Architectural Ceramics for the Studio Potter: Designing, Building, Installing
Published in Hardcover by Lark Books (1999)

Great for large scale ceramic projects
I usually do small works; handbuilt and wheelthrown pieces and tiles. It was quite eye-opening to read this book on large scale projects. It is written in a very clear manner, with wonderful pictures.

I only fault him on his tile making techniques, which could be better, but hey, who cares? His expertise lies elsewhere. He has obviously worked out the best techniques for large ceramic projects.

I like the way the book is organized. The chapters are very sequentially logical (to me).
Chapter 1: Tools and Equipment
Chapter 2: Building and Decorating Techniques
Chapter 3: Sectioning, Drying, Glazing and Firing
Chapter 4: Installation
Chapter 5: The Projects
Chapter 6: Gallery

The Projects chapter reiterates some of the information in previous chapters, but this time applied to a particular project. This is fine with me, since reiteration is a good teaching technique. The Gallery chapter is quite inspirational! There are lots of pictures of installations done not only by Peter, but also other artists.

Makes me want to try some architectural ceramics!

The BEST!
I had the wonderful experience of apprenticing for Peter and finished soon after we did the photoshoot for the book. I have to say, Peter and his brother John both went through great lengths to make sure the book would have as much practical information in it as possible. The only thing better than the book is one of Peter's workshops. But with the book, all of the information that Peter gives is easy to look over time and time again. The pictures are great! As soon as you start making and install a floor, sink, fireplace and so on I'm sure that you'll be hooked. You'll realize that it is possible to do on your own or with a friend. You'll also see and understand how much farther you can push clay than you had ever expected. Plus, above all, it's alot of fun!

Inspiring
The pictures are fantastic! For those of you who are tired of tiny pots, this is the book.

I'm a student and as such I'm very new to the game. This book gave me not only inspiration but enough detailed information to allow me to plan my bathroom sink. The plans include the sink, tile, and following the example in the book, the plans for the forms I need to make so that the pieces will be shaped correctly. I hope to create and fire the pieces early next year.

Codex Derynianus: Being a Comprehensive Guide to the Peoples, Places & Things of the Derynye & the Human Worlds of the XI Kingdoms

This is the book that if you're a fan of the Deryni...
So it came out suddenly. So it vanished even more quickly, devoured and hoarded by eager fans. It's worth it, look for it when it comes out in paper (oh speed the day!). Herein you will find tantilizing hints, clues and nibbles that make even more of the novels seem that much more elusive and alluring. Trivia, puns, hidden clues and more await those not put off by the encyclopediac listings and beautifully detailed maps. A Baedeker for the Eleven Kingdoms...

The Codex Derynianus is the Sine Qua Non of Deryni fandom.
The Codex Derynianus is an encyclopedic guide to the world of the Deryni and the XI Kingdoms, but it is far more than that. It is funny, informative, and gives Deryni fans important information about the Kingdom of Torenth and the Royal House of Furstan that has not been brought to light before. Ditto with Meara, the Forcinn states and the lands to the South and East of Gwynedd proper. I feel extraordinarily fortunate to own a copy.

A MUST for any traveller to the XI Kingdoms
This book is THE guide for the traveller in the XI Kingdoms. If one has read all the other books with the Deryni Canon. Codex is a required addition to the library.

Desire and Surrender

Wow!!!
Katherine Sutcliffe, to me, is one of those 5 star author's. I don't rate many books in the A-plus, excellent category. The "elite" have to have memorable characters in a unique setting that support a truly GREAT story. Also, lets not forget that the relationship between hero and heroine has to be so strong that it leaves you thinking about the book days or weeks after you have finished it. I love when I find a book like that (hope I don't sound like a complete loser!!). Desire and Surrender fits into this category.

When I first picked up the book, I wasn't sure the Texas fight for independence and The Alamo was going to thrill me. Boy, was I wrong!! It just goes to show that any created situation can be successful and enjoyed if it is compassionate, well written and compelling. Ms. Sutcliffe gives us unforgettable characters in a unique setting with a forward moving ,active plot. I just loved the heroine and hero- Angelique Duhon and Alejandro de Bastitas. As their realtionship progresses the author leaves few emotions untapped. In this historical tale we have great elements of love, honor, family secrets, betrayal, loyalty, patriotism and war. The war threatens not only the love between Angelique and Alejandro but tests the strength and foundation of the De Bastitas family- a family torn apart by love and loyalty. Add to the mix murder, family betrayal and abuse and you have a thouroughly captivating novel.

I believe this novel is one Of Katherine Sutcliffe's earlier works and certainly is one that launched her career. This is the fourth book of hers that I have read. ALL have been excellent, page turning , all- night reads that leave me sleep deprived the next day..... but still wanting more.

Thank you, once again, Ms. Sutcliffe...And, thank you Jove books for keeping this classic in print and available to all new readers as well as her faithful fans.

Very tragic...and romantic
This book was a great read. I love Katherine Sutcliffe and this is a great example of her talent. It's very sad and although you'll be ready to choke the characters into understanding, it is great.

couldn't put it down
I had never read a story that was so enchanting. I sat up all night reading the book. I couldn't but it down. If you haven't read it, it's a must must read.

For the Connoisseur
Of course, you must know and love Mrs. Vreeland to be here in the first place. Given that you do, buy this book. Don't expect a compendium of her suggestions and aphorisms. Do expect a delightful hour's browse. Well worth the money.

What a pretty book!
Any info on D.V. is exciting to me. This pretty book is filled with great photos and listing of all the "Why Don't You" articles created by Diana during her days at Harpers. If you are a fan of Diana Vreeland (as I am) you must add this book to your collection.

it's FABULOUS, daaaaarling!
I LOVED this book. Diana Vreeland's "Why don't you..." suggestions are absolutely wild. They're obviously intended for women of *great* means (why don't you give a diamond bracelet as a gift to the wife of your favorite bandleader?). And some of the suggestions are so out there, I swear she was chewing magic mushrooms. My favorite is the suggestion to put in a private staircase from your bedroom to the library, and have it carpeted with a needlepoint rug that spells out the notes to your favorite tune. My god, you're right, I'll do that tomorrow!!
This book is great to read out loud at a party.

the strange thing is, I am not sure if it's intentionally funny. The author clearly admires Vreeland, and it's a very affectionate book with wonderful photographs.

It is definitely a great glimpse at another era, and at a level of society I can only imagine. To have the kind of money that allows you to do some of these things is beyond my wildest dreams. It's a fun fantasy trip, and a fun retro trip. Five stars.

Wonderful Book, Terrific Format
This book will be at tremendous help to any parent wondering if their child has any sort of speech problem. The book is organized well, broken down by the various sorts of speech problems, so it's quite easy for a lay person to focus on their concerns without having to wade through lots of irrelevant information. I came to the book with the same question: Does my child have a speech problem and this book helped me find the answer and led me to the help we needed. I strongly recommend this book for any parent with that same question. It will help you find your answer and help you see that you are not alone.

wonderful resource book for ALL parents of young children
Does My Child Have a Speech Problem is a terrific recource book for parents, as well as teachers. As both, I find myself referring to it often as my children and their language grow and develop. I am using it in the classroom to further assist my abilities in helping to identify and refer students to the Speech and Language Department. I highly recommend this book to all parents and teachers.

Great resource for all parents and educators!
Wonderful book! This book is a great resource for all parents, not just those concerned about a potential problem in their childs'speech development. Knowing the guidelines for normal speech and language development have reassured me about my childrens' speech patterns. Question and answer format is easy to read and understand. I would recommend this book to everyone!

Imagine Love

A GREAT Read
This is one of Katherine Stone's best novels. The story line is complex and surprising. Of course, we know their is a happy ending for all, but I certainly didn't expect some of the twists and turns along the way.

I especially liked the love story between Emma and Lucas. But all of the interweaved story lines touched my heart.

I also highly recommend Stone's Pearl Moon, my other favorite.

One of the best books I have ever read.
This book was totally magnificent. From beginning to end, it was good, very interesting. I couldn't put it down. It was one of the best books I have ever read. Most books aren't good from beginning to end. I mean it was really good, even from the beginning.

Ten stars for originality, ten stars for emotions.
I just couldn't put this book down. I awaited with baited breath for the next shoe to fall. When will the brother's find each other? Would Claire regain her sight? Who was the killer? And believe me that particular question was a total surprise. What about Sarah's baby? Is it alive and if so, who is she/he? All these questions and more were answered by reading the book. By the end I felt like crying at the very tenderness of the novel. I implore all readers out their to pick up Imagine Love by Katherine Stone and read it. Once you do you will really, truly imagine the power of love.

Acceptable sequel
"Crystal Mask" is the second book in the Echorium Sequence, a hit new fantasy series by British author Katherine Roberts. While it doesn't quite measure up to the first book of the series, it manages to be a solid fantasy story that continues from the prior storyline.

A strange young girl, Shaiala, wanders in the desert, remembering how a herd of young centaurs -- with whom she has lived her whole life -- was kidnapped by frightening "Two Hoofs." Now Shaiala ends up at the Echorium, home of the Singers who can provide laughter, fear, relaxation, and death with their songs. They believe centaurs to be mere myths, but it proves that the girl's mind has been tampered with. And a young trainee named Renn proves to be the key when he understands her "half speech."

The key to Shaiala's experiences is apparently a crystal mask, but she is reluctant to trust any of the "Two Hoofs." And Renn isn't too crazy about Shaiala either -- it's rumored that anyone who understands half-speech will later go insane. He, Shaiala, a desert prince sold into slavery, and two very familiar Singers will venture out -- and confront a vengeful enemy that everyone had thought to be gone.

Perhaps the greatest weakness of this book is that to understand its plot, you need to have read the first book. Old friends and enemies crop up, with cameos by the merlee and a few mentions of quetzal. Readers will also enjoy reading about Rialle, Kherron and Frenn -- who all serve unusual roles in Renn's life. But their existance, and that of the villain, won't make much sense unless you have first read "Song Quest." And the pacing seems a little off, especially when it accelerates during the final pages.

Renn is a good reluctant hero; he doesn't want to leave his home, where he has never really felt comfortable anyhow. But his quest serves to make him more tolerant and mature, and gives him some new insights into his past. Shaiala provides both some fire to the narrative, and some mild comic turns when she kicks people. Roberts keeps readers in the dark for quite some time as to what is going on with Shaiala, and whether the centaurs are real, or a part of her altered memory. And the low-key desert prince Erihan serves as a good damper on Shaiala's frustration and loneliness.

While not quite as good as the first book, "Crystal Mask" is an intriguing fantasy read for kids and adults alike, and offers promise for Roberts' future Echorium books.

A Thrilling Tale
This book was amazing! If you liked the Harry Potter series you'll most assuridly like this book too!

really quite good
i bought this one and the first one just because the covers caught my attention on the back of a shelf...i really didn't expect a great book (or two?)....anyway, this book was perfect as a sequel to song quest....even tho it was like 20 years later...so, yeah? it was just....good?

exceptional
Bravo to Katherine L. Hester.

"Eggs for Young America" reminds me again why I so enjoy reading quality short fiction. Not only does she nail down thought mentalities from the modern South... she brings the scenes in her stories alive with vivid descriptions of detail. Her characters draw you in, her scenes show you around, and the plots force you to empathize with the main characters. After each story you end up thinking, "I know someone like that."

Think: a chatty Flannery O'Conner without the gore.

I can't wait to read what Katherine Hester writes next.

Poignant underclass vignettes
This is a very moving, understated collection of stories reflecting working class lives. Hester chillingly portrays the despondence, angst, lethargy, fantasy of escape, and tragic waste inherent in many blue or no collar lives. A melancholy, but profound set of stories which describe the typically "invisible" lumpen proletariat.

What a collection! What a range!
Great book. The author's range is phenomenal, with memorable, real characters of different ages and walks of life. Although Hester is a woman, she is very effective at presenting situations from the point of view from both her male and female characters. Her stories made me think and I enjoyed discussing them with my friends. I'm looking forward to Ms. Hester's next book!

I loved reading this book
Ocean City Forever took place in Ocean City, Maryland. The main characters are Kate, Justin, Wilton, Grace, and Allegra. The rising action was when Grace was snooping through Wilton's bedroom and he came in and was very protective and he asked her to leave his room and she did. Allegra came over on day while Wilton was getting ready to go on a date with Grace and she tired getting the cocaine from him but he told her "It's not here," Wilton said quickly. "I'll bet." "It's not. It's in the bank, in a safe-deposit box," Wilton said. "I run one of Grace Caywood's beach stands and I have to take the profits to the bank every single day. It was logical and simple to take the coke with me." (Applegate, 52). Then she got very mad and left, so finally Wilton was able to finish getting ready and go to Grace's house to pick her up for their date. Allegra finally got the coke from Wilton and she was trying to find a buyer to buy it. Kate and Justin were finally getting along again after a big dispute and while he was working in his office one day Kate decided to go around and clean the whole entire house. While doing so she found the book Justin was writing and she started to read it. Even though it was fictional it made her very upset because it was about the whole group of "friends" (more or less). She confronted him accidentally, to get over arguing when they were on duty (life guarding), and they had to rescue two kids from a collision accident. While Kate was trying to rescue the one kid she was hit from the behind in the head by one of the ski-doos. She was knocked unconscious and Justin couldn't get to her, because he was too far away and he had the other kid. Mr. Chernak (the owner of the cocaine) took Grace hostage, and tried to get Wilton to come to him with the coke. Kate came out of the coma and when Justin proposed to her she whispered "Yes". Justin pilled away and looked at her, "yes" she said again. "Yes, yes, yes" (191,192). Allegra and Wilton came to Graces rescue with the state police. They arrested Mr. Chernak and his two "buddies". If you like romance books you should read this one!!!!

I thought the book Ocean City Forever was Great
I enjoyed the whole ocean city seriesby Katherine. And was wondering was there another one after Ocean City Forever? Does anyone know? If not I hope Katherine writes another good series like this one soon!

Made my heart burst!!
I have read Katherine Applegates three top series: Boyfriends Girlfriends, Summer, and now Ocean City. The Ocean City series is my favorite. I love all of her series, and she is my favorite author, but the ending to Ocean City Forever made my heart explode!! It made me gitty and happy. I recommend this to any teen looking for a feel-good romance. My only complaint now is that I have nothing to read! I hope she comes out with a new series soon, and until she does, I will be re-reading her books over and over again!! She's the best!!!!

One of the better of the Deryni series
I have mixed feelings about the Deryni series. At it's best it is very authentic, mixing a very detailed pseudo-pagan medievalism with a well thought out magical system. It fails sometimes though in the characterizations and motivations and gets rather gimmicky and embarrassingly self-imitative at times. But this book is not one of those. The books featuring St Camber and his children and the beginning of the Haldane line are generally quite fun and illustrate medieval religious issues in a fantasy format. I haven't come across too many books that deal with the issue of Sainthood in an almost physical way, which is odd because there are so many medieval based fantasy characters out there. Or if I have come across fantasy books featuring the issue of Sainthood they must have been so bad I can't remember any of them. This one is good. All the more so since it studies a character who was both admirable and interesting. And as I remember it, it's been awhile, the plot has some surprising quirks. You might want to read the three previous books that feature Camber himself, or you might want to let this story introduce you to the legend.

More to come?
This was an excellent book. I hope that this won't be the end of this generation of characters in the Deryni series.

The Harrowing Of Gwynedd
I applaud Katherine Kurtz's ability to introduce her characters to all readers so that they feel like family. I was moved to tears by the ending of this novel, yet was left with a smile on my face. I can only say that this is a MUST read for deryni fans, and everyone else on the planet as well. The heirs of Saint Camber is a stunning example of a fantasy series that, in another time, could be true.
