you'll never cook the same again
I too would've never bought this book based on the title. Lucky me, a friend gave it as a present. Ok, favorite recipe: the roast chicken with a pierced lemon in its cavity is so tasty, I dare you pass up on the skin! I make it all the time. Oh, and it works with a small orange just as well. Then there's the polenta recipes, and the chicken pot pie...

God bless this woman because she loves food and finds ways to prepare delicious food that's healthy. She's experimented plenty in order to deliver flavorful recipes for dishes that are low in fat, sodium and calories. I think anyone who loves food and cooking should own this book. And anyone who's on a restricted diet should definitely try this cookbok.

Finally, I have to say that I think Maria Robledo is the best food photographer in the business. It's impossible to look at her pictures and not feel like making and/or eating the food in them. It's no wonder that they've teamed up again. Bravo to both women on an excellent cookbook!

lousy title, fabulous cookbook
I am an avid cookbook collector and cook, and I am not kidding when I say that this is one of my most often used and enjoyed cookbooks. It was given to me by a dear friend, I would never have bought a low-calorie cookbook on my own. This is not a great low-calorie cookbook, it is a great cookbook, period.

There are wonderful recipes for a home smoked salmon, a great Irish Soda Bread, and a few brilliant ideas for duck that have become favorites in my house.

I love her general approach to eating. She does not promote the use of "diet" ingredients like margarine or artificial sweeteners, but encourages judicious use of the real thing. She has tested the recipes carefully to determine just how much of the "fattening" ingredients are necessary to make a dish, like cassoulet, for example, taste good without the outrageous amount of fat that is usual for that dish. She also provides nutritional info for each recipe.

My only concern about this book is that the only readers who are likely to look at it (because of the title) are dieters, and that's a shame because it's likely to be appealing to a much broader readership is they only knew to check it out!

Must have reference
A excellent overview of the field of electronics reliability, coupled with insight into how the AT&T (now Lucent) team developed their revolutionary model of electronics reliability ( i.e. if an electronic component doesn't fail early during its service life, it probably never will) that changed the nature of warranties in telecommunications equipment, make this a must have book for anyone in electronics engineering. Failure Rate (or Hazard Function) Data, and accelerated life models are useful for today's practitioners

Top of the pack
Thoroughly recommend! The book show the deep insight of the authors/editors into the technologies, as well as the business implications of reliability engineering.

Beethoven: Man of His Word: Undisclosed Evidence for His Immortal Beloved

touching!
This book has touched me well, actually beethoven,... what interest me in this book was that I played piano and I have always like beethoven,.... His music has a deeper feeling that compare to mozart to me,... mozart always has lighter tone in his,... Anyway,...that is why I found this book and the history about his life really touchy and it is correct that this book has information that I have never known about beethoven,... overall, I think it is a great story and I think if you want to know about beethoven this is a great book,... I play and hear his music in a different way now,...

Enlightening!
This book is excellent. Ms. Altman deals only with the facts and does a great job digging in to show why her information is correct. The other aulthors have done a lot of embellishing, but Ms. Altman obviously worked hard to find the truth. It's well worth the money. You'll learn things about this composer that you never knew before. Thank you for bringing a fresh new concept to nonfiction, Gail -- TRUTH!

Absolutely hilarious
One of the warmest and funniest books I've ever read. Brought back my own college days. I loved the show business aspect, too.

Margo is magnificent!
Ciaccia has hid it big in this raucous, rambling, rambunctious romp through her characters' salad days. Way to go!

Sensitivity
A poet's insight is an ability to perceive the whispers of the soul and quiet sounds from within. The Bodies We Were Loaned was an inspiration that helped this busy and preoccupied reader feel, see, sense, and remember the presence of his own soul. The sensitivity of Maria Terrone is expressed through her use of imagery, sound, and rhythm in this much-needed book.

Poetry of Flesh and Spirit
The poems in Maria Terrone's "The Bodies We Were Loaned" blend anguish and hope, childlike innocence and a clear-eyed adult awareness of life's starkest realities, and spiritual longing and a joyous appreciation of the earth's gifts. Infused with imagery that awakens all the senses, not just the visual, the poems show an aching appreciation of the glory, as well as the pain, that accompanies our mortality.

A brother¿s new best friend
I got this book for Christmas from my sister and now I'm a believer. After moving into my own place after college a couple of years ago I have struggled to find new things to cook, the days of raman noodle must pass. The only problem being that most of my attempts at cooking have come out looking more like my childhood mud pies then the pictures on the box. Now that I have made one or two of these simple meals for friends and a very impressed girlfriend I wonder why other cook books aren't so simply written. In the end I have to say get this book.

A user friendly cook book.
Quite a few cook books that I have purchased in the past, have been impossible for me to use, as my skills as a cook, are only basic, and their recipes difficult to follow. This book however is user friendly, with delicious results. I am sure these nuns must have considered her a "god send".

Kids Love It!
I'm a school teacher and the students love listening to the poems in this book. They giggle so much when I read it to them and they always want to hear it over and over again.

from Tolin Tolin Tolan
I grew up listening to these poems which Charo Cofre and Hugo Arevalo put music to. The title of the review is the title of the LP me and my brother owned. I have imagined all the characters, from the paper king -that made me reflect on how vulnerable we are (anybody can tear us apart, or hurt us because we are like paper), to the song that explains why we see seeds and ants together. Don Crispin was very much like the character I had envisioned, same as the army of seeds. The poems do not exhaust in insight as I have grown older. Like the Little Prince, I appreciate having listened and played and imagined all these worlds through these poems. They follow the path of the great fables.

Desperate Remedies: The Tragedy of Santa Maria, California
Published in Hardcover by Atlas Signs (1997)
Author: Les Conrad
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

Wow
I have lived in Santa Maria for 17 years, and have never heard anything about all of this. I knew that a toxic waste landfill existed in Casmalia, but i never knew that the drinking water was contaminated.

Tragedy in Santa Maria
This book chronicles in engaging fashion the terrible and true story of how a city's water supply was contaminated when multiple measures to protect the citizens failed. It presents an interesting story on a personal level of one man who recognized a problem and did a tremendous amount of work on his own to bring it to the attention of elected officials. In this sense, it is a encouraging story because it shows one person can make a difference. It also emphasizes that the individual must attempt to make a difference because our representatives can not always be relied on to protect our interests. I think it would also be a very interesting read for anyone interested in environmental issues or who has a similar problem in their own community. This incident was not as well publicized nationally as some more infamous catastrophies. But to the residents in this area, the problem is well known. It is sometimes hard to comprehend how a disaster like this could occur. This book explains how it happened to this unfortunate community and is a must read to raise people's awareness. It could happen anywhere....

An excellent Spanish dictionary
Maria Moliner's dictionary is the most comprehensive and up-to-date product in its class. As the above reviewer notes, it contains a wealth of entries, secondary meanings, etymology, and a diversity of usage examples that truly reflect the Spanish language of the present day. This product also comes in CD version, which adds convenience since it enables users to work with it within a word processing software package.

Given its numerous outstanding features, Maria Moliner's dictionary is, undoubtedly, one of the most useful tools on the Spanish language writer's desk.

The Bible of Spanish Language Dictionaries
I have used the María Moliner extensively for many years and I can safely say that it is by far the best Spanish language dicionary you can find. It provides clear examples, various grammatical uses, etymology, and lists all the various meanings for the entries. If you are a fluent Spanish speaker and are looking for a quality, trusted language resource with a detailed, in-depth approach to the Spanish language, the María Moliner is the book to buy.
