Clear and concise nutrition information for high perfomance
This volume provides clear and concise information on nutrition taylored to the need of the U.S. Navy SEAL operators and is as such equally valuable to all military personel. Although much of the material covered can be found elsewhere, this book cuts to the core and deliveres the information in context of the various missions undertaken by SEAL's and SEAL trainees, garnished with results from research conducted by the U.S. Navy specific to SEAL's and their operational environment.

Written in a workbook format, it provides tables and work-through examples to let you easily determine your own diatery needs. The book also covers the contents and nutritional value of the different military rations (MRE, LRRP etc.) and their usefullness for various missions and climatic conditions. A chapter on healthy eating in (fast food)restaurants and on eating for post-mission recovery adds to it's usefullness outside of field missions.

This is really a one-stop source for the military community. A very easy read and highly recommended!

Looking deeply into death.
Perhaps because I read this book shortly after the sudden, unexpected death of someone close to me, and after Thich Nhat Hanh's recent "day of mindfulness" here in Boulder, it touched me more deeply than any of Thay's previous books. In NO DEATH, NO FEAR, Thich Nhat Hanh succeeds once again at reducing a complex subject into a simple Buddhist teaching. Many of us would rather avoid the troubling subject of death. Thay observes that this is because we are afraid we will become nothing when we die. If we believe we cease to exist when we die, he says we are not looking deeply enough into death.

Death teaches us valuable lessons about impermanence and the interconnectedness (or "interbeing") of all things. In his characteristic style, the Vietnamese monk uses metaphors and simple illustrations to reveal that our human life is just a temporary manifestation, much like a wave on the ocean or a signal transformed into a song on the radio. By looking deeply into the everyday world in which we are interconnected with everything else, we may experience life without the fear of death.

Well written; Easy to use
As being a Punjabi youth in North America, I have always wanted to earn how to read and write Punjabi. However, there are so few resources available and those that are available are usually poorly put together. This book, on the ther hand, is easy to use and the exercises are relevant to the material. I would also suggest buying a Punjabi-English Ditionary, it will be helpful with this book. This book aso has well written dialogues for grammar comprehension. The only week point I saw was that I felt that the first section- dealing with the Gurmukhi Alphabet was a bit weak when it came to practice and memorization. Overall, this book is great for learning Punjabi.

An excellent rewiew of the state of the art in plant disease
This is a 3-volume set published by Pergamon, that gives us the results of the latest in plant pathology. The books are centered in the mechanisms of plant pathogenicity, with an special emphasis in the molecular side of the process. The series are divided in three volumes, the first for prokaryotes, in special bacteria, with two excelent chapters on the genetics of the pathogenicity. The case studies are about Erwinia spp, Xillela fastidiosa and other important bacteria. The second volume is about eukaryotes, specially fungus, treated with the same rigor that the first volume. The third book is about virus and viroids. This is an excellent book for students and advanced scientists that work with molecular plant pathology.

A very useful book
This book should be more famous than it is. I bought this book on half.com with a very cheap price. I didn't expect much from it. But when I started reading, I found this book rather good. The author has the readers in mind. The writing is very attractive, it's hard to imagine a semiconductor book that you don't want to leave aside. This book is not short of math, but unlike Seeger's book, it's not boring and intimidating, the author doesn't want to flood you with abstract math, he wants this book to be useful and practical. Also, there are a lot of illustrations to help you understand the text. The content of the illustration is good, but the drawing is a little coarse and need some refinement. Also, the typesetting should be improved.

A Popular Dictionary of Sikhism
Published in Paperback by Curzon Press (1990)
Authors: W. Owen Cole and Piara Singh Sambhi
Amazon base price: $18.00
Used price: $2.22
Average review score:

Excellent Introduction to Sikhism
This dictionary contains most of the terms that are related to Sikhism. Although not really an introductory course, by reading the definitions of so many words in the Sikh vocabulary, one gets an idea of what the religion is all about, including its relation to Islam and Hinduism, the two related faiths of India. The book lists the major figures in Sikhism, an outline of the history of the religion, a list of the sacred books, theology and a general overview of the philosophy, both in the introduction and in the definitions itself. A great aid for those interested in the faith.

The Prime Minister
Published in Hardcover by Rashmi Publishing House (15 November, 1998)
Author: Rattan Singh Mann
Amazon base price: $20.00
Used price: $10.00

The Spirit of Man survives in spite of everything.
The basic premise of this novel : The Spirit of Man survives in spite of the lies, wild exaggerations, and excesses of politicians, social engineers, and military High Commands. Professor Gupta, head of the Department of Psychological Warfare, hopes to relegate Freud's couch to the dustbin of history by replacing it with an electrically wired ice couch which will be cheap and suitable for developing nations. His "so-called" colleague,Inspector General Kumar hopes to solve security problems for all time by replacing mankind with robots. The unfortunate and unwilling subject of the experimental interrogations is Balwinder Singh Mann whose "crime" is that he knew Lulu, the crazed "prime minister".The story opens with Balwinder,on the couch, forced to recall Lulu's abuse by a mob. This rather somber feamework encloses the earthy, fascinating story of Balwinder's acquaintences who have erected a shanty-town(jhuggi) just below and in sight of the city of high-rises.The assortment of characters include : Chachi Jaan,a limping asthmatic "aunt" who acts as founder and caretaker;Kali,a bare-foot girl in rags from nowhere;Dhunu,a pick-pocket and pimp;Radha'an oppressed and misused Indian woman;and Lulu."Lulu" is not a name in the usual sense. He is a "useless nut" - butt of teasing children who call him "prime minister".Lulu is a Ghandhian dreamer unable to accept the New Age of Triple C:Computers, communication, and Corruption -an age where "if you want to fight corruption, you have to be corrupt yourself".His loss of faith in his fellowman has driven him crazy. A major irony of the novel is the comparison of the humanity of these dregs of society with the inhumanity of the power structures. This dichotomy provides the conflict for the novel. No section of the book is more moving than the shanty-town group coming to their painful decision after the beautiful child,Kali, has been defiled by the members of the police. The mix of dream-world and reality-world lends a flavour reminiscent of the writings of Toni Morrison. This haunting quality transports the reader into a radically different but riveting world where customary "logic" must be suspended.Expect to be mentally challenged as well as emotionally moved.
