My FAVORITE cookbook!
Not only do we do a lot of entertaining, but we have a large family, so EVERY DAY we need recipes for a crowd. This book, designed for potluck suppers (everyone knows church potlucks provide the best food in the whole world!), is an every-day necessity at our house. My only complaint: I wish it was available in ring-bound hardback- my copy is in four pieces!

Simple & delicious recipes.
I've had this book for a couple of years. All of the recipes are easy to make. I've shared many of my recipes with friends who also loved them. A friend from work borrowed mine and just had to go out and buy her own copy. Great book!

One of the best personal accounts of a falconer.
I read this book some 25 years ago. Several times in fact. I am delighted to find that it is back in print! The trials and triumphs described are great lessons for experienced as well as novice falconers. A good object lesson for analyzing the personal preparations for handling such a large and powerful raptor.

FANTASTIC, a true work of love & pain to tame a true killer.
Sam Barnes deserves our utmost respect for the huge efforts he made to bring a Berkut Golden Eagle from behind the iron curtain to the county side of wales. Once he received her his "battles" had just begun. He had to tame a raptor that could easily kill him with her talons as she had killed wolves in the wild. Mr. Barnes discribes the sad treatment Atalanta recieved by her cruel captors, the tender affection she showed for an "adopted" owlet and the savagery which always lurked just below the surface of this beautiful creature. If you love animals, raptors or a good story about a person who wanted to make a difference using will, love and patience do not miss this book. At the end you will want it to go on and on.

If Toni Credella had helped Alice when she asked, would Alice still be alive? Driven by guilt, Toni can't wait for the Baltimore Police Department to find her neighbor's murderer. The death of a street woman isn't as high on their priority list as that of the thirty-year-old corpse found two days earlier in the same area. Toni's priorities are different: Alice was her friend and lacking a motive for her death, Toni searches for a link between the two murders.

Keep your eye on Louise Titchener's Toni Credella, Baltimore's most unlikely PI: She is smart - street smart, that is. No slick, jet-setter, Toni's not a tougher-than-Hammer super woman, she doesn't bumble comically; she has no cat and never mentions knitting. Toni is very loveable but she's on the outs with a lot of people: she's estranged from her family and almost all of Baltimore's finest because she shot her drunken policeman husband when he nearly beat her to death. She's profoundly dyslexic, a high school dropout and unable to read or drive a car. For transportation she has just her own strong legs and a bicycle. Only sporadically hired as an interior decorator, she lives just slightly better than her neighbors, Baltimore's street people: she has a home - a derelict she bought from the city and is redecorating with other people's cast-offs.

Toni Credella has some pretty strange friends: There's Randall, her gay attorney, and O'Dell, one Baltimore Policeman who believes Toni's husband deserved what she gave him. There's her new boss, Maloney, a former cop turned PI who is still hung up on his ex-wife. And there are her friendly neighbors Alice, Jimmy and Harmony of Baltimore's street community. Add to this mix a sister Sandy who disapproves of Toni, her home, her friends, her past, her present and her future, but who cries on Toni's shoulder whenever she has a problem with her husband Al, another Baltimore policeman who detests Toni.

The way Ms. Titchener writes, the reader forgets he's not right beside Toni on the streets of Baltimore, in the soup line or at the docks in this colorfully-peopled story told in rich, full-bodied, yet concise detail. She weaves the complex personalities of the characters into the fabric of the story so adroitly that the reader would recognize them from across the street and rush over to drop a dollar in a cap or slink away hoping to remain unnoticed.

As the story unfolds, Toni tries to put together a life for herself after being acquitted of killing her husband. She has to balance her desire for love with her desire to make a living, learn self confidence as well as self defense and find absolution for her guilt. In the process she escapes attempts on her life and ultimately proves her mettle as a PI - Toni is an over comer.

This incredibly well crafted story keeps the reader riveted with its intrigue and expressive writing. It's impossible to read Buried in Baltimore without clamoring for the next Toni Credella adventure. I give Buried in Baltimore by Louise Titchener a full five stars; it's an outstanding PI mystery.

Great Book
BURIED IN BALTIMORE by Louise Titchener Hard Shell Word Factory - April 2001 ISBN: 0759900396 - Ebook ISBN: 0759900426 - Paperback This is one of those books that sucks you into the action from page one. Antoinette Credella comes from a good Italian family. Unfortunately she is not on good standings with them because she killed her abusive husband who also just happened to be a Baltimore policeman, Determined to make it on her own against all odds, including severe dyslexia, Toni decides she wants to be a private investigator. She asks a trusted friend who tells her she must do an apprenticeship and finds her a private eye willing to take her on. When one of Toni's friends, a homeless person named Alice is found murdered Toni is curious. Especially after it comes to light that she was found on the site that a young girl's skeleton had been recovered. It appears the skeleton has been there for 20 years. Is there a connection between the two? When Toni seems to be making progress, it appears that someone will go to any length to stop her. I had a feeling for the city of Baltimore from the very start, from the row house that Toni was trying to restore and renovate to the large businesses downtown to the water slapping against the docks on the harbor shores. In Toni Credella I found a character for which I could really feel. She is faced with so many obstacles but still cares about the people around her. Louise Titchener has written a truly suspenseful book.

A Great Book about Colorado!
"C is for Centennial" by Colorado native Louise Whitney is a wonderful and informative book about the beautiful state of Colorado-written in the alphabetical letter format. This delightful book celebrates Colorado's 100 plus years of statehood with rhymes and facts about selected Coloradoans, historical landmarks, natural resources, and even the state song. The text is creatively and well written, the corresponding illustrations are well chosen, complementary, and beautifully done, and the entire book is a treasure to read. Each new alphabetical letter that is introduced is so interesting that you want to immediately turn to the next page to see what the following letter represents!

Many of the well-known sites (especially to visitors of the state) are represented, such as Mesa Verde, Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, Four Corners, and the Royal Gorge. But you will be surprised by the numerous additional facts about Colorado that you didn't know about such as herbal teas, the poetess who wrote "America the Beautiful", rodeos, the Pony Express, and even bicycles! Bravo to Louise Whitney for her authorship and extensive knowledge and to Helle Urban for her lovely and life-like illustrations throughout the book and the cover. You can really see in reading Whitney's creative work that she holds Colorado close to her heart.

This book is not only for children of all ages; adults will also enjoy the illustrations and facts about Colorado. It is a real treat to sit back and read about a state well traveled and loved by many. "C is for Centennial" is a splendid book that needs to be in homes and on the shelves of school and community libraries. It will prove to be a valuable resource book for students who may be assigned the task of writing a state report in their classrooms.

Beautiful Book about Beautiful Colorado
This book is just wonderful. I loved reading it and enjoyed the illustrations. The illustrator got the feel of Colorado just right. Younger children will love the rhyming couplets, and will try to memorize them on the spot. Middle school children will find the sidebar texts interesting and full of fun facts about Colorado. As a Colorado resident, I especially enjoyed discovering the places and people the author featured. As an educator I feel this book would be a great addition to children's non-fiction collections at home and school and will appeal to kids ages 5-14.

excellent
I have many gardening books but this is definatly my favorite. My copy has been used so much it is starting to fall apart. It contains excellent information on what to plant were. I would definatly recomend it.

My Gardening Bible
This book has revolutionised my gardening methods. Within a year of buying it 15 years ago, my garden became healthy and productive. Riotte has taught me how to match plants which are able to protect each other from pests and diseases without the use of sprays, chemical or organic. Her methods have built an invisible wall around my garden which keeps pests confined to my neighbors' yards without crossing into mine.

Had I never read another gardening book or watched any gardening show, this book alone would have made me a successful organic gardener. I highly recommend it to beginning or advanced organic gardeners alike.

Unflinching and dramatic
Irene Louise's novel, Circumstance Of Conception is the riveting story of Grace Mulligan, a counselor at a Baltimore women's shelter who is brutally beaten and raped in a shadowed parking lot. Two weeks later Grace awakens from a coma to find that the assault upon her body has altered her life. Her husband, Jackson, tries to come to terms with what has happened but a rift grows between them when Grace discovers that as a result of the rape she is now pregnant. Grace is plunged into an emotional and familial maelstrom as the instinct to protect her unborn child clashes with her need to preserve her family. Circumstance Of Conception is an unflinching and dramatic examination of critical personal and social issues that are as timely as today's newspaper headlines.

CIRCUMSTANCE OF CONCEPTION by Irene Louise
Read the book cover to cover, it was hard to put it down and
I thoroughly enjoyed the read.

The book is extremely well written and very compelling, bringing you personally into the lives of the individual characters.

The script has you agreeing and disagreeing with them; liking and not liking them.

I can not tell you more without revealing story lines.

I would recommend this book to anyone who appreciates a great novel.

Well researched and Thought Out
I used this book for a paper on feminism in post WWI France. It was amazing. Her book reads very well, and is well documented. She supports her facts with statistics, but also real life stories from the men at the front and the women holding down the fort. It was a great book for anyone interested in gender roles and identity in post WWI France.

Hello Lou!
I have not read this book but I did take a Modern European History class with the author. That was in 1988 at Brown and she is still the best prof. I've ever had. If you read this, drop me (eli) a line at eg122@columbia.edu. I've ordered the book so soon I'll give a real review

Absolutely amazing carvings!
I recently purchased the book as a gift for my aunt, who is a chef. I was amazed and awestruck at what I saw. The carvings were beautiful, and in some cases, even more beautiful than the real flowers. Worth every single penny! The only problem I had with it was that the instructions came in four different languages on each page, and it was a tad disorienting locating the English portions. Other than that, I have no complaints!

Wow!
I have read this book, and have found it to be very informative. The illustrations greatly enhance the instructions. I say this from experience working in garde-manger for many years, and being a caterer. This book greatly assists the novice and the experienced. It is in great comfort I can recommend this book to anyone with an artistic flare.

An on-the-desk-next-to-the-PC kind of book
This is an excellent book. Lots of examples, lots of 'why' and 'how to' sections. It's laid out in a useful way making the book an ongoing reference. There's a great section on resumes as well. The out placement company prepared a resume for me that was more a five page tome. I used the resume chapter in this book and quicly kicked my search into high gear. I only wish I had bought this book sooner.

Most thorough and useful guide for cover letters
This is the best book on the market for writing cover letters. In addition to giving many articulate cover letters to peruse, the book has sections with examples of introductory paragraphs, middle sections, and closing paragraphs. For each of these examples (I think there were more than 40 for the intro), there is a pro and con given, which are really helpful. Also, the book goes over the many different kinds of cover letters that exist, and explains which type is best for each job situation.

Oh, and for those people who are recent graduates or don't have that much experience- there is a whole chapter for you with examples of very strong, well written letters. This is particularly nice because most cover letter examples in other books are strong letters because of the strong candidate- not because the letter is extremely well written. There is also a chapter for the professional with years of experience.

This is the only book you need for writing cover letters! Do not waste your money on other guides that are not as complete.
