Growing Maturity in the Christian Life
Fantastic book! If you are looking for a resource to help take you deeper into understanding the word of God and the workings of God, then this it. So many times throughout the book, Mr. Sorge captures exactly what I am thinking and saying as I go through my own "fire" in life right now. His writing on God's purposes for broken faith and broken strength make sense and bring me peace that I am right where God wants me to be. It helps me to know that God is pouring out his mercy and love on me at this time in my life to prepare me for His works and blessings. In short, this book is helping me get where I wanted to go, which was to grow in intimacy with God.

The only caution I have is that this is a very meaty read. It is deep spiritual work and highly thought-provoking. I'm not sure I would recommend it to new Christians because I think you need to have a certain level of maturity in your Christian life to really comprehend and incorporate the teachings from this book into your spiritual walk.

Overall, just a fantastic book!

The Fire of Delayed Answers
This is another exceedingly hopeful book on living through the periods of testing mature Christians are called to endure. Sorge is the only author I've read so far who emphasizes the "delay" or "waiting" piece of this and why waiting is like going through the fire. Throughout the book he offers pithy memorable hopeful "truths" to meditate upon when the world looks at your situation and calls you deluded. This is a "how to" book, as well as an encouragement to those going through the fire. Don't give up.

For Serious Desciples of Jesus Christ
If you find yourself in the heat of the refiner's fire and have exhausted all your traditional sources of comfort and answers, this book will give you a ton to think about as you develop a new sense of perspective about your journey toward Christ-likness. If you are in the heat of it right now and crave Biblical insights and practical suggestions get this book NOW. Mr. Sorge writes in an accessible style from his own personal experiences and helps serious believers navigate the rough waters. In the end, you still have to work through your issues, but "Fire" will give you the encouragement you need to hang in there. Just outstanding!

The Genesis of Power Chess: Effective Winning Technique for Strategy and Tactics

If this reprints then BUY it.
I just ordered the last existing copy of this book (really, its now out of print) and when it arrived I was not disappointed. All I can add to the above reviews of this book is that it was written first to instruct and second to make money rather than the other way around. Much effort was put into preparing the 700 increasingly difficult puzzles, with solutions below the diagrams. Written by the co-author of the famous and still in print Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess, Mr. Ault deals primarily with endgame positions, with some middle game positions which mainly require a strategic continuation. The publisher of this book, Thinkers's Press, releases very few books but all are of a special home-made quality, not rushed out products like most major book publishers who are under a deadline to distribute their products as fast and to as wide an audience as possible. The author is a US master who teaches college in New York.

Superb guide to chess strategy and positional thinking
This is a terrific book by a relatively little-known author. Ault is an experienced tournament chess player, and a recognized authority in psychology and training methods. His book should be better known, since it is one of the best approaches I have ever read (and I've read quite a few) to the complex and abstract subject of positional chess thinking. He has developed a very logical and systematic approach, building from simple concepts (basic mates, basic endgames) to more difficult ones (knight outposts, knights vs bishops, controlling key squares, etc). He wrote another, earlier chess book (The Chess Tutor: Elements of Combinations) addressing the basic tactical themes of chess (pins, skewers, forks, etc). This is another gem of a book. He also co-authored the classis book Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess, and developed the chess training method pioneered by that book. If you're looking to improve your understanding of positional chess, then The Genesis of Power Chess will be well worth your time. I'm working my way through it for the third time - each time I read it, my game gets a little better.

A GEM!
I cannot believe that this is not a wildly popular book! Somonerecommended it to me on the newsgroup, and I cannot get over how greatthis teacher is! He is lifting me gently, challenging me, and bringing me along! I feel like this is private lessons! Everything he does is logical and makes sense! This ought to be right up there with "Reassess Your Chess" with Silman, and Yasser's books also! Are there MORE by this author?

Great!!! Exciting read!!!
Wow! This is a great book! It reads like it should be a movie! I had a friend tell me about this book and I took a chance. I've never heard of the author, but he should do more and someone should take notice!! It is extremely well written and moves quickly with good twists and turns. I've been to South Florida and could see it all happening. I highly recommend it and will pass the word on to friends.
We need more like this one!

Make This a Major Movie!
I came across this book after doing an online search for thrillers. I was stunned, actually. The plot is so strong, the characters so believable and the sense of newsroom realism perfect -- and I'm a former journalist! I could see this as a bigtime movie with someone like John Cusack in the lead role. Wow -- I highly recommend this one to anybody who wants a great, exciting, fast-paced thriller to read!

What a great, fun book!
This was unexpected. A friend of mine said he met the author and read the book and that I should read it. I did. I bought it here at Amazon and was really surprised by the ending. It is a great book about journalism, while at the same time it's a great thriller. I could see this as a movie, really. I highly recomment this read to anyone who likes a fun, fast-paced thriller with some good twists and turns. This book should be a best-seller.

Kwanza-riffic!
The Gumbs family knows their Kwanza and shares wonderfully! This is an amazing and enlightening little book on how to celebrate Kwanza with your children and (if you're still together) spouse. There are recipes (including one for an excellent spiced rum chicken) and ideas for party games (Coffee-pot suprise is our family's favorite). I highly recommend this book if you are looking to educate yourself in this misunderstood holiday.

How to plan a Kwanza celebration
This is one of the finest books I have read on the subject of a Kwanza celebration. It is a how-to book that will give anyone interested in learning the many aspects of Kwanza the tools to prepare and enjoy a memorable and festive occasion.

In fact, this book not only discusses other Kwanza events but has many timely and tasty recipes that will make the advanced and beginner cook take notice.

This is one of the most important books I have read to date and I would suggest that anyone wanting to know the true meaning and cultural message of Kwanza, read this book!

Health Care Meltdown: Confronting the Myths and Fixing Our Failing System

Are we enabling a trajedy?
As the medical director of a "safety net" community clinic I confront the trajedy that is our U.S. health care system on a daily basis. Bob LeBow's book succinctly captures the perversions and frustrations that have grown out of our free market approach to health care. Squeezing profits from the weak and vulnerable may be a way, but should not be the American way. Bob highlights the myths sponsored by the big money interests in the current system, and offers realistic solutions that appear entirely within our grasp. After reading Health Care Meltdown I am forced to reconsider what I do for a living. By serving as a safety net provider, by providing care for the poor and sick who are systematically excluded from our health care system, am I enabling our broken system to persist? Perhaps I should instead stand back and let the current system implode, hoping for a more just and equitable system to emerge from the ashes.

Healthcare Meltdown is a "MUST READ"!
Anyone interested in health care in the United States needs to read this book. Dr. LeBow takes lessons learned from his years of practice in rural Idaho and looks at the human costs of not having universal healthcare for all of our people.

Health Care Meltdown
This book was interesting, fast-paced, incredibly eye-opening and well-researched.

A Very Interesting Read!
While looking for a book by Dr. Bob Arnot, I accidently came to this book review for Dr. Bob and The Good Oldtimers. Well, I read the reviews and then asked an AA friend of mine of he had the book in his library. He did, so I borrowed it.

There's no author listed in the book, so I gather it might have been written by a group of archivists? The writing has that dry, "committee" like feel to it. Which is a little sad, because Bob Smith lived one interesting life! His story is very inspiring.

I read it in one sitting, about three hours, so it's not long. From my perspective, you don't have to be an alcoholic to enjoy this book. Cause I enjoyed it.

Best of the bunch
The only historical work out of GSO worth reading. Brings home the powerful message that the good Doctor carried. Gives one puase to think of what AA could have become if Bob had outlived Bill.

I liked it!
This is a very interesting biography. His life took many fascinating twists and turns. Some of the other reviewers noted that the writing is a little bland, but it really doesn't get in the way of a good story!

THE....... Hole
Dynamic pictures.... factual historic information...bought 3 for Christmas gifts.

more than just a coffee table book!
I originally bought this book as a gift, but ended up keeping it for myself! I have never seen a "coffee table book" that is so well written. The photography is what initially grabs your attention, but the stories and historical information are what keep you coming back for more. I would recommend this book to anyone, whether they have an interest in Jackson Hole's past and present, or they just like looking at amazing photographs.

if you love to ski/ snowboard Jackson Hole...
... this is your book. The history of the area is fascinating, but the interviews with the locals really bring this book to life. David Gonzales has collected a plethora of amazing pictures from the area's best photographers, too. Whether you've just visited Jackson Hole or have lived in the area, 'Jackson Hole: On a Grand Scale' brings back great memories of skiing and snowboarding a place that's like no other!

If you know what I mean, and I think you do.
Excellent reading for the b-movie (and otherwise) fan. Not only do we get movie reviews with blood, breast and decapitation counts, we get a bit of history watching Joe Bob's (John Bloom) Dallas newspaper column pro-gress. Part of the fun is knowing that this stuff was printed in the newspaper, in Dallas, in the 80s. He gets in spats with various entities (the mayor of Irving, TX) and creates endearing (or disgusting, depending on your perspective) fictional characters. I particularly enjoyed the letters-to-the-editor he would respond to. Only 4 stars because he basically says to check out every movie he reviews (even if it sucks).

We're Talking Serious Chopsocky, Here, Folks
...and we're talking an anthology of uniquely American satire - by a man who truly believes that a sacred cow is worth but one thing (namely: steak!) - with that classic American institution of sideward mobility (the drive-in theater) serving merely as the setup man for the most classic lancing of America's boils since H.L. Mencken roasted the booboisie and Artemus Ward proclaimed that if we can't find a live man who's worth a thing, by all means let us find a first class corpse.

Beaucoup garbanzas, mountains of mashed internal organs, kung fooey out the yin-yang, slashings, smashings, chainsawings, bonechoppings, drillings, you name it. And it isn't just the cheeseball drive-in celluloid (yes, children, once upon a time there was celluloid) that gets dismembered, disemboweled, and dehydrated by the classic Briggs scythe: it's the absolute and utter pretentiousness of the smugger-than-thou film critic colony (there are exceptions; you will know them by their lack of implied slash in a typical Joe Bob joust) and the politically correct pissants who tried, and in the long run failed, to bring him down, that get the real roasting in here.

(Come on - you don't REALLY think "We Are The World" was either sacred or a cow, so much as it was a lot of bull, as any of those starving African children - who gorged themselves on all the food the monies didn't provide them, because it was lining the hips of the Communist french fry heads who ran the show in Ethiopia, gave one gander to the white man formerly known as the black man named Michael Jackson and friends, with their precious pietous paen to giving until it hurt, and decided they'd had their biggest laugh since the invention of the axle - can tell you. Do you? And these days, Joe Bob's slash-and-burn against Wacko and the gang would be considered downright lightweight, compared to some of the chazerei getting spouted off by cable TV comics and the lunatics fringe left and right.)

Rated OK for gratuitous satire. DukeBob says check it out. Five stars. (Actually, there's only one star of this show.)

This is OUT OF PRINT? Dumb move
by Delacourt, this is a cult classic just as much as any of the movies Joe Bob reviews. John Bloom's beer-guzzling, womanizing, politically incorrect alter ego unleashes subtle social commentary while reviewing some of the worst travesties ever committed to film based on the number of people who die, how they die, and how many women take their tops off. In fact, Bloom goes so far as to have Joe Bob say some incisive things that get him banned from Texas newspapers, since humor is not tolerated well by the masses. Stephen King writes the intro. If you are a fan of all that is bad in cinema (lo-budget horror, women in jail films, kung fu), you cannot go thru life not reading this. ....

Five stars. I say check it out.

good keepsake
Interesting comments from other players, but not a lot of new information for fans who have followed John's career. Nice book to have for a sports collection.

Was a birthday present
I got this book from my wife as a birthday present, and immediately sat down and read it cover to cover. I knew a lot of the info in the book already, having been a Bronco fan since 1972, but it did refresh a lot of old (and somewhat painful) memories. I feel this book is a "must have" for any Bronco/Elway fan.

This is a Great book for all Broncos fans. A++++
This book (Biography of John Elway) shows not only History of John Elway, but also of his Teamates and other Players around the NFL . This book is loaded with Players, Coaches, and the Owner of the Denver Broncos.
