W-O-W !
This controversial book is a gem: you'll rediscover the people that made the 20th century in a way you never expected to see them! The illustrations by Guy Peellaert ar truly fabulous and the texts by english writer Nik Cohn match perfectly with them. A must-have!

GREAT book
Even though I think a few people are missing, I really enjoyed watching this phantasmagorical world of famous faces put together in a completely fictional way.I guess it's taken the artist many years of work to achieve something like that. There are about 80 pictures and not one seems to have been neglected! I didn't know the artist Guy Peellaert until I saw the article in Vanity Fair and I must say that his work fascinates me.

I agree
I agree with everyone: this si a truly smart book filled with unexpected and intriguing images. I thought Rock Dreams would remain Guy Peellaert's one masterpiece, but this one is for me even better because it doesn't just deal with the history of Rock, but with the history of the whole century. The 20th century has been the wildest, craziest one ever aand the artist knew how to capture the eseence of the great people of our time!Good job!

Its sleepy time!
Kids today aren't getting enough sleep. It is obvious when you look at the number of children who are being labeled as having ADD or ADHD, when all they really need is more sleep. If you are a parent of a young child, I highly recommend this book, not just for your child(ren) but for parents too. Its important for parents and children to understand how sleep, or lack of sleep affects the body and more importantly, the mind. Remmy and Dr. Zeez help children to understand why they need to get their sleep and how they can benefit from getting 9 hours of GOOD sleep every night. I'm all ready reading this with my 6 week old daughter. The play along CD which accompanies the book is a great bonus which I find relaxes me as well as my daughter as it is played. Enjoy some good rest...you and your child(ren) deserve it!

Delightful book!
Dr. Maas's book, "Remmy and the Brain Train," is an absolute delight to read! The book chronicles a young boy, Remmy, through his important discovery of what sleep is and how it helps in his everyday life. Remmy benefits from the teaching of the wonderful sleep doctor, Dr. Zeez, who offers real-life wisdom about sleep that is applicable to all of us!

The characters are vibrant, the illustrations are very creative, and the story is incredibly engaging... education is rarely this fun! The author has crafted a book that is a true winner for children and parents alike, especially with the enclosure of the read-along, sing-along CD. I would highly recommend "Remmy and the Brain Train" as one of the best children's books available today.

A fantastic journey that educates while it entertains!
"Remmy and the Brain Train" is an exhilerating ride that will fascinate both parents and their young children, a rare accomplishment in children's literature. It's a clever, behind-the-scenes look at the values of sleep, that is just as educational for my husband and I, the parents of an inquisitive 5 year old, as it is for my son. Through the delightfully fun dialogue of Dr. James Maas's characters we are taken on a nightly journey to the land of great sleep and are cheerfully explained the benefits of bedtime...something ALL parents can appreciate! "Remmy and the Brain Train" is the perfect marriage of a working didactic tool and an imaginative, creative fairy tale. The principles behind better sleep are woven seamlessly into the story, and because awkward textbook jargon is thankfully nowhere to be found, our son actually understands why sleep is important! Just as I was intrigued and motivated by Dr. Maas's first book, Power Sleep, a few years ago, so now is my child by this, his first foray into children's literature. I would recommend "Remmy" heartily to all parents who want to raise a happy and healthy child!

wonderful, clear book!
Very good book on vipassana practice and how to do it. Rosenberg writing style is very good and his simple and clear explanations of complex or confusing ideas is most helpful. One of the best books I've read on buddhism or meditation. Highly recommended.

Best book I've ever read on insight meditation!
Simple and written in plain English. Larry Rosenberg is a wonderful teacher. I read it over and over and get something new out of it every time.

Delicious, delightful introduction to meditation
I can't agree more with the other reviewers, and rather than rehash what they wrote, I'll simply say this: This book opened my eyes to a very simple, very painless way of meditating. I had no idea that insightful breathing could be so easy! Rosenberg has a great writing style and a wonderful sense of humor, making his book a delight to read. HIGHLY recommended.

my favorite gynecologist
Dr. Wahn, one of the authors of "Your Guys Guide to Gynecology",is my personal Gynecologist and for that reason I bought the book. Thinking that I knew everything in the book, I read it anyway. I found it not only to be informative, and humorous for men, but I also learned things that I didn't know.I think that this book should be a required reading for High School Seniors, both male and female.

What I thought I knew
What's most amazing about this book is what you think you knowabout women's sexual organs and functions verses what you will knowafter reading it. I started the book one Saturday morning and couldn't put it down until I was finished. Stunned by my ignorance to what I thought was fact, but so glowing in what I had learned, I could not wait to tell my wife. If you are at all interested in understanding and improving intimancy in your relationships ...read this book. It's fun, with easy to understand terminolgy and concepts!

Delivers (no pun intended) as advertised
The great thing about this book is that is really is written for "guys," and really is a "guide to gynecology." I highly recommend to this book to any guy who shares a roof with a woman. Talk about a boost to understanding! A good read of the chapter on "Attack of the Killer Hormones" ought to be required reading for men everywhere. The greater understanding it provides just might make for a much richer relationship. Heck, it might even save some.

A classic and renowned work of Tibetan Buddhism
Tsong-Kay-Pa (1357-1419) was the founder of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism, the Ganden Monastery, one of Tibet's most renowned and influential philosophers, and a prolific writer. His works run into eighteen volumes covering the full range of Buddhist thought and practice, combining a profound meditative spirituality with meticulous reasoning. The Great Treatise On The Stages Of The Path To Enlightenment, translated for the first time into English by Lam Rim Chen Mo, is a classic and renowned work of Tibetan Buddhism, as well as an invaluable addition to any personal or scholarly Buddhist studies collection.

THE treatise on Tibetan Buddhism
Je Tsong Kha Pa's Stages of the Path of Enlightenment, is arguably the single most important work ever produced about Tibetan Buddhism. This great Buddhist adept masterfully fashioned a cogent and logical exploration of the steps, that faithfully followed, could lead to Enlightenment in a single lifetime. The scholars involved in this translation are a veritable "Who's Who" of Tibetan Buddhist thought in the West. This eminently readable and thoroughly researched volume should be in the library of anyone who is interested in this rich spiritual tradition.

ARGUABLY MOST IMPORTANT BOOK IN TIBETAN LITERATURE
This book is a must read for people familiar with the Buddhist path. It provides a general framework for how all the different practices and teachings fit, in relation to one another and the Buddhist path more generally. In response to some of the critiques of the book below, the book must be taken within its historical context. Tibet was a patriarchial culture and Tsong-kha-pa did see Buddhism as a superior path to other paths. That said, Tsong-kha-pa's comments on these things need to be taken with a grain of salt and it is much better to look to current teachers, such as the Dalai Lama, for advice on these topics.

Entertaining and Inspirational
Although Guy Saperstein probably wrote A CIVIL WARRIOR for a broad based audience, it is very worthwhile reading for attorneys, especially civil litigators. The book begins with a description of Guy Saperstein's childhood days in Southern California, continues with stories of his law school days and the beginnings of his public interest law career. Eventually, we learn of the historic employment discrimination cases he handled. The book is inspirational. Obviously, we are richer for the results Saperstein and and his colleagues obtained through the massive class action employment discrimination cases he launched. However, A CIVIL WARRIOR also gives encouragement and inspiration to the practicing attorney to go "the extra mile" for clients. Many practioners, I believe, would likely have settled much earlier in the various litigations in which Saperstein was involved. Saperstein's description of how his cases were screened, prepared and either tried or settled are completely engrossing.

A true civil warrior!
Guy Saperstein has written a beautiful masterpiece with his latest book, "Civil Warrior: Memoirs of a Civil Rights Attorney." It's not often one finds a book of this caliber, so when one does locate such a book - it is a MUST read!!

The book exemplifies the glory of justice being served. Guy Saperstein not only shares his experiences in litigating important cases, ones which have made a profound impact on our society (such as the Denny's discrimination case and the State Farm Insurance case), but he also shares valuable lessons of life. The lessons he learned from his father and throughout his many experiences in life are ever so fundamental, yet they are the kinds of lessons in life that we all would do well to be reminded of.

An incredibly enjoyable and informative book!! This is a book no one can pass up!

A Must for Legal Professionals and Laypeople Alike!
Civil Warrior delivers an unusual glimpse in regards to tenacity, defense consciousness, and it's rewards both professionally and personally. Guy Saperstein gives you the key, and more, to information that is critical in understanding cognitive thinking. Peppered with humor and wit, his style is far from stuffy! This is an extremely enjoyable read. I recommend this book highly!

Instructional Design Made Easy

Improving Distance Learning with Instructional Design
There isn't an easier way to learn about instructional design than by picking up a copy of Dr. Bruce's book. This book offers a step-by-step process for designing any training need whether it is business or education oriented. Each task within the design process is broken down and explained with clarity, allowing the reader to view specific examples and nonexamples for each component within this process. I have repeatedly used this book to improve the content and design of material for a distance learning course in behavior analysis. I have also used this book to design activities for business projects and education workshops. I highly recommend this book to those who are new to instructional design as well as to those who wish to improve their current practices.

Insightful Book
Instructional Design Made Easy provides an insightful look into instructional design. After careful consideration of the material in this book, I considered using the concepts in an educational setting. A better use of this book would be in a business related setting, in which I have had some experience. The Efficient Design Checklists in each section is a great help in keeping users on track toward their objectives. I particularly like Exercise 2 which helps one to identify measureable results. The Performance Objective Template on page 53 of section 1 really helps translate ideas into action. This book is valuable to those who prefer a step by step approach, yet it is flexible enough to be useful to those who have experience in the fild of instructional design.

Beginners & Advanced
Instructional Design Made Easy is a good and useful book. It describes a systematic process for designing instruction and illustrates the steps in the process. In addition, it provides examples of correctly and incorrectly completed steps and checklists for evaluating each step. I recommend it highly for anyone given a training assignment or anyone new to instructional design. It is both readable and sophisticated; experienced instructional designers will find much that is valuable.

missing HPUX and Digital UNIX
This book is very complete for the OS's it covers. However, it doesn't cover HPUX or Digital Unix, which, AFAIK, are pretty popular variants of UNIX (especially HPUX).

Don't get me wrong...it's a real buy. The cross-reference and details (including examples) are excellent, and it's a "must" for persons having to deal with a heterogeneous OS environment; or for admins/users having to get used to a new OS.

I just wish the cover didn't say, "Every Command \ Every Operating System \ Cross-Referenced Together". That, to me, is misleading.

UCG book in research and teaching
I had waited a long time for a book that could serve me as "manual pages" for different operating systems.

Best part of this book is that if you are familiar with one OS you can now find the similar command in another OS. Afterall, when learning commands of a new OS the most difficult part (atleast for myself) was to ask the right questions - what can you do in this OS? I've used the book to find right commands for optimizing my Linux environment for heavy Matlab use and the book has served it's purpose well.

Because of good indexing of the book I feel that it is also good material for university students, especially for Operating systems courses.

There is one bad thing about the book, though. It is extremely big and heavy - and will probably ruin your bookbag ;D

A "must have"
I have got my hands on one of the first copies of Universal Command Guide - and - I'm really really impressed!!
I can understand why this book havent been out before and why it has taken Guy Lotgering and the UCG team 3 years to write it!
Both in my former work as a IT manager and my work today as area manager and projectleader I see a great use of the book. Even if I'm a 99,9% Windows user, every now and then it happens that I need to do something at a Netware or Unix, and even Mac machine and until now it has been a lot of guesses what command to use. But now - with UCG I can take the Cross Reference, see what my "normal" command name is in Windows and directly see what the command is in the other OS. If I need to know switches and so on I switch to the command part and there it is!
I also see a great need for it in my "normal" Windows enviroment - I found a lot of commands and switches that is useful but until now I dont have had a clue that they existed - or what they do!
So my advice - BUY IT! It's realy worth the money!
I have only find one disadvantage - I would really want to have it with me when I travel to my customers - and in that case I have to "work out" to get more muscles first!! It's HEAVY!

Terrific book on the buyer's motives
I finally discovered why I am not making more sales. I have been plateaued for 5 years. this book opened my eyes and showed me that if I understand where my buyer is in their process, I can then time my sales thoughts. Every sales person should read this book.

Excellent Sales Book
This book gave me a good over view of the sales process and specifics on how to relate to the buyer. I have read many sales books, but this one hits the mark. I would recommend anyone who is either a professional sales person or striving to be one read this book. It goes way beyond basic sales training and gets into the mind of the buyer and the seller. Great Job.

Why People Buy
This is an incredible book with great insights for CPA's and attorneys. This author brings new understanding to the buyer's process and helped me see why I was losing client opprotunities. I think any professional - whether in direct sales or not should read this. Great Book.

War on the Floor: An Average Guy Plays in the Arena Football League, and Lives to Write About It

A new perspective
People often wonder what it would be like to live life over again - what they might change if they knew what they know now. I used to think that maybe I could have been more of an athlete and maybe a football player...but this book made me happy to be where I am, which is in the stands, where I belong. This book provides you a fabulous firsthand look at the life of a football player from inside the locker room and on the field. It's sometimes humorous, sometimes serious, but very entertaining the whole way through.

Even though it's the Arena League and not the NFL, it's no less of an accomplishment to make it to this level of competition. This really hits home when Jeff describes one player who quit the Firebirds training camp saying that he had no idea that guys in this league were as good as they were.

The opportunity for a writer to join a team in this manner to get this perspective and this story may never happen again, so if you ever thought you'd like another shot at life to become one of those guys you see on television, read this book...then join me in the stands.

"Axel" Foley, Professional Football Player
Jeff Foley has done what most every American male wishes they could do - play professional football!! In his book, Jeff puts the reader through try-outs, practice, road trips, physicals, the locker room, pre-game nerves, and most importantly, the game itself. The reader gets to "feel" what it is like to be a part of the Arena Football League.

Well written, well told, and a great read! For fans of football, sports, or just good books, War on the Floor will not disappoint!

Behind the scenes on the playing field in arena football
I was very excited to read "War on the Floor" when I heard about it. I am a big Firebird's fan, and even though I didn't know about the team when they were in Albany, there are still some players that are on the Indiana team, and they by far are the best group of guys you'll ever meet!
Jeff tells about what it was like in the everyday routine of getting up early and having to be on a cold, rainy field to practice for the team. When he first arrived at training camp, the guys weren't sure if he was for real about playing and writing about the team. As days went by, Jeff became one of the guys, and he was determined to stick with the practices and "gassers", (and you'll just have to find out what I mean by this by reading the book)! Jeff endured the pain and the joy of being on an arena football team and tells what it is like and the determination to not quit when you start something! It talks about how the team members encouraged Jeff to not quit and to keep on!
Even if you are not a Firebirds fan, I think you will enjoy the book for its sincerity, laughs and plain downright competition.
As you will see, once a Firebird, always a Firebird!! I am waiting for the 2nd Edition of the "Tales of Achmel"! Happy reading!
