The man knows our business
The finest, most complete book on our business. It has helped me more than any resource I've ever used. Who says a textbook has to be dull? You'll never get bored reading this "how to" book delightfully supplemented with sports stories, cartoons, statistics and one-liners---all from a man who knows our business inside and out

Wow -- I had heard about it! It's better than I expected.
This book is not only good for the neophyte or experienced publicist in sports, but for people in any industry where promotion counts. I have heard through the grapevine that a new edition is coming out very soon, and I'll be the first in line -- or should I say online! A winner.

Sports marketing the way it really is
I encourage students interested in sports to read the entire book so that they will realize that sports marketing is more than having a good seat at college or professional sports events

Amazon description gives away TOO MUCH!
I have a feeling I would've enjoyed this book far more if I hadn't already known about who was going to die and who was going to shag who. It spoiled a lot of the surprise and suspense, which really blew.

Other than that, the book was pretty well done, but it didn't have the gluing and amazing effect that Smack had. Maybe it was because Smack didn't have an omnipotent narrator point of view? The nonpersonal chapters seemed to cover a lot more story than the characterized ones did. It also would have been cool to see things through Conor's eyes near the end.

If you're into the myth/fantasy/kinda horror thing, you might want to check it out at the library, but I wouldn't buy it for myself. Oh yeah -- don't let anybody else read the amazon description of this book anymore!

AMAZING
I do not want to ruin the story for all the people who had not read this book yet, so I'll be really brief.

This book is AWESOME.

Go and buy this masterpiece right now.

Amazing from the first word to the very last
I have read this book time and time again, and still never grow tired of it. The characters in this novel become real and it's so easy to become attached to them, which makes the ending kind of hard to deal with, in some respects. Everything about this book is honest and straight forward. Somethings were meant to chage, while others weren't, and sometimes life takes the course you least expect, for better or for worse. Melvin Burgess is genius and I hope to read more of his books. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a an incredible and gripping read.

Great resource!
Having read other books by Dr. Silberman, I was excited to see the latest book PeopleSmart. PeopleSmart provides useful ways to develop interpersonal skills that are essential in the workplace. I gained insight into my own style and the ways I can begin to enhance my interactions with others both in my personal life and professionally. The arrangement of the material made it easy to absorb and immediately apply to my life. The book is a valuable resource given that interpersonal skills are so essential.

Peoplesmart: Developing Your Interpersonal Intelligence
This is an amazing book. Everything you ever wanted to know about how to communicate and collaborate more effectively. "Peoplesmart" contains more comprehensive information than any book I've seen on the subject, and presents it in clear language with practical exercises and tips. In addition, "Peoplesmart" does an excellent job of acknowledging that communication is hard. We all have our issues. This book does not assume that we are all the same, or that we will change just by reading a text. How nice it is to feel so respected as a reader and human being.

Something for Absolutely Everyone
I am a teacher on Communication Skills, and Peoplesmart is the best resource out there. It is well-organized and easy to use. It is not a passive book, but gets the reader actively involved in learning and practicing effective people skills. It's a fabulous resource for the workplace, but also has applications for home and personal relationships. I have never met anyone who couldn't use tips for resolving conflicts, expressing oneself, and influencing others. This book is great on its own, or can be combined with the workshops offered to really bring home these tremendous people skills, communications, and interaction effectivenenss. Everyone should have this resource, not on their shelf, but in their hands!

fascinating
I do not usually read books of this sort (I like fiction, philosophy, cosmology), but the reviews of this book caught my eye. It is written extremely well. Unconventional ideas presented very intelligently and backed up with compelling scientific and anecdotal evidence. Highly recommended to those with an open mind.

Thought Provoking
Dr. Melvin Morse gives us one of the best books that I have ever read. Thought provoking and detailed. How do humans connect to God? Is it through the brain? What of near death experiences and how are they similar? Is there proof of past lives? Do they connect? What is our link to the universe, or our position? Many topics are explored in this book in detail.

This book has to rate as one of the best on the subject of Paranormal Science. A must read for anyone who has an interest in the subject, or to someone who may be curious as to what this subject is all about. But this book, open your mind.

Strongly Recommend!
I found "Where God Lives" to be one of the best examinations of the NDE. Dr. Morse's section on children was compelling, but even more interesting was the section on past life remembrances. As Dr. Morse is a professional and researcher, the book is filled with case studies, scientific analysis and much insight. Although the premise of memory being stored in a place besides the brain may sound a little wacky and "occultish", the book is clearly not that at all. Definitely check this one out for an entertaining read.

Great intro on feeding your child
The best thing about this book is the advice to avoid making feeding times a battleground, and using non-nutritious food as a reward to eat nutritious food. It is excellent in providing sample menus and charts at different stages. I reccommend it to many new parents.

A couple of caveats: I do wish it had more recipies. I mostly use my adult cookbooks instead, but I would love more healthy "brown bag" lunch ideas. I also think the reader must keep in mind that the approach of "keep putting it on their plate" does not always work, sometimes a child (just like an adult) simply won't like the taste of a food. Finally, the authors don't encourage giving whole grain foods (bread, pasta, crackers) to toddlers because they have a low fiber requirement. However, the authors do advise getting the child to like healthy food early on. To me this is contridictory as I would never feed my dd more white bread if I can give her less whole wheat.

All in all I think this was money well spent.

This book is the new MUST HAVE gift for all baby showers!
FEEDING YOUR CHILD FOR LIFELONG HEALTH strikes me as a book that will become as indispen- sible an addition to a new mother's library as the currently invaluable WHAT TO EXPECT... series (...THE FIRST YEARS;...THE TODDLER YEARS). It was exciting to discover a book devoted entirely to the very complicated and perplexing business of feeding a child. I'm the mother of an almost-two year old, and upon opening this book I found myself quickly absorbed. I had never heard of "metabolic programming"--the concept that what and how you feed your child permanantly affect his/her metabolism, eating habits and tastes, and even IQ levels, later in life. Anxious to get on the right track, I was able to easily fast forward to the chapter dealing with my "terrific terrible two". Included were strategies to help with common feeding issues and difficulties in this age group, as well as recipes and sample menus. Especially helpful is the appendix of good food sources. I count this book an essential tool in helping to realize my dream of giving my daughter the best start possible for a lifetime of physical health and mental well being.

What You Don't Know About Feeding Children
With a toddler and an infant always on the go, who has time to read another parenting book? But this one hooked me right away with the realization that the "healthy" low-fat, high-fiber food I'd been feeding my family was not necessarily the best thing for my children at their different stages of growth. "Feeding Your Child.." helped me better understand food from a child's point of view - mentally and physically. Lots of popular misconceptions like mine are unveiled, with loads of easy-to-use everyday feeding advice. An excellent book for any parent or caregiver who wants to help children enjoy healthy food, in a developmentally appropriate manner. (And for those of us in need of the occasional quick fix, the comprehensive index and table of contents make it very easy to locate specific topics.)

Myth of Laziness

Author: Melvin D. Levine

Addresses the very Real problem of laziness....
Mel Levine's first book 'A Mind at a Time' succeeded in taking a common sense approach to the important subject of learning types. This book does the same thing, but focuses on one specific functional challenge - that of a lack of productivity.

1. Levine continues to assert that different learning styles require different teaching strategies. As a result, he does not believe that any child is inherently lazy. While this is likely true for young children, it does not seem to be necessarily the case for adolescents or adults. (Levine would disagree) That is, laziness can be learned and even chosen later in life. In fact, I often find myself choosing the way of the sloth - to my own frustration and embarrassment.

2. Levine identifies a number of causes of low performance. Some of these are internal like organizational problems, poor ability to verbally express, or poor writing skills. However, these types of things don't seem to be 'causes' as much as they do 'results' or 'symptoms'. He does go on to briefly discuss external factors like socioeconomic background, family life, and negative role models. Now these seem to be more root-causes - however, he doesn't spend much time on these, which I found to be disappointing.

3. The thing that I do like about Levine is that he develops suggestions for what parents can do to encourage productive output in children. Additionally, he provides objective means for identifying if the problem is internal or environmental. I happen to believe the vast majority of people fall into the latter category - at least as the initial influence. However, it seems laziness becomes a choice as well. So, there's a bit of controversy here - which makes the book interesting and relevant.

4. Lastly, Levine doesn't leave the reader in an ethereal and contemplative world, but brings problem solving down to a real-life level by providing worksheets, which assist children in planning stories and reports - to get their minds working.

5. It seems it's so necessary to start fostering creativity, activity, and expression at a young age. Additionally, abundant parental praise related to accomplishments is also very needed. In short, this is a good book, however it would have been helpful if Levine had focused more in the area of relationships.

Myth of Laziness
I was so grateful to discover this book. I am a homeschooling mom of 4 and since I work closely with my kids on a daily basis I was able to recongnize some real frustrations in my 10 year old son. It had been suggested that I have him tested for ADD but this just didn't seem right to me. When I read Dr. Levine's profile of the child in Ch. 2, it was as if I were reading about my own child, with a few exceptions. I am confident I have found the source of his frustrations. I am recommending this book to every pediatrician, physician and school teacher I know. I am grateful that my son will have the chance to put this information to use for his benefit from such a young age. It makes me grieve for the countless number of intelligent school children and adults that have been accused of being "lazy" or not "living up to their full potential." Shame on us for not taking the time to understand them.

A "must read" for any parent of a child struggling in school
Hello. I recently purchased several of Dr. Levine's books after my 5 year old was diagnosed with fine motor and graphomotor dysfunction. This book has enlightened me as to my son's condition and has made me better capable of helping my son. I am also prepared to speak with his teachers from the very start of school about his condition and now I will be certain not to allow the school system to fail my son for a condition over which he has no control. All I can say is "Thank you Dr. Levine. My boy's ok." I also thank Amazon for publishing reader's reviews which prompted me to purchase this wonderful book.

This book was a lifesaver!
After 5 1/2 years of intensive phonics training, vision therapy, private tutoring and stress beyond belief, I picked up this book at the library. It was the answer to a prayer.

Using the info presented in this book along with "A Mind at a Time" also by Levine, we were able to finally get my son on the right track. If you have a child with a learning problem of any kind I couldn't recommend these books any more highly.

I saw a reviewer mention that the book is written to children and so they found it boring, but I think that reading this book helped me see what I had been missing all along, my child's perspective.

Great book to read with the Guidelines (sold separately)
Hello. This is the 2nd Dr. Levine book I've purchased and read. The scenarios are simple enough for me to read with my 5 year old son (diagnosed with fine motor/graphomotor dysfunction.) Some reviewers were not satisfied that this is a book geared for children. It's far better utilized if the book is used with the "Guidelines for All Kinds of Minds" which is sold separately. The guidelines present the lesson format that instructors should use when teaching with All Kinds of Minds. Even though I'm not a teacher, I am able to use the suggestions in the Guidelines to help my son through a difficult learning period. I am so much more well informed now. Thank you Dr. Levine!

All Kinds of Minds
Thank you Dr. Levine. This is a great book. I spent the winter school break reading this book to my 11 year old. We had some great discussions about it. Not only did he find himself among the pages of the book, he found many of his friends too. He learned that everyone has strengths and weaknesses in learning. He realized that he is fortunate to be getting extra help in learning and that many of his friends could use help too. It helped him to feel less "different". I think this book should be mandatory reading in the schools. It would help kids to realize our differences and teach them to be more tolerant of each others' learning styles. Thank you again Dr. Levine.

The Need to Know
I have been using this vocabulary development book in teaching students from 8th grade Honors English up through high school levels. I really like the concept and the way the exercises are developed. I was pleased to see the changes from the 2nd edition to the 3rd and now I am anxiously waiting to see the 4th edition. However, I find that some of the idiomatic phrases have fallen into such disuse as to not be of much practical help. I also question the connotations implied in the context of some of the vocabulary words being used in the vignette. I still think it is the best book available for vocabulary development and I use it continuously throughout the school year.

A great way to quickly learn some new words
I also bought this to help prepare for the GRE. It is broken so that you can learn five new words a day for 46 weeks (plus an idiom a day). I agree with a previous reviewer in that some of the definitions of the idioms, while they may be text-book, are not concurrent with today's usage. I still found myself referring to the dictionary when trying to understand a new word (hence the 4 stars--I thought some of the definitions were too brief to be fully understood). However it's a great series of exercises which can be done at whatever rate you wish (I usually do one or two "weeks" in one day). There are also weekly reviews and "book so far" reviews, if that makes any sense.

Excellent Resource
I use this book while tutoring adults who are learning English as a second language. Each day, 5 new words are presented, activities incorporating the new words can be finished in less than a half hour and a review for the words learned for the week is also available. The words used are challenging but common. During my time helping the students i also get a good vocabulary review!

You HAVE to read this book!!
Junk is one of the best books I've ever read.. well, actually it's THE best book I've ever read. I started off disliking Melvin Burgess's style of writing, but now I see it as it is, nothing but genious. The way each chapter is written from another character's point of view is amazing, and the characters are painted fantastically. I found myself laughing out loud, or standing up and screaming at the inanimate book when things went wrong! I completely fell in love with Tar, and I felt as if Gemma was sitting next to me and reading these words to me... plus I have a new found love of dandelions!! If you don't have time to read this book, get time, because it may do to you what it did to me.. it gave me an entirely different outlook on life.. I wouldn't say it put me off drugs at all, but it certainly was honest, rather than just telling me "All drugs are bad. Never do drugs." If you have any interest in anything at all, then read this book!! JUNK ROX!!

Read this great book!
We have read `Junk` in our English lessons. After having read an extract from this book I thought it was a bad book. It is only about running away, taking drugs, dying or coming back home at the last moment. But with every page I read it got better and better. Particulary I like the love story of Gemma and Tar. Although she doesn't love him the friendship between them has something interesting and special. It is sad when Gemma only thinks about herself and forgets Tar, but it is so beautiful if they are together, so that it makes you forget their problems a little bit.
Another good thing is that the book is written in a special way. Each chapter is written from another point of view. So one story is told from different points of view.

So I only can say: Read this book. You won't regret it.

An excellent book.
A slow start to what then became one of the most fantastic books I have ever read. The characters become your friends and you emphasise with their choices and actions. This is the first book I have ever read that has enabled me to see a reason why people use herion. The book takes you through the good and the bad times.

I for one after reading the book would never try heroin. I was shown how this drug could take away dignity, dreams and even lifes.

A brilliant book!!!

Join the Golden Rule Revolution
Finally, an inspirational book for ALL ages. I own and operate a family daycare home, and I have been reading each days "habit" to my school-age kids. It has stimulated some great discussions. We also spend the rest of the day practicing each "habit". I must confess, I just had to read ahead! Definitely a keeper, to read and reread.

Join the Golden Rule Revolution
A great book for jumpstarting your spirit. Gets you thinking and acting on making positive changes in your life. Filled with pearls of wisdom. Thought provoking, quick to read. A wonderful reference for living.

Joining the Revolution
I have long admired Elaine Parke's work and her approach to creating a more caring society. It's great to finally have this book.
