Easy to use test battery for children and adults.
The Bader Reading and Language Inventory is a useful resource for literacy specialists and classroom teachers. This publication is valuable for in-depth diagnostic evaluation, but also has practical tools for quick screening to determine reading level.

The Test Battery section contains Word Recognition Lists and Graded Reading Passages on levels preprimer through high school.

As the Director of a large nonprofit literacy organization providing services for adults and children, I can verify that this is the most useful and comprehensive diagnostic inventory available.

Bel Air by Katherine Stone
Bel Air is definitely one of Katherine Stone's best. It is one of her older books and takes place in the mid 1980's with all of the lavish opulence one could expect from California Socialites. If you like any of her books, this one you will simply adore.

First Class Romance!
This is the first book by Katherine Stone I have read. Now, I a lifetime fan. This story follow three women in their journey towards their career goals and love. I love the way the story links the lives of the characters together. How the chance meetings and circumstances changes the lives of the unsuspecting cast. The changes are so subtle that they don't realize what hit them until their deeply in love and can't do a thing about it. This is a wonderful book, that I will read over and over again.

A Beautiful, Spiritual Book
Nice flow of poetry. Mosby has a fresh choice of words to fit her work. Worth the read and inspiring style.

A wonderful collection of spiritual verse.
This book of poetry immediately became one of my favorites. Mosby's verse is both spiritual and contemplative. Each poem invites introspection and contemplation of the many facets of our lives. Her verse is smooth and simple while evoking beautifully crafted metaphors. Each poem is an eloquent prayer from the soul.

I strongly recommend this book for any poetry enthusiast. Mosby's verse is both healing an uplifting. I have given _The Book of Uncommon Prayer_ as a gift to several friends.

Make History Come Alive!
Bringing Your Family History to Life Through Social History is a great book. John Fiske said "Without genealogy, the study of history is lifeless." I believe that without history, the study of genealogy is meaningless. With this book, you can make your family history meaningful. From the forward: "Trust me. You are not alone. I felt exactly the same way you do. Names and dates on a genealogical chart were fun - for a while. Then I remember thinking, 'Is this all there is to genealogy? [...]' I was craving for something more than sterile facts." Sturdevant shows you how to make it all come to life.

The book has numerous examples, some published, some private collection materials, to help you see what you can do with your family's history. Even if you don't intend to get your stories published, there will probably be someone to follow you who will be overjoyed to read the detailed descriptions you can create with this book.

If you have a huge list of names and dates which have no real meaning, this is the book for you. It really will breathe new life into your genealogical research. I *highly* recommend Bringing Your Family History to Life Through Social History. I find it to be a very useful book, and an excellent reminder when my research stalls.

Terrific Resource
Kathy Sturdevant brings her expertise of social history to the world of family history and genealogy with humor, flair, and solid information. With clear examples and explanations of the many sources/resources available to family historians, this book bridges the often separated worlds of history and genealogy with a lively style and enjoyable wit. Tips on preserving and documenting family "artifacts," a meaty bibliography, photos (and how to "read" them), research pointers, thought-provoking ideas for research, helpful and accessible academic orientation. I took Kathy's course on the same topic (co-taught with Certified Genealogist Sharon DeBartolo Carmack)--the book demonstrates why Kathy is such a popular instructor at her institution. Reading the book is almost as good as taking the course; maybe better if you prefer to skip the required term paper. :-) On the other hand, you'll miss Sharon's infamous Halloween lecture at the local cemetery and the intriguing antique artifacts Kathy brings to class.

Another winner
Building the Awesome Organization is the second in a series from Katherine Catlin and Jana Matthews. The authors understand that finding the right people and treating them right is the key to business success. This book isn't full of theory and platitudes - it has concrete steps to grow a healthy company.

So you've survived the start-up phase and now you find yourself in the position of "leader". Ever wonder if you're cut out for it? Ever wonder if you know what you're supposed to do? Page 220 has the answer.

The book has an interesting format. Lessons are built around stories from real entrepreneurs and leaders. Most chapters have surveys that can be used to gauge your organization's health and your progress as a leader. This won't be a book that you read and then put away - it is more of a guide that you'll refer to as you grow your company.

Needed now more than ever!
We are now working our way out of a recession brought on in part by new economy companies who strayed as far as possible away from the fundamentals needed to create a profitable business. This is perfect timing for a book that should serve as the bible for anyone who wants to build a truly great organization that will stand the test of time...and of profitability. A simple and quick read, this book covers the stuff that entrepreneurs ignore at their own peril, such as the vital importance of culture, the value of making planning more than just an exercise in numbers, and how focusing on your infrastructure can make it easier to get the real work done. Catlin and Matthews have done entrepreneurs everywhere a huge service with this book.

Now more than ever
This book comes at a perfect time. Everyone is a litle down and worried about life. What a great time to indulge yourself at home. The recipes in this book are clear and "cookable" (and you do not have to be a master chef to cook them), the ingredients tell your guests that you really care and it is no more expensive than cooking a prime rib dinner. The writing is excellent and the pictures are beautiful.

I can cook Foie Gras?!!!
Very clear recipes, beautiful pictures, very thoughtful writing on the environmental issues. Most importantly I have now actually cooked with Foie Gras in my own home and the meal was no more expensive than a good cut of meat and wowed my guests.

GREAT BOOK!!!!
My 6 year old son checked this book out at the library and he loves it. We have read it atleast 3 times a day ever since he got it. I'm dreading returning it but hopefully I can find it somewhere to buy. This book is entertaining and funny and really keeps his attention. The illustrations are cute and funny and he loves just looking at it on his own and trying to read some of it himself. It's always hard to find a book that gets him trying to read but this one sure does it. It's VERY entertaining and I highly recommend it. My son knows most of it by heart now and still chooses for me to read it with him every night at bedtime and in the morning before school.

clever is the cleverest!
I borrowed this book from a friend, a little hesitant at first. I was going to read this book to my four year old daughter. She loved it! I added a bit of a southern drawl to entertain her but is definitely not required. The illustrations are fantastic and kept her even more interested in the story line. The Clever Cowboy enters a contest and gets in jam, and you wonder, how will he get out of it? The outcome is outrageously clever. My daughter and I have had wonderful discussions on other clever ways to help the town of yippee-ville out of this jam. They have been silly but it is a joy to hear her use her imagination in such crazy ways. The Clever Cowboy will be a big yee-haw for your little cowchild at home. It has been in mine.

Review of The Criminal Mind
Writer's Digest Books' The Criminal Mind by Katherine Ramsland is an insightful tool for the serious crime writer. It is more intellectual than most self-help writing books and can provide interesting ideas for fleshing out characters. It is deeply rooted in psychological theory and that makes it an exceptionally interesting read. Complex topics are explained in layman's terms. It is nice to have a writing guide by such a talented writer.

Excellent reference tool for crime/fiction writer
The Criminal Mind: A Writer's Guide to Forensic Psychology is an excellent reference tool for any crime or fiction writer who wants to write a believable story involving elements of criminal behavior and those who investigate and treat individuals who display this behavior. Katherine Ramsland, Ph.D., is herself a forensic psychologist and the author of fourteen previous nonfiction books. She uses a mixture of fiction and fact to describe the fundamentals of forensic psychology. She stresses the importance of keeping characters and their behavior realistic to an extent. By knowing how your character would really behave, Ramsland suggests that the writer can add credibility to both characters and plot of the crime, mystery or suspense novel.

Ramsland includes the liberal use of notorious examples from pop culture and media to illustrate various aspects of forensic psychology. From brief descriptions of individual assessment tools, to court testimony and strategy, she gives the writer/researcher answers to her many questions. Ramsland uses numerous colorful examples to illustrate her points, from real-life serial killers Ted Bundy and Jeffrey Daumer, to popular TV shows like "Law and Order" and the novels of Patricia Cornwell (The Body Farm) and Thomas Harris (Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal).

The Criminal Mind is written in clear, informal language, even given the necessary legal, forensic and psychological jargon defined throughout the book. This book is a must-have guide to help writers create truly human "bad guys" as well as believable mental health professionals.

This is one of my top 3 books on dachshunds. Very informative and full of crammed packed good stuff totally on Dachshunds. Lots of usuful info for novice or top dog here. I recommend this book to new puppy buyers.

Wonderful book on Dachshunds and the history of breeding!
This book is wonderful if you are interested in reading about Dachshunds and the history of breeding in the United States. I purchased this book because the breeder which I got my new Miniature Dachshund from is listed in the book and it gave me a lot of information as to the history of the breeder and their dogs lineage. It also gave insight on how they have helped other breeders start their lines. If you are beginning to look for a Dachshund and are going about it the right way by researching breeders this if definately the book for you to read.
