Interesting Woman
I knew Ms Wallach back in Chicago in th 1960's. She was the owner and chief mechanic for a BSA shop on the South Side. Before she would sell you a bike, you were required to take a defensive riding course from her. Ms. Wallach at one time had a line in the Guiness Book of World Records as the first and only person to cross the Sahara in a motorcycle. She did this a couple of times during WW II as a member of a Special Operations Division for the British Armed Services. I sat in on one of her defensive riding classes and it could well have saved my life. I remember her saying " if you hit something or are going to lose the bike let go" I was riding a Harley when I ran into one of Chicago's famous potholes. I let go of the bike and rather than getting tangled up with a mass of metal and rubber I sailed over the handlebars. Yes I broke my collarbone but I survived the accident, which if I had held onto the bike may not have been the case. The last time I saw Theresa was probably 1975.

Finally! A must have for students and teachers of Rhet/Comp
As with any encyclopedia, some entries are better than others. For example, the Bacon entry is very limited in content (it doesn't even mention his Doctrine of the Idols) when compared to other entries (such as the very precise summary of Derrida and his theories). Suggested primary and secondary text citations are thorough. The index compliation is excellent and a great help for finding terms that are repeated throughout the history of rhetoric and developed or altered by various rhetors. Thank you Theresa Enos!!! Grad students studying for comps, like me, will praise your name forever. This book is first on my list to purchase when I graduate and "find a real job."

A wonderful way to learn about heritage scrapbooking.
Have you ever noticed that there seem to be very few "how-to" books on creating heritage pages? I have. I like to see what and how other people are doing on their pages. It serves as not only a learning experience for me but also as a source of ideas and inspiration. Theresa Harley's Extending the Past into the Future is a heritage photo page idea book. The book has over 38 pages of layout page designs. It is very much a primer in creating your own heritage pages Each layout has explicit direction pertaining to the supplies used including instructions on cutting the mats displayed. Ninety-nine percent of the photo used are black & whites but Theresa doesn't limit herself to dark and somber colors. As an example, one page called "Our Christmas Girl" has the b/w photo matted in red plaid with a corresponding border decoratively cut from the same plaid. This page also has large, brightly colored holly leaves and berries with yellow bows in two corners. Nothing drab about this page! The majority of pages displayed are in 12"x 12"format. However, I found that virtually all of the page designs could be easily converted into an 8 1/2" x 11 layout Theresa stresses that "perfection" is not what creates beautiful pages. Of course, if perfection is your goal, she gives you the green light. As for the rest of us, she wants you to relax and enjoy what you are doing. In fact, she says that she purposely did not create "perfect pages" to show that less the perfect is beautiful. Actual size patterns are included for creating the flower and leaves used in the book. These are simple shapes and easily cut out using scissors or a craft knife. Another valuable resource included in this book is "State Archives & Public Records, Vital Statistics & Records, State Historical Societies". Those involved in genealogy will find these pages to be most helpful. Address and phone numbers of the agencies are listed by state. In the back of the book are coupons for scrapbook items offering over $40.00 worth of discounts and free items associated with purchases.

A saint book unlike any other!
Anyone who wants to know and love the saints more, but does not want to read fifty-seven different books will find this book a treasure beyond belief! We own many books about saints, but we keep coming back to this one. There are stories about those familiar favorites such as St. Paul and St. Francis of Assisi. Also, there are lesser-known saints, such as St. Peregrine and St. Dymphna. These are often hard to find information about, especially on a child's level.

The book is full of details and very well written. The stories are engaging and make you feel like you are there. Luckily each saint is covered in only five to ten pages, because the children would not want to stop until the story is finished. This is truly our favorite saint book. We highly recommend it!

What a great book for boaters!
I wish I would have known about this book sooner. We are out almost every weekend in the summer and this book always seems to have something in it that the kids like. So far, their favorites have been making the hydrophone, identifying seaweed and some of the science experiments. There's even some clever games in the book. There is some activity or another for pretty much all ages and some of them I love doing too. If you like doing fun stuff with your kids while you're boating, this is a great place to start.

Get this book, some drawing materials, and some good reading books and your kids will have a great time and be prepared for some bad weather spells.
