up. But then again, I knew what an A-bomb was and how to take shelter.

This charming tale is of seven-year-old Laura who looks back over her life when she was a baby and her interest in the 'puter. Every evening Laura and her Daddy would log on and he would read his mail.

But it was those three little words, "You've got mail" that fascinated the tyke. She longed and wished to get e-mail of her own. But Laura must first make a promise to her Daddy before she gets an account of her own. (A lesson for Moms and Dads that supervision is a must.)

My five-year-old nephew, Joseph, loved Laura's tale, but now he wants his own e-mail account! Needless to say, my brother is not very happy with me.

John Salerno's illustrations are colorful, fun, and childlike without being condescending.

I've Got Mail! is a fun, happy book, sure to give those little ones happy thoughts before they go to sleep!

what a thrill!
Since she was an infant, Laura has been bouncing on her father's lap as he works on his computer. She laughs at his "mouse" & giggles at all the words he uses.

In the blink of an eye, or so it seems to Laura's Dad, she is ready & eager to learn how the computer works. Together they set up her own book, where her favorite pictures are kept.

Laura feels, somehow, that something is still missing. One day when her Dad opens up his email program & that chirpy voice tells him he's got mail, six-year old Laura knows that that's what's missing! She wants her own email, her Dad sets about helping her, & she writes a note to her best friend.

John Salerno's illustrations vividly portray the excitement & charm of this poetic adventure that just about every modern family is now enjoying.

I'VE GOT MAIL! will make a really fine Fathers' Day Gift - hint, hint!

Great book to share with a child
I'm not an editor or book reviewer, but I am a mother and have done my share of reading aloud. This book was a delight--so much that I bought another copy for my neighbor to read to her preschoolers. Children ARE fascinated when they see us using computers, and this book not only speaks to the child's point of view but will also encourage parents to see that they are the best ones to start their children's exploration of cyber space. Why wait for the schools to teach them and hope that the important safety message gets through? This book just provides an enjoyable way to teach without preaching and share this experience with your child.

Keep it handy...you'll be referring back to this one often
MacPherson's book is packed full of great tips and advice for those of us just starting down the path of permission email marketing. And for the small conclave of experts who have lived the real-world highs and lows of this fast-evolving marketing medium, you'll find it a valuable, credible resource too. So whether you're an ad agency exec looking to WOW a client with your insight, a marketing manager implementing your own email program, or a small business owner searching for a practical guide, this is the book for you. It weaves in just the right amount of charts, tick-lists, best practices and case studies to make it a lively read. You'll find yourself referring back to this book often as you implement your own campaign.

Great book on e-mail marketing campaigns
Kim MacPherson's book on e-mail marketing is a really good read. This book, along with Seth Godin's Permission Marketing are quite similar and both are very easy to read. If you want to learn more about internet marketing I would highly encourage you to read Seth Godin's book Unleashing the IdeaVirus, which deals with viral marketing in businesses and might help create additional marketing opportunities from the e-mail marketing campaigns you learn to set up with Ms. MacPherson's book.

The book is packed with great tips and advice for those of us just starting down the path of permission email marketing. The case histories of good and bad practices alike provide strong insights on communications and etiquette. Most importantly, this book explains the terms of email marketing and, for someone more experienced, it helps you calculate costs and your ROI (return on investment) from the campaign.

All and all I would highly recommend this book as it is a practical guide for professional marketers and aspiring Internet Entrepreneurs. I've seen a lot of email marketing books, and this is the best how-to book. If you combined this book with the underpinnings you can get from reading Seth Godin's Permission Marketing you will have the subject matter down cold.

Practical guide for email marketing - excellent!
As a principal of a design firm who recently started offering email marketing to our clients I found this book invaluable. I have used it to educate our company and have recommended it to clients and at speaking engagements.

It is a really practical guide and makes it easy for anyone to put a permission-based email marketing campaign together. For the novice it explains the terms of email marketing, for someone more experienced, it helps you calculate costs and your ROI (return on investment). The case studies are informative too.

Great book for a new marketing medium
Any book that Bob Bly is associated with is bound to be good--no, great! And this one is no exception.

The author explores this new, exciting medium we call email and uncovers its powerful potential for direct response selling. It leads you through the basic techniques of marketing through email. What works and what doesn't. Most importantly, it steers you clear of potential pitfalls inherent in this new medium--like how to avoid spamming, etc..

A great book on email marketing that is thorough, timely, and bound to become a classic in its field.

These Authors Know Their Stuff!
These authors know their stuff. They've been very instrumental in helping Ancestry.com grow to over 320,000 paid subscribers over the past 18 months. Email Marketing is now one of our largest sources of subscriptions. I recommend this book for both beginner and expert alike.

This is the definitive book on e-mail marketing
***** FIVE STARS***** Excellent..... If you are an executive looking for information on how email marketing will impact your business, you'll want to read this book.

If you want to know how the pros are using email marketing buy this book.

It details the differences between opt in permission based lists, and SPAM, and how to avoid the pitfalls that can literally kill your business. It comes complete with information on where you can find the best email lists and email marketing services in the business.

It identifies the different types of copy, formatting, text Vs HTML, rich media, etc, and provides insight into which may be best for your business. I've been asking everyone about timing of our messages. No one was able to give me a clear answer that made any sense. This book gave me great insight into the time and day that is best for me to do my email transmissions... and the auothor's information produced immediate positive results for us.

Aside from the practical knowledge, I also liked this book because the author's share the latest thinking about where this medium is going, and what steps to take today to make sure that your business reaps the rewards of the future.

This book is not just for dot comers. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone involved in the sales and marketing of their company's products and services.

This book is now the definitive resource on email marketing.
