Excellent Home School Resource!
Excellent Homeschool resourse for my Learning disabled Child on the Oregon Trail and Settlers. This is all visual, and Cause and effect is easy to understand in this titles' format. The great aspects of this book is the feelings of the native peoples along the way are taken into consideration, and also significatly the way this Path took its toil in the women of the movement westward. Very senstive! We used the PC game "Oregon Trail" ( latest edition) to introduce the subject, which excites them to want to know more once they get invested in the game, and this text explains for a 11-year old, pretty much all the other issues in a three-dimentional aspect that the PC game does not even touch. The PC game Oregon Trial rasied alot fo questions that this book answers fully. So glad I found this series! I used this for my 11-year old whom is learning disabled, but most children younger can also benefit from this text in addtion to regular school studies on the subject.

History of the American West for the budding MTV generation
This is a fabulous book. As a museum educator I am always on the look out for a children's book that will hold the kids interest and get them excited about history. This is the book!

The layout is great. It is almost as if the authors took the concept of computer interactives and laid them out on paper. That may not sounds terribly enticing but it is -- and it works. The information is thoughtfully prepared and presented in a way that kids should love. Questions at the bottom of each page encourage kids to jump from one topic to another as they make their journey, by covered wagon, across the American West. All the hazards and pitfalls are included, along with several vingettes of the daily life of various members of a wagon train. This is a book that shows history as vital, exciting and human.

Still the best
I read this book when I was 13 and tried to find it again for years. This is still the best biography of JBK ever written. It's tasteful, warm, witty and touching. It was written at the happiest time of Jacqueline Kennedy's life and it really shows. Also, it's the only biography that was written in part with JBK's cooperation. If you collect Kennedy books, you must have this one.

A review of jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy
This book is great. I give it two thumbs up. The book actually takes you into the life of Americas first lady. The book expresses jackies thaughts and feelings toward the Kennedy family. The book also gives Jackie credit for her intelligence and talks about her education and where she received her education from. This is a part of Jackie you have never seen before. The style that the author uses to write this book is also quite impressive. So many books that have been written in regrds of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy do not give facts about her individual self as this book has done. Most books over Jacqueline tell us only about her life with Mr. Kennedy and her life after his death, but this book gives us information about her life and who she was apart from the Kennedys.

Review by my ... daughter Ashley
I love this book because she gets out of bed and then she starts imagining things like as if there's monkeys dancing and then she thinks that there are ghosts on her roof.

My favorite thing about Katie is that she imagines. I like this book because it is fun and it has a good ending.

There are nice pictures in this book because she was drawn with curly hair kind of, I think.

Mommies and Daddies should buy this book for their kids because it is fun.

A lyrical romp through the world of a child's imagination.
This book is one of the best children's books I have ever read. It not only captures the world of a child's imagination in fun rhythms and bright images, it speaks to the depths of the mother and daughter relationship. The tension between the mother, reading stories to quiet and calm her child so she will rest, and the unbridled energy of her daughter's robust romp through the jungle of her imagination--and her dreams--touched the very essence of my feelings as a daughter, and a mother of a little girl. This is a perfectly crafted story, woven out of the poetic imagination and language of a truly gifted writer. More than a story, it is a song to celebrate the spirit of the little girl in us all, who, like Katie, "still wanted more."

A gorgeously illustrated look at the planets of the gods
One of the things companies making collectible trading cards have done is to add "foil" to cards to make them rarer and therefore more expensive. I have never been particularly fond of either the marketing technique or the aesthetics of this particular practice, but I may have to change my mind after reading "Kingdom of the Sun: A Book of the Planets." This National Geographic Book introduces young readers to the planets of our solar system by not only telling them about the features of the planets but also comparing them to the god/desses of classical mythology for whom they were named, who tell their stories in the first person. The text of "Kingdom of the Sun" is written by Dr. Jacquelin Mitton; in 1990 Asteroid 4027 was named Mitton by the International Astronomical Union in honor of Dr. Mitton and her husband, Simon, who is also an astronomer. However, what immediately catches your eye is the gorgeous artwork by Christina Balit. For each of the planets, along with the sun and moon, Balit has created a painting showing the appropriate god/dess in all of their glory over the heavenly object. The brilliantly colored paintings are embossed with gold foil and if you look carefully you can find the astrological sign for each planet in both the border panel and somewhere on the god/dess. I especially like the contrast between the more naturalistic depictions of the planets with the finely stylized representations of the god/desses. The back of the book includes statistical information about our solar system along with a glossary of terms from astronomer to volcano. Mitton and Balit had worked together previously on "Zoo in the Sky," a similar book about the animal constellations, and I cannot imagine that it is any less exquisite than "Kingdom of the Sun." This is such a beautiful book that you have to remind yourself that it is educational as well. This book can be used as a transition from mythology to astronomy or the other way around.

A truly beautiful gift book
Kingdom Of The Sun: A Book Of The Planets a truly exciting picturebook that takes young readers on a cosmic tour through the solar system. Published by the National Geographic Society, Kingdom of the sun is filled with scientific facts about each planet as well as mythological lore about the gods after whom the planets are named. The color illustrations of the ancient gods and their planets against the backdrop of space are particularly striking, and the eye-catching use of shiny gold foil makes Kingdom Of The Sun a picturebook that compels admiration. The last two pages feature a short glossary and a table of facts about the sun, moon, and planets. Wonderfully written by Jacqueline Mitton and superbly illustrated by Christina Balit, Kingdom of the Sun is a truly beautiful gift book, superb for sparking an interest in science and astronomy in young people, and very highly recommended.

COLOR OF WORDS
SOME WILL THINK THAT SEEING A PAINTING IS BETTER THAN READING A BOOK ABOUT IT, BUT, SOMETIMES THE STORY THAT IS BEHIND EACH WORK MAKES YOU CLOSER TO THE ARTIST.

THIS BOOK CAN BE THE WAY TO REACH THE MAGNIFICIENT WORLD OF KOKOSCHKA, HIS LOVE STORY WITH A WOMAN AND THE PAINTING.

I think this is one of the best - if not THE best.
I am a high school student and I remember my mom reading a lot to me when I was a child. This book, "The Little Rabbit Who Wanted Red Wings" is/was one of my all time favorites. The illustrations (in the edition that I own) are wonderful and I would recommend it to any parent. I will deffinately read it to my children someday. The reason I'm writing this is because I'm reading it for my drama class tomorrow. I'm sure everyone, even the high school students, will enjoy this book.

A book for life
My aunt Theodora gave me this book in 1947. I am very glad to see that it has been reprinted. People need to be careful what they wish for in life. They may get it. People should be happy with their situation in life and quit wishing for something different. The little rabbit keeps wishing for things and wishing for things and finally he gets red wings. No one likes him as his new self and so he wishes himself back to his original condition. I am reading this book to a group of preschoolers today, (March 4) as part of NEA read to a child day. I can't wait to hear their reaction.

You shouldn't miss it! ¡¥The Littles Go Exploring¡¦
Once I saw this book ¡¥The Littles Go Exploring¡¦,
written by John Peterson, the natural colour and the beautiful picture of the cover attract me to choose this book.
The story was said about some tiny people who went exploring to find an old man called Grandpa Little. He was a smart man who was the first little to understand electricity and had made the trip to explore the place, but unfortunately he is unsuccessful and lost his way.
After I read it,I think the most interesting part was the part about the Littles family found Grandpa Little.they tries to solve all theproblems when they went exploring.
I think the main character Tom and Lucy were the cleverest and bravest children in the family. They told their parents immediately when they discovered the secret room and they discuss with them.It shows that they were cooperative with the family members. Also, when UncleNick said that he needed two volunteers to go along,Tom answered that he could go very quickly.he didn¡¦t mind to lose his life tio find Grandpa Little. And Lucy, she was curious about everything and had her own decisions.Although she was very little, she provided a lot of opinions about the plan to find Grandpa Little. It shows that she was a wise girl and did all the things sensibly.
I really enjoy this book because of two reasons.First of all,I think the story is very interesting,it made me easily to put in it.Also,it is very meaningful, because it can tell us a lot of things about our life.I hope I can make myself clever, brave, confidentand mature like Tom and Lucy.I think this book is suitable for everyone,so I think you shouldn¡¦t miss it!

It is a book about little people.
I think this is a good book because it keeps you interested. This is probably the best book I ever read. Let me tell you what the book is about. The story is about old Grandpa Little who everyone thinks is dead except Granny Little until Tom and Lucy find a secret room with Grandpa Little's journal. And then the Littles go exploing to find out that Grandpa Little is not dead. This is a good book for any age and so are all The Littles books. If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would.

BOOK DESCRIPTION
The war within is always hardest won, Lucien de Montegnier knew, for he daily battled demons from his past. Still, his fighting prowess had won him an unexpected boon: Lady Alayna of Avenford, a hellcat with a heart who alone could save him from his greatest enemy- himself! * Widowed before she was truly a wife, Alayna of Avenford now found herself claimed as a war prize by Lucien de Montregnier, a warrior as well known for his fierce nature as he was for his skill in battle. She despised him, of course. But why, then, did his merest glance ignite her very soul?

Stunning!! A really good read!!
This, as it says on the inside front cover, is Ms. Navin's first book. (?) Anywho, she plots an amazing story, about true love and it's very bumpy cource. This book portrays a man, Lucien de Montregnier, who is beset by demons from his past. Returning from slavery to kill his fathers murdurer, he is confronted by Lady Alayna of Avenford, a saucy woman who was widowed before her husband, whom she despised by the way, could make her his wife in truth. Sparks immediatly fly, but pride on both sides prevents them from sucoming(sorry, I have no clue how to spell that word)to their deepest desires. Lucien, trying to find peace, discoveres the exact opposite when, to strengthen his claim to the lordless barony left vacent by the death of Alayna's husband, marries Alayna.
This is a touching story. The only fault I can find is that Alayna is in the beginning, a spoiled little brat with too much pride, and a kind heart hidden away under insults and arrogance. All in All, Ms Navin, a wonderful read and I can't wait to get to the library to pick up another!!!
(PS, this book was sooooo good, I started at 7 o'clock and finished at around 9:45!!!!! I couldn't put it down!!!!
