A Great Book for Children
A Fairy Tale For Atemis is a great book for children of all ages. The children in the book remind us of people we know and make the book fun and interesting. It's a book children can relate too and still has that fairy tale quality. This book is also great because it has a story line that teenagers can appreciate. I read the book and it kept me entertained. I would highly recommend this book to all people who love a good fairy tale.

Every young person will see someone they know
This book makes you laugh, no matter your age. I'm a grandmother, but this book brought back my memories of school friends, teachers, and neighbors. If you don't know people as wonderfully eccentric, loving, devious and kind hearted as these, you are missing something.

Every child will be able to see someone they know in this wonderful modern fantasy of Artemis and her friends getting to know themselves and each other. It makes me want to know what happens next. I want to know more about these wonderful kids.

A great book for parents and children to read together. I'm would think 8-14 year olds will really enjoy it and it would give parents and children a lot to share with each other. The situations are more realistic than "Harry Potter", the characters are nicer and not as devious as "Aretemis Fowl", I wouldn't think twice about handing this book to a young person. I hope there is a second.

What a wonderful first book.

The slime under the stone
"Fefu and Her Friends," by Maria Irene Fornes, is a witty and disturbing contemporary play. A key image from the play occurs early on, when one character talks about the experience of lifting up a stone and seeing the slime, fungus, and worms underneath. "Fefu" is about peeling back the gentile facades of life and seeing the unpleasant decay that lies beneath.

The play, which has an all-female cast, takes place at an elegant New England country house where the characters of the title have assembled. As the women gather to talk in various groupings, Fornes dissects such topics as gender roles, marriage, and educational conventions. Stirrings of insanity, violence, heterosexual frustration, and repressed lesbian desire contribute to the play's unsettling atmosphere. Overall, a memorable work from a grand master of contemporary theater.

feminism with booze and guns
this book is a nearly forgotten classic of 70's theatrical avant garde; it is so good to see it in print. Read it. It's a hoot!

Fundamental teachings about Saint Mary
This is the most complete book I've ever read about the Mother of God. Saint Alphonsus Liguori analyses with great detail and precision, but always using a perfectly clear language, the decisive role of Saint Mary in the salvation of human souls and her essential contribution to keep them away from sin and eternal condemnation. It is deplorable that the post-Vatican II modernist Church has almost forgotten these fundamental teachings.

Excellent Read for Those Devoted to Mary
This is one of the richest and most vivid Marian texts I have read in a long time. I highly recommend this text to anyone interested in Marian theology or anyone devoted to the Rosary and Marian piety. It is a classic.

It includes meditations on the mysteries of the Rosary, sermons on the primary liturgical feasts of Mary and prayers to Mary. It is thorough. Each expositional section concludes with a prayer and example.

If you enjoyed Thomas A Kempis' Imitations of Christ, you will love this book.

My son's favorite book!
Our 2-year old son just adores this sweet cheery book. Though he owns about 200 books already (Mom worked in publishing) he has his favorite top five (that we read over and OVER again). This brightly colored, large photo book is easy for him to love. He relates to the little boy getting ready for his day, simply eating Cheerios for breakfast to playing at the park - what more can a 2-year old want! The subject matter is very simple and familiar for toddlers. The pictures are large and colorful of a real little boy, the type is simple for early readers. The bilingual format is an added bonus.

We can't wait for another book from author Maria Tzanakakis!

A Bilingual Favorite
This book is a great introduction for babies and toddlers to hear both Greek and English sentences read aloud as they view the colorful photographs of other children. It is a nice size book and the sturdy pages can put up with alot of wear and tear.

This book has become one of the favorites of my two year old. There have been many times when I would find her sitting by herself studying the photographs, and saying some of the sentences aloud in either Greek or English. I feel this book helps to give a child a head start in learning a second language.
I highly recomend this book.

The Greaseless Guide to Car Care
This is a great book if you know next to nothing about cars but you own one. Very well explained and not a struggle to read for the beginner. Gave me a handle on terms and what they mean and how to find your way around the repair shop. Should be curriculum for life skills class for everyone.

car care for novices and the uninformed
I'm sorry to see this book out of print. I purchased copies for each of my children and myself. Jackson clearly explains the essentials you need to know in order to talk to your mechanic and understand what is important and what is not. A must for those of us who just want our cars to run with as little personal involvement as possible.

The ancient story of the great deluge from Karina legend
To the stories of the great flood from the Bible, the Epic of Gilgamesh, and the classical myth of Deucalion and Pyrrha, we can add this Karina version of the deluge story. The Karina, called the Carib Indians by their Spanish conquerors, are the descendants fo the the people that occupied eastern Venezula from the Orinoco River to the coast. "The Great Canoe" tells the story of how, a long time ago, Kaputano, Dweller of the Heavens, appeared to the Karina and warned them that a great rain would fall and water would cover the earth. Kaputano urged the Karina to join him in building canoes in which to escape the flood, but only four couples believed him. This is their story.

Almost as interesting is the quest of Maria Elena Maggi, who wanted to set the story of Noah's Ark in the New World, only to discover various Karina versions of the deluge story. While Maggi worked on weaving the story into the world of the Karina, artist Gloria Calderon studied the fauna and flora of the Caribbean region to work into her gorgeous illustrations. Orignally published in Venezelua as "La Gran Canoa," this English version is translated by Elisa Amando. An afterword will be of little interest to young children, but teachers and parents will enjoy learning about how Maggi and Calderon immersed themselves in their research for this story and the various antecedents for both the legend and the artwork.

I am putting together a Comparative Mythology course and stories like "The Great Canoe," which can be compared and contrasted with myths and legends from other cultures around the world, are perfect introductory material for such a class. However, for the young readers for whom this book is intended, simply listening to the story and looking at the detailed pictures, will be enough.

A tribal tale retold for preschool readers ages 2 to 5
The Great Canoe: A Karina Legend is a tribal tale retold for preschool readers ages 2 to 5 and superbly illustrated by Gloria Calderon. The Karina were a tribal people living along the banks of the Orincoco River in what is now Venezuela and were known as great navigators, traders and warriors termed "Caribs" by the Spaniards. In the story, Kaputano, dweller of the Heavens, appears to the Karina people and warns them that a great rain would come and water would cover the earth. Kaputano urges the people to join him in building a canoe, but only four couples agree to help. They built a huge canoe and bring two of each kind of animal on board with them, plus a seed from every plant. Just as they finish their work a huge storm begins and a flood of water covers even the tallest trees drowning all the humans and animals left outside the boat. After many days the water subsides and Kaputano realizes that the survivors cannot live in such a flood ravaged world so he creates marshes, rivers, mountains and trees for them. The Great Canoe is a welcome and highly recommended addition to family, day-care center, preschool, and community library fairytale, mythology, and folklore collections.

Easily Read, Wonderfully Written
Heart Magic inspired me to open my heart and mind to what is necessary in keeping a relationshiphealthy, happy, and alive! It is broken down into quick, easy-to-read chapters with "real people" examples for better understanding. Explore the "Principles of Partnership" and learn how to get along on a day to day basis from this insightful book!

We all need to know
Maria has done an enormous service to everyone with her book, Heart Magic: Keeping Love Alive & Well. There are very few people that have not been affected by relationship either from their parents or from their own partners. There are more than enough books, websites and articles about finding their mate or partner, but not enough information out there on how to keep love alive and well. If we don't have the proper tools to maintain a relationship how can we all survive on the larger global issues? Maria gives very practicle easy to use Principles with Do's and Don'ts for a healthy relationship. Her case histories make it easy for most people to identify with their own experiences. I recommend her book to my clients and to anyone that has been, or will be in a relationship to read. Thank you for your time, Sy Cohn, MFT
