Dandelion Clock by Guy Burt
"The Dandelion Clock" by Guy Burt is an incredibly well-crafted, touching novel. Through a series of flashbacks it tells the tale of Alex, James, and Anna, their childhood together in Italy and the tragic outcome. Guy Burt has done an amazing job of conveying the beauty of the childrens' relationships and the bitterness in the ensuing tragedy. This book is one of the best novels I have read in a long time. I am eagerly looking forward to any future novels by Guy Burt.

Beauty on a page
For anyone looking for a book containing equal amounts of beauty and bittersweetness, this is the one for you. It tells the story of three English children(Alex, Jamie and Anna) growing up in Italy and particularly of one summer where they encounter a wounded man hiding in a nearby abandoned church and decide to take care of him. The story begins with Alex having become middle-aged and a fairly recognised painter and returning to Italy for a couple of weeks - supposedly to find the peace to decide the order of the different paintings for his next exhibition but really having come back to try and come to terms with how what happened that summer was able to have such an impact on his life.

It is through him and his recollections that we are taken back to that summer where the children are 11...12...13 years old and where, to use a cliché, their lives are changed forever.

The book is equal parts portrait of children and childhood and an example of how people that we come across in our lives have the possibility of affecting us in ways which we can't even imagine - in this case in ways which are equally tragic for all three children.

It's difficult to do the book justice without revealing too much of the story but I have to say that the ending is both the saddest and most beautiful piece of fiction I have ever read. I cried till my chest hurt because of its beauty and, if you believe you have an ample surply of kleenex, can only recommend that you read it as well. It is at times a story of great pain but within the pain lies the beauty.

My 3 year old LOVES this book
This book is adorable. The pictures are colorful, the text rhymes and the story is simple but enticing. We enjoy this book almost every night these days. Some of the dinosaur names are hard to say, but we still love it!

Dinosaurumpus is very good!
My teacher read this to us at school. Every single page of that book is good. Dinosaurs play really loudly. I was a little bit scared the first time I heard it, because the T-rex ran out. But now i am not scared anymore and it is REALLY fun to read.

Excelent book(2) for residentes, MD, Doctor , PDr
This books have excellent program a crucial question is whether to recognition a new challenges and use new technologies, have a new concept about of neurologic disease. The basis for the technical advances that them have discussed has not from the neurosciences. I recomend this book (2) es very important for verific some nerologic diseases. Its very, very, well. Excellent.

Not another Textbook of Neurology. A wonderful piece of work
To my knowledge, this text succeeds in bridging the gap between clinical neurology and basic neurosciences as no other one did before. In doing so it makes significantly more rational the current management of neurologic diseases. A new edition should be available soon.

Our favorite
My 2 year old daughter LOVES this book. She has almost memorized it word for word and has made up hand motions to go with it. It is a lively, adorable rhyme and the colorful illustrations are wonderful.

Confessional and Premature Love
This is the parent's favorite of children's book to date. Keep this in mind though, the kid-to-be has only 5 books currently in his nascent library and the big thumbs up comes from two overly enthusiastic and gate jumping before the gun expectant parents.

That's right; we have been reading this book to the belly for the last week and absolutely love it. I can't speak for the life growing within, but the book has rhythm, bright colors, goofy animals, a lively story, and enough little details to keep readers enrapt studying the words, hoping and anticipating what comes next. The illustrations are a work of art with beautiful rich color. Each page has an animal at the periphery that will show up featured en-scene on the next page.

If the life that shows up in 3 months time doesn't absolutely love it, Mom and Dad will sneak off to a closed room and read it in joy and glee.

From hesitation to a superb rating....
I had the opportunity to see this show at the National Gallery in Washington D.C. and am amazed at how well everything was represented both in the book and at the show. At first I wasn't going to buy the book but, after speaking with my painting professor, who has been collecting Vuillard books for over 30 years, state that this is THE most comprehensive book of Vuillard's work and probably has more information and work than all his other Vuillard books combined, well, that clenched it and I had to get the book. I am very, very glad I did.

An authoritative coverage of Vuillard's vast body of art
The career of this French painter and photographer spanned the first four decades of the 20th century and produced a wealth of works. Edouard Vuillard represents the most comprehensive and authoritative study of Vuillard's art, with over a hundred works covering the wide range of his creations and enjoying essays by the authors, who explore his career and influences. Though it's the catalog for an exhibition in Washington DC, Edouard Vuillard will also earn its own rightful place as an authoritative coverage of Vuillard's vast body of art.

An inside view of the RAF bomber pilots
I first read it when I was at the military aviation school in Venezuela and I was fascinated. It is very well written and you actually feel the intimacies of the bomber pilot. I recommend it to everyone who is interested in WWII history.

A first class story of special ops bombers in the RAF
This story of 617 Squadron's Dams raid in WWII was written by the original leader, who won the VC for his leadership , skill, and bravery in battle. You won't put down this insider's look into the plan and attack on the dams, at night, using custom rotating/ bouncing bombs at 60 feet in the fog !! Also read The Dam Busters, on the same squadron, continuing the story to the end of the war, with even more harrowing ops to follow, including the great raids , and final sinking, of the Tirpitz.

master of depraved-chic
Every fashion person who ever was blown away by the original depraved-decadence fashion photos of the notorious french and italian vogues from the red-hot seventies....will savor this collection of legendary images by a truly visionary master, Guy Bourdin. Mr. Bourdin, alongside Mr. Helmut Newton, changed what was acceptable as an image to sell luxurious designer products. They introduced imagry associated with pornography, violence, surrealism and Film Noir to the fashion magazines and started a trend that will never go out.....even though the versions recreated today no longer have the style, taste or originality of these masters.....an odd statement considering their work was considered "tasteless" by many subscribtion cancelers.
This book could have had better printing quality....and some actual magazine spreads could have been included....but overall, it's a long overdue tome.

A great first collection.
This sample of Guy Bourdin's work is an interesting glimpse of some of his photographs. Little known in America, Bourdin was well known in the world of fashion photography and often copied by well known, popular photographers. This selection offers a taste of his work and a hint of what will follow in further releases of his photographs.

Facing History: The Black Image in American Art 1710-1940
This excellent text is a wonderful resource for college teachers in American Culture, American Art, or American Humanities. It brings together in one place dozens of images of African Americans as seen in American Art. Beautiful color plates with excellent text. The introductory essays are especially useful. Images include both negative stereotypes and positive images.

A powerful pictorial review of race and identity in America.
Guy C. McElroy's work should be a standard text in all High School History classes. Through the careful selection of art, from various periods in American history, McElroy skillfully demonstrates the use of caricature and placement in determining social vilification, acceptance, and strength in Black Americans. This volume is a MUST for anyone trying to understand the development and maintenance of racial stereotypes and how attitudes can be influenced by works of art.

I are Paul's 'Old Guy'! Great book on a difficult subject.
I am still amazed that Q was able to write such a readable and hillarious book about a trip that turned into a disaster. Only an author blessed with superior skills and humour could pull it off, but he did and 'in spades!' As Q's 'Old Guy' I am putting the finishing touches on a sequel to his book, Fishing With Paul Quarrington by His Old Guy. It delves further into our fishing and casting lives together since we met fifteen years ago and includes Paul's second trip to the Broadback, this time to my territory and with superb fishing.

I are the 'Old Guy'. Great book on a difficult subject!
I talked Paul into making this trip with us. We had fished and worked on his angling skills for over ten years and I felt he was ready to go affter the 'Big One'. Howeverr it was not to be. We ran into just about the worst conditions that anybody could imagine and due to circumstances were unable to go to the Deval territory, one with which I was familiar. I didn't think it was possible for anybody to construct a readable tale as a result of this venture, but Paulie not only pulled it off, but wrote his 'Old Guy' book with all the flair and humour that only a superb author could. I am just putting the finishing touches on a sequel to his wonderful account of that mis-adventure, 'Fishing With Paul Quarrington by His Old Guy'. It fills in the holes that 'Q' left out and includes his next trip with us, this time into my territory and with superb fishing.

Forest and Crag: A History of Hiking, Trail Blazing, and Adventure in the Northeast Mountains

Simply the best book on Hiking in New England!
A friend turned me on to this book. I had passed on it a few times due in part to it's huge size. However I found that it was everything I ever wanted to know about the mountains and forests of New England. It's written in a very accesible manner that never leaves the reader without a smile for long. It's very obvious that the text contained in this book was researched with an artists attention to detail. And it shows in the nearly 200 pages of appendix!

To those in the North East the name Guy Waterman and his wife Laura have long been synonymis with hiking and climbing in the the region. A lot of hulabaloo was made over his death and the poetic yet puzzling statement it makes. In any case, after reading this book it becomes easy to see why he was so well loved, respected, and admired by so many of his peers.

If this book was $100.00 it would still be worth it. The amount of labor that went into this book is priceless. It was very obviously a labor of love. Buy it and read it.

Forest &Crag
This book is a great indepth look at mountainiering in the northeastern United States. It has to be the most complete history of the northeast mountains. It starts back when Darby Fields and many others started to explore the area, and runs through the nineteen eighties. Laura and Guy Waterman researched for ten years in order to put this book together. They are both acomplished writers and have a way of making a history exciting and humorous. It is a great tribute to the early settlers of the area and how hearty they were. I recomend this book to anyone who has done some hiking in the northeastern United States or are just interested in the history of the land. This is a must buy for all serious northeastern mountainiers.
