a lovely book
It seems strange to write a review for a book no longer published. If you find a copy somewhere buy it and read it. It is short, only about 270 pages. Although the center plot revolves around murder and rape (with a realistic portrayal of a rape victim) by the end of the book one can only take a deep breath and release it with a smile. This truly is a lovely story about second chances and having the strength to let your dreams come true.

THE MOST TOUCHING BOOK ON EARTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have read this book at least ten times! Each time I laugh and cry, only to find myself feeling very peaceful and happy at the end of the book. I love Lark and Nathan as if they were my two best friends. The tender passion with which they love each other moves me. I've read numerous books from Sandra Browne to LaVyrle Spencer, but none has touched my heart like the love of Nathan and Lark. If I could make everyone in the world read this book, I would. This is what love should be about!

Theresa Weir writes thr best in contemporary Americana
Over a decade ago, Lark Leopold was viciously attacked, forcing the traumatized young lady to return to her parents' home to recover. Ten years later, she feels it is time to return to the living. She accepts federal money to study farm animals in Iowa. ...... Lark meets Nathan Senatra, a person with a four-poster hangover, who refuses to suffer the indignity of dealing with a fed. However, Nathan's nastiness to her is nothing compared to what happens to Lark next as she finds a murdered body. Local law enforcement officer Adam Trent is assigned the case. He is elated with this investigation because he sees an opportunity to destroy his enemy Nathan, even if the person is innocent. He blames Nathan for driving his sister to a breakdown years ago. Even with a law out to hang him, Nathan tries with all his might to drive Lark away. However, she sees through his cynical outer shell into the lonely, melancholy man suffering through life. Lark must convince Nathan that they may have both been hurt in the past, but the future could be a time for joint healing. ...... AMERICAN DREAMER is an interesting romantic mystery due to the struggles of the lead protagonists to overcome the ghosts from their pasts. The efforts of the law to prove Nathan guilty adds a twist to the who-done-it story line. If this novel is a sample of her work, fans of romantic mystery will want to read more work from the obviously talented Theresa Weir because she spins a great yarn. ......Harriet Klausner

one of the best books about vietnam that i have read
this is one of the best books about the vietnam conflict that i have ever read! the characters are so beliveable that you could reach out and touch them... it is a book that i would recopmen to anyone, boys or girls.

Tear jerker
This book is a definate tear jerker, for both guys and girls. The main character, Geraldine, is put in many situations throughout the book. When her brother leaves for Vietnam and his best friend disagrees with his choice, she can't do anything but watch their friendship slowly fade away. Or does it? Many emotions are expressed in this touching story. I recomend this story for all ages.

A very touching book
This book, is one of the very few books that actually caused me to cry. The story is so moving, and Geraldine is a very convincing character. I rate this book really well. I read it years ago at my junior high library, and have been searching for it since. I reccomend this book to anyone.

One to Share with Friends
I'm usually a "nibbler" at books, reading a little now and a little later, whenever I have time, but with Cetacea I kept reading practically without pause. This was an interesting, informative book with exotic locales, well-developed characters, dramatic tension, and realistic dialogue. For the duration of the story, I felt as if I were in it -- seeing, feeling, hearing it all. Besides the gripping story line, Theresa Foley has called up an intriguing image of Key West that makes me want to visit her island at the southeast tip of the United States and perhaps do some dolphin-watching, myself. This is one of those enjoyable books that I'm sharing with my friends!

Cetacea
Cetacea was a real page-turner for me: I found myself holding my breath while cheering and fearing for the dolphins. The variety and depth of Ms. Foley's characters, the richness of her story line, and her knowledge of diving, dolphins, and dialog make this book a fine showcase of her exceptional writing skills. Cetacea truthfully captures the flavors and eccentricities of living and working in the Southernmost City-90 miles from Cuba, while skillfully and passionately blending equal amounts of suspense, ecological awareness, and mysticism. An impressive and hopeful message is conveyed to the reader in a very palatable form. I sincerely hope that Ms. Foley is working on a sequel.

Captivating
You don't have to know Key West to enjoy this novel by an exciting new novelist because the drama beginning on page one quickly encaptures you. One of these "I couldn't put it down" books. Ms. Foley takes an allegation of training dolphins (cetacean) to kill and writes an intriguing mystery involving national and international politics mixed with adventures of the sea, including sailing and diving, plus a love story to capture your heart. Ms. Foley's skill in developing the characters is exceptional and the dialogue allows you to easily enjoy the story as it unfolds throughout the book to a climatic unexpected ending. Clearly the potential for a movie or TV special.

Wonderful Romance in an unusual time period
Theresa Scott has created a rich Ice-Age society in her Ice-Age Hunters series. I was facinated as I read about Talon and Summer and their struggles against the savage environment and even more savage enemies.

If you liked Jane Auel, you will love Dark Renegade! Well-researched with vivid characterization and a complex romantic plot, it satisfied me on all levels as a reader.

GREAT!
I LOVED THIS BOOK. THE CHARACTERS WERE REALISITC. THEY SUFFERED TOGETHER, LEARNED TOGETHER, AND LOVED TOGETHER. THIS BOOK IS DEFINITELY WORTH READING! AGAIN AND AGAIN!

Very enjoyable
This was a great book. Talon is faced with the death of his mother and the betrayal of the tribe of the woman he was suppose to marry. Then Summer comes to the rescue as she teaches him to love her for herself instead of a way to get revenge.

"Facing the Wolf" by Theresa Sheppard Alexander
This is probably one of the best books on Primal Type Therapy available today. While Janov's books reached a large number of interested readers, promising early "cure" for neurosis, he never explained the actual process of the therapy. As a result, a number of people who had to go it alone, were very confused. Some of them did well, but others (both patients and therapists) misunderstood the therapy and landed up in difficulties. Ms Sheppard Alexander's book is unique in that she describes the process, step by step in a way that the unsophisticated reader can understand, and the professional find meaningful and helpful. I have personally passed this book on to several clinical psychologists and their response has been most enthusiastic. Lay people who I have shared it with have also found it moving and helpful to themselves. The writer describes her own childhood traumas in a way that anyone can understand and identify with. More importantly she talks about how, through the therapy, she was able to start working through these traumas, and transform her life from being a frightened, bewildered 20 year old, who dropped out of college, into the successful mature professional she is today. I see I can give this book only a five start rating. My personal rating is a ten!

A personal look at someone confronting their worst fears.
Its just a very good book. Its not just for those in pain. Thersa Alexander had a horrible childhood, and yet she came out alive and well, and has thrived as a thearpist and a person. I highly recommend this book.

A sensitive, inside view of deep feeling therapy.
Theresa Alexander documents her own Primal Therapy experience in a direct narrative form depicting her intital three week intensive. Chapters alternate between client point of view and therapist point of view. Insightful, poignant, and ultimately hopeful. I cried my way through the book, and sighed at the end.

Understanding ALL the options
Theresa Cameron's difficult odyssey began when her biological mother did not make decisions with her daughter's best interests in mind. As difficult as it might have been for the mother to admit that adoption was the best route for her to follow, she simply abandoned a beautiful child and left her at the mercy of an inadequate system. As strong as Ms Cameron obviously is, as an unwilling participant in the foster care system, her childhood was unnecessarily harsh and often cruel. Rarely can we says such a story has meaning in all our lives. I recommend this book for all who face the irreversible decision of creating a child.

Must reading for foster care workers
This book reveals the emotional impact of life in the foster care system for a black girl who was bounced from one foster home to another from birth until the age of 18. Except for the nationally publicized case of Baby Jessica, who was forcibly removed from her adoptive family at the age of two to be reunited with her birth mother and father, it is rare that the public gets a glimpse of the emotional damage done to the child. This book should be MUST reading for everyone involved in foster care.

Foster Care Revealed
This is a heartfelt, painfully true story of how one child can be forgotten in the "system". Even the cover itself is revealing...the only photograph the author has from her childhood and it does not even show her face.

By far my favorite book of alltime. I recommend it to all socialworkers, teachers, counselors, mothers, fathers, ministers, politicians, EVERYONE! It is well-written and easy to read, although it caused me to lose sleep at night knowing children are out there--alone, forgotten by their caseworkers, and lacking the basic needs such as touch, hugs, encouragement, or even a smile from those whose care they are in.

How Ms.Cameron did what she did all alone is beyond me. She is simply amazing.

After reading this book I wanted to reach out and hug Ms. Cameron.
She has made me a better mother.

Grandparents can talk about death and grief.
When the topic of death comes into the conversation with children, it is very helpful to have thought about what I want to say beforehand. This book gave me the opportunity to be more prepared to answer my grandchildrens' questions about death in a relaxed and confident manner.

an outstanding resource for parents and professionals alike
The author assists the reader in gaining a sensitive perspective as to how children experience grief at different developmental levels. Practical examples and down-to-earth suggestions are made to facilitate the grief process for children.

an excellent resource for families and professionals!
A very sound set of guidelines to refer to when a child has lost a loved one through death. Written at a level that is easy to understand and still covers the topic in adequate depth for any professional. Recommended reading!

Makes you think!
I thought this book was great, and my mom did also! I told her to read it after I was done, and after she did she said she was glad she did. She said it's good for discussions about God, His plan for our lives, and how we are supposed to live for Him. I liked Cass the best since she's the most like me, but the other characters are great too. What I liked best was that they're just regular kids who are trying to be Christians. They're not perfect and they certainly wouldn't say they're perfect, but they try. My mom likes the mom in the book and says she has good sense!

A Great Book For Any Teenage Girl...
I am 15 and an avid reader. I bought the first two Aloha Cove books at a homeschool fair because they looked like they had good plots. I was right they did! I read the books very quickly because I liked them so much! There are very good morals and lessons to be learned from them but they are far from "preachy!" I would reccomend these books for any teenage girl, probably ages 12-16. The characters are well devoloped and aren't dull but they do tend to act a little bit young for their age

Review of Nothing Atoll
Cassandra Devane's mother had been going out with a former highschool friend, Steve Spencer. Cass' dad had died when she was little and Steve's wife had walked out on him and his daughter Tabitha. Cass and Tabitha did exactly hit it off on good terms and when their parents decided to get married it just made their relationship worse. When Cass found out she had to move to Kwajalien, in the Marshall Islands, she flipped out because she didn't want to leave her friends and family. Steve was a news reporter for the radio company there on the island and had moved there a couple of years eariler. After getting to Kwajalein Tabitha immediately left with her friend Kira. Cass mopped around the house mad at God and her mother and Steve for making her move. Finally after a couple of weeks there, Cass accidentally runs into Tabitha's group of friends. Logan, also a newcomer to Kwajalein, immediately became friends with her. When Cass found out that there wasn't a youth group on the island, her favorite thing back home, she was real upset again. Well, her mom talked to the pastor and got one started. Finally after Tabitha and Cass were both tired of fighting and the power went out they finally spilled why they disliked each other so much. I will let you hang there. I thought this was a really good book because my sister and I fight a lot and it gave me a few tips on how to deal with that. This book can be really funny or it can be serious, but thoughout the book it is a real life situation and has tips about dealing with that kind of stuff.

This is such an emotional read.......
As I've recently finished reading this book for the third time; it's hard to put into words what makes it so special.

Molly, must return to her soon-to-be ex-husband. He's recently had a stroke; he's a tyrant, a type A, a perfectionist. Molly dreads caring for him, but there's no one else to do it. For her very pregnant daughter's sake, she returns.

Austin, is helpless from the stroke. He's also very much in love--with Molly. He's been love deprived his entire life. As a result, he doesn't know how to love.

Molly and Austin find love, in this beautiful story. Or maybe, they already had it, and didn't know it. Maybe, it was a one-sided love. The layer after layer of storyline, adds to the depth of the book. This is a really perfect read!

poignant
Touching, funny, engaging, sad and very human. It pulls readers right into the lives of its characters and never lets them go. I've read it twice and have cried my eyes out twice. The best thing about Weir is that her charcters aren't the typical gorgeous, beautiful-bodied cliches in other romance novels, her charcters are real and human and susceptible to life and its ups and downs, definitely something her readers can identify with.

Weir's writing unique and undiscovered by most
Though One Fine Day is probably my favorite book by this author. All of them are unique, uncliche plots with a lot of humor and chock full of the emotional ups and downs of our own lives. She can describe doing dishes and you find yourself comparing the way she put it with others who've read the same thing. Her publishers have not pushed her talents or something. Unbelievable how different her writing is and refreshing not to see the plot twists coming. Give her a try if you can find a used copy somewhere. Her newest, American Dreamer is GREAT

Modern-day Medici
In his day, J.P. Morgan was the best-known head of an American financial house. But Otto Kahn was a close second. Today, Morgan enjoys immortality in the popular imagination, while Kahn is all but forgotten. Thankfully Theresa Collins ... has produced a biography of Kahn that illuminates his importance as a man who successfully combined modern business sensibilities with art patronage. (Review by Ian Drake, Philanthropy Magazine, May/June 2003)

From Aufbau
"A considered and nuanced account of [the] early twentieth century American Medici. . . . Collins' accomplished biographical study profiles from the cinematic deftness with which she crosscuts facets of Kahn's life, an altogether appropriate technique in limning an existence so enamored of and beholden to modernity. Her use of the language of theater and film in interpretive contexts seamlessly brings his many worlds into a unified vision."--Aufbau

From Opera News
"Collins shows how [Kahn] gave away money nearly as quickly as he earned it, his contributions to music, literature, theater, dance, painting and design establishing New York City as an international cultural mecca. . . . Essential details are expertly negotiated, and thornier questions on the reality of latent anti-Semitism among the heirs of the Gilded Age are explored in depth. . . . As Collins aptly demonstrates, this 'self-made aristocrat' mastered the East without losing his soul, and in the process, he ennobled the arts he loved."--Opera News
