Easter Island revealed
In the early 1900's Katherine Routledge sailed from England to Easter Island on the schooner 'Mana', leading a group of experts on the first modern day scientific expedition to uncover the secrets of the island. This book is a first-hand account of the expedition. It includes lots of detail on the famous stone statues (moai), the native people & their legends, the mysterious script (rongo-rongo), the bird cult, and much more. Routledge even managed to learn the local language in the hope that interviewing the natives would shed some light on the island's prehistory.

The book is well written and fun to read. It includes lots of fine illustrations, including photos and drawings, depicting the most important sites. It is definately a must-read for visitors to the island, or just for anyone interested in Easter Island and its strange history.

I fancy the image of Katherine Routledge as a kind of Indiana Jones of the feminine persuasion. Certainly she was adventurous for a woman of the early part of the century; just getting to the island in a yacht ranks as a mildly swashbuckling achievement. There are also some references in the book that she had already been to East Africa, perhaps before the turn of the century, although I have been unable to find further information on this.

excellent early view of Easter Island (1914-1915)
The Mystery of Easter Island was originally published in 1919, based upon the research of an English lady, Katherine Routledge, who lived on the island in 1914-15. She learned the Rapanui language and interviewed all the old people she could find who still remembered the past. The more we now know about the archaeology of Easter Island, the better this material looks. Routledge did excavations, camped out all over the island and accumulated vast quantities of research material. A 'must read' for someone going to Easter Island.

New York's 50 Best Places to Take Children

Great Ideas!
I (like many) have been to NYC many, many times. But, going with children is a whole new experience. This book is helpful because it mentions things many visitors wouldn't know (Did you know there was a monorail in the Bronx zoo?). Great book!

Written from a kids perspective and right on!
You will no longer have any excuse for being bored on a rainy day (or a sunny day either!) I recently took my 5 year old to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island without first checking to see what information this book offered. BAD MOVE! My son was tired of waiting on the long lines, bored with static exhibits, hungry, hot, etc. If I had checked with New York's 50 Best Places to Take Children I would have found out that there is a 90 minute tour boat that goes past the Statue of Liberty. My son would have seen the statue without the long, tiring lines to wait on just to go to the top of the pedestal (we weren't early enough to go to the crown). Mr. Ishac has captured the best attractions the big apple has to offer a child from the kid's point of view. The book is small enough to carry in a pocket while acting like a tourist; even if you have lived in NY all of your life like I have. Included in the featured attractions are the usual favorites such as the American Museum of Natural History and the Empire State building plus some unusual and obscure spots such as the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory. Now I just have to try and find the time to visit all of these great places.

Perfect Pool Player Gift!!
I bought this book for my sister who is a pool player.
Even though they play alot, its nice to have different options on games to play. I would recommend this book as a perfect gift for your pool playing friends!

Awesome!
AS a rookie pool player I found this book very encouraging and gratifying to assist with my pool limited abilities. Not only did I learn new games with enjoyment, but I also gained a sense of pool strategies and techniques. I would recommend this book to anyone with the slightest interest in pool, whether it be for entertainment or as a learning tool. Thankyou for providing a book which I have never been to exposed to before.

Another Good One
In this book the remnants are tired of fighting and want to make a piece treaty with Billy in control of the ship. The Blue meanies don't want that however and they have some new toys or "weapons" that they plan on using. Blue meanies aren't the only thing terrorizing the humans though. There's a new race of humans being born on the ship that's human but not. Violet also has a new secret to share but will it hurt more than help you'll have to read this action packed book to find out.

Excellent Book
I really enjoyed Remnants #9 No Place Like Home. There was a lot of action in this book, especially near the end. A new character was introduced in this book. Some new mutations occured. More information was found about previous characters. Unlike like the last book, this book isn't slow-paced. I'm looking forward to Remnants #10 Lost and Found!

An excellent but readable reference book
This substantial book is filled with rare, many never before seen black and white photos of decades of blues players, accompanied with an entertaining and informative text.

A great book for the blues fan, but readable enough for a newcomer to the genre. A must buy at an not unreasonable price, considering some slighter, less well researched and informative volumes.

Without doubt a "definitive reference"
Every once in awhile a book comes along that can virtually answer all your questions and at the same time incorporate stories on artists both obscure and well-known...that keeps you from putting it down [very difficult for a book that can be considered a reference work]. The pictures included alone are well worth the price of the book. Many of them rare and never seen before by many of the blues fans who would be interested in this work. If you are going to have one book in your home library on Blues....this is the one to have. Tom tkdp@castle.net

Amazing
I really enjoy Katherine Applegates books. This was one of the best of her books that I have read. Katherine has a way of entering you into the life of each character and you are able to feel the pain from each. I wish for anyone to please email me and give me their views.

The best yet!
If anyone wants to read a book that will excite them for more, this is the book. I love the characters and how Katherine Applegate handles them. A truly great book!!! Read it!

The illustrations are the best I've seen
The illustrations in this book are absolutely stunning. They are photographed of modeled clay, and look as crisp and whimsical as the works of Nick Parks (of Wallace and Grommit fame). The sequencing and rhyming of colors and objects is clever, and is still fun the 10th or 20th+ time you read it to your little one. My daughter loves looking for the gray mouse in every picture, and I am still finding new things to discover in the pictures myself. I can't recommend this book highly enough. Ideal for children from 1-3.

Wonderful! Even for the very, very young!
The rhythmic text and the brightly-coloured illustrations captivated my child as early as 4 months of age. The repetition of colour from one page to the next and the little mouse collecting a souvenir in each illustration only add that much more to an engaging read-aloud experience.

Chapter 5 is about me
My name is Amy Petrucelli and chapter 5 is about me, my sister Betsy and our brother Frankie.
The very first time I read Ginny's story and at that time it was a draft, it brought tears to my my eyes and my late mothers. If it were not for Ginny and Hospice to help us as children to cope with death and dying, I do not think I would be here today. This book is more than helpful and insightful, at least for me. I encourage any person(s) having known a child or know one who is going through death and dying to read this book and share it with that child and help them to work through their loss, questions and fears, Lord knows the author Virginia Fry did that for me.

IT WAS EXCELLENT! I LOVED IT!
I really enjoyed this book. I bought it a few years after my mother died, and it helped me a great deal with what I was feeling, thinking, and seeing. It also helped me deal with the day-to-day struggles that I encountered. Thank you so much for writing this book.

The Persona Book
If you're looking for a way to make students feel a part of the Middle Ages, the Civil War, Ancient Greece or Egypt, this book is a must have! The authors use literary or historical characters to introduce children to history--in a first hand way. Learn about medieval times by taking on the persona of King Arthur or Guinevere. Learn about the Civil War by being Grant or Lee. Understand ancient Greece and Egypt through the eyes of their mythological gods. Children will love this approach to history.

Provides a creative, yet practical, way of teaching history
This book provides a creative yet practical way of bringing history to life for students in grades 4-6. Each chapter provides teachers with ideas for enriching curriculum content areas. I've shared this book with several of the teachers in my school and, now, they all use it.
