Impressively Exelent
Guy Davis achieves in The Marquis what a team of talented writers and artists seldom manage to acomplish: AN EXTREEMLY WELL WRITTEN TALE THAT IS ENTERTAINING START TO FINISH. The story is amazing, the art is amazing, and most of all, Guy Davis is amazing for having done it all himself!

The Marquis is a must have for any fan of graphic novels.

One of The Best!
The Marquis is an amazing book. It is almost hard to believe one guy wrote and illustrated this. The dialogue is smart and the illustrations are very dark, detailed and deep. The town the story takes place is fictional based on 17th century France, but there are some historical basis used. It was a great idea to hide all the sinners underneath masks. And The Marquis is definitely not your normal everyday hero. The plot twist at the end makes the story worthwhile to slowly read through and not just try to make it to the finish as quick as possible. This is the first in a three book set. I can't wait for the others to come out.

Modifying and Tuning Fiat/Lancia Twin-Cam Engines

Comprehensive, addressing all areas of incresing performance
Having met Guy and having him modify my Fiat TC was occuring as the book was being written. This book reflect guy's no-nonsense sceintific approach to enginge modification and shares his experience such that I felt confident to build up my own engine after he had done the machining. Information in this book is clear and detailed and would apply to many other engines as well. This is in the same top-flight rank as Vizard's books on the BMC A series...maybe better. Neil Roshier

Excellent technical manual for the enthusiast
As a Lancia/Fiat enthusiast, this book gives me all the technical know how to safely modify where the author has been and experimented with these excellent twincam motors. Guy Croft runs a large tuning shop for these engines and the book is his exhaustive results of what works and what doesnt, and what results can be expected. Very technical, very thorough, this is a book that will save the enthusiast a fortune by avoiding mistakes in getting more power out of a TC motor. The only other company that have ever done so much modifying to these engines,Abarth, have never revealed any of their findings to the public in this manner, which makes this the only book on the subject to my knowledge ( apart from workshop manuals) A rare find indeed! An absolutely amazing book.....
Weaving together many different disciplines, observations, and historical facts, Odom carefully constructs his thesis - which basically proves how the three elements making up the title are related and flow from one another. What is of great interest is that this area is grossly neglected, other than the occasional "feel good" books that are paraded around the TV talk shows, or the hypnotic productions from the academic mills.

Be aware, however, that Odom pulls no punches, and is refreshingly clear in the light of political correctness. I will not give away the full gist of his argument, but strongly encourage anyone who considers themselves literate and educated to read this book. Ideally, the topics within the book could become the enlightened basis for the development not only of the family but of democracy as well.

Two books in one explain some age-old truths
Guy Odom has put together a fascinating look at when and why civilizations collapse and the role of motherhood in the stages of civilizations. Sound far-fetched? It isn't. Basically, civilizations last approximately 10 generations. As we look at Generation X (#10) today, this concept becomes meaningful. We are truly in the Age of Decadence, as outlined in Odom's book. Additionally, his look at civilizations' progress through the stages and the role of dominant women in the decline of a civilization is mind-numbing. As dominant women become more affluent, they choose to bear less children, while the less-affluent women bear more. As the population shifts, more children are reared by non-dominant (and therefore, less successful) women, facilitating the decline of civilization. Other factors play a role, such as permissiveness and acceptance of lower morality, etc. The premise is frightening and spellbinding, scary and thought-provoking. A great read!

The Music Box: The Story of Cristofori

Educational and entertaining!
"The Music Box - The Story of Cristofori" is a unique educational story about the invention of the piano. In a wonderful and clear fashion, children (and adults) learn about music before the piano existed and discover the mechanical-musical genius of Cristofori's invention. Additional pages at the end of the book give more specific information about the piano and the inventor. Recommended for all children to encourage exploration. Also suggested for elementary classes and all music teachers...Dr. Kathleen Kain, scientist and educator.

STORY OF CHRISTOFORI/PIANO
I love this book. Any young person studing music should read this book. It not only familiarizes kids(not to mention adults) with the story of the most important person in the history of the piano, but it has a section that teaches about the piano and how it works. Ive read it a bunch of times and look back on it regularly. Parents dont always think their kid taking piano lessons needs music books like they need school books, but they do. This book goes well in a young persons bedtime reading library.

Wonderful book!
This is one of the best children's books I have seen in awhile. It has two qualities that are vitally important in any book for young children. First, the illustrations are so bright and silly and full of detail that children will enjoy looking at them alone. Second, the poems are so catchy and whimsical that adults will enjoy reading the book out loud for the hundredth time as much as the first time. This is a book that will give the giggles to adults as well as to children.

A stunning visual history! A must have for every home
On The Trail To Wounded Knee: The Big Foot Memorial Ride

This is the most spectacular book I have found in coffee table editions. The black and white photographs are captivating! Many of them are two-page spreads. The photographer, Guy Le Querrec, is said "to have the eye of a tragedian." The Big Foot Memorial Ride is called "the symbol of the Indian [eradication]." This book covers the 100th anniversary Big Foot Memorial Ride, which took place from Saturday, 15 December, 1990 to Saturday, 29 December, 1990.

In 1890, just after Sitting Bull was assassinated, Chief Spotted Elk, nicknamed Big Foot, was called an "Indian agitator" by the government. A warrant was issued for his arrest by the government. Big Foot knew he could not protect his band, which consisted mostly of elderly, women, and children. He was seventy years old and being riddled by pneumonia. He planned to take his band to Pine Ridge and seek the help of Chief Red cloud.

Many members of the band were barefoot and all were starving. Only two had rifles. On 17 December 1890, the band began the trip of more than 260 miles through the snow. On 29 December, soldiers of the Seventh Cavalry surrounded their camp. These men opened fire with the new Hotchkiss machine guns. They slaughtered roughly 350 Native Americans, plus an "accidental forty-five soldiers, and then calmly rode away to wait out the blizzard before sending a detachment back to bury the Indians in mass trench graves.

On 1 January 1891, photographer George Trager recorded the incident. His photographs are included in this book. The book of Big Foot lying dead in the snow has been widely published and is the photograph most commonly associated with the government's ...eradication of Native Americans.

Only four men and forty-seven women and children survived. Survivors of the massacre said that the seventh generation following the massacre would restore unity to the Sioux people. That generation is being born today. The children of today will become the unifying generation!

The government rewarded the actions of the soldiers by awarding thirty-five nedals for actions during "the battle."

Each year for five years, the Sioux gathered for a memorial ride, with the biggest ride being planned for the 100th anniversary of the massacre. This was supposed to be the final ride, with the Big Foot band being buried in the Wounded Knee cemetery at the completion of the ride. Renowned French photographer, Guy Le Querrec accompanied them on this ride and documented the activities from the planning to the following celebrations.

This book is so much more than simply a collection of photographs and writing. It is a memorial for a band of people, a memorial for the Native American culture, and testament to the Native American spirit. It is a critically important documentation of a historical event. But, more important than anything else, it is, according to Jim Harrison, a book that "will start a fire in your brain that will last forever, assuming you are a true human being."

How could I ever add anything to that final statement? See for yourself!

Moving, visual testimony of the long forced march
Guy Le Querrec's On The Trail To Wounded Knee: The Big Foot Memorial Ride is an impressive photographic memorial of one of the most brutal and tragic massacres of Native Americans in recorded American history. In 1990, the one hundredth anniversary of the long journey and eventual slaughter of Chief Big Foot and most of his tribe, members of the Sioux nation retraced the journey in honor of those who suffered and died. Photographer Guy Le Querrec followed the trail with them, and captured these powerful black-and-white images. Vignettes and quotes from history are interspersed with this moving, visual testimony of the long forced march that has since become a symbol of American genocide.

Entertaining and Informative
Reluctant Angels creatively captures the early days of Los Angeles, its filmmaking industry and police corruption. Author Guy C. Taylor cleverly assumes the voice of Midwesterner Mary Jane. Like many newcomers to California, Mary Jane tests her wings and grows with the community -- during the depths of the Great Depression.

Readers share Mary Jane's challenges in single parenthood, her second marriage and a fledgling business. A talented but unknown dressmaker, Mary Jane eventually designs and sews outfits for such stars as Joan Crawford and Claudette Colbert. Mary Jane's conversations with relatives, neighbors and friends treat readers to some spicy celebrity gossip, the leading news stories of the 1930s and even some tidbits about Hollywood's famous eateries and landmarks.

Very Engaging
This book brings to mind the excitement and growth of the movie industry and the people who made it all possible. I greatly enjoyed reading Reluctant Angels.
