Brilliant, beautiful, thought provoking and heart breaking
e-mail trouble: love and addiction @ the matrix, is a miraculous missive from the late S. Paige Baty. Part autobiography, part fiction, part theory, this book is unlike any other. I should note that I am not only a reader and reviewer of e-mail trouble, I am also a character: Sitting in a bar in Northern California, Paige and I began to write a comic book. Where previously we had played at being Maggie and Hopey of Love and Rockets, we re-invented ourselves as Dr. Rocket and Fly-bi-nightly in a world of our own. E-mail trouble is about trying to live, to love, to be in the world. The book is a love letter to Paige's many friends, but it is also an important theoretical work, one that draws on Camus as well as Foucault, on Kierkegaard and Norman O'Brown, Emerson and Pynchon, Louisa May Alcott and bell hooks, Kerouac and Plato. In addition to illuminating the work of past thinkers, she also sheds light on our tired and wired culture, the difficulty of inhabiting a female body, the importance of time and place, of communication and community. Paige was truly an original thinker, a gifted teacher, and one of the best writers I've ever read. Reading e-mail trouble made me laugh, cry and realize how much Paige is a part of me--and how wonderful that is. There is no one I know to whom I would not give this book, I can think of few gifts as great. Paige and I often spoke of addiction--we tried to define it, understand it, conquer it. It often seemed that we came to different conclusions, and we often pursued different paths, but we continued to talk, and to love. I miss my friend. This book is a posthumous present, a tangible reminder of Paige for those that knew her, but also a gift to those that never had the chance. I only wish that there were more picnics in the future.

EASY MICROSOFT OUTLOOK 2000
Excellent startup book for someone like me who is interested to learn key aspects in shortest possible time and does not have patience to study thick reference books and wants to apply it straightaway.

I own a small business dealing in commercial property (real estate) and this book has greatly benefited me in my business.

I am not computer literate but just in one weekend not only did I learn how to use Outlook 2000 but also managed to apply it straight away to my business needs in organising:-

Addresses of contacts both business and personal in a manner that are convenient to be crossreferenced in other aspects eg meetings appointments,events,e-mail

Diary and calendar with facilities for recurring events.

This is an excellent book for majority of people who donot have time to attend courses but quickly need to learn the basics and apply straightway to their business.

Essential Email Standards: RFCs and Protocols Made Practical

Essential Email Standards: RFCs and Protocols Made Practical
Although Essential Email Standards is intended for the Internet messaging technician, even non-techies like myself can benefit from its exhaustive and comprehensive coverage of all the major Internet protocols and RFCs. Loshin provides the latest information on all the Internet messaging standards, as well as a complete description of the standards making process.

The book is also extremely well organized and laid out, with plenty of diagrams, tables, sidebars, and notes. The only disappointing aspect of the book is the skimpy index at the end. Perhaps this is the publisher's way of encouraging readers to use the CD-ROM and Adobe PDF Reader supplied with the book.

Indeed, searching for key words and phrases with the Adobe Reader is a breeze--you just slide the CD-ROM into your computer, double click the installation file, and away you go. I found one of the RFCs I was looking for by simply clicking one of the hyperlinks embedded in the digital copy of the text.

This review concludes that Essential Email Standards succeeds in making highly technical email standards practical and easily accessible.

Everything kids online book
A good overview of the internet written in a straight-forward easy to read manner. The book starts by giving a brief description and history of the internet and includes a chapter of kid-friendly web-site addresses (and descriptions), the basics of determining whether a site is worthwhile or not, email and netiquette basics and some hints for parents. I would recommend this book for children AND adults who are interested in learning to use the Internet.

You'll wish you had more friends to send these to!
These postcards are uproariously funny. The author was very clever in providing quotes for the old photos from the 50's and 60's. I only wish that there were more in the book or a sequel coming soon!

The Globe and Mail Cryptic Crosswords
Published in Paperback by Times Books (1997)
Author: Fraser Simpson
Amazon base price: $10.00
Average review score:

A great book for anyone who likes fun, solvable cryptics
This book begins with a solving guide that really lays out the techniques for cryptic crossword solving. A brief discussion of a type of clue is immediately followed by a short puzzle featuring the type of clue just discussed as well as those already covered. It allows you to build on and practice solving skills.

The book features lots of good standard cryptics plus some fun variety puzzles at the end. Clues are generally difficult, but not as impossible as some cryptics I've tried to solve!

Anyone who enjoys cryptics will love this book. I have only one complaint. Where's the sequel?
