Makes you start hiking tomorrow
Although the pictures are excellent and show all the different areas the trail crosses, what I really enjoyed most about this book is the story. It brilliantly mixes a description of the trail, a little history about some places it crosses, the contrast between multiple-use and protected areas, and an inside view of the thru-hiking adventure. This is not a trail guide and it is not supposed to be; it is a story that makes you feel you are actually hiking the trail, specially if you are familiar with the geography, weather and environmental problems of the area.

I got this book from the library, and after reading it, decided to buy it. This is a book you should own if you like to hike. I had never considered the idea of long distance hiking, but I'm starting to think different after reading this book.

Although the included map contains most of the places the book refers to, I would have made it a little bit more detailed representing the different mountain ranges and ecosystems the trail crosses.

Spectacular
If you love the outdoors, this book will knock your socks off. Bart Smith's photography is unbelievable - truly stunning!! Having thru hiked the Appalachian Trail, I think that Karen Berger has accurately captured the ups and downs of a thru hike. The adventure and the pain. The delight and the struggle. The two combined have created the consumate work on the PCT. What a pleasure to read.

Bart Smith's Photography is exceptional!
and it perfectly compliments Berger's and Smith's description of the determination needed to thru-hike the Pacific Crest Trail. I frequently find myself pulling the book from the shelf as the wonderful photography by Bart Smith provides the perfect escape from the "big city" life in Northern Virginia.

I anxiously await Bart's upcoming book, "The Appalachian Trail: Calling Me Back to the Hills" to see what he can do with the the natural beauty in the East!

The best book on the Gospel of Christ I've ever read.
This book shows a true concern for accuracy of doctrine and a desire that as many people as possible share in the glorious good news of the grace of God which is found only in Christ Jesus. The author writes as a man who has struggled with the issues personally and resolved them in a reverent, accurate, a understandable way. Mr. Wilson is a man with both a first rate education and real-life experience in dealing with the issue of personal salvation. The book is not wordy or inaccessible. It it lucid and organized and betrays a great amount of thought, inquiry, and scholarship. I would not hesitate to recommend this book to anyone. The work is equally suitable for the inquiring unbeliever, the confused or hungry believer, and interested scholars of all persuasions.

GRACE! GRACE! GOD'S AMAZING FREE GRACE!!!
One of the best books ever written on faith, the gospel, and assurance! This book is a masterpiece on explaining the wonderful doctrine of eternal security! I highly recommend this book to believer and unbeliever alike!

True Grace!
Confident in Christ is a wonderfule exposition of the Gospel, faith, assurance, and a consideration of some tough texts of the New Testament. The first chapter is truly a gem and should be required reading for every Bible and seminary student, and Christian. It slices through the confusion surrounding the Gospel today and clearly proclaims God's free gift of eternal life by belief in Christ. His section on assurance is equally great and the analysis not only helps in understanding what true faith is but should help every one become more confident in Christ. There are some wonderful challenges to Christian living toward the end of the book along with a helpful study guide for small group Bible studies or Sunday School classes. In summary Confident in Christ is a wonderful testimony to God's grace showing that man can bring nothing to God to gain eternal life other than belief in Christ. It honors the principle of Romans 11:6. I highly recommend the book.

Cooking Basics for the Kitchen-Challenged
My friend Peter was going through a divorce. The first thing he bought for his new apartment was this cookbook, and seven years later, he still swears by it and his kids are well-fed. On the road to culinary perfection, this is the first quarter-mile.

This handy guide to cooking for children includes everything from "How to Pack a Lunch" (page 66) to "How to Read a Recipe" (page 37) and even "Throwing a Birthday Party for Your Child" (page 285). This book is guaranteed to demystify the kitchen!

Most of the recipes in this book are extremely kid-friendly. For example: Six Sandwiches the Kids Will Eat (page 58), Four All-American Lunches (Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Quick Macaroni and Cheese, and Chef's Salad), and Dad's Official Meat Loaf.

The recipes are not strictly limited to kid-friendly fare. The author includes instructions on how to prepare for a cocktail party, with an accompanying "Cheese Primer." The Cocktail Party menu includes recipes for: Miniature Quiches (no, not the frozen kind that come out of a box!), Pate, and even Salmon Caviar!

The book is sectioned into meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Each section includes handy tips and tricks. For example, on page 80 there is a "Beef Basics" diagram which shows you where the different cuts of beef come from. These special sections include blue-tinted "Special Occasion" supplements. An example of this is on page 48, "Breakfast in Bed." This meal consists of Slow Scrambled Eggs with Smoked Salmon, Sour Cream, and Caviar.

This is an outstanding all-around cookbook. Whether you're just getting started in your own apartment, or settling down with a loved one who longs to share the kitchen with you, this is a great start.

not just for Dad's, now there's a book for anyone looking...
When people talk about their food memories at home, or their family recipes, it is almost always from the mother or female part of the family. It is true, however, that many of the greatest worldwide chefs are men. It still amazed me however, that after all this time a that a cookbook would come out in hopes of gaining 'male' ground. The title alone does that in Bob Sloan's cookbook Dad's Own Cook Book - Everything your mother never taught you.

There is nothing in the recipes, in my opinion, however, that stands out as majorily different from thousands of other books on the market today. There are recipes like: Perfect Roast Chicken; London Broil; Dirty Rice; Breaded Pork Chops; Pan-Fried Flounder; Kasha; Stuffed Potatoes with Bacon and Cheese; Corn Pudding; Chicken Salad; Ceasar Salad; and Chocolate Pudding to name just a few. The book is crammed with a large selection of recipes with a good variety of information of foods.

...it is worth any Dad or Mom (or any single person) to get a book that they can call and easy reference on their shelf. Most of the recipes are easy to prepare and require little if any specialty ingredients.

Overall Review 3 pots out of 5

best cookbook in existence for beginners in the kitchen
This cookbook is EXTREMELY informative, user-friendly, and definitely not just for men! (I'm a woman). Anyone wanting to know how to get started in the kitchen should read this. It has taught me everything from how long to defrost meat to which wines go with which dishes to recipes for either yourself or for entertaining. All the recipes are terrific and easy to follow. This book is a godsend and a geat reference tool for anyone interested in cooking. The writing style is hip and fresh and the book is filled with great illustrations

A gaming masterpiece. Buy it!
Many have commented that DELTA GREEN is where X-Files meets the Cthulhu Mythos. They are correct, but it goes beyond that. Delta Green presents a satisfying and believable context for mythos roleplaying in the modern era. This supplement for CALL OF CTHULHU, a game which has a history of great supplements, raises the standard by which future works will be measured. This is quite possibly the best role-playing supplement ever. I have been into RPGs for nearly 20 years now, and I have seen most of what is out there. Believe me, it does not get better than this.

Delta "Green with envy!:
If Lovecraft was alive today this sourcebook would make him green with envy! This takes the Call of Cthulhu game to the contemporary level. There's more than enough plots and characters to juice up a modern (postmodern?) Call of Cthulhu game. I especially like how the creators have made so many versatile options. You can make this supplement as intricate or as simple as you want. I definitely recommend this as a sourcebook to all Call of Cthulhu role playing fans.

Best Call of Cthulhu supplement ever
To call DELTA GREEN a supplement for Call of Cthulhu is to do it a great injustice. Even if you don't play the game, but are a Lovecraft aficionado, you owe it to yourself to pick this up and see what Tynes and company have done. This is not your father's Cthulhu Mythos. This is something much, much nastier.

Gone are the days where monsters lurked in dark places, and could be banished with the right spells. The stars are right - right here, right now, and the Mythos has kept pace with modernity, corrupting openly, though humanity is still too blind to see. Delta Green has been fighting them ever since Innsmouth and 1927, a hidden conspiracy within the government dedicated to seeking out and destroying that which threatens humanity.

Only trouble is, even the government has disavowed Delta Green, in favour of collusion with the enemy. But the menace is so great that Delta Green continues, an illegal conspiracy hidden in the bowels of that which wants too destroy it. Delta Green isn't Mulder or Scully, seeking the truth that nobody else knows. Delta Green *knows* the truth, and is making sure nobody else suffers from knowing that either.

DELTA GREEN takes everything we know about modern day conspiracy theory - Roswell, Area 51, Majestic-12, UFOs, and merges it seamlessly with the battle against the forces of the Cthulhu Mythos. The secret history it reveals is frighteningly plausible, and like Lovecraft's fiction, nags at you and makes you doubt its fictional qualities.

As a way of bringing a moribund CoC campaign from the gothic horror of the 1920s to the survivalist horror of the 1990s, it is second to none. Think you could have dealt with those creepy crawlies if you only had an AK-47 instead of a revolver? Think again. The psychological cost of fighting terrors from beyond is not forgotten either, with Delta Green agents wandering shell-shocked from encounter to encounter.

And as I said, as a means of stimulating your imagination to bring Lovecraft up to date, it is also superb. Anyone who thinks Lovecraft's themes are hackneyed and old only needs to read this to see how horrifyingly relevant they still are.

Buy this book, and its companion DELTA GREEN: COUNTDOWN, which describes the UK and Russian counterparts to Delta Green. The truth is here. And it's hungry.

Emotionally Charged Learning
I truly loved this book. If you have studied emotional inteligence or enjoyed Senge's work on Learning then this is the next generation. Rift with detail on how to make your organization and people driven to learn faster and with more excitement and desire. I loved it.

Learning Organization books
Given that we are trying to increase Emotional Intelligence within our organization or further our competence as a learning organization, there is a fuel that is necessary to get there. I have read "Emotional Intelligence" and "The Fifth Discipline" and now Emotionally Charged Learning". I consider this book to be one of the best examples of how to achieve the ideals of the former.

Emotionally Charged Read...
Excellent book for those that are looking for something that brings into question the role emotions play in making learning really stick. I found it fascinating.

Excellent Resource for Self-Starters
Unfortunately, I'd already spent close to $200 on other books before I came across this one. I needed a step-by-step, well-written, easy to follow workbook type of text which would approximate a training course, and this book is it! All other books I tried were too dry and technical, boring me to death while simultaneously confusing me. Only wish I could find more titles in this series. Warning - "homework" assignments assume you have VB installed. If you've got VB and a little programming knowledge, BUY THIS BOOK AND GET BUSY WITH VB 5! =D

Fantastic book to start with!!!
I took a VB class this year and this was the book that my teacher had recommended. During the class, we had to use a crappy book called "VB made easy". I read the whole book and still didnt know didly about VB. Then I bought this book!!! If you want a book that teaches you hard concepts of PROGRAMMING, and doesnt hold your hand through step by step projects that dont teach you how to think on your own...buy this book!!! I actually thought it deserved a 4.5 since a couple chapters could have been improved. But what book can teach you everything perfectly? So I curved it up comparing it to all the others i seen. Cause it sure came close. Now I do mostly programming at work with what i learned from this book. My next one will be "Profession VB 5.0 business objects" Check out the reviews on that one!!!

Just staring out? Read this book!
If you are a new VB programmer, or even new to programming and want to start VB. This is the book for you. It is vey understandable and easy to follow, and is full of examples. The only reason why I gave it a 9, because the CD included inside didn't have the correct picture formats to view the figures in HTML. So I do think it could have been edited one more time, for the CD reason, and for a few mistakes they made, but for being one of the forst on the market, it was great. And I still consider it the best, even though more books like it are out there.

A Great Read
As always,Dr.Bob makes it easy to understand the strategies and economic outlooks of the market! In Where The Money I$, Bob writes as he speaks, giving readers useful and down to earth information they could put into practice for themselves or when recomending to others. There is always going to be short-term information and daily events that affect us as investors or professionals. Bob gives us the global, long term perspective that will allow us to be successful.

Dr. Bob is Right on the Mark!
Thanks, Dr. Bob, for a great book on investing! This book is something I have needed to read for a long time. When reading investment books, the advice is often about IRAs, 401(k)'s, bonds, stock market, market timing, etc.

Dr. Bob's advice is in a totally different area. He believes in something called "sectornomics" which means if you look at all the industry sectors and determine which ones will do well in the next five years, then invest in several companies in that sector, your portfolio will do well. Don't worry about which particular stocks too much, just pick the right sector. Pharmaceuticals, let's say. Then, for the majority of the book, Dr. Bob goes on about the various trends in the US and worldwide which will whip the stock market sectors one way or another.

Should you bet on a Japanese resurgence in the next ten years? Don't think so. How about betting on the graying of America? Sure, says Dr. Bob, but remember, Europe and Asia are graying too.

Doesn't sectornomics break the rule of investing that "the only thing that makes the stock market go up or down is a surprise?" Doesn't everyone know about the graying of America? Yes, they know, but no, it doesn't break that rule. Sectornomics means "looking at the same thing everyone else looks at, and seeing something different." Your own perspective can give you the added advantage over the market.

Inspired by Dr. Bob, I began my own personal portfolio based on alternative energy, because I have found out that this sector is about to boom in the next 10 years. A little research (using the Internet of course) and now I have a list of about 30 companies who are extremely well positioned to make a lot of money once alternative energy goes big. The key for me was seeing the big players (United Technologies, Idatech, Xcel, BP, etc.) investing heavily into this sector. BP makes millions of dollars yearly from manufacturing solar cells.

Dr. Bob's knowledge of statistics is absolutely amazing. And his writing style is very approachable.

I heard Dr. Bob speak at an investment seminar in Columbus, Ohio. His speech was good but his book -- excellent. Just buy it. It is the best investment you will make this year.

Serious Investors Only!
If you want to learn the principles behind the stock market, and optimize the value of your money, then this is the book to pick up. Bob Froehlich gives you a new an innovative approach to the market arena. The book is Overall a terrific read, and an invaluable tool for guidance to investment practices.

OUR LIFE-WALK NEED NOT BE ALONE.....
STOP! LISTEN! Our life-walk need not be alone! Stephen Scalese has been blessed with an experience that will change the lives of those of us who employ the principles he has discovered and has shared within the pages of this book. By spending a few minutes a day in a receptive, peaceful mode, your answers to life struggles will become clearer and your life path less thorny. Why not LISTEN TO THE WHISPER WITHIN YOUR HEART?

Short-cut to Wholeness!
There is a quote - I'm not sure who said it - that the longest journey man will ever take lies in the distance between his head and his heart. Stephen G. Scalese's book, The Whisper in Your Heart, will significantly reduce the length of that particular journey for all who read it and apply its simple principles. I started my own journey some 10 years ago, and have been working fairly diligently at it ever since. First was a search for meaning in life - "Is this all there is?" Then came a spiritual awakening, that there was something larger than me at work in my life. Then came a search for simplicity and balance. Finally came the realization that wholeness is what we all seek, and that all life's answers have already been provided for and are already within us - we have only to carry them out. If we can find them, that is. Especially with all the distractions our lifestyle and culture can throw in our path. Scalese's book is a clear short-cut to tuning in your frequency to the channel that carries your answers within you - how I wish I had found it 10 years ago. After reading the first two chapters, tears of joy welled up inside me at the overwhelming sense of truth these words carry. It reminds me of a song by A Ragamuffin Band, "My Heart Already Knows," one line of which goes, "You know my head ain't even close to what my heart already knows." Read this book to learn what's already in your heart!

The Answer
Over and over as I read Stephen Scalese's book The Whisper in Your Heart, I found myself saying "This is it! This is the answer I have been searching for." I knew I had allowed logic to dominate my life and needed to find my way back to more balance. I had a nagging sense that the answers were within, believing we had been divinely given personal tools to wholeness. How to get there though had eluded me. I am so excited about The Whisper In Your Heart. Scalese has a talent not only for writing with clarity, but also for communicating the peace and wisdom of this most profound subject. I hold this book to be one of the most valuable in my library. It is an essential guide for living abundantly in every area of one's life.

I run, therefore I am - nuts
I got this book for my husband who loves to run, but hates to read. He has not put this book down. He is laughing throughout the whole thing because he can relate to SO much of what it says.
It is a great book, full of information, and also very entertaining! I recommend it for anyone. (Even I, a non-runner,
am enjoying the parts he reads out loud to me!)

Loved It!
I thoroughly enjoyed Bob's great book! Every runner will love it and laugh their way through. Bob humorously hits upon all running related things from drinking on the run to shoe obsession to coming back from an injury. He has a wonderfully droll sense of humor and every chapter is packed full of laughter. I shared this book with my running club and they all loved it! I highly, highly recommend it.

Running Nut!!
I have been a runner for over 30 years and in that time have read countless books on running and I must say I have NEVER read a work which captures the true essence of we "nutty" runners as Bob Schwartz's book, I Run Therefore I am... Nuts. Mr. Schwartz spots the humor in our running addiction and exposes it heart and soul. The book is a collection of essays which are brilliantly funny and cover everything from why we run to how we turn our training into a way of life. The humor is self-effacing and gently prodding and so utterly accurate that I laughed and laughed with each turn of the page. Excellent! I recommend it to any runner who has a tendency to take his running too seriously to those runners just getting started and wondering if they are...NUTS!! Write on!!

"HOGAN KNOWS" -- THIS BOOK IS A WINNER!!!
I'll be honest, I don't like fiction books. But I've got to tell you, A Mulligan for Bobby Jobe has changed my mind. Mr. Cullen adds so much detail that the reader comes away with a sense of actually being in touch with the cast of limited characters and the events taking place. The twists and unpredictable turns make the book a truly unforgettable experience. You don't need to be a golfer or a fan of golf to enjoy this novel. Can lightning strike twice? Absolutely!

WOW
If you love golf or even if you don't, this book is for you. It is probably the best book I have read EVER. It is that good. It has every thing. It is funny, touching, and makes any other novel pale in comparision. You know when a book is so good it keeps calling your name? Well, this screams your name until you drop everything and go read it. I have read good books, but nothing ever this good. Go buy this NOW!

One of the best!!!!
In the title for this review I indicate this book is one of the best and I don't mean as a book about golf, although it is certainly that. This is about so much more. It's about life, meeting challanges, dealing with adversity, and personal relationships, all wrapped up in a very interesting story about a professional golfer who after being blinded in a freak accident, finds that, with the help of others, especially his long suffering caddie, that he can again play the game and contend on the PGA Tour. How all of that happens is, of course, what the book is all about. It is funny, charming, inspiring and best of all, a wonderful story. Whether you play golf or not, you will find yourself captivated by this book.
