The best brisket I have ever had and I've had good brisket
I have had alot of recipes from Jewish Cook Books and I have cooked alot of briskets in my life, but the Polish brisket with the brown sugar and vinegar is unbelievable. I have made it many times and have never had it turn out bad. I actually double the sauce recipe since everyone loves it so much. YUM!!
... Don't miss this great Jewish cooking. Try it and you'll see. Remember...make that great brisket...the best ever.

Oy! Machia!
I am an A.K. and male , so I can't easily perform the kitchen gymnastics that most cookbooks expect. This delightful and easy to read book, with easy to follow recipes, allows me to really duplicate the flavors that came from my bubbe's kitchen over a half century ago in Brooklyn. All the traditional delights are here, from chicken SOUP to prune-NUTS squares. So far I have prepared over a dozen of the recipes and have found all of them to taste just as I remember. Thank you Mama Leah.

One-stop shopping for all the great Jewish recipes!
This book has all of the wonderful Jewish recipes, including Chicken Soup, Challah, Blintzes, Kugel recipes, many poultry, fish, meat, and vegetable recipes. I own several Jewish cookbooks, but this is the only one with practical recipes. Everything in the book is generally easy to prepare, and comes out wonderfully. I made the Chicken Soup last night. I would especially recommend this book to people who are just beginning to cook Jewish food, or those wishing they had their grandmother's "secret" recipes. Also, it's a small book (yet packed with good information), so it won't take up a lot of space in your kitchen like most cookbooks. Love it, love it, love it!

The Mexican Gourmet
This is the ultimate authentic Mexican food cookbook. Not only are the recipes easy to follow they also have wonderful, enticing pictures and a rich history of which part of Mexico the recipe comes from and how many dishes originated. It has recipes from sauces and snacks to drinks, deserts, and holiday specialties. This cookbook has wonderful hard to find recipes and includes many basic recipes in addition to the many specialty dishes. If you can only afford one Mexican cookbook or only have space for one - this is the cookbook to choose. I use it all year round and it is my favorite cookbook.

the best I've seen
Forget the Beautiful Cookbooks... this (much too-)short series from Thunder Bay publishers -- one Mexican, one Italian, and one Chinese book -- is the best of the genre. It is at least as attractive as the Beautiful Cookbook series, and comprises a far more serious study of ethnic cooking. It concedes not one inch to Western kitchens at the expense of its authenticity (and for that reason may not alway be practical, but I don't care), and includes many abundant and enlightening discussions of the customary use of ingredients and traditional recipes. I like cookbooks -- I own a lot, and I read them a lot. These three are my most prized. I suppose this is partially because they are now out of print, which is a great shame; the series ended after only three entries. It would have been great to see what they could do with some other venerable cuisines like, say, French and Indian. The ones that do exist, however, are real food-lovers books.

Fantastic collection of recipes and resources.
This is one of the very best cookbooks I have ever discovered! It is as much an enclycopedia as a cookbook - offering much information on unfamiliar ingredients, utensils and techniques. I have learned more about Mexican cooking with this book than with any other. The recipes are authentic - some seem exactly as I have tasted in Mexico. The photos and layout are very attractive and easy to read. Would recommend this cook book to anyone who really wants to learn about Mexican cooking.

This story is a delight!
My 2 year old loves this book. The artwork is wonderful, the animals are so beautifully drawn and dressed and the story is a delight! It's repititious, which is important for young readers and the story is so endearing. It gives you the "warm fuzzies" every time you read it.

Another...KISS!
As a tiny little girl, my mom used to read this to me. (Until I finally memeorized it by myself!) I don't know if she remembers it, but I sure do. It was one of my favorite books. And now that I have a little boy, I want him to know this sweet story as well.

TEACHER'S FAVORITE!!!
I READ THIS BOOK TO MY 5 YEAR OLD SON AND WE LOVED IT. ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS "MOTHER, MOTHER, I WANT ANOTHER" AND HE NOW COMES AND KISSES ME. NOW I RECOMMEND IT TO ALL MY STUDENTS.

book of choice for 4 year old grandaughter
After my grandaughter received "Hey Willie, see the Pyramids" as a gift, we became fascinated with Maira Kalman's books. Our most recent acquisition is Sayonara Mrs. Kackleman. The naive illustrations are wonderful and plentiful enough to spend a good amount of time on each page. We like to fill in the thoughts of all the characters. This has been her "bedtime book of choice" for quite a while now. We now dream of going to Pajan to see the Japansneeze!

Encapsulated creativity
Maira Kalman does a wonderful job of capturing her reader's imagination and eye. She has a very playful graspe of the English language. Her style is envigorating. Children and adults are captivated by the rhythmic storytelling. The colorful illustrations make it hard to turn the pages while the text spurs the reader on to do just that. This is an entirely delightful children's book that will give readers the travel bug.

This book is really funny.
This is a story about two kids who take a trip to Japan. The writing style is really humorous, and yet it is not not silly. It uses puns and a wonderful descriptive style in ways that are really original. My son (age 3) really enjoys this story, and so do his older cousins. The illustrations are also interesting and fun to look out. This is a good book to read out loud at bedtime.

If you want to laugh, read this.
This is possibly one of the funniest books I've ever read. Although I think it is categorized as a mystery, I guessed the ending about three-quarters of the way through. It didn't matter. By the time I got there, my sides ached from laughing. Angie, the heroine, starts out to be a sad insecure woman. By the time it's over, she's self-assured and confident. I loved her! Can't help but say she reminded me of me, insecurities and all. If you're looking for a whodunit that'll keep you guessing until the last page, this is not for you, but if you're looking for a book that'll make you laugh and smile until the end, you'll enjoy this one. I guarantee it!

I retract my original review
I recently reread this book and I realized that I took it way too seriously. And I must say that Ms. Herndon has a wonderful sense of humor. I would definitely recommend this book if you're looking for a fun, light read.

Excellent novel
This book is very funny. It is easily read and quite humorous. The characters are real, thus making the story that much more enjoyable. I highly recommend it

a good balance of reading vs. seeing
Mondrian's work is, in my opinion, best appreciated in context. He didn't simply arrive at perpendicular lines as form overnight, and this book demonstrates how Mondrian evolved as an artist over time. The text is highly readable, never too lofty, and quite fascinating at times. Those who are not entirely familiar with Mondrian's career or who want insight into his vision as an artist would do best to consult this text and its many color plates.

THIS IS A BOOK TO STUDY !
Reading this is a must for any artist .

What can I say but I was told to read this and am so glad I was. Some of the best advise I ever got .

TO read the book and what is in it !

review of Mondrian - Structures in Space
A good overall introductory-level book of Mondrian's work. Lots of full-color illustrations, many full page, and relatively short text make this book easy for the reader who is developing an interest in Mondrian's work.

The author places Mondrian's work within the context of the times it was made, discussing concurrent developments and how other artist's work was influential on Mondrian, and how his work in turn influenced other artists. Several illustrations reproduce the work of these other artists.

The text is both biographical and developmental, as the various periods of Mondrian's work are all discussed, from his earliest Hague school-influenced landscapes through his Cubist inspired works to his mature Neo-Plastic paintings.

The photographic reproductions are excellent, and the text is informative without being scholarly. For anyone needing an introduction to Mondrian's work and career, this is the book for you.

Loved it!
Marie Osborne-Perry has done it. She has combined fantasy fiction with erotica and made it work. I loved the character of Odette and her brazen ways. I also liked the backstory provided as well. A really good read if you're in the mood for some escapism!!!!

"Excellent Premise"
Loved the unusual premise in combining fantasy and erotica in this story. 'Very Nice!'

The heroine Odette -- sexy little minx with many talents...Legend has it that any man who hold the 'swan mantle' enslaves the fair maiden, but what happens when it (the swan mantle) falls into the hands of a woman???

The characters in "RAVISHED WINGS" by Maria Osborne Perry, are fun and exciting, the dialogue entertaining, and the plot 'EXCELLENT!' A thrilling combination...

Great fiction and erotica!
Having been a fan of Maria's stories since EROTIC DREAMS AND SATIN SHEETS was released, I wasn't surprised that her second book RAVISHED WINGS was also a winner. Odette, the heroine, is another example of the sexy seductive submissive who can defeat the blackest hearted villian with one hand and pleasure her man with in ways most men just dream about with the other. This type of heroine is fast becoming a hallmark of Perry's writing. I recommend RAVISHED WINGS to all fans of erotic fantasy, and eagerly await more from this talented lady.

A book for beginner ballerinas
I read this book to my 3 year neice who had just recently been to her first dance class. She later mimicked what she had learned from the book - pointing her toes, first & second position, etc. All in all - a fun read with very nice pictures. My five year old nephew was also interested in the book.

I am Maria teresa meloni
I wish to thank all the readers that have reviewed my book! and amazon.com for the great service that provides for all of us. The making of this book was great fun and i would like to write something if I can. The art work has been done in a real ballet class, the children I have personnally hand picked in London UK and there was a great woman, exactly the same you can see painted as the teacher that for the love and passion for the art of ballet, with out any monetary compensation, held the class to allowed me to sketch and photograph the children.... thank you all Maria Teresa Meloni

I love this book.
The thing about this book that catches my attention is the illustrations. You feel what Rosie feels and you see what is happening so clearly. It is a great book and my daughter loves it.

The unluckiest Padre ever?
Immaculate research and superb translations from Spanish archive material turn this into both a scholarly research vehicle and a concise history of the Spanish colonies and the Treasure Fleets.
A good part of the narrative is in the words of a Spanish Padre sent out to Chile to minister to the colonists; this tells us first-hand of the vast mountains of silver that were being exported from South America, and of the nepotism, greed, dishonesty and cowardice that seems to be the product of any get-rich-quick scheme - and Spain had more than its fair share in the 16th & 17th Centuries. The rest of the story is supported by quotes from sailors and court officials, while Mr.Horner fleshes out the story with historical facts and some surmise - the many notes are detailed as appendix and are not intrusive, while there is other useful information contained in other appendices.

Our Padre seems unusually unlucky in being shipwrecked twice, and on the way home the fleet is ambushed in sight of Cadiz and he, along with two ships and 4 million pesos (38 cartloads!) are captured in a brilliantly described battle that Hornblower would be proud of.

However, he lives to tell the tale; his memoirs are so detailed that we have a better idea of the actual wealth contained in the treasure fleet than the manifests admit - also the position of the wrecks is so well decribed that Mr.Horner was able to locate the sites and recover valuable artifacts (and of course, silver).

As a bonus, we are treated to a superb description of the daringly successful 1657 British attack on the treasure fleet holed-up in Santa Cruz, in which the whole Spanish fleet was destroyed, with the loss of no ships and only 60 men on the British side. This effectively crippled Spanish hopes of sea-rule and bankrupted Seville.

The final chapter warns us of the perils of dealing with the red-tape and gung-ho journalism that inevitably accompanies any salvage, not to mention the thievery when there is treasure involved.

A very worthwhile read. ****

Shipwreck: A Saga of Sea Tragedy and Sunken Treasure
Mr Horner does a good job of describing the attempts of a Spanish monk to get back to his homeland and the ememy attacks that he is forced to endure on his voyage. The descriptions that he gives of his modern day salvage adventures is also very interesting. A good read.

A well researched and historically informative work
Set in Virginia, Florida, Ecuador and the Bahamas, there are no clear winners in this story, and Horner aptly entitles one of his chapters "Treasure is Trouble", something befitting the 17th-century Spaniards who met a tragic fate on the waters of Ecuador and the Bahamas, as well as the modern-day treasure hunters whose greed has brought them nothing but "trouble". The exception remains Dave Horner whose goal was clearly the quest for historical truth and the dissemination of valuable historical and archaeological data, something he achieved with eloquence. A captivating book and a lesson to be learned... again
