The True Story Of The 3 Little Pigs
I really enjoy this book. I think that it is pretty funny. My favorite part in this book is when the 3rd little pig calls the police and they arrest the wolf because they thought that he was trying to eat the little pig for supper.

A Great kids Book the the adult can love also
I loved this take on the "Three Little Pigs" as did my kids though for different reasons. My daughter enjoys this book because it is a humorous Wolf's versions of the "Three Little Pigs" her favorite children's classic. I like it because it presented a great sarcastic though honest parady of contemparary Media and American culture. You see according to the wolf, He really didn't mean to blow down the little pig's houses it was all an honest mistake, and the part about him being a big bad wolf? Just a media creation to jazz up his trial and sell more newspapers. Its rare to find a childrens book now a days that are even a little bit creative but this one is pure genius both in it's simplicity but also in the way it portrays the world around us. An outstanding childrens book for the whole family.

Want to Know The True Story of the Three Little Pigs?
A funny book told from the wolf's point of view.

Note to the Teacher: Good book for a mini-lesson to teach benchmark on Point of View.

Little Town at the Crossroads
Title:Little Town at the Crossroads Author:Maria D. Wilkes Little Town at the Crossroads is a great book for grades 3-6. I recommend this book because I enjoyed and I couldn't put it down. Children and adults alike will love this book.

Great Continuation!
During the first book, Caroline was portrayed as a little girl who tried desperately to help her mother all that she could after the death of her father. Now, Caroline's gained a little vibrance, as she still tries to help Mother, but also wants to have fine and pretty dresses, instead of the hand-me-downs from older sister Martha. I love this book through-and-through, and I'm sure that you will too!

Great!
This book is very good. You can really get interasted. Caroline Quiner, the main character in this book, along with her two older brothers, Joseph and Henry, her older sister, Martha, her younger sister, Eliza, her younger brother, Thomas, and her mother, Charlotte, have a lot of great times in this book. Caroline and her family open a Christmas trunk from grandma and grandpa Tucker sent from Boston. (They are mother's parents.) They also get ready for their neighbor Ms. Stodderd's maple frolic. This book is excellent!

useful advice, quick read, essential for all film lovers
If you need sound advice, this is the place to go.
Caine illustrates his principle with amusing anecdotes.
Even if you're not interested in film acting, this is a delightful read filled with interesting tidbits about star
like Stallone.

My only gripe is I wish it were twice as long.

A Wonderful Treasure!
An invaluable guide to working in film. The right mixture of imparting knowledge, and wisdom in an enteraining way. I literally could not put this book down until I had finished it.

Wonderful reading! Absolutely remarkable!
In one night I read this book wanting to put myself in the shoes of Michael Caine and seeing his perspective on movie making. Many times I have sat with other actors and filmmakers to gain an insight and to know their passion as a thespian. Michael Caine is a talented individual and what an experience it must have been for the people who had a chance to be part of this two-day class which was transcribed in this book. Thank you Michael Caine and Maria Aitken for releasing this book.

If you are a passionate, disciplined actor who would like to learn several pointers from this professional, buy this book.

Look at this as an inexpensive tool to improve yourself as a thespian. Wonderful reading! Highly recommended!

JUSTICE PREVAILS!!
The author does a superb job of bringing the reader all the details of the gruesome murder of Pennsylvania Attorney Marty Dillon.... June 2, 1976 Marty and his friend, Dr. Stephen Scher, went hunting.........according to Dr. Scher, Marty got killed while chasing a porpupine, when he tripped and his gun went off.... Before two years were gone by, the doctor married Marty's widow...the town became a little suspicious, and Marty's parents always believed something was "fishy"......... It took 20 years of battling the system, but at last Marty's body was exhumed .... the autopsy showed that the wounds were not found to be self-inflicted and his death was finally ruled a homicide......... I don't read true-crime novels as I find them too gory, gritty and disturbing..........however, while visiting my Mom, and forgetting to bring the book I was reading, I looked through her large pile..........since she's not a reader of fiction, my selection was limited........] This book was a quick and compelling read...My heart broke for Marty's parents......I suggest you read it yourself and draw your conclusions..........as for mine, I'm so glad that our great legal system still (for the most part) works!

A MUST READ!!! MARIA HAS DONE HER HOMEWORK
I read this book on a bus trip from Baltimore to (ironically) Montrose, and as a former resident of Montrose, I must say that this book was a joy to read. Although I was not a resident of the town in 1976, I have spoken to enough people that knew about the situation Maria has captured the true feeling of this town and their opinion. Yes, Larry Dillon did pass away in 1998, but he lived to see that justice was served. Although, poor Jo has to live with the fact that Stephen Scher was released from prison in 1999 and is a free man once again. I guess the system CAN forgive and forget!

You Won't Be Able to Put This Book Down!
Without a doubt, this is a gripping story. Maria Eftimiades has written a concise and facinating account of a person who thought he really got away with the perfect crime. It is a relief to see that justice finally prevailed. This is one of the few books to give some idea what it costs for a top defense lawyer. There are no words to accurately describe Pat Dillon Scher's actions. I highly recommend this book!

great for older children, maybe not for younger kids
This book is a modern classic! The author is an excellent children's book writer. Older children really enjoy this!

Younger children can become scared of the dentist after this book. Save it for the older ones.

I remember it like it was yesterday..
On Friday afternoon, I was talking to my younger sister at a Denny's restaurant, when, out of nowhere, the storyline image of this book came into mind. I am currently seventeen years old, and even though it was more than ten years ago, I was still able to vividly recall to my sister (who is thirteen) all of the wonderful images of the fox, donkey, and alligator that I had enjoyed so long ago. She also began remembering different parts of the book since I had shared it with her when we were younger, and we excitedly spoke about the clever dentist and his antics.

This is one book that has stuck out in my mind as a childhood favorite (even though I still am somewhat of a kid) and I'm sure your child will come to love and cherish this book as well.

A wonderfully detailed story
William Stieg always has such gorgeous prose and such detailed pictures. My son loves seeing exactly how Dr. DeSoto pulls out the fox's tooth with a winch, how their are two sets of stairs for the big animals and little animals etc. The pictures of the little mouse working with his dental tools inside a cow's mouth, the fox's mouth are so funny and interesting it just draws you in. The story is very engaging, funny, creative and teaches a lesson to boot! This is one of our favorite books.

This collection is more comprehensive
I just thought I would clarify that this collection is more comprehensive than The Selected Poetry of Rainer Maria Rilke, also translated by Stephen Mitchell. Ahead of All Parting includes all poems in the aforementioned book and adds many more.

A Quiet Light
This is one of the most beautiful books i have ever had the pleasure of reading, especially with Stephen Mitchell's translation. Rilke's "Letters to a Yound Poet" is also translated by Mr. Mitchell, and his translation is as pure as Rilke's own German.

Rilke is a quiet light. I believe, he realizes, in some measure, his oneness with God. His table of quietness absorbed me. Although, i may not know what Rilke was actually experiencing when he wrote, but what I feel is the vastness and inclusiveness of God, the patience of God, the love of God, the "closer than breathing and nearer than hands and feet" of God.

One day, someone, who was familiar with Rilke, saw me reading this book, and mentioned that some of Rilke's books were read at funerals. I laughed; i hadn't heard that before. Yet, i can understand why this would be so. There is a sadness in his writings. But the death of which he speaks is not the kind of death that needs an undertaker; but the kind that says to "die daily" to our claims, suggestions, fixations, and opinions of "this world." It is when we die to universal beliefs that we become the quiet light of which Rilke speaks.

If you haven't discovered Rilke, this is the book
I've read virtually all of the Rilke translations (discovered him browsing in a library in '73 and haven't stopped reading him)and this one truly shines. What is most amazing about Rilke is his ability to make his perceptions your perceptions. Rilke is not easy, especially the later poems, but like all great literature, lanscapes keep opening for more exploration. He really is "the poet's poet." You might start by thumbing to the middle of the book and read the "uncollected poems." I also recommend Rilke's one novel, "The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge," by the same translator (a first person narrative of the life of an impoverised poet in turn of the century Paris) --surreal, intensely psychological, artful.

great format, poor reproductions
The format of this book is wonderful -- the pages unfold to become full 20x22" images. This is a perfect size for a poster or teaching aid -- IF the image quality weren't so poor! I wanted to like this book, really... but I've seen Klimt's work in person as well as in many other books, and the reproductions here are just so dull and grainy. Rich violets appear brown; the firey red hair in several pieces looks very subdued. "The Kiss", shown on the front cover, shows the couple with skin that is positively green. And the golds that Klimt is famous for, while I appreciate that they must be difficult to photograph, just do not come across.

I would have gladly paid more for this book if the publishers could have reproduced it better. It is obvious they intended this to be a picture book -- there are literally only two pages of writing -- so it would make sense to give the best reproductions possible! Even using a glossy paper instead of the dull matte finish would have given a better presentation.

If you are interested in truly appreciating Klimt and his work, I would recommend Taschen's posterbook for large, good quality reproductions. I also would recommend "Silver, Gold, and Precious Stones" from the Adventures in Art Series. This is geared toward a younger audience, but it beautifully laid out and presented, and actually uses a gold finish on the areas with gold leaf (nice touch!).

Open your eyes . . .
I had no knowledge of this artist before receiving this book as a Christmas gift. What a wonderful, enlightening book!

The book has large plates of about 40 works, and smaller black and white prints of some others (including a number that were destroyed in a 1945 fire). The contrast between the exquisitely expressive faces, drawn with the precision of a renaissance master, and the wild, unrestrained clothing and background is captivating.

The author provides a good biography and helpful insights into the allegorical interpretation of the various works. A real bargain here.

luxuriously recreated prints from one of the masters!
klimt's work is endlessly fascinating... its eroticism, its mythological references, its composition. klimt captures the power and symbolism of color and shape in a way that is unique amongst artists in the canon. his images are not merely pictures of women (and a few men), but stories with complicated layers of meaning. all this delicate beauty could be easily lost in printing, but this book has somehow managed to preserve it, and it is amazing! the text gives biographical and historical context, which is always helpful, and even ventures into analysis -- i enjoy knowing other people's perspectives, because it helps me to read deeper into what i'm seeing. all the master works are here, as well as many treasures that are often overlooked. if you are interested in art nouveau, art history, symbolism in art, and/or art history you really should own this book. believe me, it is well worth the price -- i wasn't expecting much for (the price), and would have willingly paid much more. i wish i had it in hardback though...

La Dietrich
If you were a fan of Dietrich and were allowed to own only ONE book about this woman, then this should be the book to own. To reiterate another reviewer's thought -- it is EXQUISITE.

Am amazing book!
This is a dream of a book. Full of glorious photos and facts. I highly reccommend this to all Dietrich and film fans. All public figures should be the subject of a book like this.

Photographs of Beauty
A delicacy! The best book of photographs I have seen on Dietrich and a compendium of beauty, not only hers but all that was created through and with her. A must have book.

incredibly brilliant book
When I read I dogear pages with especially interesting quotes on them, & in this book I dogeared almost every page...& on each page I can't tell now what quote I was dogearing for, because everything he says is so amazing. This book is so beautiful with its ingenius motion through psychology, architecture, poetry, & on & on. Of all the books in my personal library, this is one of the very most highly recommended from me to any reader. I am sure that no one was mistaken in hailing Bachelard as one of the 20th century's greatest philosophers.

Fascinating Exploration of Spaces, Psychological and Real
This is a must-read for ANYONE interested in the arts, architecture, home buying, renovation, interior designing. Along with his in-depth exploration of how spaces work within our minds, he leads to beautiful poetic passages that will leave you breathless no matter how well read you are. After reading this book you will no longer think of the world around you as a vacuum to be rushed through. Everywhere has meaning.

A beautiful lyrical explorative journey
How do we associate emotional relationship to intimate spaces? This is the basic premise of this book. Gaston Bachelard unleashes our imaginations as he helps us to explore these feelings with an journey through our house - a sacred place that holds dear to most of us, a place that we grew up, a place that is full of memories both from our childhood and our present existence.

From the cellar to the attic, Bachelard also shows that these fantasies are not only common to all of us, but also can be viewed in a greater context and reflected in literary works, poetries, philosophies, etc. Also, these kinds of primal response also can be reflected in our relationship with natural spatial objects like nests and shells. It also deals with the metaphysical question of outside and inside.

This is a book that is full of philosophical treasures and wonders!

A Taste of Old Cuba
I cannot tell how much I love this book. When i first bought it i took it to my grandmother to share it with her. She got misty eyed reading it, she said that it reminded her of her mother cooking for her and her 11 brothers & sisters in Cuba - there were recipes in the book that she had not had since she left Cuba in the 60s. When she passed, she took some of the best cooking with her. The book gives me recipes that taste exactly the way i remember them - never fails. The following Christmas i bought 9 copies for my family's 3rd generation women so that we don't forget, and have since bought several more as gift whenever the subject of good Cuban recipes has come up. Buy the book, i promise you won't need anything else!

Gastronomic Retrospection
This is not only a gastronomic delight, but an extraordinary trip through old, but good, memories, glorious traditions and an unfortunately bygone way of life. To revisit places I've loved and relive experiences I thoroughly enjoyed as a child, like crabbing at Paso Malo, was an absolute joy.
This book, a present from my daughter, is one of the most memorable father's day present I recall.

Even a Gringa Can Cook Good Cuban Food
Growing up as an Irish/German decendant I had never had black beans until I was in my late 20s. My best friend's mother introducted me to delicious Cuban food. I am now happily cooking for her nephew and his daughters almost as well as his Tia and his mother. Forget meat and potatoes - I'd rather have Arroz con Pollo and so would my children.
