Can she really get ANY guy?
The first in the Turning Seventeen series. These books focus around 4 best friends: Kerri, Jessica, Maya, and Erin. This book focuses around Kerri. Kerri is beautiful and outgoing. Her friends believe she can get any guy she wants. Only problem the guy she wants is taken. But then Kerri finds out that the guy she wants, Matt, is now available. Maya is very shy about guys so Kerri gives her advice to get a guy to ask her out. So Erin decides to make a bet to see if Kerri can put her money where her mouth is. The bet is that Kerri has one week to get Matt to ask her out. So Kerri accepts. What will happen?

This was an excellent book. My favorite of the whole series. The book was well written and engulfing. Kerri+Matt=YEAH!!!

A well-written young adult book
I enjoyed the characters and the situations in this young adult novel. The author touched upon some pretty sensitive subjects. I could relate to how frustrating it can be to be seventeen and in love! When Kerri makes a bet with her friends, daring her to ask a guy out, she finally wins. She asks Matt out on a date and their relationship blooms until their love is shattered by an ugly rumor. When Kerri's friend, Maya, is attacked by a male acquaintance, Kerri urges her friend to go to the police and report the crime. Kerri is also struggling with her decision regarding her absentee father. Should she contact him since he's removed himself from her life all these years? This book was a good, fast read! I kept turning those pages until I reached the end! I'd highly recommend this book to any person who enjoys YA fiction!

a WeLl WrItTeN sToRyLiNe!!
This book was by far one of the best books I have read. This author writes very well of how a teen girl is going through a rough time in her adolesent life. It talks about how the girl named Kerri & her three other best friends, Jessica, Maya, & Erin. Although this book mainly talks about Kerri's part. Her three friends believe that since she is a cheerleader and great looking, she can get any guy she wants. She can get any guy she wants but the only problem is is that there is one guy she can't get, the one she wants! So Erin desides to place a bet. On Kerri getting the guy, which is Matt.So the loser has to pay for pizza at Bernie's Pizza. So she accepts the challenge. Soon enough they are together. And Kerri begins to fell that Matt really is the one. Whenever she is around him, she feels chemistry between them. And she believes he feels the same way. Until he finds out about the bet. Big mistake! Now he believes she just went out with him because of some bet. While on the other hand, she hears from her absentee father. Who after leaving her family after seven years contacts her. If that didn't make it worse, since Maya liked this guy named T.J. Kerri had pushed her to go out with him. Well it worked, but the REALLY BAD thing is he tryed to hurt her. He broke the law of sexual assault. And she & her other friends had also gotten into a fight. Now Kerri's life is just a big mess. With love problems, family problems, and friend problems. This is just too much for a girl to handle. So to find out what happens read this book about a teen who is going through the thoughest time in her life.

A must read for High school kids
Where was this book when I was a kid? If I had read this book and known the truths conveyed here, I would be like Warren Buffet, today. Seriously, this book is full of helpful wisdom that everyone, young and old should know and use.

I think this book should be mandatory reading before a child graduates from HS. It could be a text book for an economics class. It's too bad so few people know about it. Get this book for your HS graduate and you won't have to support them the rest of their life. They will learn good habits and avoid making serious mistakes.

My hat off to the author for his insight and wisdom.

Thanks a lot GUY!
Well I have had a very rude awakening! I am nowhere near ready to retire...how sad for me. However, I have learned so great tools to get back on the path. I should be able to follow these simple principles, but only time will tell how effective they really are. Judging from Guy's experience he seems to know a heck of a lot more then I do about managing finances.

Baker's Dozen
EXCELLENT! It should be mandatory reading for all school kids.

An Absolute Must Have for Mystery Lovers!
Dead Guy's Stuff continues the story of Jane Wheel (Killer Stuff), an antique "picker" who has made a career of going through old stuff and finding treasures to sell to dealers. However, Jane is not that successful yet because she has a hard time letting go of her finds and she has a tendency to buy memories instead of valuable items, such as Elmira's old schoolwork. Needless to say, Jane is ecstatic when she finds a whole room of 1950s saloon ephemera - just what she needs to redecorate her mother and father's tavern in Kankakee. She loves the Bakelite darts and dice, advertisements from long-defunct liquor suppliers, old bar games, bowling trophies, old photographs and a severed finger in a jar? Jane immediately calls her friend Detective Oh and asks him what she should do. Oh graciously comes over and takes a look, but, while a little macabre, it isn't as if Jane found a dead body or anything. So Jane tucks the finger away in the glove compartment of her car and heads for home to redecorate. There she finds the dead body of her parents' former landlord - with a finger that is almost completely cut off. Jane is positive that there is a link between her finger and the dead guy. Now she just has to find it while dealing with her parent's attempts to keep their past secret, decorating her friend Tim's kitchen for a house show, rooting through the dead guy's three houses of stuff, her mother's kidnapping, her friend's suicide and a fascinating group of little old ladies...

Once again, Sharon Fiffer has presented readers with an absolutely fabulous book. Those who were captivated by her attention to detail and great characters in Killer Stuff will not be disappointed with this follow up. Again, there are great details about antiques and collectibles, as well as fascinating glimpses into small town life in Kankakee. Jane Wheel's associations with her fellow characters are always entertaining and her mother is a real kick. Don't wait for this one to come out in paperback - it is well worth the cost of the hardbound price!

I wish it were summer...
...so I could run off to garage sales and flea markets like Jane Wheel does! That's the hazard of reading Sharon Fiffer's series during the dead of winter. If you've ever been even temporarily addicted to sifting through other people's wretched refuse, you know what Jane's weekends are like, and you know what her house looks like. You might even know the touch of Bakelite, or feel your heart a-poundin' as you thumb through a box of old discarded photos and papers. It may sound awful or silly to the unexperienced picker, but the sights and sounds and smells of this diversion are wonderfully portrayed in these mysteries. In most instances in real life, you don't find EXACTLY the same things Jane does. (Thank goodness!) Read the books; they're almost like being there.

I like Jane!
This episode of "...stuff" was better than the first book. The main character and her cast become more developed and the story flows more smoothly. Jane Wheel is unlike any character I have come across. I look forward to more adventures.

Amazing
This book is great. I read it and I did all of the extersizes in it. The book is wonderful. Its the only book that I read that looked back into it (only for the extersizes inside it). I would recoment it to every teen.

Great Book!!!
This is the best book about fitness for teenage boys out on the market. I have experienced great results through it. It is an excellent book for building physically and mentally fit bodies. I recommend it to anyone who would like to take full advantage of life.

Very cool book!
Last week I saw Jake at Barnes and Noble. He was standing in front of a crowd talking about this book. I wasn't very interested, him and I have nothing in common. I like hanging with my friends and playing with my Play Station II, he talks about exercise ' something I definitely didn't care about. I could hear him in the next aisle, and the more I heard, the more I listened. This time he was talking about something I could relate to, being a fat kid, not being popular, being invisible. I slowly started to walk over. He was talking about Get Strong. Finally it clicked. My brother has been an athlete all his life ' the exact opposite of me. I always wondered why he got the good grades, the girls and had tons of friends. Jake said that all guys needed was a little physical fitness to get confident. I thought about it all the way home and asked my mom to get the book. I expected my brother to give me a hard time about it, but he thought it was cool. I have read the whole book twice and have begun exercising. My brother is a terrific coach and my family is really proud of me. I've only had the book a little over a week and it has changed my life. For one thing, I didn't know that I was so strong. I plan on following this program until I am where I want to be ' and Ashley Martin starts to notice me. I will keep you posted.

Great Book written by a great Teacher and friend
I have just gotten my own copy of this book and would recommend that you do to. I read this before it was published and thought it was great. This book truly sums up all those unsaid rules with guys. A must for a guy that doesn't have a clue.

A great book by a great guy
This is an excellent book. And it ws written by a great guy, Gar Green. Mr. Green is my teacher. Ihave read the book (even before it was published) and I think it is a great book for guy's. The bok is so true...it tells things about us guys that we don't even relize without thinking about it. Well anyways I really recomend thiss book UY RULES!

Very Funny. So close to the truth any guy will see himself.
The great accomplish here is that this is a book of humor that makes you think about yourself and recognize things you may never have thought of before. Very funny and very enlightening. Although I'm a LOT older than the authors, it rings true for my generation as well. I bought it at the suggestion of a friend. Now let me be your friend and give it my highest recommendation for your pleasure.

Read This to your Kids When their Other Books Bore You!
A perfect bedtime story. Clever, humourous, rhythmically pleasing, the right length, and truly fun to read aloud. My 4-year-old is never disappointed when we read this one, and even the 8-year-old and the 11-year-old wander in to listen. I commune with the author's sense of humour -- though I must confess I found his interview on this website pretty vapid. The book, however, is a classic and I'd buy a hardcover copy anytime.

A fine read aloud adventure
An adventure story told with a drool sense of humor. Understated and fun to read aloud. A sense of normalcy and absurdity underlies a boy's space journey.

Fantastic!
This is a wonderful book. I can't tell you how many times our son has begged us to read it. Of course he doesn't have to beg long because we thouroughly enjoy this book as well. We have checked it out from the library almost every week for months now and hope it will be back in print soon! When it does, I am buying one for everyone I know!

inspiring story
Incredible true life adventure. Full of a lot of interesting history and insight about the bahamas out islands. His adventure of transforming his life of recluse as a school teacher who lived with his parents until he retired, into a legend in the Abacos is incredible and awe inspiring. An execellent read for anyone that has ever dreamed of transforming their life and escaping to paradise.

Highly recommend the book, especially if you are thinking of visiting Abaco... I recommend taking a trip to the Abacos and finding your own new addition. It won't cost you any less, but it will be worth a lot more.

Out Island Doctor
I borrowed this book from a friend in New Orleans. I was a little dubious about it from the '60's cover art. The very first chapter cast a net over me! I stayed up for hours to finish the story and have read and re-read the book. I have to return the book so I'm going to buy the newest print. "De Doctah" did something so many people haven't the courage to do by "going island" and then putting it in print. If you are an armchair adventurer, this book may make you get up out of the chair! This book is a WOW! I'll even say it backwards "WOW"!

A physician's authentication of this man and his book.
During a visit to the Bahamas in 1972 I read this superb and incredible biography. When I finished it I flew over and met Evans Cottmann while he was seeing patients in his little office. I visited his fairy tale green castle, saw his ketch and authenticated for myself this unbelievable and beautiful story. This book proves what man can do who is endowed with limited means, unlimited imagination and a desire to give and share his life.

One Happy Grandma
I was shown this book by a family member just before my grandchildren came to visit from across the country. My grandson is 6 years old and had not yet entered the first grade. All it took was a look at the cover and he was into it.
He studied each of the pages and turned to me with a desperate voice (while holding my face with his hands and making me look into his eyes)"TEACH ME TO READ GRANDMA! I want to know what they are doing"!
Well, I think that says it all. This is a kid that does not sit still for a minute and here he was asking to learn to read!
The concept of photography of real kids, and the fabulous graphic arts, really drew my little guy into the book. I am hoping there are more to come. Books about "Time Soldiers" and grandchildren! tee hee...

teacher's choice
As a teacher in the east county of San Diego I have just used this book with my class and it was a huge success. The children and the adults in my class were quite taken with the local connection. They enjoyed realizing that the photos were taken close to home and the story kept their interest. It was fun to read and to listen to. I met the authors and they were very informative and I enjoyed talking with them.
Thanks

Rex: King of the Dinosaur Adventures
"Rex", the first of the Time Soldier series by Robert Gould is a well written and beautifully photographed kid's adventure story in the time of the dinosaurs. Five boys and a girl travel back into a prehistoric age through a time warp portal in their neighborhood forest. "Rex" is written at an appropriate reading level for elementary age children and contains educational facts on dinosaurs and their environment. The younger children can concentrate on the excellent photography if they are not yet up to the reading level, while the older children can learn new vocabulary from reading the text. The fantastic computer generated images of the dinosaurs are very detailed, down to the wrinkles on the hides and gleam in their eyes. The story line emphasizes the friends helping each to survive the difficulties that they encounter. I highly recommend this book for elementary school age children.

Best Bird Book Ever?
This book ranks as one of the greatest achievements in ornithology ever. It puts in perspective some of the most perplexing and difficult groups of birds with sublime artistry, comprehensive text along with distributional data and beautiful maps. It is a pleasure to have it as a reference even if like the average mortal I may never get a chance to see but a small fraction of the birds covered. Use it as a reference to both plan and make notes before your trip. The vastness of the continent and the diversity of the birdlife of South America is now opened up for all to see; this is the book to launch a thousand expeditions into the bird continent and to make new discoveries.

Who could want for more?
This book is definitely one of the best books about birds I've ever seen. Personal experience, combined with the experience of others, plus a tremendous knowledge of the species, make this book even surpassing the first volume.
Mr. Tudor must have spent at least two lifetimes as well in collections as in the field to present us with these drawings which show both the necessary details and the natural position of the bird. To perform this, you should not only be an excellent painter, but have thorough knowledge of the birds as well.
It's such a pity that apparently they're not succeeding in finishing the series, given the fact that it is eight years since this volume has appeared and the site of the editor states "No release date has been set for the remaining volumes". guess they're too busy observing the birds ;-)

The definitive work on South American birds
This book, and its companion volume are the first part of a promised 4 volume work on South American avifauna. These books are wonderfully detailed, beautifully illustrated, and worth every penny of the purchase price. I am a bird book fanatic and have enjoyed these books as much as any of the other books in my collection. One of the other reviewers mentioned these as field guides. In my opinion, they are definitely not field guides- way to massive. I imagine myself lugging these two babies through a lost corner of some rainforest in Brazil. They are heavy when dry but once they became soaked, they would probably kill you. These are wonderful books but not field guides. They are reference works written and illustrated by some of the most respected experts in the business.
