Great second book!
In this second book we find Tarod 'prisoner' in a castle with the time stopped, he himself provoked this stasis. His soul is trapped in a jewel and he waits...

Until Cyllan, the drover girl he had met in the first book is caught by a warp and ends in the shores of the castle. Tarod and Cyllan get to know each other, but mainly they discover Tarod, his true nature and what a startling nature that is! Cyllan becomes very loyal to Tarod, and eventually the stasis is broken and they are again loose in the world...

This book is more fast paced than the previous and the relations between the characters are very interesting. We begin to see that it's wrong when only one side rules (in this case order), there needs to be an equilibrium.

The Outcast
I found this book absolutely fantastic. I read it about ten years ago and lent my whole set to somebody who never returned them. I'd love to read them again but have only been able to purchase the first and last one as 'The Outcast' is out of print at present. Please, please, if anybody out there knows where I can get a copy, please let me know - I'm desperate! I can't wait to get back into the story of Tarod and after reading the reviews above, I want to read them even more.

this book is awesome!!!!!!
Louise Cooper is a great author, I'm in the process of reading all her books (to bad they're so hard to find). But I think The Outcast will always be the best. It's fast paced and the plot is spellbinding. I read this book before the Initiate but I still caught on to plot okay, yet its not redundant. The character development is so good that it makes you fall in love with the good guys(Chaos) and forever despise the bad ones (I can't even make myself type the evil -O- word, that's how much I hate them). This book brings out the best and worst in a person's emotions, at times I wanted to cry and other times I wanted to kill. The plot revolves around Tarod, who in the previous book, was almost executed before he stopped time, living soulless, timeless, and alone in the castle while the rest of the world lived on, until Cyllan and the Heir Margrave, Drachea, broke through the barrier. A barrier of mistrust, misunderstanding, and dislike quickly arises between the three of them. Until one of them (I won't say who) breaks through it so they can work together to restore time and Tarod's soul then leave the castle and live together and not bother anybody. But something interferes (I won't say what) and screws up their plan. You'll just have to read it to find out.

Our Review in 1999
The following review (below) was written Friday, Oct 22, 1999 for our Divine Rights Newsletter at Spiritweb. Today, we still know that "WALK LIKE AN EGYPTIAN" by Romona Louise Wheeler is the best Book we have ever read on Egypt! Throughout the book, Ms. Wheeler's personality blends history and humor to make reading fun and interesting.

At the time of the newsletter in 1999 we made a Special Review Web Page in honor of Ramona Louise Wheeler and her book.

Oct 22, 1999 REVIEW FOR "WALK LIKE AN EGYPTIAN"

Dear Friends and Family,

We are introducing to you the most balanced book on Egyptian Spirituality that we have ever read. The Author is gifted in presenting her unique insights into Ancient Egyptian history. "Walk Like an Egyptian" by Ramona Louise Wheeler could very well be the handbook for understanding Natural Spirituality, the Passion of the Egyptians and returning to the Golden Age.

With permission from Ramona Louise Wheeler we present Chapter one of "Walk Like an Egyptian" in two parts. Enjoy!

A highly valued contribution to New Age studies.
Walk Like An Egyptian is a compelling and informative survey of ancient Egyptian philosophy and religion. Chapters are devoted to basic concepts of reality and the human soul; the essential Egyptian view of the self; the role and symbolism of ancient Egyptian deities, and much, much more. Walk Like An Egyptian is a highly valued contribution to New Age studies and will prove of immense interest to students of Egyptology, philosophy, metaphysical studies, and the meaning of the self.

Open up, wise-men-&women
While I was searching for the origin of hypnosis (I don't believe that Anton Mesmer "invented" hypnosis -- hypnosis is a natural and common biological phenomenum), I bumped into this website and the author. The question I asked was "Did the ancient Egyptian have a specialized god like the Greek's Hypnos in charge of hypnosis?". No, but hypnosis was used all over in their daily life! They don't need a god to handle that job.

As a Chinese, I am, of course, very proud of the "very long 5000 years of Chinese histroy". However, there is always a curiousity -- is there someone else "older and greater" than our ancestors? Did the Chinese "invented" the concept of Yin and Yang (the dualism), where many "traditional believes and concepts" came from? ... etc.

This website, now the book, opened my eyes to see the what happend in the ancient world, and I enjoyed very much. Some of my personal misunderstandings about the Chinese "greatness" were shaken down, and make me more humble. I even wrote an article entitled "Walk Like a Smiling Egyptian", which was included in my first hypnosis book (in Chinese). And at the same time, this book confirmed my observations -- every religion was invented by someone(s) for a specific purpose, Christian believe is not an exception (I read the Bible from page one to the end 100 times when I was in college.), and every religion is like a biological species "on top of the earth" -- it evolved sometime in geological time, and multipled and then eventually died out.

If there is anything that I would suggest, I think this book should have some illustrations and heiragraphs. For example, what the Isis/Hathor, etc. look like? To an beginner to the field of ancient Egypt, I think these pictures/drawings visual illustrations are very important.

As for general book readers, I strongly recommand this excellent book -- if you dare to open up your frog-in-a-deep-well (a Chinese idom, meaning turnnel vision) mind.

One World Ends - A New World Begins
Here is another book about a long-feared possibility - nuclear war.

The story begins on a May afternoon in England. The sirens wail and people panic - war has suddenly broken out between East and West and the bombs are falling. Very soon the war is over, and from that afternoon the world has changed forever...

Louise Lawrence writes a convincing story about the end of an old world and the start of a new one. There are three main characters in the book: Sarah, Ophelia and Simon. Each of these characters represent their respective generation. Through these people we see how the war has affected their lives and the world around them.

There have been many stories written about nuclear war, and I think that out of the ones I've read this is the most optimistic. It was the first book that made me think that life could actually continue and even improve after such an horrific event. Apart from the obvious theme of war, the book makes you think about issues like race, religion and evolution. Although this book is aimed at a teenage audience, people of all ages can appreciate it.

One of the best books I've ever read
This is a wonderful book. It's a pity it's out of print, since it makes its availability so small. It's an extremely moving, and a very believable book about three generations of future nuclear war, one of those rare books that make the reader shift through so many different feelings that the end brings a calm sense of peace. I recommend this book to everybody.

Amazingly profound and emotional
Louise Lawrence created a masterpiece when she wrote CHILDREN OF THE DUST. It's honesty and naivete evoke emotions you never knew you had. If you read this novel, please share it with a friend.

A self-help, inspirational book that makes you think
I heard about the book, Gary's Wish List and was curious, so I purchased it and read the entire book in one sitting. It took hours to finish the story but I couldn't put it down...the author takes you on a journey with her son and family that you shall never forget. Gary is a teenage boy diagnosed with leukemia. His personal journal and his mom's journal capture the essence of how a patient and care giver approach the same illness with different attitudes and concerns. Gary's Wish List is a must read for everyone. It will help you understand how to help families in crisis, realize that God is with you even though it looks doubtful, and through the author's unveiling of her true feelings you can comprehend her anger and bravery as she worked her way through the grief process to lead a productive life. Gary's Wish List is an actual list of the teenager when he was in a protective environment. Gary's list and this story is one I shall always remember.

Brilliant! A must-read book!
Gary was sixteen when he was diagnosed with leukemia. His oncologist recommended immediate chemotherapy, and the monitoring of Gary's reaction to the medication.

Gary's Wish List tells the story of Gary's remaining time on this earth. His mother, author and educator Mary Louise Selph deftly discusses all the ramifications of learning of her son's diagnosis. The guilt, the sadness, the feelings of defeat and desperation, the shock, confusion and inadequacy. And the anger and loss of faith.

Gary's words, in letters he wrote to friends and family, along with conversations with his immediate family shine a light of understanding and courage in the face of such a huge disaster. We learn how Gary finds the means to still be a teenager...and their reaction when the chemo wasn't working.

Pneumonia, weight loss, hair loss and weakness follow as well as a near-death experience from the chemo that was designed to strengthen Gary for a bone marrow transplant. During the brush with death Gary had an out-of-body experience that enabled him to relate everything that happened even though he was unconscious! All that was followed by the transplant, and protective isolation and radiation.

The treatment helped, but only for a while. Gary succumbed after nine months of a valiant fight. His funeral was held on what would have been his first day as a high school senior.

Gary's legacy is courage and the sacredness of life. Gary's Wish List is another. Mary Louise Selph has found the courage to write a page-turner of a book that enables the reader to walk in her shoes, and Gary's, too. In this reviewer's opinion, Gary's Wish List is a means to find peace through understanding!

A Must Read for Families and/or Medical Personnel
I could not put Gary's Wish List down even though I was aware that Gary didn't survive. The author takes you on a journey that you'll never forget. The reader feels like they are sitting in the passenger's seat with the hero in the story. You laugh with the family, you ache during their tragedy, and when you've read the last sentence, one realizes that life is beautiful and that God is good. This book is a must read for anyone working with patients and those who are rearing children.

Read and re read!!!
The Mother I Carry reads very well! Louise Wisechild is a gifted story teller, in her poignant autobiography of surviving incredible emotional abuse at the hands of her chronically narcissistic mother.

I recommend this book for anyone who wants to understand how our childhood relationships affect our adult life; the emotionally crippling "messages" we receive as children of abusers; how these messages are internalized; what we try to do to counterbalance them [survive]; and how effectively a creative child can be in the face of overwhelming abuse; and how and what we can do to heal our wounded selves so we can function with conscious awareness and true connection in our adult world.

Louise uses the concept of "inner selves" to illustrate how under the incredible stress of emotional [and sexual...see her other book "the Obsidian Mirror, written before this one] abuse, strong emotions [especially conflicting ones] have to be compartmentalized, into smaller individual "packages" in order for a child to survive the belief that death is the only alternative.

This is a wonderful affirmation for pluralized individuals anywhere on the continuum between differentiation and dissociation, be it full MPD/DID or Mid -continuum [DDNOS]. There is no debate over integration/non; in fact no mention of MPD/DID, just pure and total acceptance of her method of dealing with the abuse she suffered, and the restructuring of her responses to triggers, in order to move forward in a healthy happy life.

Read and re-read...any one who cares about maintaining interaction with the world in which they currently live will benefit from this book.

Triumph in the end of a pain filled journey
I think maybe "recovery" takes on different forms for everyone and it was interesting to read about Louise's life and lifestyle today. This book is very helpful to those who know their parents should never have been parents, and in breaking the generational cycle. Louise's writing style is very bold and holds nothing back, it comes across as having all the honesty and truth she clearly values. For writing this book, Louise should be extremely proud.

The Mother I Carry
Once again Louise's articulation has captured my feelings and put them into words. Her insights into growing up with a mother who isn't on your side are painful but healing to hear. I see a pattern between these self loathing mothers and their connection to being the victims of incest long buried but still festering. I loved seeing her progression as she healed and calmed the voices of her past and present. Both of her books have changed my life in a positive and empowering way.

Oneness and Separateness: From Infant to Individual

Helpful, but so mom-focused
As many other reviewers have stated, this is a helpful book. But I just wanted to note that it is very mom-focused. The author acts as if the bond with the mother is the only bond, and the father just happens to be hanging around. Since it was written in 1978, this could have something to do with it, but I would argue that, while the bond with the mother is very important, parents can do quite a lot to assure that the baby is bonding and close to both parents. Just something to keep in mind. (This isn't meant to be a review of the whole book, just a side note.)

An absolute must for conscious child rearing
This book allows you to get to a place that all parents wish they could be, inside their childs thoughts. I now have more understanding and MUCH more patience. It is easy now to be compassionate instead of upset since so many of my questions have been answered regarding infants moods, thoughts, feelings, and behavior. It has not only given me a new perspective on childhood behavior, it has helped me to understand my own!

Very engaging, readable and informative
This book is wonderful. It explains and delineates the phases through which babies and toddlers go as they develop, using Margaret Mahler's theories, but making them accessible to the layperson. If you ever tried to read Mahler's "The Psychological Birth of the Infant", you know how scholarly and intellectually dense a work it is (I tried, but couldn't). Further, the loving and lyrical style makes it engaging and joyous to read. I wish that fathers (I am one, to a toddler girl) would read it, too.

You can paint flowers with Louise
When using this book I found it easy to understand the preliminary sketches and follow them quite easily. The explanations about colors, how to mix them in order to get shades and contrast are superbly explained. The materials used an how to handle them are clear, and "secrets" about which amount of water to use, the techniques of wet over wet and wet on dry are perfectly understandable and easy to follow. once you tested you learned al the "how tos" you can try your own design. Yet, I'd have liked to see more step to step indications if this publication was directed to beginners. This publication is a must for amateur and self-trained watercolorists but not for fresh beginners.

Start here if you are a beginning watercolor flower painter
It was sheer luck that I picked up this book. I had finished stenciling all my walls, all the wood in my house and was looking for a way to continue when I picked up this wonderful book. It's perfect for a beginner. I loved it and every painting lesson in it. She's clear, she goes at the reader's pace. This isn't for advanced artists or even hobbyists in watercolor of long standing, but it got me into the wonderful world of watercolor painting, a medium I had never tried. Jackson should write more books and give more advanced lessons. Great book.

This is the Best Book I own
The lessons are super - also gives you templates to
produce the same pictures with help features along the
way

Holiday Favorite
For as long as I can remember, every Christmas Eve my family would gather around my dad as he read this story to us. Although we are all adults now, and two spouses have entered the family, we all still look forward to hearing this story read aloud. We practically know it by heart. It captures the warmth and beauty of the simplicity of sharing, with humorous characters and perfect illustrations to match. And I know the tradition will continue on in our own families.

A Christmas Tradition
If you want to start a Christmas tradition for your children, their children and following generations...this is THE book to have. It's a story about giving, sharing and all those important ideals we want our children to carry with them into adulthood.

A "happy feeling" book...
I have read this book EVERY year for the past 15 years and I just read it again. I laugh and then I cry and then when it's over I hold it tight for just a minute to make sure the happy feeling lasts! My grandchilren are old enough now for us to enjoy it together...and we will.

No more Pacifier!!
This book helped my daughter get ready to say "bye bye" to her
pacifier. She still likes to read the book even now that the pacifier is gone.

My daughter tossed her binky after 2 weeks with this book!
I bought my daughter this book two weeks ago. She is two months shy of 3 years old. She has always been tremendously comforted by her binky. We have been limiting her binky use to naps and bedtime and extreme distress for quite a while now, but have been anxious for her to get rid of it. After a week of reading this book, she turned to me and said, "I'm not ready, Mommy." I told her she'd be ready one day. One week later, yesterday morning, she woke up saying, "Mommy, I'm ready to say Bye Bye Binky!" I am convinced it's because of this book. I asked her what she wanted to do with the binky and she said "Throw it in the trash." And that she did. She was aware that Baby Miss Piggy doesn't throw hers in the trash, but we kind of glossed over that part. My daughter appreciated that the first time Nanny suggests that Baby Piggy is too old for the pacifier, she said she still wanted it and did get it back. I think it helps, too, that the book has a part where Baby Piggy says she feels kind of silly because her friends don't use a pacifier anymore. I know my daughter gave up her binky on her own two months ago at preschool for that very reason. At first I thought this book would be too babyish for my daughter, but it clearly wasn't.

A big help from Santa
Santa sent this book to my son when he was three and still using his pacifier. When I read this cute book to my son that Santa sent, he imediatly threw away his pacie and never said anything about it again. I believe he made this decission because the book came from Santa. Thanks Santa, for a wonderful book that helped solve a little problem.
