Beans in California
I have a bookcase full of cookery books, BUT, "Easy Beans" and "More Easy Beans" are two of my top favorites. All the recipes I have tried are delicious, and best of all for a busy professional, quick and easy to make when I come home tired at the end of the day. As an MD interested in nutrition, I can heartily recommend the recipes in these books for the good of your heart. Well done, authors!

EASY BEANS - The best bean/pea/lentil cookbook ever!
This wonderful book took all the mystery out of cooking with all types of beans, peas and lentils. The recipes are versatile, nutritious and extremely simple to prepare. The authors' blurb at the beginning of each recipe is informative and quite often humourous. The Leek & Lentil Soup (page 28) has now become a weekly favourite of both my family and co-workers!! And as a final added bonus, the binding lies flat on the counter for easy reading while cooking. What more could a busy chef ask for?!

Thank-you,Easy Beans and More...
As a fairly recently converted Vegetarian, I was thrilled to discover "Easy Beans", then, joy!!! "More Easy Beans". These 2 have become my most-used EVER cook books. I have wowed family and friends with various soups, dips, casseroles, chilis, etc. etc. etc. Thank-you so much. More More Beans please.

Soup Primer
I learned to make soups using this book when it was first released. Instructions were easy to follow, and the results was dependable and delicious! I misplaced the book a few years ago so am looking forward to turning to these recipes once again!

Heriteau does it again!
Need we be surprised? Once again Heriteau delivers an exceptionally tasty assortment from her kitchen to ours...and just in time for me to add it to my Christmas-giving list. She is truly blessed, as are we, in turn!

The best soup books I've seen
I have quite a few soup books, but this is the only one that receives regular use, and which I know I can count on for a delicious recipe each and every time. The book is simple, not containing many pictures or illustrations, but has hundreds of recipes in it from around the world. This is one of the only soup books I've seen which had multiple (no less than 5) different recipes and styles for tomato soup, it's selection is huge. It is obvious from the dialogue that the author is a soup lover and uses these recipes daily in her home, just like it should be. She details what makes soups not just good, but fantastic, like how to pick your ingredients for maximum flavor. There is a short section before each category of soups where she gives an overview of that soup, some insider tips on preparation, as well as suggestions on building a meal around them. Truly a great cook book, and a must for any soup lover.

Inspiring collection of factual stories
In "Mother Power" author Jacqueline Plumez builds a convincing case that there is a change occurring around the world as women discover their real power. Looking at factual events that have occurred and are still occurring she takes us through example after example of women coming together to change their world. Examples from the book include the mothers who organized in Argentina to stop the disappearance of their children when the police, political system, and even the church would do nothing. Or the mothers that organized to demonstrate against the violence in Northern Ireland and the reduction in violence that resulted. Or the group of mothers in Larchmont, New York who started an organization to help with the domestic needs of the terminally ill.

Mother power does not only occur on such large scales creating groups and organizations to change the world, but also on much smaller scales. The author demonstrates this with stories such as the mother whose son wrote the Pulitzer Prize winning novel "A Confederacy of Dunces". Her son was unsuccessful at getting it published and when she reread it after his death she decided that it should be published. Her story of how she continued after multiple rejections and dead ends shows how her belief in her son's novel carried her through to finally getting it published.

This book is a great collection of factual stories that show how women and the instincts and qualities of motherhood are changing the world, sometimes one person at a time, sometimes whole nations at a time. "Mother Power" is a highly recommended read.

An old dog can learn new tricks
After being given this book by my son, I quickly skimmed through and wondered if this book would be appropriate for a middle-aged woman who is slowing down - not gearing up. After reading the book, however, I realized that Dr. Plumez had presented an uplifting perspective of the qualities that woman sometimes find themselves apologizing for - such as nagging - and showing how these unique qualities can and have been used as effective agents of change. These maternal qualities - being protective, being peacemakers, being emotional and fair and others - are all qualities that can transform the world if used appropriately. Mother Power gives many examples of how these qualities did, in fact, lead to change throughout the world and how these qualities helped the author deal with the greatest tragedy a mother can deal with - the illness and loss of her beloved son. The book is well organized and moves from story to story seamlessly. I have recommened this book to my book club and I anticipate a deep discussion of how we have all used these qualities in our own lives to accomplish our goals.

Mother Power
This book is not only inspirational, it is enlightening.
The fascinating stories about women (not all of whom are mothers)who have changed the world in positive ways is just one more reason to read this book. Dr.Plumez has found a way not only to entertain us, but also to give all of us a real boost!

Adorable! A great childrens fantasy.
I have always loved reading, but when my first grade teacher gave me this book when i was six, I read a little of it, then put it down. It wasn't until six years later, I was browsing my book shelves filled with my childhood books that I found this book again. It was a school morning, but I picked it up anyways and started reading it. I couldn't put it down! Sure, it wasn't my reading level, but it was a sweet book, written in a way that makes you want to know what happens next. It's about a little boy named Nick who gets an Aussie puppy named Aleasha instead of his wish-a sister. Aleasha wants Nick to play with her like he would a real little girl, but he doesn't. So she comes up with a plan. She will turn into a human. What happens next? Read the book to find out, or read another review that theaches you more about it. Whatever!! But it's a really sweet book.

An enchanting fantasy for young dog lovers!
The Puppy Sister is a fantasy to be enjoyed by young or the young at heart. Alesha, a Aussie puppy doesn't understand why Nick (her owner)doesn't treat her like a person. Then, as she realizes that she isn't human, she decides that she can become a human. A true masterpice!

A very funny book that is sure to make children laugh.
This is a very funny book that is sure to make children laugh. Even the student who doesn't like to read will enjoy this book. The illustrations that are included in the book help the reader visualize exactly what the puppy sister looks like. I would recommend it for anyone, ages 8 and up, especially animal lovers. The theme of the book evolves around dogs, brothers and sisters, and family life. After reading this book, readers will never look at their pets in the same way again. The Puppy Sister is the type of book that can be read either privately or aloud to an entire class. This would be an excellent book to use during a discussion of brother and sister relationships. It could also be used with students who are planning on getting a new pet. After reading this book, students will realize just how closely animals sometimes resemble people - both in their actions and looks.

Wow!!!!
She did it again! Jacqueline Fiedler has created another fantastic story. I would advise not reading this at bedtime, otherwise you'll be up until the wee morning hours because you HAVE to find out what happens next. It's a real page-turner with a totally unpredictable ending. DQ fans will notice a very strong resemblence between the hero in this book and our hero of the small screen (another reason you'll enjoy the book!). There's something in this book to attract almost every reader...mystery, adventure, romance, humor, wildlife conservation, etc.

Well done Jazz! I look forward to your next one.

Major page turner!!
I can not say enough about this book. I read the book in less then a day. I could not put it down. I truley hope Jacqueline Fiedler will continue with this series. The character of Caroline is very believable, especially for a clutz like myself. If you like to be very suprised by an ending, that you thought you had figured out than this is the book for you.

Fun and educational read
This book addressed several things that interest me: Prairie restoration and the behavior of wolves while providing a fun and fast-paced "who done it" read. I really enjoyed this one. The humour at times remined me of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum.

When the parents split up, where do you fit in?
Andy West's parents have divorced and have started new lives with other partners. Andy is to spend one week with her mother and the "Baboon" and his miserable children. While there, she is forced to share her step-sister Katie's room, and Katie goes out of her way to make Andy miserable. On the weeks Andy stays with her dad and his "new agey" wife Carrie, she shares a room with 5 year old twins Zen and Crystal, and their mess. To add to the misery, Carrie is pregnant. The only one who understands's Andy's confusion is her constant companion Radish, a tiny toy rabbit. Radish understands how Andy misses the tiny cottage she and her parents shared. Radish understands how hard it is to make people you barely know, your family. Radish understands how hard it is to remember all your schoolwork and belongings when you stay at two places. All Andy wants is a place for her and Radish to feel at home. One day she and Radish discover a tiny, hidden garden, that they long to make their own. This is a sensitive story of divorce and one child trying to cope with events out of her control. Once again, Jacqueline Wilson has displayed an uncanny understanding of the needs of a child, and a true ear for dialog. This is a sweet book and a must read for anyone you know who has been touched by divorce.

Bags of fun - The Suitcase Kid review by B O'Problem
Andrea is a ten year old kid on the move. It's a tough decision between Mum with the Baboon or Dad and Carrie. Will she be on the move forever? The answer lies in the story. A delightful one to please the kids.

Very Realistic
This book is about Andrea (Andy) West. It is a funny, realistic and usually quite moving story! I would advise it to anyone who would give The Lottie Project 5 stars!

Also Known As Snot
Published in Paperback by Lothian Books (01 August, 2003)
Author: Jacqueline Harvey
Amazon base price: $9.95
Average review score:

Mrs Harvey is the Best!!!! Teachers can write too!
This is the best book! It is really amazing when you actually know the author personally! Not only in Jacquie Harvey a really good writer, she is the best teacher I have ecver had!

The book is about a girl, whose parents are divorced and all these cool and wacky things happen to her, her friends and her dog Roll-up, Rolly.

A really funny book!
'Also Known as Snot' follows the adventures of 10 year old Penelope Estella Grace Scott, as she tries to find her divorced mum a new partner. She has a gorgeous dog called Roll Up and two of the best friends a girl could ever want. The book is set in a sleepy seaside town called Dolphin Shores (which Snot calls Dolphin Snores) because according to her nothing exciting ever happens there! Snot is a really fun character with loads of energy. I think this is one of the best books I've read in a long time. I can't wait until it comes out and then the sequel after that. You see I'm lucky because my teacher wrote it and I've already heard this one and the next - it's called More Snot. But all of you kids out there who haven't read it should make sure that you do.

Teachers can write good books, you know
Being a reader who happens to love books, I must say, even though I cannot write a decent story, my old Year Five teacher can.

Having already heard the book, and its sequel which will be coming out soon, straight from the author herself, I just can't say that it isn't suitable for anyone. Maybe people who can't take a joke, yes, but that's all.

'Snot', as she prefers to be called, is on a quest to find her mum a 'Mr Right' after her parents divorce. Laughs ensue. That's all I can say, besides the fact that 'Also known as Snot' is the first book of three (according to the author) and that it is a great read.

Jacqueline is an exciting writer; her book has it all; suspense; mystery; sex; romance. Looking forward to many more from a talented writer.

Climax--True to Its name
Excellent work by this author. Having bought my autographed copy of the book at Sunset Beach, NC (where some of the book takes place) made it even sweeter to me that it was a worthwhile read. I highly recommend it for maintaining a high leve of intrigue.

Climax: Jack DeGroot
I highly recommend reading this book. It was very interesting, and kept me on the edge of my seat. I vacation at Sunset Beach, NC every summer so that made the book more interesting for me. I think Jack is a very talented writer. The characters in the book were all very strong.

Highly recommend this book to all!

Desiree's Baby
Published in Audio Cassette by Commuters Library (1994)
Authors: Kate Chopin and Jacqueline Kinlow
Amazon base price: $18.95
Average review score:

This Ironic Tale is Superb!
In this poignant story the main character, Armand Aubigny, assumes that it is his wife's (Desiree) fault that their young son has Negroid features. He assumes this because when he first met and fell in love with her, she had no real knowledge about who her parents were and where she came from. Feeling shame and disillusioned about his marriage, Armand forces his wife and son away from his home and life forever. But by the end of the story, he stumbles upon a family secret which makes him, not Desiree, directly responsible for the Negroid features of his son. He discovers that his own mother, " . . . belongs to the race that is cursed with the brand of slavery." This bit of irony in the end is cleverly done and establishes Kate Chopin's final point - that the only difference that exist between white and black, is in the imagination of a society that exclusively decides its own racial purity!

Memorable
I first read this at school in England where I was taught Literature by a Texan. Although I appreciated the clever delivery and beautiful poignancy of this story, I did not realise that it would live in memory. Knowing only the character's names, I have looked for this book for 19 years. Thanks to your website, I have finally found it.

This is a magnificent tale which I would recommend wholeheartedly.

Memorable
I read this book seventeen years ago when I was at school in England, being taught 'Literature' by a Texan. At the time I thought it a poignant story, and as years have passed the story of Desiree and Armand have lived with me. I couldn't remember the author, or even the title of the story, but was determined to search it out. Thanks to this website, I have managed just that. I would not hesitate in recommending this sad, strange story to all, but warn you that it is a truly unforgettable piece of literature.

Interesting reading, thoughtful insights
Easy to read in a colloquial, flowing style the narrative presents overwhelming concepts in a pattern thoughtful and clear. It's helpful to see how the authors support each observation with research, data and case studies. The book is presented in such a way that it can address a broad audience both in age and stage of life. If you do buy this book however, please keep in mind that relationships do not have to be "all ebb-flow-all oceans come an end" which is what the authors suggest.

Cheaper than therapy and just as useful
While reading this book I found myself thinking that it would be great to have the authors as therapists for me and my spouse. By the time I was finished I felt I had, feelings shared by my spouse, who also read it. This book manages to pack an amazing amount of useful information into a small enough volume that my usual excuse - I don't have the time to read - could not be applied to avoid it. With its good-humored, down-to-earth yet professional style I found it reader-friendly and genuinely instructive.

If your marriage is not an absolute wreck this book could help you save a considerable amount of money by either obviating the need for, or shortening the length of, marriage counseling.

Friends of marriage
Reading this book about marriage is like talking to wise and thoughtful friends who know what it takes to make it work. They are friends of marriage, describing it with compassion, and prescribing commitment, flexibility, attention, respect for its rhythms, and tender loving care. I think this book is even better than the authors' first (on loneliness) and that anyone who reads it will be graced with insights into his own relationships, supported by fascinating field trips to a range of fields of knowledge as well as the sound seconding of intuition.
