The Author - Writer of the Month
Fiction & Poetry Society This month, Meet our writers travel to Toronto to meet us with one of our proudest member of the society, Pritpal Singh Bindra. What made him such a distinctive role model that young writers are encourage to learn from, let's meet our writer...

I was scratching my head, wondering who should the writer of the month. Looking through the list, I found no one more suitable than Pritpal Singh Bindra. A new member in the society, Pritpal has already lend a hand and published one of his most influential pieces to us. The Flute, the title to his short story mesmerizes life about understanding and true feelings, where it projects a scene of a couple, willing to tolerate and share for love. Pritpal may be our oldest member in the society, born in September 11, 1929, he's now a retired teacher who formally became a High School teacher in India from 1953- 1960, then a Secondary school teacher in London for 2 years which later changed his job and settle as a Insurance broker. After retiring in 1985, he migrated to Canada and peacefully participated in many activities and wrote many of his works since then.

"O Nanak, meeting the True Guru, one comes to know the Perfect Way, while laughing, playing, dressing and eating, one is liberated." Holy Sikh Scripture

Till today, he published more than hundred over articles and stories to various magazine and periodicals such as India Journal Toronto, Indo-Canadian Voice Toronto, Weekly World Sikh News Stockton, Weekly Spokesman Chandigarh India, Sikh Review Calcutta India etc.

In 1997, he manage to published his first collection of short stories entitled MUKLAWA & OTHERSTORIES in Nov. 1997. And thus, the following year, lime light shone upon him as he won the prestigious Akali Phoola Singh Book Award for the year 1998 for the reference book THUS SAYETH GURBANI presented by Academy of Sikh Religion and Culture, Patiala, India.

He work range from Short Fictions, Research and Papers on Sikh Religion Articles on Socio-political themes about India and Indians in the West. He does not aspire for personal gains but wish to contribute towards globalization of world as one. Maybe, that's what made him one of the most honoured member of the society.

Dedication from Pritpal: To my wife, Surjit, without whose physical and moral support I could have not ventured into writing.

True Heart Poet
This compilation of works is timeless. The translation tries to captivate the urgency and immediacy of the message of Kabir. There is no time to waste in becoming aware of the limitless and infinite nature of the creation - embodied or disembodied, depending on how you look at it, as RAM. Although the collection lacks thorough notation as to where the each selection is found in the vast body of literature attributed to Kabir - thus it is not a scholarly book in the strictest sense and does not intend to be as the co-auther mentions in the foreword. The illustrations are a beautiful and stress the more esoteric, metaphysical nature of Kabir. Kabir is timeless...his message will be a source of divine inspiration for a millenia to come. This translation will also appeal to the newer generations, because they tend to be more questioning of religious dogma. Kabir stresses the Beyond. Kabir says, that anything short of total and perfect balance of body, mind, spirit is not acceptable. Rare are the individuals who can voice simplicity with complexity with such profound verse. If you were going to read one last book before dying - Read THIS One!!!

John Wayne at his best!
Of the Wayne/Ford trilogy pictures, this is by far the best. The score is hauntingly beautiful, the cinematography is excellent (especially in the black and white version), and all the regulars are there - Ben Johnson, Harry Carey, Victor McGlaglen, and last but by no means least, Maureen O'Hara. Wayne is always at his scrapping best when he's paired with the famous redhead, and this one definitely does not disappoint! A must for any Wayne lover's film library.

Who are the Sikhs?

A precious mini encyclopedia of Sikhism
This is a precious book for those who know nothing about Sikhs and Sikhism. This contains comprehensive information about the Sikh nation. Almost all the major subjects/issues of Sikhsm have been dealt here. The history of the Sikhs has been dealth in detail by the author in his book The SIKHS' STRUGGLE FOR SOVEREIGNTY (An Historical Perspective).
Dr. Dilgeer's The SIKH REFERENCE BOOK is suggested for further information about the Sikh nation. The Sikh Reference Book is more than an encyclopedia because it also has a comprehensive chronolgy of the Sikh history (which is not available anywhere else).
Dr. Dilgeer's latest work The SIKH CULTURE (July 2002) too is worth reading because it has the best possible material about the basic points of the Sikh Culture.
Three cheers to the celebrated philosopher Dr Dilgeer
Dr. Makhan Singh
