Fun for kids & art-lovers!
I first came across a Sara Fanelli book at the library in which I work and was immediately captivated. Her artwork--a combination of collage, drawing & painting--has the color and spontaneity of children's art, but the choice and handling of materials is very much that of a "mature" artist.

The Doggy Book has the added bonus of fold-outs in the front and back which transform the book into a doggy (Bubu?). Complete with tied-on "bone" bookmark--great fun!

I'm a fan of children's picture books anyway--some of the best examples of contemporary art are to be found inside them, and Sara Fanelli is one of the best and most original!

Check out her other titles, too.

Doggy is Divine!!!
i ENJOYED THIS CLEVER LITTLE BOOK THAT MAKES YOU WANT TO BE A DOG OR AT THE VERY LEAST OWN ONE.

Doggy is a fantastic find!!!!It is so clever and full of life, and it is great for all ages!!! I am buying a number of copies to give to children for my dog's Fifth Birthday in August! It is the perfect party favor!! Ms. Fanelli must adore dogs as much as I do!!!!!

A sweeping tale of loss and love -and the costs thereof.
The Duke of Sumava by Sara J.Wrench starts a little like Indiana Jones -at full speed! It is a fantasy, but not quite like the traditional story of questing hero battles evil and wins a maiden fair in the land of Fairy. This takes place in the all too real 30-year war that raged in Europe in the 17:th century -a time when meddling with anything outside the beliefs of the catholic church was likely to get you killed -if you were lucky! The Duke of Sumava has to deal not only with impending invasion as well as with the prejudice of both men and elves. He must also struggle with his own beliefs and convictions to finally decide what his Sumava is worth: His love? His life? His soul? Don't miss this new author who has managed to bring fantasy to a new level.

Love conquers all
The Duke of Sumava is a story about a man, Duke Ottokar, willing to sacrifice his all to protect his people. For their sakes will he sell his soul and risk eternal damnation? Will his love of a woman of the race of legend turn every heart against him? And when he thinks his problems couldn't get worst he discovers a secret about himself that could get him burn at the stake. This story will leave you rooting for the underdog. It's a must read for fantasy lover.*****

Dumbstruck
This is one of the funniest children's books I have ever read. I would recommend it to adults!I understand that Ms. Pennypacker is about to publish some new material. I hope to see more writting about Ivy and all the other zany crew in her new books. Bravo!

A superb children's book.
Dumbstruck is one of our favorite books. It stretches our imagination and takes us into the best kind of childhood fantasy. Borage and Armilda Clott get what they deserve when their orphans exact their revenge... We can't wait for Sara Pennypacker's next book and hope it's just as good. 10 times better than James and the Giant Peach

Eating Your Way to Better Health: The Prostate Forum Nutrition Guide

WOW
This is a very unique book designed to inform and support persons recently diagnosed with PC, as well as help those who want to live a more healthy lifestyle. The plan includes excellent information on the foods that are powerful sources of phytonutrients and how these substances contribute to the process of healthful living. The information comes from one with years of experience in cancer research and those skilled in preparing healthful foods. The book walks you through the path toward better health. It contains excellent resources for further study.

Inadequate title for a very good book
The title makes this volume sound like one of the dozens (hundreds?) of "healthy eating" books on the market. The recipes in fact look very healthy and rather appetizing. However, the first half of the book is probably THE BEST explanation of prostate cancer and the known dietary influences on the disease that I've seen. Specific nutrients are considered in detail one after another, and the most current studies regarding each are carefully summarized and compared (it appears that virtually every significant study regarding the impact of nutrition on prostate cancer up to the publication date of the book is cited in the chapter notes). Dr. Myers is a well respected medical researched (formerly at NIH, and now at the University of Virginia), and writes carefully and clearly. He makes it clear that there are no known magic bullets, and builds a very convincing case for a balanced low fat, low calorie diet, emphasizing regular consumption of certain foods, with clear explantions of the rationale for each recommendation. Highly recommended.

Vast Resource, but contact info out of date
They've done the research and list many scholorships in an uncluttered format. Scholarships are listed by the geographical location in which the scholarship is to be used. The contact information tends to be out of date, but it is possible to find the current information, albeit with a little work.

Interested in international education? Look no further!
Financial Resources for International Study is a must have for anyone wishing to attend school outside of the U.S. Every scholarship and financial aid option imaginable is listed within the book, which if you recieve one of those, could pay for the book itself easily! I would highly recommend this book to anyone who, like me, has to get out and see the world through education but cannot always pay for all of it.

A practical career guide offering personal style surveys
Now in a newly revised and updated edition for the twenty-first century, Finding Your Perfect Work by Paul Edwards and Sarah Edwards is a practical career guide offering personal style surveys, information about degree requirements, an alphabetical directory of self-employment careers, and much, much more. A handy, easy-to-use resource for finding a path in life that one enjoys most, Finding Your Perfect Work is a welcome and recommended addition to personal, job center, and career counseling reference collections and reading lists.

The most in-depth work at home book I have read
As a business consultant for home based business start-ups and self-employment I've found "Finding Your Perfect Work" a most valuable tool. In reading it I found that it goes in-depth into self-exploration which is something a lot of people need to do before attempting to start a business. I also found this book to be an asset in using "real" people as examples. I think we all want to hear about the person who's made it the hard way once in a while. It makes the journey for us that much more realistic. The way the book was divided up into areas such as the Directory of Self-Employment Careers by Personal Style is very helpful and easy to use. When using this book in a workshop, I found that my clients really had to "work" at finding out what they're best suited for...and they all agreed it was worth going through that work. The work sheets provide not only an area for people to get the thought process moving but I feel it also makes them more accountable for what they are doing. I've discovered this book is also a valuable resource for my business along with being a tool in which I can expand and improve my own business. I highly recommend this book to all who are considering going into business for themselves.

really great advice
This book is terrific. It is packed with useful tips for thinking about relationships after retirement. I'm 62, and discovered I could really use this. After reading it I bought several other copies to give to friends. It is very readable, and has quiz-yourself checklists at the end of every chapter that I found revealed a lot about my desires and needs that I didn't realize before. This is going to save me a lot of grief!

Highly recommended!

Sustaining a loving relationship after retirement
Dr. Sara Yogev's book targets a population that is growing and that has been largely ignored; that of the retired couple who is still vital and unacoustomed to spending quantity time with their partner. It's a book full of information, anecdotes and refreshingly new thoughts on how to continue to have a supportive and loving relationship in this stage of life. Dr. Yogev offers insight that is both provocative and relevant to a generation that is choosing early retirement Highly recommended. Suzanne Barash, M.A., LCPC and Life Coach

Forms of Verse: British and American

Precise and Replete with Invaluable Information
Forms of Verse should be considered the elementary test of all poetry resources, since it deals with every imaginable form of verse recognized within the tradition. This book spands the gap of history, providing a wealth of examples for the student of poetry to the professor and practioner. Harriss and DeFord invest a considerable effort into opening the world of poetic discourse to a general audience, and they should be congratulated for the depth of their erudition. This is an invaluable asset for anyone interested in a chronology of verse development. And doubtless, it should remain a standard of excellence for years to come.

Great For the Student of Poetry !!!
Nevermind that this book was published in 1972...This book ranks on the top of my "what is poetry" genre of books, followed closely by Western Wind. This book contains everything you need to know about poetry. I highly recommend it!

Frankenstein: The Legacy
Published in Digital by Pocket Books ()
Authors: Christopher Schildt and Sara Karloff

A New Vies of Shelley
At last someone had the guts to write a contemporary Dracula without the silly bite in the neck, stake in the heart theme. Congratulations, Schildt! We hope to see many more just like this. I liked "Frankenstein: The Legacy," but this one is even better.

A New Age Of Gods & Monsters
The DALLAS MORNING NEWS calls Frankenstein: The Legacy "a fun and easy read - Schildt has given the 'monster' a humanity and awareness." CINESCAPE MAGAZINE reports the following: "Frankenstein: The Legacy is a strong literary follow-up to the original. The writing is breezy and fast paced, making the book a short, but exciting read. Schildt uses many settings and devices that call H.P. Lovecraft's writing to mind: dangerous medical experiments, creepy New England houses, dream-like staes, fortune telling, etc. But Schildt makes these elements available without needing to emulate Lovecraft's thick, complex prose. This novel was also featured in USA TODAY. THE NEW LONDON DAY NEWSPAPER reports that "Christopher Schildt writes with the literary elegance one associates with Mary Shelley or Bram Stoker - his plots are clever and unusual within the frame work of modern horror." In all, this is a truly wonderful novel.

Collapsing the Cathedral of Bigotry, Southern-Style
I'm standing in the Great Hall of one of Birmingham, Alabama's largest cathedrals, chatting amicably with two nicely-dressed white women who are pillars and patrons of their church. Wonder how it is possible that these two genteel ladies turned out to be so very, very different form their contemporary, Sara Mitchell Parsons.
These three women are Privileged White Class people, educated in the ways of the Old South, conversant with all-white country clubs, free from racial persecution of any kind.
What made Parsons reverse direction, give up social standing and become an Atlanta civil rights activist in a day and time when to do so was actually a life-endangering act?
Why did the other two women remain placid and content in their social roles and blatantly disdainful of all civil rights activities of black people, even to this day? "They (Those Black People) just aren't grateful. They don't appreciate the fact that we (White Folk) gave them good livings and brought them up from the savages they were."
This book is a plain-spoken narrative about a white person's journey through the confines of bigotry, racism, intolerance, hatred and concrete-solid Tradition. Parsons comes out on the other side feeling a lot better about herself and a lot less tolerant herself--intolerant toward the status quo of Southern White Bigotry.
Take a look at this modest book. It came out at a time when the McWhorter book about Birmingham got lots of well-deserved attention, occluding the release of smaller books like this. But this, too, deserves your notice. It tells a similar story, but without all the spice, lenghthy detail and scholarly overstatement. Both books should be issued together in a slipcase.

THE MAKING OF AN ACTIVIST
Sara Perry was raised as the typical southern white lady. She was to assume the role of dutiful wife, devoted mother and hostess for her husband's social set. As Sara Mitchell she carried out her role of the southern house-wife which included a lovely home, Negro maid and status in the upper class community of Buckhead in Atlanta, GA.

All was going well for this southern white matron but the seeds of discontent stirred in her life. She wanted more out of life than a role. Slowly but surely a change was to occur which would change her life and the fabric of the world in which she grew up.

Contained in these pages in the memoir of a woman who had it all but made the step to get involved in the battle for civil rights regardless of the cost. Her battle ground was the Atlanta school board, her church, family and marriage. Caught up in the fervor of the Civil rights movement we see how a woman of privilege made the steps of becoming an activist.

Parsons' story is an eye-opener of the role southern white women played in the movement. Her being a part of the affluent class makes her story all the more remarkable due to the pressures she would endure. Her tale is one in which everyone should read to get an understanding of the thoughts and feelings of a woman who put her status at risk.

What I find most interesting concerning her tenure on the Atlanta school board are the issues she addresses concerning education in addition to the integration question. The issues she addressed in the 1960s are the same ones with us in the year 2000. You will get an idea about how "concerned" the majority of the board was with education.

This dynamic woman broke the rules of convention of her day. She of course is not a saint but an example to follow in having the courage and fortitude to step out for what is right. I highly recommend this as a primary text for those studying education, civil rights, and female empowerment.
