Outstanding book for all ages!
I first read the book "Alice" when I was about 13 or 14. It remains one of my favorite books of all time. The expression of unconditional love that is shown is something everyone could be reminded of now and again. I hope to read it to my children someday.

This book is amazing and wonderful!
Hi my name is Kate and I'm in the 6th grade when my fellow classmates and I went to our school Library to check out books I saw "Alice". When I picked it up I saw the great reviews on the cover. When I started to read the book I thought it was amazing and could'nt put it down! I like the Southern accent that Ellie and Sammy have and how it is so realistict, triumphant and touching. When I heard it was a cable Lifetime movie I wanted to watch it. Now my mom wants to read Alice, and I reccomended Alice to my friends. Now I'm going to try to find "Sudie" at my local Library. I really hope that Sara Flanigan will come out with another wonderful book!

The BEST
I remember reading this book, and thinking it was the most beautiful book ever written. Im pretty sure I read it at the age of 12 or 13, just picking up it out of the shelf... I didn't expect the book to capture me the way it did. I remember trying to look for the book at a bookstore, and being dissappointed when I didn't find it. I was sure amazon would have it, but im saddened that its currently unavailiable. All I have to say is that this book will not dissapoint.

Ophelia's Mom - from one of the contributing authors
As a contributing author to Ophelia's Mom I feel this book shares a message of hope, inspiration, and courage. During signings of this book, I have spoken about the personal growth I went through while struggling with with the ups and downs of my daughter. I feel all the moms who contributed showed courage in finding their voice. Many moms did not answer the call to contribute and half of us who did, wrote under assumed names. Personally, I would not have minded going public, however, I chose to protect my daughter's privacy. My daughter was not in a frame of mind to understand this project, therefore, I did not seek her permission to write about her. Yet, I felt immensely compelled to get my message of hope out to the public - so we changed the names. Other moms had their own reasons and I think that's what makes the book so special. As a life coach, I use Ophelia's Mom as a resource for my clients who are struggling with teen issues and who are trying to 'let go' and find themselves.

straight talk
I read this book and looked at my seven year old thinking "will this happen to you?
A fascinating, truthful, touching and sometimes painful look at the mother's point of view. I was amazed by the strength of many of these women and grew to see myself as a mother differently. Definitey a good book for a mom like me who realizes that letting go is not as easy as it sounds.

Breaking the silence
sorry- the follwoing is a correction: the title of the exhibit at National Museum of Women in the Arts is "Rapunzel, Rapunzel! Let Down Your Hair." thru Jan.27. (don't know how to retrieve the original so hope this will do. kmg

A Tale for All Ages
This is a life-changing book. It looks like a children's book but do not be confused, it is for all.

The situations in this book about life and reacting to the daily events of life are written with an unbelievable warmth and simplicity! Why didn't I see it that way before?...It's message is so obviously true!

I cannot think of a better book to give anyone. It is a true uplifter and teacher.

Thank you, Jerry and Esther for sharing this wonderful message with the rest of us!!

Best "facts of life" book around.
This is must reading for anyone who can read. I loved it and plan on reading it many times. Everyone I've given it to (you never get it back) has loved it and plan on giving it to their children and grandchildren as I have. No sex in this book. Just great lessons in life.

One of the best teachings!!!
I was recommended this book when I discovered all about awareness, energy and the power of love. This is a GREAT book. I've loaned it out several times with rave reviews coming back to me. My daughter couldn't put it down and did a GREAT project on it for school! A MUST read!

Empowering
After reading this powerful book,I was inspired, motivated and empowered, to seek my true God given purpose. This book offers practical and simple tools to aid in finding direction in every area of one's life.

Great job!!

REAL motivation, no hype
As a writer and inspirational speaker, I can honestly say that this book inspired and motivated me! Sarah Freeman Smith does what few writers have the courage to do....she lets us see her as a person, not as a critical expert sitting up on a throne. After only a few pages, I found myself in awe of Sarah's life story. If anyone can tell us how to turn dull lives of stone into shimmering gems, it's Sarah. I put her in the league with Iyanla Van Zandt and Jewel Diamond Taylor!

Great book!
Enjoyed this book so much! I would recommend it to my friends.

Perfect for teens of all ages!
As a teacher, I found this book to be an excellent resource, not only for myself, but for all my students. The authors have an acute knowledge of the pressures teens deal with today and address those issues in ways every teen can relate to and find comfort in. I HIGHLY recommend it!

Extremely useful book!
Most of our children are very stressed in our highly competitive society. This book is very timely, and written in a way that children can understand. My children have enjoyed reading it, and have gotten a lot out of it.

Can't beat it for good old favorites
Some of the directions were a bit complicated to follow, or didn't match what I knew the recipies to be. However, for the most part, this is right out of my memories of my great Nana!

Good basic guide to traditional Jewish cooking.
Along with The Joy of Cooking for everyday basic cooking, I learned to prepare tradiditional Ashkenazic (Eastern European) Jewish dishes from Love and Knishes when it was first published 40 years ago when I was a newly-wed. The recipes and preparation instructions in Love and Knishes are simple, the ingredients are usually staples and the commentary is very funny, even if now viewed as, perhaps, stereotypical. The recipes are easily adaptable to today's guidelines to healthier (lower fat content) guidelines. I'm giving this as a gift to my soon to be new daughter-in-law. If your mom didn't keep kosher or prepare traditional dishes for holidays, sabbath etc. then Love and Knishes is a good place to start learning.

The all-time masterpiece of Eastern European Jewish cooking
Love and Knishes is the original, the all-time classic, the true source of the taste of Jewish cooking handed down from our grandparents. It is the first Jewish cooking book you need, and if you buy ten more you will still be using this one to make your carrot tzimmes with matzo meal flour knaidel for passover seder. Not incidentally, Sara Kasdan brought to the book a distinctive, lively, engaging voice that makes for an eminently readable cookbook. Now, if they would just bring it out again in hardcover, like the original . . .

A terrific collection of heartland, heart-warming recipes
Judith M. Fertig's "Prairie Home Cooking" is a wonderful compendium of heartland recipes that will make you feel like a modern-day Laura Ingalls Wilder in the kitchen. It is the kind of book you want to sit down and devour while sitting on the couch, drinking a cup of tea and nibbling at a homemade oatmeal cookie.

The recipes are wide-ranging, taking their cue from the many immigrants who settled the American west and midwest. There are many German and Scandinavian recipes here, which is in keeping with the immigration percentages, but there are lots of Native American, Russian, Italian, and other "flavors" in the mix as well.

Sara Love's superb illustrations deserve special mention. These block print pictures lend such a homey, heartland atmosphere to the book and complement Fertig's comfortable-as-old-slippers voice beautifully. This book is a treasure!

History Lesson and Old-Fashioned Cooking
Prairie Home Cooking is the kind of cookbook you curl up and read with before ever entering the kitchen. Wonderfully written, it interweaves heartland history with beloved recipes. Growing up in the country, this cookbook took me back to simpler times and the comforts of food made with love. As I plan my move back to the prairie and grow my own food, this book will serve as my never-ending reference and companion. The Blue-Ribbon Brownies recipe (page 373) will make you the most popular baker around! My ancestors, being German, probably made many of the recipes in this cookbook. I am honored to replicate them. Prairie Home Cooking is my very favorie cookbook. A huge variety of recipes- something for everyone!

Cross cultural fun
I gave this cookbook as a Christmas present to a very good German friend of mine who loves to cook and we had fun noticing the similarities between the recipes in the book and the traditional recipes of Germany.

Informative, money and time-saving book
This book covers a lot. It saved me time and money.

Lots of Help for Publishers and Would-Be Publishers
Mack and Sara Smith have created a down-to-earth, useful guide for anyone contemplating publishing. From the reality check on whether you should write and publish a book, to the resources to help your project succeed, you will find lots of useful information.

Two of the areas in which this book excels are the information on e-books and e-publishers and the extensive appendix of resources. Many of the resources, such as organizations, are of special interest to women and minority writers.

If you are thinking about publishing a book, start by investing in this book. It can save you time and money and help make your project successful.

A must read for aspiring writers who will self publish.
This book contains a vast wealth of crucial information for the self publisher. Mack and Sara have done an excellent job of outlining the steps and providing additional reference information. A few of the the topics covered are the publishing industry, starting a business, ISBN & copyright info, book cover designs, publicity campaign, media release, budget, advice, tools of the trade and literary organizations.

Mack and Sara conduct regular free workshops at local Houston bookstores. I highly recommend this book for all aspiring literary entrepreneurs. Add it to your resource library prior to embarking on the publishing journey and it will help you avoid mistakes. If you have already begun the journey, it is still a must read for future references.

I am speaking from experience. I am included in the large number of self published literary entrepreneurs. This book provided me with expert advice, motivation and encouragement.

Pretty Good Recipes
Not the best toddler cookboook I have found but suits it's purpose. A lot of the recipes seem based on British/ European foods that I am pretty sure my family would not like. I wished that there were more independant recipes for kids rather than breaking down the family meal into adult, toddler and baby. But, the suggestions I have used are simple and tasty, great to amuse the kids and healthy to boot. Some pretty good ideas in here.

Excellent source for nutritious, tasty meals for kids!
I like to make sure my child is getting great nutrition and eating all the right foods. Who said that every child has to eat hot dogs, french fries, chicken fingers, etc. If you follow these recipes and get your child eating these types of foods early on, your chances are much greater that they will be excellent eaters as the get older. I borrowed my book and have to return it, so the publisher definitely needs to go back to the printing press.

wonderful
i must agree with carol erkam -- i also cheked the book from the library
