Well organised and well illustrated, easy to read
The authour has done a very good job of conveying the essentials of thoracic imaging in a easy to read and well illustrated single volume book. While coverage of some topics is superficial, the well organised differential lists and nice images make this book a pleasure to read. Residents begining in thoracic imaging and those preparing for boards will find this book invaluable. It does not replace a full text book but conveys more information than an imaging atlas.

PoundMaker massacres settlers at Frog Lake Saskatchewan
Teresa Gowanlock, a cousin of this writer, records in a diary-like format, her escape from death at the hands of Chief Poundmaker and his fellow Cree. Dragged helpless through endless miles of western overburden, she and her companions are portrayed as the hapless victims of the Natives. It is a book full of emotional-blood letting and a must read for all "family" members and those who would know the full extent of what happened to cause this monumental event in Canadian History. Teresa is not vindictive in her words but neither is she forgiving. She and her family suffered much but were the pawns of a government which held little love for any "force" which stood in its way. Upon her rescue she informed the authorities of her trial and soon set to telling her tale. Like her cousin Laura Secord, she became a part of the historical Canadian fabric and a noble example of all that was the strength of our early ancestors. Another topical book is, "Blood Red, The Sun" which gives a more general view of the massacre and the events surrounding it.

Helpful Gem
This is a gem of a book . It will be most helpful to those people who want to be an active participant in the healthcare decisions being made for them or for someone who they are close to and who needs an advocate. It does this by explaining, in layman's terms, how medical professionals arrive at conclusions about diagnoses and treatment. The book can be unsettling because it shows how much uncertainty is associated with medicine. But it will help anyone begin to understand the medical treatment they or a loved one might be undergoing. It does this not by being a medical textbook about diseases, though it contains many medical examples; instead it is a guide that helps the reader to ask questions and search for further information about what doctors say.

I was recently diagnosed with a medical problem. The book has helped me to think more actively about my treatment and to help me ask my doctor questions that I might not have thought about. Doctors are of ten not the all-knowing professionals you want them to be. In fact they should read this book as well.

The best way I can describe the contents of the book is to quote from the Preface, "This book sets the stage for understanding medical information in Chapters 1 and 2 .... Chapter 3 provides an overview of the types of medical research [and] the role of statistics in evaluating studies .... Chapters 4, 5, and 6 comprise a central core of knowledge about the high - as well as lower-tech processes by which we make diagnoses of individual patients, assess the health of populations, make decisions about treatments under conditions of uncertainty, and attempt to provide the best prognostic judgments possible given the great complexity and diversity among patients. The final sections of the book, Chapters 7 and 8, provide conceptual as well as practical guidelines for assessing the quality of medical information available on the Internet, explain the ways in which Internet resources might best be used to capture good information, and confront the current realities of what can and cannot be expected from "artificial intelligence."

Don't be put off by the statistical tables and terminology. They are explained remarkably well. You will learn how necessary statistics are to medicine without having to be a math whiz. I was amazed how the book made it easy to understand complex ideas in science, medicine and statistics. Reading this book is also a small intellectual adventure about how the science of medicine has evolved. The chapter on the Internet helps to grapple with the mass of information that can swamp you.

Each chapter is followed by a summary with suggested references. What I particularly liked was the short blurbs accompanying the references, making it easier to decide what might be worth further investigation.

Forget about Ferber
After years of trying to get my son to sleep through the night and not liking Dr. Ferbers theories at all, I read this book and had my 5 year old sleeping through the night, in his own bed, in 2 weeks. This books breaks down the sleeping problems into several different chapters, With different methods for different children! This book gives helpful advise for bedtime and also gives advise on how your daytime attitudes are effecting sleeping habits. I recommend this book to anyone with an older child who doesn't sleep.

WOMAN MARINE: OUTSTANDING
Mrs. Yianalos' memoir was spectacular. Having been a woman Marine myself, I could relate to every timeless aspect she detailed and I greatly enjoyed the intricies of her life as a reservist in WWII. There are no better words to describe this book than full of esprit de corps, timeless memories and sheer perfection. It radiates with the essence of Marine sisterhood. I recommend this book to every woman Marine and any woman looking for excellence in literature.

Pre-Historic Love Story
I read this book ages ago & really enjoyed it. I can't remember the heroine's name (sorry), but the hero is Mamut. The story is set in pre-historic times somewhere in America. The Heroine is lost in the wilderness with her Nephew & 2 Niece's. She is trying to make it back to her own tribe/clan the Bison People. The Hero's village/tribe/clan, the Mamuth People, are short on women after an illness killed most of them. So when Mamut see's her (the Heroine) in the distance, he decides to capture her.

The hero is tortured by a secret from his past & lives with the fear it might one day be revealed. The heroine settles into Mamuts clan & thing's seem to be going well. Mamut feels he doesn't deserve the Heroine due to his murky past deed, so he hides his feelings from her. She is OK with this until a discontent clansman within the clan causes trouble.

The heroine leave's the Mamuth People with her Nephew & Nieces in tow, & makes it back to her own people with Mamut in pursuit. He is forced to leave her with her people as he's outnumbered by her very angry relatives.

All the tribes are gathering to exchange goods & buy supplies. The Mamuth People, who haven't hunted the Mamuth (big hairy elephant) for years, decide they need Ivory tusks so they can buy Brides (remember they lost most of their women). This causes Mamuts secret to come out into the open, & he has to face his past to win the Heroine.

The story is very descriptive. You get a very good feel for the time & the people. The people are written as real, not grunting cavemen & the moral's of that time are very clear, not confused with modern morals. A definite keeper. Happy reading :0)

The Care and Feeding of Your Brain: How Diet and Environment Affect What You Think and Feel

Much info, bad style
This book was not exactly what i expected, but it does have lots of usefull infomation. The writting style however, leaves much to be desired, as im sure mine does here :) Everything in the book is called either a booster or a zapper or both that is it improves brain function or reduces it. While this is great im sure if you are using this as a laymans reference book to the brain, it makes it a very repetitive and chunky read , if you read in a linear fashion. But it did increase my knowledge about the brain greatly. this book is worth reading but i would recommend first buying Change your Brain change your life, as a more interesting read. I also was shocked by some of the things concerning illegal recreational drugs that he pass off as facts. Such as MARIJUANA is frequently LACED with PCP so even though it does benefit the brain in some instances say away from it. Come on, thats war on drug propanganda that rarely if ever happens but anyways on whole its an interesting and informative book that left me dissapointed in several areas but gave me much knowledge

An important resource relating diet & the brain's health
I read many of Dr. Giuffre's reviews written for books at www.amazon.com & felt that he has a high social conscience. He likes to share his opinion & knowledge w/ people. Now I just read this book & it makes me even more admire of this author. This book is a very good summary about food, supplements, life style in relation to keeping the brain in good health and is written in a reader friendly format. The information was based on real scientific research. It is a good reference for both professionals & lay people. Not only given to you a summary of what is good/bad to eat, this book also explains to you the reasons behind those dietary suggestions with structure & physiology of the brain written in a nontechnical fashion (I specially like the way he talked about the ltp). The writing style is simple & well organized but not wordy, so it won't bore you. The author would not hesitate to stress important details repeatedly under different subjects. This book represents Dr. Giuffre well-intentioned nature of being a people's doctor, who is not working only for the big cheque but for the good of the people. It also reflects his drive for continuous academia. He certainly deserves a clap for his dedication to health science.

Great Info
This is a great book, with excellent information that everyone should know. Using this book as a guideline a person could keep his/her brain healthy, active, and alert for a long and prosperous lifetime.

Beautifully written and highly recommended read!
A wonderful and intriguing story. Theresa's characters possess such depth and soul that I found it hard to put the book down. Innovative and captivating, COOL SHADE is truly a literary treasure. I highly recommend this book!

The best book I have read all year!
This book was amazing. Just when I thought 1999 was going to be a big dud for me. I ordered Cool Shade and Bad Karma at the same time and read Bad Karma first, which was also a winner! But Cool Shade left me speechless! I loved this book. Original, exciting, sad, heartwarming. I can't say enough about this book. The characters and story were fabulous! And it even had some great sizziling sex scenes to boot! Bravo Ms. Weir.

The best book I've read all year!
_Cool Shade_ is a fast, original, sexy read. Theresa Weir writes like no one else in romance. I've read all her books, and this is the best one except for maybe _One Fine Day_. But few things on earth are as good as _One Fine Day_.

What a unique baby book!
I got this book because I didn't like the "traditional" baby books. I like the layout and design but wish there was more room to write the details of the monthly milestones. Also, it would be nice if other sections like eating and clothes were divided by age so that you don't fill up the page with just one moment.

Oh Baby! It's great!
Oh Baby! is THE BEST baby book. I have searched everywhere for the perfect baby book. I had one that I got at my baby shower that has one line for everything. It didn't have any place for notes or month by month records. I found this book at Amazon and was sceptical when I ordered it. When I received it I wanted to jump up and down and scream for joy! It is that wonderful.
This book has a page for family history, (just lines) for notes about meals, first bath and bathtime rituals, first teeth. It has a page for mom and dad to write a letter to baby, there is even a couple of pages that have a place for each month notes up to 12 months. If you want to record things about the hospital or your shower, there are pages for that. There are pockets for keepsakes and almost every other page has a place for a picture. This baby book has everything imaginable in it, even stuff you wouldn't hink about puttin in it!

Wonderfully Sweet
This is a lovely book for keepsakes and baby memories. It starts out before baby is born, takes you through the birth and first few days and into baby's milestones and first haircut etc.

It has pockets for memorabilia and places for photos and lots of empty pages to write your thoughts and feelings. It even gives special places for dad to share!

Plus the book itself is adorable with colorful pages and an overall adorable look to it. What fun!
