Wish I had this book 28 years ago...
If young men and women would read and heed this book we would probably have less divorce. I know that if I had read this book before I got married we would have had less "bumps" in the road during those first few years. This book helps you ask the pertinent questions to see where you may have the problems and correct them before you get married. I recommend it highly for anyone who is even thinking about the dating game. It's a great alternative. The younger the reader the better!Pre-teens would be my suggested audience. Moms and Dads - you will be glad that you purchased this book early and save yourself and your kids a lot of heartache.

Hilarious!
My kids and I laughed and laughed as Adam Sharp and Magna Carter (great name!) tried to get Big Ben back from the Texans who had invaded London. This is a great series for kids who like spies. My sons hope to see Adam Sharp on televisio one of these days. A wonderful series.

Long live Adam Sharp!
This is one of the cleverest series being published for children. It is so funny, and Adam is so cool. My kids love these books - and the new format from Random House is really attractive. The artwork is wonderful, too. How cool is it to go swimming in a tuxedo, looking for sharks. Long live Adam Sharp!

"...the book is an up-to-date compilation of present knowledge in fish and invertabrate telemetry...I would recommend it to students, and researchers working on aquatic animals, as it will certainly be useful for further studies."

I'm not sure how one reviews a landmark...
Plain and simple, this is a book that you have to read again and again and again just for good measure. One cannot possibly appreciate modern American literature as it exists today without reading Huck Finn. Twain's style is one-of-a-kind, and his keen sense of politics and history is one that rarely exists in modern times. Get past the racial implications of this book and look at what Twain is -saying-. Huck Finn is a character who is a rogue, a modern scoundrel; however, we trust his moral judgement and are able to look inside another time and place through his journey with Jim up the Mississippi. So get out your maps and notebook and enjoy Twain at his finest.

Apparition et Autre Contes d'Angoisse
Published in Paperback by French & European Pubns (01 October, 1987)
Authors: Guy de Maupassant and Guy de Maupassant
Amazon base price: $10.95
Average review score:

Weird, decadent literature at its best.
This is a fantastic story from one of the world's greatest supernatural writer's, and this acourding to Lovecraft! Reminesent of a good Edgar Allen Poe tale, it uses the ploy of double interpitation, the reader never really knows what, if any thing, has happened. It could be real or simply the feverish fantasy of the character's deranged mind. Steeped in mystery, it's primarily about a man, prematurely aged by his erotic obsesion for his young wife, trying to avoid his own death and get someone else to take his place. Naturaly (or un-naturaly) major spookiness ensues. This is a masterpiece of the bizarre, any fan of horror or decadent fiction won't be disapointed.

Praise for the artist
Guy Davenport is a guy who writes really interesting and beautiful sentences. He writes these sentences as pictures, in my opinion. He also draws pictures (not my opinion, the pictures are in his books).

He likes to arrange these word-pictures and pen-pictures in pleasing groups.

He is a master of the literary art, and so (of course) no person in America speaks his name.

This is because "culture," as conceived by the present American yuppie generation (and their wannabes around the globe) is widely believed to consist of an appreciation of wine, opera, and painting. There is no room in there for someone who creates literature, because there is (realistically) no way to spend huge amounts of money on this aspect of culture. The key thing about culture-as-wine-opera-and-painting is that your wealthy wannabes can spend vast amounts of money demonstrating their "culture."

Well, the concept is kind of fascinating: how to become "cultured" without opening a book. I wonder how this will turn out.
