REALLY A FOUR PLUS BUT-
I really had to chuckle when Dora Sutton ran into Grey St. Bride. But he did seem to make a snap judgement without looking into Dora's staying power.

It was fascinating the way her helping Emmet Meeks in his time of need, as St. Bride leaves the Island helps her growing and learning and secures her a place on St. Bride Island.

Now Grey St. Bride does not seem to know how to handle the attraction that he feels for Dora. It just isn't reasonable.

I loved the way she corralled the two women that were next in line to become brides. Poor St. Brides' theory of pairing up his men just wasn't working. There were choices to be had.

There was a certain amount of underlying humor in the way the brides finally made their choices. I was sure rooting for Dora to bring Bertie over and low and behold didn't she show up. I about fell over when she kept running after Mouse. Love that man.

For all of Dora's plans - the bakery etc. - that fell through she did finally land her man. But surely could have done without the PMS. Am definitely decided that I do not want to experience any hurricane. Brrrr!

Definitely recommended --M - great light read - most characters are so lovable.

Wonderful!
Bronwyn Williams does it again. I just finished this book this morning. I wasn't too sure I would like it at first, but I certainly did. I laughed a lot at the poor old hero, Grey. His mail-order bride plans just sort of blew up in his face. He was wonderful. And heroine Dora is the kind I like the best. She has boot straps to spare. What a neat love story.

I love the stories that are done in the Outer Banks. The hurricaine in this story really happened. If you've ever lived thru one, you'll certainly empathize with these folks as they live thru it and pick up in the aftermath.

Unforgettable characters. Laugh with them, cry with them.
Several of Williams's historicals begin with the heroine arriving by boat, but as the setting is so often an island, it works. In this case, the heroine is running away. She runs headlong into the hero--a charming, irritating, immovable object--she is forced to change and grow. The character development alone makes it a great read, but the secondary characters are utterly endearing and unforgettable. Maybe not Williams's best effort, but close to it. I loved it!

Hard to let go of.
I realize that they are postcards, but I don't think I am going to be able to send them to anyone. I lvoe the artwork too much. The colors aren't quite true to the actual pieces, but I am sure it was mass-produced. Other than that, these are beautiful miniatures of the real thing.

A definite good buy...
I bought these cards so that I could have 'tiny works of art' to hang in my cubicle at work. I have people passing by all the time and asking about them. I studied art history in college, so any chance I get to teach someone a bit about art thrills me. Because these cards come in a book of 24, I also have a few cards left over to send.

A good buy!

Cuts down on time to produce an effective e-policy
This book covers all of the key points and provides some excellent topics to include in a corporate e-policy. The goal of this book is to aid you in developing a policy that will provide clear, enforceable guidelines to your employees in the acceptable use of the Internet and electronic mail, and to protect your company's image.

It starts out with a well developed approach to assessing your current situation with respect to Internet and software usage, and provides a handy list of questions to aid in this task. The key objective is to discover your company's exposures and what abuse of systems or services [if any] need to be immediately addressed by the policy.

In order to fully understand the results of your assessment and how they relate to risks and exposures, the author provides fundamentals of "cyberlaw" and general security concerns that will indicate, roughly, the degree of risk your company faces. These are important considerations for tailoring an e-policy to which your employees can relate. I liked the chapter on cyber insurance products and how they can be used to transfer some of the inherent risks to an underwriter. I didn't even know such policies existed. The author also addresses software piracy, which can be a big issue because the world wide web has many sources for pirated software (commonly called "Warez"). It goes without saying that pirated software can expose your company to legal headaches and expenses, not to mention technical headaches and lost productivity that will occur if that stolen software also comes with a virus attached.

The book then shows you how to develop an e-policy that is based on your assessment results, and the issues previously discussed in the book. What is valuable here is that the author provides a list of all elements that need to be included in the policy. Moreover the next chapters provide additional material that will prove to be invaluable in preparing your company for the policy. For example, there is a "Netiquette" primer for employees, on-line writing guidelines, and advice on training your employees. The training aspect of implementing an e-policy is especially important because many employees have home computers and are experienced Internet users. They might consider themselves to be experts and may resent being "constrained" by a policy that dictates how they use the Internet at work. Educating them and getting their "buy-in" is essential, and the author provides some effective ways to get that "buy-in".

I found the sample policies in the appendices to be particularly valuable to use as guidelines for drafting a clearly-worded policy that covers all key elements. The applicable laws cited in the appendices were also valuable because they indicate the many sources of legal risks (and protection) that touch an e-policy.

This book provides an excellent starting point for developing an effective e-policy that can be closely tailored to your company and "sold" to your employees. Its clear writing, completeness and sensible advice earn it 5 stars. I will offer one caveat: any e-policy developed based on this book or any other should not be issued until it has been carefully reviewed by legal counsel. I am not an attorney (I am a computer consultant by profession), however, I do know that such a policy touches so many aspects of privacy and employment law that you may put your company at greater risk by implementing a policy that has not been reviewed by qualified legal counsel than by having no policy at all.

From workplace piracy to e-theft insurance
This key to designing and implementing email and software policies in a company structure provides business owners and managers with important information on how to produce clear policies which regulate computer use. From workplace piracy to e-theft insurance, Nancy Flynn's The ePolicy Handbook covers a wide range of topics and concerns.

A Killer Behind the Scenes
Christina Ann English, child model turned young teen actress, has just received her biggest break in motion pictures. She's been chosen among dozens of other hopeful girls to costar with Kurt Richmond, a major teen heart throb, in an upcoming horror flick called "Dark Memories." Along with Christina, a few other high school drama students are picked to be extras and miscellaneous crew members, including Christina's friendly ex-boyfriend, John Washington, and his jealous sister, Beryl.

At first, everything's going perfectly for Christina, until she starts receiving harassing phone calls. And then someone breaks into her trailer several times to leave more twisted messages. Who's been stalking Christina and wants her dead--her freaky director, Theodore Dreising; her egotistical costar who can't handle rejection; the new guy (Steve Jackson) she's just met who has a shrine of her in his gym locker--or is it someone else on the set?

If you're a teen girl, you'll probably like "Fan Mail." The stalker was somewhat obvious to me, but most younger readers will still find this book scary enough.

Awesome Book!!
This is one of the best books I have ever read. It kept me guessing untill the very end. I liked the plot. Christina is a young actress she is cast as the starring role in a new horor movie. She is then stalked and finds notes written in blood. I would reccomend this book to anyone.

Very useful, the only one of it's kind...
For the fruit nut, this reference is indispensible. When ordering specific varieties, we use it to source stock from nurseries. When searching for trees with certain characteristics, we peruse the descriptions, hunting for certain words (in the pear section, "fireblight-resistant", in the apricot section, "excellent flavor", etc.).
Few complaints: not revised often enough to list new varieties as they come on the market. For example, 'Goldrush' apple is not listed. Descriptions are very brief, probably due to space limitations. Descriptions are also generally a summary of the nursery catalog's text, and therefore not as useful as they could be.
In general, a very fun reference to keep on the shelf.

Excellent Sourcebook for Fruit and Nut Varieties
In the third edition of this excellent reference, the Seed Savers Exchange has provided a very useful tool for nurseries and gardeners to locate sources of heirloom fruit, nut and berry varieties. But it is much more than just a sourcebook, as there are brief descriptions of each fruit variety and indications of how rare or threatened each variety is based on the number of sources. Nursery operators and fruit gene bank managers will find this book to be indespensible!

One of the good books I dearsay !!!
Covers reasonable amount of JMS. As an SCJA I recommand this book, since you don't have much choices this should do !!

Network Computing Using JMS
A lucid and authoritative description of Java Message
Service, from Sun Microsystems, which developed and
owns it. JMS is designed for an environment of
distributed computers, where applications need to
communicate with each other and databases across the
network. You can think of JMS as one of the enablers
of Sun's longtime slogan "The Network IS The
Computer".

JMS is loosely coupled distributed networking, where
the sender and receiver do not have to be running at
the same time. Plus they do not need to know each
other's methods, quite unlike RMI [a tightly coupled
technology]. This makes for potentially much greater
flexibility in network computing.

The book emphasises this, with detailed examples of
source code showing how to use JMS with Enterprise
Java Beans, another technology invented by Sun. You
can see how to hook JMS to a session bean or an entity
bean, and how to combine JMS with several Message
Driven Beans. The text is clearly written, with
attention paid to how you can run the examples under
Microsoft Windows or Unix.

The book also suggests two sequels. It describes using JMS with J2EE, the Java Enterprise Edition, which is the full Java environment. But in a world of PDAs, cell phones and other mobile gadgets, what would be interesting is a description of JMS running under a slimmed down Java environment, like kvm, and how this would scale with the number of devices. A second sequel might be a comparison of JMS with JXTA, another Sun technology for mobile computing. Who know? Perhaps Sun is already working on this!

If you are programming in a distributed computing
environment, consider using JMS as an enabling
technology, and this book as its indispensible guide.

Give your camper a copy!
Like father like son! If you remember Bill Adler's Letters from Camp you will enjoy this delightfully humorous, audacious & cute collection of missives from your munchkins! Lot of 21st century rainy days, bunk rot, virtual trips, falling down mountains, strange new camp customs, computer comedy, counsellor shenanigans, ahhas! about peanut butter & chewing gum, skunks & lightning.

Often it's what is NOT said that is hair-raising!

Summer is around the corner, parents why don't you wise-up & pack a copy in your campers' luggage - that way you might get some inspired & funny messages while they are gone!

The Adlers have done it again -- to perfection!
This book is a remake of the famous and huge best-seller, "Kids Letters from Camp" written more than 40 years ago. In this modern version, "Kids E-Mail and Letters from Camp" Bill Adler Jr., son of Bill Adler, has captured the sweetness, poignancy and side-splitting humor of what kids send home via the internet as well as through written letters and postcards. Just as the original reflected the 1950s, this book reflects our current life. (Read both and you'll see some amazing changes in our society.) For example, yesterday's asked for 'CARE" packages with candy. Today's kids are asking for their parents to send them new and interesting fonts for their computers at camp. Some things are the same, though. Kids still won't eat their vegetables.

A good introduction to Outlook 98
A quick step-by-step guide to the most important functionality of Outlook 98. Outlook is complicated, this book is an easy read and will allow users to master the daily operation of Outlook to organize there personal information.

The book as appendix on installation and working remotely. Also there is "light" treatment of using Outlook in a workgroup environment.

I was craving more advanced topics, but this book is what most users will need.

Only way to get the CD
The only reason I bought this book is because it comes with a CD with the MS Outlook 98 software on it. It is the only way that I know of to get this version of the software at this point.

The Best Version Of Outlook
I'd been looking for this version of Outlook for quite some time. It's better than Outlook 97, and faster and less bloated than Outlook 2000 or later. The book (with CD) arrived quickly and was in like new condition -- just as was stated. Excellent value!

A very Worth While Book!
This book is all about Ida Kate. When her Mother dies, she is left all he chores, and can't attend school. A friend of Ida Kate's mother dies also. Her father sent away for a mail bride (that is where two people send lots of letters, and then the lady comes and they get married). Her friend's step-mother was very nice, so Ida Kates father decided to try. When Caroline (his mail bride) gets there she brings a big surprise with her. This is a very good story!

Intriguing Riddle
It's 1878. Ida Kate Deming and her father live on a farm on the Kansas prairie, several miles from the nearest town. Since the death of Ida Kate's mother, she has had to take on the household chores: cleaning, mending, cooking, etc. It's a big job for a young girl, and it doesn't leave enough time for Ida Kate to attend school or see her friends much. Small wonder, then, that Ida Kate is excitedly looking forward to the arrival of the mail-order bride that is coming from back east to marry her father. Trouble arrives with the new member of the family, however. Her hair is the wrong color, she's too short, she cooks too well and sings too well, she isn't allergic to the cat, and her handwriting is different from the handwriting in the letters they received. Who is this woman, really? What happened to the woman Ida Kate and her father were expecting?

While portraying the hardships of life on the frontier in the late 1800's, "Riddle Of The Prairie Bride" also gives kids an intriguing mystery to sink their teeth into. "Formulaic" it may be, but this is fine for kids. A plot with too many complications could be overwhelm a young reader. My ten-year-old daughter got quite caught up in this tale, and wanted to "keep reading" each evening until we finished it. Readers of other "history mysteries" will not be disappointed with this one. If you have never read one, give one a try.

A great new book from the History Mysteries series.
Ever since her mother's death two years ago, twelve-year-old Ida Kate Deming has done all the housework for herself and her father on their Kansas homestead. The year is 1878, and life on the prairie is difficult, dangerous, and lonely. Ida Kate's father has decided the time has come for him to remarry. He puts an advertisement for a wife in an eastern newspaper, and a young widow, Caroline Fairchild, who has a one-year-old son, responds. Ida Kate is eager to have a mother and a brother, and her father is eager to once again have a wife. But all is not right with Caroline. Soon, Ida Kate begins to suspect that Caroline may not be Caroline at all, but someone else entirely different. But if "Caroline" is an impostor, what happened to the real Caroline? And are Ida Kate and her father in danger? This was a wonderful addition to the History Mysteries series that brought alive life on the prairie in the 1870s. Ida Kate was a spirited, adventurous heroine. I reccomend this book to all those who enjoyed the other History Mysteries books.

good enough
I enjoyed this book but not enough to keep. I got a little bored with the characters separation. I didn't have trouble finishing it, but it certainly did not keep me up late reading.

YANKEE WIFE
I just finished this book and wished it was another 300 pages long. The different plots and twist were great. I'm from the area it was set in so I really enjoyed the location! Brigham & Lydia need a sequel showing the changes continuing in their town, their family, their friends. I have just ordered Taming Charlotte to appease my appetite for further reading of this family, and because Linda Lael Miller is also a favorite author of mine.

Excellent!
"Yankee Wife" is the first book in the "Quade" series followed by "Taming Charlotte" and "Princess Annie", I think they are wonderful.
