Great screenplay
Sling Blade is my favorite movie of all time. Even the smallest characters are so unforgettable. I've probably read this script as many times as I've seen the movie. I like that there were a few parts in the script that the movie left out. After reading this repeatedly, I realize that the movie was better off without the scenes, but there is some pretty funny dialogue concerning Doyle's friend, Randy Horsefeathers, who claims to be half-Indian. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, see the movie) There is also a pretty touching part (in the book) where Frank and Karl go to visit the girl who Frank has a crush on. It's a very emotional part of the story, but I'm glad that the scene didn't make it into the film. In the movie, the girl is mentioned and left at that. The filmed version would have thrown the film off balance, but it looks great on paper.

If you loved this movie, do yourself a favor and get the book. It's a must have for any fan and it can be read in a sitting.

"A nice home fried tater."
There are shooting scripts and there are screenplays. If you want to know more about a movie, if there's a shooting script, that's probably your best bet. If you just want the dialogue to a film, then you probably want to read the screenplay. Miramax doesn't publish shooting scripts as far as I know, so you're stuck with what they do publish. Often times, a screenplay doesn't live up to the film it's words are taken from. Fortunately, that is not the case here. This is an excellent screenplay with all the dialogue from the movie and just a tad bit more. If you've never seen the movie, this is a time when reading the screenplay before hand might be worth your while. There is a lot of great dialogue here and reading it on the page takes nothing away from the action you will see on the screen.

A must have for any Billy Bob fan
This book follows the movie pretty much word for word. I like having things in print--I love this screenplay and if you like the movie, you'll love it too.

buy this book! buy this book!
you're stupid if you don't snap this one up; enough said.

The interpenetration of the universes has begun....
This seemingly light and trivial book covers some extremely heavy and profound concepts. In fact, it is amazing how well a few pictures, diagrams, and cartoons can clarify concepts better than chapters of dense text from more "scholarly" sources. Of course, if the pictures don't do it for you, there is the excellent commentary by Fred Allen Wolf, as well as, an extensive bibliography for further reading.

I've lost track of how many times I've read this little book since it first started to crack open my narrow Newtonian mind-set back in the '80's. It is an especially good book to read just before going to sleep- the subconscious loves to process this level of material. Here is the best introduction to not only the probably structure of the universe of space-time, but to what lies beyond it. You get very interesting speculations on the nature of paranormal phenomena, reincarnation, the nature of archetypes and the mythological level of perception, survival after death- all of which conventional "science" choses to reject or ignore.

I especially enjoyed the discussion of how quantum waves can affect all levels of existance simultaneously at different scales of organization from sub-atomic, to the natural world of normal perception, to the human mind, to the stellar and galactic level. It adds new significance to the ancient maxim, "As above, so below." This is especially true when you consider that human consciousness helps function as a co-creator of the perceived material world ( along with our higher Selves beyond space-time.) In fact, the purpose of existance seems to be to reunite ourselves with ourselves so that all of creation may become fully aware of itself in harmony.

Yeah, I know it sounds pretty "hippy-dippy", that is it does until you begin to seriously contemplate the true nature of things....

Thought Provoking
I've been one to dabble in quantum physics on and off in the theoretical field for a good part of my life. Toben and Wolf's book made it a lot of fun when I was first starting out. As I expand my knowledge of the relationships of this universe, I still come back to this work. If you happen to get your hands on a copy, guard it jealously! I'm in search of a copy for my adopted niece, and don't intend to lose mine!

Understanding Physics
I have read Space-Time and Beyond many times. At first I re-read it to see if there was something I missed in the first reading. Two things you will notice when reading this book.

First: It was a collaboration between a physicist and a layman.
Second: The appendix is the meat of the book.

First, the reader will read a comic book like explanation of mysticism and psychic phenomena. These are the speculative portion of the book. The appendix then verifies these odd occurences through reference to Natural phenomena,at the sub-atomic level. The speculative part is fascinating and very imaginative, but for me now, in Wolf and Toben's vision I see a model of the universe mapped in the macrocosm as extrasensory reality and realized in the microcosm as quantum physics. A visual mnemonic device which the young physicist can utilize to determine the direction of his research based on his own intuition and not that of his mentor.

Thank you Pam, Frank, Colonel J, Dr A, Harjit, Derrick, Shlomo, Dr B, Dan, Jeff, Trappuzzano et. al.

an amazing book
This is for sure one of the most amazing books I ever read. It's a pity it is out-of-print. I have the brazilian translation and was looking of the american edition. Highly recommended.

Talk About Hope: Two Bob Hope Writers Trade Stories
Published in Paperback by Jester Pr (1998)
Authors: Gene Perret, Martha Bolton, and Phyllis Diller
Amazon base price: $6.95
Average review score:

Great book! And this from another Hope writer!
Gene and Martha have done a superb job capturing the essence of Hope. I wrote for Bob myself and know what he was like on a day-to-day basis and they nailed him. He was a true joy to work for and left all of us with valued memories of experiences we'd otherwise have only dreamed of. Gene and Martha have documented what it was like to work for a legend. My hat's off to them both!

An amazing book on the behind scenes of a Comedy Ledgen.
If you read just one book on Show Business this is the one!! I can't tell you how much I enjoyed the experinece of going behind the scenes with two of Bob Hope's Comedy Writers. Both writers paint a real and exciting picture of a true comedy ledgend. I would also reccomend that anyone interrested in becoming a comedy writer read this book.

Good for a few thousand laughs!
Trust me. Read this one. Any fan of Hope, or any fan of comedy, will love the behind-the-scenes stories of being on the road with Hope. How the punch lines came about are as funny as the lines themselves. I bought a copy for my Dad - a BIG Hope fan - with the intention of stealing it back. No such luck. He won't let it go!

Educational, informative, and very entertaining
This book captures the essence of Tequila from the perspective of making it and drinking it. I found it especially interesting in giving the reader a glimpse into the day to day activities of the tequila business.

Awesome reference guide for all things tequila!
Lance and Sandys adventure in the land of Tequila is not only entertaining but a highly informative read on the growing world of tequila. A must-have reference guide to take you thru the various types available, written by someone who obviously has had a few! I like the tasting pyramid too.

The distillation of tequila as explained by Lance Cutler.
For the tequila lover, this book is worth checking out simply for the explanation of the different ways that tequila is produced, from archaic to ultra modern. The information on the different types of tequila, the different nuances of types, basic information about traveling in the region, and the food of the region are a huge plus.

Deliriously happy at [any price!]
I bought Unmistakably Mackie after drooling over the book for nearly a year. It is beautiful, it is entertaining, it is over the top, it is history. It is also a fine education in costume design and fashion illustration.
I have other books that feature Mackie's unrivalled fashion illustrations, but here I can see and almost touch the finished costumes that made Cher and Carol and Ann-Margaret. I can finally analyze how they are made.
Please, don't wait to buy this wonderful book. and it is well worth getting a new, pristine copy of this treasure.

Unmistakably Mackie -- if you love fashion...you'll love Bob
WOW! WOW! WOW! Unmistakably Mackie is a fabulous fashion book! This is by far my favorite book! The photography is stunning. The creative type layouts are imaginative. The sketches are wonderful. Anyone interested in costume &/or fashion design will LOVE this book writen by Frank DeCaro ("Style over Substance" columnist for the NY Times).

As a designer & illustrator just starting out, I find no end of inspiration in this book! The sketches are delightful and the outfits are always immaginative. (Looking at the photos & sketches, I found out I can draw Cher too!) :o)

Before reading this book on Bob Mackie, I had no idea the extent of his influence. I just knew I liked his designs. Now he is undoubtedly my favorite designer. (I want to do what he does!) This man has done everything...from his own ready-to-wear fashion line to Broadway, television (Cher and Carol Burnett), movies, ballet, an opera, Vegas and Barbie! If there's something he hasn't designed for, I'd be surprised.

I heartily recommend this book!

For fashion fans everywhere!
This survey of the fashion and fantasy of fashion designer Mackie examines his many contributions. Mackie created works for popular television as well as film and stage: Unmistakably Mackie considers his life, fashion designs and revealing outfits. Plenty of color photos of actresses in full outfit abound.

The Unofficial Guide to Las Vegas 1997 (Unofficial Guides)

THE NEEDED BOOK before going to VEGAS.
This is a COMPREHENSIVE BOOK that should be read before going to LAS VEGAS for the first time. It should give much value to the reader, i just find that it sometimes is too THICK and have many unnecessary information inside, maybe just slimmering it a bit will be much better... We enjoy the MYSTERE recommendation and went to see it with great satisfaction... AND AMAZON is the PLACE to buy this kind of difficult to get (HERE in INDONESIA) books of special interest.

If you only get one book on Las Vegas...
Great deal of info, particularly in the areas of planning and saving money, finding the cheapest deal, etc. Great overview and opinionated review of hotels, restaurants, buffets, casino, etc., and a good general intro to all the casino games. Areas that are just a tad weak: Comps (or freebie's for players), lighter weight treatment of outlying casinos that aren't on the Strip or downtown, and perhaps a little bit out of date for this fast-changing city. But despite all these the book is highly recommended.

Don't go without this book
Easily the best $14 we could have invested before our trip! The reviews were candid and witty and right on target. We followed the authors' advice and were extremely pleased with restaurants, casinos, and especially shows. If you take only one book with you to Las Vegas, let this be the one.

Shadow over Babylon: A Novel

Great, but not Excellent
Mason's work in Shadow is an excellent beginning to an author that possesses such a deep understanding of military manuvers, lingo, etc. The details are what captured me in this book, particularly the story of the team's sniper. I felt a little lost towards the middle of the book, but I suppose most book are that way. Overall, he is NO Clancy, however, his next book is still something I would like to take a look at.

GOOD JOB!

-Sunil James

Shadow Over Babylon is worth the time taken to read it.
Mason was good at making this premise work, even though he was working with the handicap that came with setting this a few years back. We know the history of the Gulf War aftermath, so where's the suspense in reading about this crack team headed to take Mr. Hussein down? It's there all right. Obviously this is the work of a sharp intelligence. If Mr. Mason were to write another novel, I'd be sure to at least take a look at it.

Proberly the best book ever written
Shadow over Babylon was given to me by a friend, he said that the book was impossible to put down. I thought that this might be a bit of an exageration, so i decided to read it. I ended up reading the book in 4 days while during my summer holidays. I can honestly say that this is the best book that i have ever read. My favourite author may be Wilbur Smith but this book eclipses anything that he has ever written. David Mason's second book Little Brother is also worth reading.

Good Science Presented in an Artful Manner
WOW! I got lucky and picked up this book as my first book on shotgunning. Now I'm hooked! Brister's easy going presentation is combined with his technically complete analysis of exhaustive research to give anybody mildly interested in the shotgun a series of lessons they will cherish forever. From initial training to gun fitting to shot ballistics to international competition, this book provides it all!

Practical Information on Shotgunning by an expert!
Bob Brister takes into account shot "stringing" and its effects on targets/gamebirds. Although most shotgun patterns are measured by the percentage of pellets striking a 30" circle at a measured distance; all pellets do not arrive at the same instant. Bristers method shows what really happens with a clever system that illustrates the effect of shot when applied to a moving target.Want to shoot better and have a better understanding of why you miss? Buy the book!

An excellent, in depth treatment of shotguns and shotgunning
This book is probably responsible for more people (including me) taking up shotgun shooting than any other book.It is considered "the bible" of shotgunning. It covers the basics, such as gun fit and learning to shoot,as well as several fascinating, and readily understandable technical sections on chokes, loads, shotstrings, velocities, and much more. If you read this book, you will get hooked by the most fun, challenging, and fascinating sport there is.
