A useful High School Geometry book for Computer Graphics
This is essentially a high school geometry book; but with a difference - its fully linear algebra based approach. If you are a beginner in computer graphics, and want to review elements of geometry and linear algebra, you will benefit from studying through this book.

The almost four hundred pages book is remarkably readable and is very consistent at that. There are both worked out examples and exercise problems, for each section - which are very useful for self-study or revision.

If you have never had an introduction to linear algebra before, you may have to supplement this with a linear algebra book. But if you have not had a good course in elementary geometry, and your motivation is getting started with elementary Computer Graphics/CAD and the likes, this is a good book for that.

Interspersed with the subject matter discussed at a elementary level, in a useful, stimulating style are small, interesting discussions on such useful and relatively advanced topics as function spaces, fixed point theorem in affine transformation, simplices, symmetries etc. I rarely have seen any of these topics mentioned in a book aimed at this level.

Highly recommended for freshman undergraduates and those without any mathematics experience who want to start in Graphics, CAD, CAGD and the likes. Recommended also for experienced practitioners in Graphics: it is good to review the fundamentals once in a while, and a well written book that is a quick read helps at that!

Perfect for first and second year, or physicists
The basics of the very deep connection between geometry and vector spaces. If you do undergrad math you will see everything in this book during first and second year. But what this book does is fit those bits together. He does this very nicely at an introductory level. If you are not in math, but need to learn some geometryfor a physics course, this will be a useful book.

It is a formal math book, with axioms, but it is strong on motivation and has some quite amusing examples.

Keywords: tangent spaces, determinants, barycentric, linear transformations.

The best math book I have read
I have been reading many books on vector analysis, geometry, and linear algebra this year. Many of them have been good, but this book stands alone for deriving the basics of determinants, vector products, geometry, etc. in a clear and intuitive manner along with great examples. A wonderful, wonderful book.

Wow!
Great book with plenty of practical comments and ideas which allow you to design a truly active session that both, your audience and you, will enjoy.

The best book in training i have read since i am training
I have pleasant meetings with you book Active Training at the last weeks. I am very impressed from it. The book is the best book that has been written about active teaching and learning. The book taught me new active ways as well. The book could help you diagnosis your faults at training and remind you what you forget to do. The book is very friendly. Active Training make it clear that you can be the best trainer if you just work for it. "Active leaning" might hurts but it helps you to grow. I am very grateful about the adventures. The book function like a mirror that tell you where your lipstick is not polished , so you can correct it. The book gave me new insights even I am teaching for 10 years already . The book is like a mentor If you like you can give your hands and travel at a virtual exelent training class.

Many good ideas on how to make your training more active
This book has many good ideas on how to make your training more active. For example, it give one ideas on how to turn a mundane one-way lecture into a lively interactive discussion so that the participants not only enjoy the learning, but retain and use the knowledge gained. In addition, there are many activities that a trainer can use to make his or her training more lively. I strongly recommend this book to all trainers.

AMAZING
Melvin Burgess's first novel,The Cry of the Wolf is without a doubt my most favorite book I have ever read! It is a compelling story about the greediness of a deranged man, also known as the hunter. But if I left you with that you would not have truely understood this novel. The Cry of the Wolf is also about the strugle that last wolf in England is put throught to survive. Even if you do not like wolfs this book is still one that should be on every young readers shelf. Although there is some vilonce and crude nature, so I reccomend that children should be ten at the youngest when they read this book. ...

Powerful
WoW! This has been one of my favorite books since I got it a few years ago. I've read it at least 10 times and lent it to most of my friends. It's billed as a children's book, but it's fairly violent, sometimes chillingly so. I would wait to give it to kids until they're 12 or so. Evil is personified as the Hunter, who is never given a name, only his Occupation to identify him. Grey Cub, on the other hand, is a wolf who seems at times almost human. Between the Hunter and his prey stands Ben Tilley, who loves the wolves, and doesn't realize that he's opening the door to their extinction when he tells a stranger that they exist.........

:)
The Cry of the Wolf is my all time favourite book, I loved it! I thought it was really awesome, and have read it at least eight times! I totally recommend it, especially if you like wolves! It's really sad in some parts, but I think the ending was good. :)

The Tech Bowl Reference
If you want to compete - and win! - at the ATPO Tech Bowl at AAO (and local ophthalmology society Tech Bowl-style quiz competitions) this is among the best references to study, along with Stein/Slat/Stein.

A must for all eye-care professionals
This dictionary is perfect for the person who either can't spell perfectly 100% of the time, or wants to increase his/her eye terminology with more professional vocabulary. A must for all eye-care professionals!

Excellent book for Medical Transcriptionist
I am a Medical Transcriptionist who obtained an opthalmologist as one of the clients we transcribe for. I had no training in opthalmology, but with the use of this book I was able to transcribe each report as if I were doing it for years. This a great book. I hope they come out with more dictionaries that are geared towards other types of specialities (i.e. orthopedics, radiology, ob/gyn, etc...

Money well spent!
This book is a really nice book to help us all get most of the "misterious" ergogenics. How many times did we enter in a SNC/GNC store and got confused with so many options? What does creatin or anything else exactly does? Stop having false and biased advises. This book is a reliable database with good bibliographic references. First starting point before heading to any supplement store is to get your hands on this book. Guaranteed to help you spend your $$$ better there!

Only "drawback" (may I use this word?) is that many of the supplements are so "new" in terms of scientific research that even this book being recent there may be drastic changes in the knowledge of the product. Make sure you do your own researches (the internet is a good point to start) on the "newer" stuff where this book may become incomplete or vague.

the best book of its kind
Mel Williams is regarded as one of the leading sports physiologists in the US, and this book shows why. I've read many guides to using sports supplements and this is the only one I've come across that's balanced and well-researched. By far the best book of its kind on the market.

The Ergogenic Edge
The increasing number of performance enhancing supplements on the shelves in the drug stores is increasing rapidly. Many people are buying those products without knowing their effectiveness or safety. This book can serve as excellent source to help athletes and coaches of all levels to get the necessary information that will help them make informed decisions regarding the use of sports ergogenics as a means to enhance performance in sport. This book discusses the effectiveness, safety concerns, legal status, and ethical issues of a specific sport ergogenic that should be considered by all the athletes prior to its use. Athletes can find excelent recommendations about what spplements to take or not to take depending of the sport they are participating. The Ergogenic Edge is organized in a way that it makes it very user friendly which makes for easy reading.

Helping Kids Meet Academic Challenges
_Keeping A Head in School_ is designed to help students with a wide range of learning disorders "gain a realistic insight into their personal strengths and weaknesses."

The book is targeted at adolescents and pre-adolescents. It can also be used effectively by younger and older students, however. Dr. Levine makes information accessible to young people by presenting it in small chunks with frequent headings. His style is conversational, and he uses familiar metaphors to explain physiological concepts. Attention, for example, is described in terms of channel selection and filtration.

Levine heartens his readers -- not only by demonstrating a clear understanding of their difficulties but also by providing hope for the success that everyone needs. While he recognizes that people succeed in different areas -- academics, athletics, and art, to name just a few -- he acknowledges that during the school-age years, lack of success in the academic area can have far-reaching
consequences.

After explaining how the brain functions normally to help a person focus attention, use language, and employ memory, Levine discusses various problems that might arise in these areas. He then relates performance in reading, spelling, writing, and math to those disorders. Levine even addresses social skills, recognizing that school has a very strong social component.

Levine celebrates the many strengths that people with learning disorders might have. He encourages them to appreciate and bolster their strengths even as they are attempting to understand and bypass their weaknesses. He empowers students to advocate on their own behalf, and he reassures them that they are likely to be more successful in life after school -- when they are free to work in their preferred area rather than in one assigned to them by someone else.

_Keeping A Head in School_ is most effective if readers with learning disorders have the opportunity to discuss concepts presented with parents, teachers, and/or other adults.

The book can also provide valuable insight for those who interact with people who have learning disorders: siblings, friends, parents, teachers, and others. Understanding the problems will help people to be more compassionate and encouraging.

Finally, a book for students!
As the parent of two learning disabled students, I wholeheartedly recommend this book to all the kids out there who are in need of a wonderful guide not only for school, but every day problem solving. My son refers to this book often, for reinforcement, for reassurance, and for guidance. There are many books written about learning disabilities, but this one stands out as a wonderful guide for your child to use.

Students can learn to manage their own learning disorders
We all have learning disorders, as Mel Levine's Keeping A Head in School points out. The difference in Dr. Levine's approach is that students can learn to identify and remediate their own problems, giving them greater power over their own lives.

In this book Dr. Levine models the strategies he advocates that students learn: Lots of diagrams, webs, illustrations, as well as case studies, fill the pages, helping all readers to better grasp his techniques.

Written with humor and "reader-friendly" language, the handbook explains the complexity of learning disorders in terms all readers can understand. Parents, teachers, counselors, as well as students, will better understand learning and how to maximize their potential after reading this book. The reader will recognize his/her own learning disorders and how to overcome them--whether or not diagnosed as a problem learner. A must read for anyone dealing with this condition.

How to Get Rich in Mail Order by Melvin Powers
Melvin Powers is one of the old pros. I dare say that everyone in the business that you see on the TV Infomercials, got their original info from Mel Powers. The gent was long in the business, out of a squat little office in the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles, CA in the late 1970s when I began in the marketing and sales business. Over the years, I have purchased probably 20 of copies of this book. I keep loaning them out, and they never come home ! The book has the actual copies of very successful newsprint ads and therefore you can use these actual copies of successful ads to write your own. Everyone speaks about the internet for selling, but hands down, nothing beats newsprint ads if the product is appealing to the public.

I would give it 9 stars if I could! Melvin is wonderful!
Melvin Powers is a legend! All of his books are great, especially this one! It has "real" techniques that work!

Absolutely, the BEST book on this topic!
I've read them all. Mel Powers has put forth the most complete and thorough collection of "doable" classified tips! I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who really wants to make big money! To see how these techniques can help YOU make it big, please visit 2StartSmart.com

Historical Fiction At it's Best!
I just finished reading Rising Tide by Melvin E. Weaver and did not hesitate to give this book a "FIVE STAR RATING." From the very beginning, the characters came to life in such a way that it was impossible to put the book down. Rising Tide has it all...political intrigue, romance, mystery. A "must read" book for ages thirteen and up!

action, romance, mystery...it's got it all!
Being from a small south Fla town myself, I really got into this book! It reminded me of all the family owned dairy farms & farm land that South Fla used to boast. Rod Serling is a great action packed character w/a great sense of humor! If you like WWII stuff, you'll love this book!

Action-packed Thriller
The story jumps right into suspense and mystery, with cliff-hangers to keep you reading non-stop. As the hero, Rod, travels from Florida to Cuba, he becomes enchanged with Conchita. Then there's smuggling covered by "innocent" dairy-farming, a topic in which the author shows in-depth knowledge. The mysterious disappearance of Rod's brother is resolved with a surprise. And then there's all that sex, sex, sex.

Reading Waste Places did not waste my time!!
Waste Places is a very interesting book. It was written in such a way to hold my interest, going from action, to historical events, to romance and intrigue, etc. I found myself looking forward to each chapter to see which way the storyline was going. I highly recommend it.

A Great Historical Story with Great Characters
Being a Floridian, I love to read historical stories about our state and what happens around it. If you like war stories with intrigue, adventure and lots of action with characters who care about our country and family, then this is the book for you! A real page turner where you keep telling yourself, just one more chapter before before you turn off the light.

Not a Waste
The second of the Mel Weaver books, Waste Places is certainly no waste of time. It is a very exciting book with good character development in a rarely written about historical setting.
Mr. Weaver has captured time and place in a manner which is reminiscent of Hemmingway. His characters live with an intensity that fires the imagination and keeps the reader glued to the seat for "just one more chapter" before going to bed.
Bringing a lot of personal experience to bear, Mr. Weaver remains true to character as the action unfolds. And quite a lot of action there is...enough to satisfy the most jaded.
I recommend this book highly.

African Violets: Gifts from Nature
Published in Hardcover by Cornwall Books (1988)
Author: Melvin J. Robey
Amazon base price: $45.00
Average review score:

A thorough source of information.
This is a very thorough book and it will answer probably any question you'll ever have about African violets. It covers anything from potting mixture composition to lighting, watering, pests (covered to the extent to give you nightmares), the various methods of propagation, hybridizing, and genetics. Because it gets into the science of growing African violets, it is probably not for the person who has a passing interest in them. However, I am one of those who love African violets and am relieved to have a source to go to get all of my questions answered.

It's a big book, and reminds me of a textbook in size and weight. It has 314 pages and 29 color photos.

Comprehensive information
Robey's book provides an excellent overview of both the history and present culture of African violets, including such areas as hybridizing. For as popular as African violets are, there are few books that focus on them, and Robey's is one of the best. I would recommend it for the library of any serious AV grower.
