Beyond Trippy
My name is Arella, my mom's name is Gelly, and we LOVE Suzuki Beane. My mom's name has been Gelly Beane since she was a kid, because she loved this book so much. Recently, while I was on the 'net researching a project on the 50's and 60's for Ms. Marsh, (@ LJH) I came across a site that mentioned Bleeker Street and had some photos of it. My mom got this weird, delighted look on her face and brought out a falling-apart (of course) copy of the book. I can't find the words to describe it. READ THIS BOOK. Okay, there's my story. ^_^

Go Suzuki Go -- the babe of self-expression.
My mother bought this book for me in 1961 when it was first published. I was 10. Suzuki has been my "baby beatnik" idol ever since. The resurgence of interest in the Beat movement makes this a must-read primer for all ages! If you lived through the era -- get ready for a flash back.

A fun book for any age
I loved this book when I was a kid and although its out of print its worth the search! A delightful modern classic for the young at heart!

Don't despair, it is still in Print!
This is my favourite childhood book, and while searching for a new copy of it several years back (my copy no longer has it's cover) I discovered that it had been reprinted with another name. The new editions are under the title "Double Spell"! I know that this is the case in Canada, and that this title is listed on Amazon.ca, so I'm sure it's on .com as well. Hope I've helped someone else fine the magical novle.

Fond memories....
My cousin and I are in our early 30s and have been searching EVERYWHERE for this book. We remember reading it as young teenagers and how much we LOVED IT! I hope to get a copy thru Amazon; if so, I know I'll STILL enjoy it! EXCELLENT mystery!

I wish this book was still in print!
I had hoped to make this book this month's selection for my book club. I am really upset that it is out of print! This an excellent book. I am 11 years old and found the book really exciting.

101 Power Thoughts
Published in Paperback by Hay House (August, 1994)
Author: Louise L. Hay
Amazon base price: $5.95
Average review score:

Powerful, Great Motivator...
I purchased this on a whim in a double-pack with Dr. Wayne Dyer's tape. Well, needless to say...I listened to Ms. Hay's tape so much that it popped in my player! Her tape is AWESOME, POWERFUL, LIFE CHANING, LIFE MOVING, LIFE MOTIVATING. Sure, the tape is dated, but positivity is timeless. I didn't know the date of publication when I purchased it, but I loved the title and wanted to hear the tape. It's worth every penny. Try playing this as background music. She is soft, gentle, soothing, and actually, very nice to listen to -- over and over. It is a great way to the start the morning. While I dressed and got ready for my day, I played this tape! Wow! I started every day with this tape and THEN found myself popping it in during the day to listen even more while working at my computer. As a writer, I found them great as background noise -- better than the tv and more inspiring than music or the radio. I felt accomplished -- I was nurturing my spirit and my innerself, while completing my work!

I saw immediate results. After a day, I felt better and then after a few days, I was pumped! Like a personal trainer for the brain! After a few days, I found myself more POSITIVE and even refuting lots of the negativity around me. I surprised myself! I'm buying another tonight and immediately copying it on CD for myself to listen to forever.

That's my only complaint. These affirmation tapes are not in a better, more lasting format! Enjoy!

POWERFUL! Worth every penny!
This tape might be dated, but the affirmations are great! I listen it to every day, in the car ...while at my desk working. Very uplifting and her voice is not irritating -- nice, soft and you can listen over and over. I noticed results within a few days. I was feeling a little blue and then -- bam...listening to the tape, I was feeling great! Moreover, I started attracting positive events -- remember, what we think about and focus on, we go towards and attract. So...this tape gave me the confidence to plant my garden again. "I have a natural green thumb"...

Thanks Louise Hay!

101 Power Thoughts/Audio
Listening to this tape is a positive, uplifting way for me to start each day. The affirmations are simple and thus easy to remember; they also go right to the point of need. I listen to this tape so often that I'll have to buy another copy soon!

Alchemical Active Imagination

Author: Marie-Louise von Franz

Where are you tonight, Sweet Marie?
This was the first serious modern work on alchemy that I've read, and boy did I luck out! It is a work charged with authenticity and vision. von Franz gives you some historical background on the origins of alchemy, then introduces this 16th century alchemist, Gerhard Dorn, and his inner and outer struggle to illuminate and heal the schism between spiritual alchemy and Western Christianity. Dorn doesn't come to any happy conclusions, but the chapter on Medieval Magic is worth the entire read. It includes a serious attempt to examine the question of evil (oh thank you!)and the historical process of projecting the contents of the psyche onto some aspect of the body. Also an inspiring section on the "cloud" as symbol in alchemy and christian mysticism for the confusing and darkening part of a person's journey inward to her own core. Also, peppered throughout are juicy tidbits about things like necromancy, pyromancy, hydromancy and something Jung himself was into for a while called Geomancy--which she explains in a brief but fascinating aside. The book is developed from transcripts of a 1969 lecture she gave in Zurich at the Jung Institute. It reads like a lecture, with the rythmns and addendums of the spoken word mostly intact, but obviously translated. That's ok--it flows like pure gold and is a great window into this whole Zurich scene and the living body of work that von Franz and Jung together embodied. This little work is bound to inspire and fuel some aspect of your own imagination. Enjoy!

Correction
I haven't read this book yet but couldn't find anywhere to request that you change your information. Ms Von Franz is no longer Jung's greatest living disciple; she no longer lives in Kusnacht; she died recently, perhaps in 1998?

a wonderful disquisition on alchemy and Jung...
....from his finest student. The depth of her self-exploration-informed research shines from every page. If you can't understand why alchemy has so much to tell us about the dynamics of the unconscious and of individuation, buy this book, it's quite wonderful.

Bringing Reggio Emilia Home: An Innovative Approach to Early Childhood Education (Early Childhood Education Series)
Published in Paperback by Teachers College Pr (November, 1997)
Authors: Louise Boyd Cadwell, Lella Candini, and Lella Gandini
Amazon base price: $19.95
Average review score:

A great introduction to Reggio AND advice on implementation.
This has been the most helpful book as I introduce myself to the Reggio Emilia approach. The author shares her experience as an intern in Reggio in a very readable mix of first person observation, interview, and philosophy. But maybe more important, she then takes us the next step as she returns to the States and colloborates with a center to incorporate the Reggio philosophy. The challenges and suggestions are very realistic and helpful.

What Learning Can Be
Terrific account of a teacher's experience with the Reggio approach to creative, joyful early childhood education. Dr. Cadwell brought the approach from a village in Italy to The College School in St. Louis; the reader feels like s/he was part of the journey too. This book is a terrific must-read for teachers or parents interested in early childhood development

Fascinating and Eye Opening!
As a newcomer to the principles behind the Reggio Emilia approach, I found this well written and interesting book to be the perfect introduction. The mix of case studies along with practical educator insights provide a real understanding of how Reggio Emilia schools operate. As a parent who is "shopping" for a preschool, this book showed me what early childhood education can be like - which i hope will allow me to make a more informed choice for my child. I'd recommend this book to educators and parents alike. A must read!

Great Cookbook for families
I grew up eating many meals made from this cook book! And now I use it for my own family. There are great recipes that are not difficult, not time consuming, and use all the basics you already have in your kitchen. Healthy cooking too! I like the Chicken Spagetti-great for potluck dinners!

The Best
I bought a second Colorado Cache as I have worn out the first book. Recipes are fantastic, especially the chicken salad.

great book
This is a good basic cook book, nothing fancy. The spices used are in your rack already. Super for people like me who like to cook but do not have time or experience for fancy cooking.

Excellent Handbook
This book is an excellent resource for researching the life and works of Beethoven. The sections regarding compositions are broken down by ensemble and type, and provide important information such as performance dates, key signatures, time signatures, and movement headings. Almost all topics, including such things as Beethoven's handwriting, favorite literature, philosophies, thoughts on other composers, are covered. Very handy for reference, as well as a guide to starting Beethoven research. Well worth it at twice the price!

Unparalleled Structure
Undoubtedly thousands of books have been written about Beethoven, but what sets this one apart from the others is its well-organized and exhaustive structure. Perhaps the best way to highlight this for the prospective buyer is to list the actual sections contained in this book. 1. Calendar of Beethoven's life, works and related events 2. Beethoven's family tree 3. Who's who of Beethoven's contemporaries 4. Historical background 5. Musical background 6. Beethoven as an individual 7. Beethoven's beliefs and opinions. Following section 7 are several more sections dedicated solely to his music. As you can see, this book offers several aspects that many others neglect to include. This structure also affords one the opportunity to go directly to an area of interest without having to wade through myriad pages. Also included are eight pages of paintings, sculptures and sketches of the maestro. This book is equally at home in the bathroom, on the coffee table, or in the study. It is an invaluable source of information for anyone desiring to learn more about this amazing genius.

Fascinating and Wonderfully Complete!
This book offers chapter after chapter of information on every aspect of Beethoven. I find that every time I pick this book up, I can find something interesting to read about. Obviously the music as catalogued and described. Beyond that, details of the great composer's personality, writing style, health difficulties, as well as his known views on a variety of topics provide endless hours of fascinating reading. I am impressed by the thoroughness of this book. Listings of people who Beethoven knew or interacted with, his influences and those he influenced, pictures and descriptions of his handwriting and manuscripts, the historical perspective on the times he lived in, all clearly described. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about this great master, and to anyone who is interested in the life and times of one of the most influential artists to ever live. In summary I have found it accurate and complete and always interesting. It is an indispensable reference.
