GREAT LIDDLE BOOK WITH FUN FACTS!!
This book contains some really wild facts about weather & weird & odd natural causes. Its a great book aside from the exclamation points at the end of sentences stating that thousands of people died.

This book is split into sections of:
-Weird Weather
-Castastrophies Big & Little
-The Violent Earth

Along with paragraphs explaining each odd event, (almost) every page has a "Laugh Line" or "Didja Know." I encourage you to get this book, filled with fun facts.

Great for children--and adults, too!
I became fascinated with this book when my friend and I had an ongoing bet about whether or not it could really rain frogs, like it did in the popular movie "Magnolia". This book helped me win the bet, and also helped me brush up on really interesting weather facts. Great knowledge for a great price!

Good Book!
This is a great book about natural disasters. The facts in it are weird and captivate my imagination. All books I have read in this series are intriguing. Once I start reading them I can't put them down.

I didn't put this book down
When I bought this book I didn't expect it to be as good as it was. It was a quick and easy read but it was very enjoyable. The whole way through the book you are waitng to find out what the three kids are going to do next. I found the end a bit strange and you think "Why did that happen?" and in some parts you end up hating the characters, but it was extremely good on the whole.

Depressing, but good
I've owned this book for over 6 years before I read it. I'm 20 now, and found the book in my old bedroom. I decided to read it cause I had nothing else, and finished it in the same night. It was amazingly depressing and tragic. I hated most the characters through-out the book. For being uncaring, decefitful, or too caring and stupid. But it was an engaging book. Even for my age. I almost think it might be too violent and depressing for young adults though. But, if you can handle that sort of thing, I'd recommend it. It's a fast and easy read too.

Comprehensive but perhaps too broad
There is a lot of depth to this book, then there is a section on retaining your subconscious to lose weight and quit smoking. This book seems stuck between the secrets of the universe and self help. New Agers will be happy to find the chapters on the human Aura, Psychic Energy and Healing. Those seeking enlightement are going to like the chapters on Detachment, Meditation and Finding the True Self. There is a terrific exercise on detachment (IMO). This book also has a pretty comprehensive description of "Conscious Creation". There are some good exercises in this book but for the most part I didn't read anything in here revolutionary or that I haven't read somewhere before. The book does agree with texts I've read prior and perhaps its value is bringing many topics together in one place.

must read
After I saw the movie scanners I have be looking to see if there was any real truth to psychic power or mind power to influence any thing besides ones self. I bought many books after I bought this one it said it had no interest in creating telepaths I almost put down. But I read it and slowly practiced the exercises. I can only say if you have the desire to live in this world at a level completely above mentally 87% of others read and practice this book.

What's the Secret of getting Rich?
How to Get Rich When You Ain't Got Nothing is a how-to manage your finances guide for African Americans. This guide is to show them how to get out of debt, invest, and literally save them selves into the "rich" house.

African Americans are labeled consumers rather than investors or the like. Mr. Miller first asks his readers to decide what "rich" is to them. Once that is decided he then begins the discussion of spending habits and shows how historically African Americans have been victims of discriminatory practices and wasteful spending. Swiftly he moves the reader into a basic plan for finances, dealing with income issues, finding a job, entrepreneurial advice, the hidden enemy and many more ideas toward financial wealth. This book also includes a sixty-four-page appendix with everything from addresses for State Directors of Adult Education to Regional Securities and Exchange Commission Offices.

Melvin B. Miller has written a book designed to change your thinking about money. It is all laid out simply and has little personal antidotes in order to point out practicality and make it relatable. I believe that this book is an ideal start for someone who wants to gain control of their financial future without being overwhelmed with technical jargon and intimidating information.

helpful
This is a helpful book, that could be better organized, but has info I didn't find in other self-publishing books. And Powers' enthusiasm is contagious (Maybe a little too contagious. It's harder than he makes it look). The publishing date here is 1984, but the copy I bought a couple years ago has a new section up-dated in 1993...a very important new section.

An excellent book - Read it !
This book is great as it tells you everything you need to know e.g. How to research, market, price, promote & title your book. Promotion seems very detailed, logical & simple

His writing details & his lovely personality makes you feel so enthusiastic & full of confidence to self publish. It seems so easy & I'm sure it is.

The only two issues I have is re: mail order marketing.( of which he discusses extensively ) In Australia we don't use mail order ads for books in magazines & newspapers. It's no longer done here.

The other issue is that I'm concerned as to how up-to-date some of the info is. As it is reprinted in 1992. I wonder whether he would espouse mail order marketing as heavily now.

But that aside. It's a book I would recommend to everyone considering self publishing ! ( as it presented me with many answers that I could not find elsewhere )

Clear exposition - a good text
This book can be used in the international trade component of a two-semester ug course in international trade and finance (as the editorial review points).

The book uses - at least for me - an extremely useful approach to studying the rudiments of trade theory: after reviewing the standard concepts from consumer and producer theory, it provides a set of sufficient conditions that jointly determine the no-trade world. The core of the text then relaxes each of the mentioned conditions while keeping the others valid, showing why trade arises and at the same time providing a very clear overall picture. All models are discussed in a non-technical way but still with a fair amount of rigour, clearly stating the assumptions and proving the propositions.

The idea of using the revealed preference to show the existence of gains from trade in various settings is defenitely sth worth examining.

The trade policy part offers a chapter on strategic trade policy to shake the validity of the standard "trade barriers are harmful" belief from a perpective that is usually not presented by competitive texts.

Still, two elements could be improved: the part on the link between trade and economic growth is not very readable. Maybe the authors could do sth more about it by using algebra. Secondly, although the concept of intra-industry trade is discussed on many occasions, the authors could consider devoting an additional chapter to it just to summarise the already mentioned ideas.

To conclude: I consider the book as being better than, say, Krugman's or Salvatore's probably more popular texts.

great text!
We used this as a textbook for a one semester course in international trade relations. The writing is clear and the book is well-organized, making it very readable. It has very few errors, perhaps that's why a new edition hasn't come out lately. Most of the analyses of the models are done graphically and using only algebra, so it is suited for beginners of international trade theory/international economics. The questions at the end of each chapter vary from very easy to difficult, but the difficult ones can be answered after reading the text about two or three times and digesting its contents. This book is aimed primarily for undergraduates but first year graduate students can use this book as a review for more advanced texts in international trade such as "Lectures in International Trade",(1998) by Bhagwati et al. This textbook is highly-recommended and could be a better alternative than Krugman and Obstfeld's popular text ("International Economics: Theory and Policy").

Lady : a brilliant read
When I first picked up the book it was because my school librarian said I should read it. I thought it would be a typical teenage book, but after the first few pages I just couldn't put it down. This is a great book, with an unpredictable ending (at least I couldn't predict it and I'm quite good at predicting endings). I can guarantee that you won't be disappointed with this book.

A great book!
This was a great book! I really enjoyed reading it and I could hardly put it down. I totally recommend it! It had a very unpredictable ending and a gripping story line.

Martha Mitchell, story of a lifetime quilter
Interesting story, her first quilt at age 9 while living in Kentucky, in her lifetime she made over a 100 quilts, over 40 color pictures, and many black and white, also details the so called woman,s place such as her husband did not want her to wear bright colors, etc. in Kentucky all the civil service jobs at that time went to men, when she moved to Texas , she was able to go to work right away. The pictures, tell the story more as well as the text. The quilts are mostly traditional patterns, she had a very creative touch.

Run - do not walk - to Possum Walk Road
For anyone interested in quilt history or the history of quilters, this is a terrific book. Its focus is on an (in)famous Texas quilter named Martha Mitchell, who lived in Huntsville Texas, after 'emigrating' from Kentucky in 1939. The book is interspered with 'Martha-isms' that are both charming, witty, oldfashioned, yet surprisingly 'modern.' The book skips easily over time and place, sometimes discussing her background and childhood, and other times, her marriage, career and rebelliousness towards some of the expected womanly behaviors of the time. She was a naturally feisty woman, who only became moreso in her old age. The best part of the book, though, is the photography. In addition to photos of Martha at various stages in her life, it also includes over 30 full color photos of her quilts. Many are close enough to see her quilting stitches, and some include her beautiful hands as she worked on her quilts. This is a most charming book about a singularly charming woman. I heartily recommend it. As an aside, PBS did a documentary on Martha in 1985, which is still available on videotape.

An upper elementary must have book!
I'm a teacher and ordered this book for my reference library last year. Any parent of a fourth or fifth grader should look into investing in this book - it carefully explains the most confusing scientific concepts thoroughly and uses pictures to help. Although it is designed for older students, my second graders consistently pick the science dictionary to read during free time. This book really attracts the kids attention! But, be warned, especially with younger students, you're going to be blessed by the sound of a lot of how and why questions!

Good place to start
We were looking for a book to introduce our 8 year old to science concepts. This book covers a wide range of subjects and helps kids understand more about the world when they complete school units in other subjects such as reading and social studies. Definitely a good choice for elementary age kids.

Can't go wrong with this
I saw this at a friend's house, and as soon as I got home ordered a copy for my young nephews. It's a great science primer for kids. Worth getting for Hannah Bonner's wonderful illustrations. Recommended as well to adults who want to brush up on basic science.

yes, but....
You know, I really wanted to like this book.... but, and perhaps this is beyond the pale given the novel's publishing history, it seemed to need an editor more than anything else, not for any of its themes, or subject matter, but for the prose itself: it's true that the language is often very evocative (and those moments are very good indeed--for example, when he describes the loneliness inherent in prison life), but more often it is clunky... not at all bad, but somewhat disappointing given the relative hype....

A vivid narrative on human relations and self-discovery
A book that goes beyond the usual cliches. It is not about racism, not about homosexuality, not about violence and only incidently about prison life. It is about what makes us human even in the most dehumanizing environment; it is about human relationships in a huis clos; it is about yearning for love, for a better life, for being a better person, but somehow always falling short. (don't we all?). And it is of course about self discovery and the ever eluding meaning of manhood. It is hard to believe thjat such a powerful book could be ignored for so long. However, this book continues to fly in the face of today's and yesterday's conventions: A black person writing about a white person; could this possibly mean that our humanity is not only defined by the color of our skin?

Excellent
Far more than a prison story, Yesterday Will Make You Cry is a story of self awakening, discovery of manhood and what it takes to keep it and solidify it. Simply remarkable.
