Facinating Facts!
This was a great book! I really liked it because it had many animal and plant facts. You should buy this book!

Just right for an eight-year old inquisitive boy
This book was exactly right for an eight year old boy who is VERY interested in rainforests. In fact, there is even a large picture of a bluc and yellow macaw on one page, and that is (at least at the time he got the gift)his FAVORITE rain forest animal.

Hooray for Eyewitness Books!
Get drawn into the jungle world and take a tour you'll never forget! Eyewitness books always give readers the most complete information in the most concise form...which holds the attention span of younger readers, and completely engrosses the adult reader as well.

Hide and Seek: A Wartime Childhood

Hide and Seek: a wartime childhood
A compelling account of a child's experience in wartime Poland during World War II told convincingly from a child's pont of view. There is tension and adventure in her story of assuming multiple identities with a Catholic family who protects her as she and her own family hide from Nazis during a bewildering time of anti-semitism. I felt her confusion, her anxiety and her unfailing sense of humor and adventure on every page.

Converting Pain into Compassion
I most admire individuals who have gone through great struggles in their lives and convert their pain into compassion and selfless service to humanity. As a specialist in childhood regression I have learned that it is not what happened to us that determines our character -- it is what we do with those experiences. Having close relatives whose experiences in the war hauntingly parallel those of Dr. Cahn-Tober's, I have experienced firsthand how such a harrowing childhood can effect one's ability to cope as an adult. Teresa has made different choices. She deeply understands children and their emotional wounds and has devoted much of her professional life to the path of healing. I felt grateful and validated by her understanding the emotional baggage that comes with being the "child of survivors." This book was not only personally meaningful to me, it was also extremely well-written and an engrossing read. The author has a gift for storytelling and I hope that she will continue to write.

hide and seek...a great literary find!
This book begins with one of the best introductions I've seen in a long time. Here, in this short but beautifully written intro, Tober sets the tone for the retelling of her life story which resonates strength, humor, hope and love, all while giving the reader a personal inside view of living through the Holocaust. Educational without being dry or dark, hide and seek gives shining examples of love and humanity which cross over ethnic and religoius bounaries during a time of war and hate. During the book the reader is never burdened with an author's feelings of victimization, but instead inspired by the loving memories of a talented writer. Highly recommended for adults of every age, race or religion.

Fascinating Read
This was definitely a page-turner! I live in this area. So, it was interesting to imagine that this went on right here! I had never heard about it, and I have lived here for the last 25 years. Makes me want to examine all the houses and areas they went to.

The book is written with a newspaper sensationalism kind of feel, but that shouldn't bother you too much.

Holy Rollers Rocks
The authors give us a true account, set in "the good old days", showing us that murderous cults didn't start with the Manson family, and religious fanatacism isn't an import nurtured only in foreign lands. Immediate and enthralling as any real crime story currently on the shelves or TV, this page-turning ride has just the right amount of wry, observational wit to balance the horrors. I loved it.

An incredible, painstaking reconstruction
Collaboratively researched and written by T. McCracken and Robert B. Blodgett, Holy Rollers: Murder And Madness In Oregon's Love Cult is the "truth is stranger than fiction" story of the "Holy Roller" religious cult that made brutal newspaper headlines in 1903. It all began when Salvation Army dropout Edmund Creffield arrived in Corvallis, Oregon and founded a new "church". The city fathers were less than impressed -- but not so their wives and daughters! A century later, descendants of the people involved in the macabre events of Creffield's Holy Roller Cult still refuse to discuss what happened. Holy Rollers is an incredible, painstaking reconstruction and revealing expose that create a gripping book that offers especial insight into the dark side of mass psychology, religious hysteria, and unbridled charismatic religious authority.

Western Romance At Its Best
Kenny (Kee) Kincaid is one of those fellas that just can't help being a hero. He's been one since he was orphaned with another little boy when their parents were killed on a trip West. They are the two little boys who rescued Logan Kincaid in this author's story, ONCE AN OUTLAW.

Kee just cannot refuse to help anyone in trouble - after all weren't all the Kincaid men raised like this? So, when he hears a woman's frantic screams - he rides to the rescue.

Right into the path of adventure with Isabel, a mysterious beauty who is not the only one seeking her grandfather's old gold mine. Kee and Isabel will come near death as they search for the gold using her 'special' map. They also scorch the pages with some sensual tension along the way and like the other Kincaids, once Kee is bitten by love he won't give up until he claims her.

It's a delight to reunite with the Kincaid family once again in this setting that takes place ten years after ONCE AN OUTLAW. Kee is another Kincaid hero to love from author Theresa Michaels, one of the best in Western Historicals.

THERESA MICHAELS NEVER DISAPPOINTS - WONDERFUL!
From the first page of Theresa Michael's thrilling new romance Kee Kincaid - who says he never set out to be a hero - grabs the reader and doesn't let go until the last gripping page. Wow! He's a hero all right, gorgeous, brave, and one of Theresa Michael's best in her celebrated sagas of the Kincaid family. Kee meets his match in fiery Isabel del Cuervo when he tries to figure out why she's involved in the mystery of the legendary Lost Dutchman Gold Mine. It makes for one of the most erotic love scenes I've ever read. Curl up for a few hours and enjoy. Better yet - get out the whole Kincaid series and read them through again. They're a delight!

ONCE A HERO by Theresa Michaels
This book is definitely a knockout! It's the fourth book about the infamous Kincaid brothers. And Kee Kincaid is a special kind of hero. He's the adopted son of Logan and Jesse Kincaid(ONCE AN OUTLAW '95) and they have always called him a hero. He's a man who doesn't walk away from a fight or danger in any way. He's brave, loyal and true to the bone. Just the kind of man who would come to a woman's rescue and protect her from harm. And this hero has a horse named Outlaw who is exceptional too, as you will find out. He is also rewarded in the end. What a great story this is. It's an adventure in survival, and a man and a woman who trust in one another as they form a bond of love that is pure gold.

Isabel de Cuervo needed Kee's help in the worse way as she was running from killers who were after a map of a gold mine her grandfather told her the whereabouts of. This gold mine involves the legend of the Lost Dutchman Mine. It is a place of mystery and death. As Kee helps Isabel search for the mine they are beset by all sorts of troubles with a capital T. One of which is trying to fight the explosive pull of passion they have for one another since Isabel has her mission in life and Kee has many trails and things to explore before he settles down. Between the sexual tension and living under the feeling they may be killed at any moment, plus the dangerous trails they travel you feel as strung out as they are. You hardly come up for air it's that exciting! I couldn't put the book down for a minute for fear I would miss something. The love story woven throughout the book is beautiful and endearing. Ms. Michaels does a fine job of building her characeters' relationship into one you won't soon forget. In fact, Theresa Michaels creates heroes that make a bee line right into your heart and soul.

Splendid effort.
Not as kitchy as their first offering, but still right on target. Both Bob Mayo and Allen Meece offer some of their best work here. Certainly worth a read.

Beyond Paradise - an excellent book
This book described the effects of WWII in the Phillipines. It is the personal story of a young girl growing up in internment camps. It captivated the details of a life of fear, danger, an mistreatment. A good read!

...Christian Youth Review
The Great Bible Adventure conveys biblical stories to young minds with unusual, yet comical humour. Recommended for children but also amusing for older teens too. Outstanding cartoon art is bound to make an impact, bringing to memory bible stories long after reading this book. Gupta and Kazybrid have partnered to produce a fine tool, which will hopefully make kids hungry for more of God.

Retold in easy to understand language for young readers
Jill Gupta's The Great Bible Adventure is a collection of biblical stories about well-known bible people and events drawn from the Old and New Testaments, ranging from before Moses to the crucifixion of Christ. Each story is condensed and retold in plain, easy to understand language for young readers and peppered with colorful, mildly humorous illustrations by Mychailo Kazybrid. Some of the stories and pictures must necessarily refer to some dark events indeed (such as "Murder Most Foul", a simplified retelling of the events in Esther 1-3 which led to Haman's order of a massacre of Jews in the Persian Empire). Most stories have a Biblical Time Line which show when they occurred, and all have footnotes referring to the biblical passages from which they are drawn, the better to help astute young readers to graduate from this easy-to-intermediate level book to the Bible itself.

The ability to write well goes a long way
This book is very well written; it's almost poetic with the lyrical descriptions and vivid images that Theresa Maggio creates with her words. The author also eloquently captures for her readers the conflicting emotions she experienced as a modern American woman viewing unfamiliar cultural practices and dealing with an ancient Sicilian way of life. This against the backdrop of loving the people (and one man in particular) and exploring her heritage as a grandchild of Sicilians. She writes with a sadness and shares a sense of loss with the people as old traditions fade away; the ancient way of fishing for instance - MATTANZA - the bluefin tuna fishing ritual that is dying out as modern fishing methods intrude.

In the best traditions of good travelogues the book paints a sensitive and romantic portrait of traditional cultures; we are invited to feel a poignancy about the inevitable losses that changes through modernization brings. The author in describing her man says "he was a good man in a dying trade, a fisherman to the core of his soul. His boat, his nets, and the sea were his life."

Writing style and attention to culture - the hallmarks of a good travelogue being present - what then is the problem with the book? The truth is that the cultural practice itself is not one that we develop much sympathy for. MATTANZA, although certainly not a glorification of death, and steeped as it is in religious symbolism, nevertheless is shown up as a bloody ritual, and more unfortunately for the book, a rather senseless one.

Maggio describes the scene around the trap. "The net was drawn taught, and they skittered in front of us, half out of the water...The fish were as big as men...I remember the din, the thunder of falling water, and their frantic thrashing. They darted to the corners of the net, but there was no way out...when the thrashing calmed they were battered, bleeding and floating on their sides, but they were still alive...this killing went on for an hour, the blue square turned red. When the last fish was taken the currents cleared the square of the blood and milky water that clouded it." Not exactly a practice that has much to recommend it. Even if you wished to take a principled stand and say 'I can't pass judgement on other peoples cultural practices,' the book sets itself up for just this sort of criticism where, after the Mattanza, Maggio says "the tourists...were towed back to port." Now we see the reality. This ancient traditional cultural practice, steeped in religious symbolism, is not so precious afterall. It has allowed itself to be bastardized into a blood-sport tourist attraction in order to make a few dollars. This admission, and the failure of Maggio to contrast the traditional practices with even more exploitative, modern commercial fishing activities, leaves the spotlight firmly on MATTANZA; and unfortunately for the book wheras the writing style shines, the cultural practice it describes does not.

life, blood, and sweat...
this was a great read. this woman can really write well.
I loved her descriptions of these fisherman. Made me wish
I wasn't married. I'd go over there and get me one!
great descriptions!

transcended
Maggio's words sent me to a time and place that my thoughts could not imagine without a guide to show the way. The startling contrast between the ritual of the tuna slaughter and life in my cozy home nestled by a roaring fire are apparent from the opening pages. A true adventure that reads like a fictitious novel of love for the life and life for the love of a bloody massacre few have witnessed. Sushi? Is it a non-fiction? Is it an advertisement for the gourmet market? Is it a traditon that will endure? Without Maggio's persistant journeys to the site of the tonnora and the substance of a writer without limits, this work would not have traveled to my hands and through my mind.
Inspirational story-telling by an artist that paints through words and colors with the culture and rich tradition of a brutal ritual.
Thank You Ms. Maggio for giving my dreams substance and a sicilian fantasy.

Written for Doctors
This is a well formatted, highly technical book. That is what surprised me. This book is not written for the layman. DO NOT purchase this book unless you are well-versed in chemistry and can follow a highly technical medical book. I was impressed by "Parkinson's Disease: Questions and Answers" but it took some intense reading for me to be able to pull good information out of it. This is a must-buy for your primary care physician if they aren't well versed in Parkinson's disease.

Technical, but worthwhile
This book is written with a great deal of research and medical substance. If you are just learning about Parkinson's, this is not the book to begin with. If you have some knowledge and want specifics, this is a good book. It is a nice book to pick up and read parts at a time. Information is candid and thorough.

I found this book to be very informative and easy to read.
I loved the format of the book! In reading any publication of its type, one typically has specific questions on a particular subject or seeks further explanation on a variety of issues to maintain as a reference. It was very easy to direct my attention to the very topics I was most interested in, and to return to them in times of need. The format of the book (question and answer), the length of the chapters, and flow of information made it a very quick read despite the complexity of the material. It will be one that I will keep on my shelf for a long time.
