Comprehensive Volume on Black Women in Film
This book should be required reading for any student of American cinema. All too often, independent filmmakers (particularly women) are ignored in other books. When they are mentioned, the discussion is limited to only one or two people. This is because many of the films are rarely shown outside of film festivals (and occassionally cable). Black women filmmakers did not start with Gina Prince-Bythewood (LOVE AND BASKETBALL), Kasi Lemmons (EVE'S BAYOU) or even Julie Dash (DAUGHTERS OF THE DUST). In reality, it started long before any of these women were even born. This book tells the story through essays and often through their own words of the struggles of Black women film and video makers. What is also great about this book is the comprehensive video/filmography in the rear of the volume. It includes not only feature films, but numerous shorts as well (including important student projects). Importantly, it also lists the distributors of these films, so that others may discover them. Filmmakers mentioned in the book that have gone on into features include Zeinabu irene Davis (COMPENSATION which screened at Sundance in 2000) and Cauleen Smith (Urbanworld Fest Winner for DRYLONGSO). These and films like them need to be seen by a wider audience. Hopefully, this book will inspire people to seek them out and to encourage this and other women to make more wonderful films.

Finally! A wonderful book on Black Women Filmmakers.
There has been a large desire to know more about the thoughts, history, and films of Black Women Filmmakers. This anthology edited by Jacqueline Bobo, covers areas from the early pioneers such as Eloyce Gist in the 1920's to the current rung of documentary, animation, and narrative filmmakers in the United States. Some of the filmmakers covered are Jacqueline Shearer, (Eyes on the Prize) Carol Munday Lawrence (Kwanzaa series), and Michelle Parkerson ("...But Then She's Betty Carter", "Gotta Make This Journey:Sweet Honey in the Rock"," A Lithany for Survival: The Life and Work of Audre Lorde")

Fantastic story-telling. I cried at the end.
This is a book for all age readers. I picked it to read a few pages to grad students in my reading methods class as a tradebook that could be used to teach local area (VA/MD/PA) history, realistic way of portraying war, character development, or just a good read. Thank goodness I read it ahead of time--I cried at the ending. Beautifully told with uplifting ending even tho' the main character dies in battle (as he did in real life).

This was a great book.
Through suspense and and comedy this book portrays a realistic character. When you read this book you feel like you are right there. Charley seems just like the hundreds of young men who jumped at the chance to serve their country. Written by Edith Morris Hemingwy, I would recommend this book any day.

Fascinating exploration of Lovecraft's realms of dream
While this is primarily a game book, "The Complete Dreamlands" is a well-researched (for the most part) guide that collates information from Lovecraft, Lumley, and other authors (as well as some bits added by the book's creators) together- painting a terrific portrait of this fantastical counterpart to the "real" Cthulhu Mythos universe.

Lovecraft at his best!
If you like Lovecraft you will love this it is quite amazing. You will find all sorts of useful stuff i got and im still playing it !

GLORY!
Jackie Mccullough is truly Gods anointed woman. Her ministry is outstanding. Her book and tape teaching series have truly changed my life!

I was healed from a lot of hurt, and also learned how to deal with the day to day problems that Christians face.

I would highly recommend her book and teaching tapes to anyone that is seeking an inner healing and a closer walk with the Lord.

Poetic Woman of God!
I was truly impressed and inspired by the Rev.Jackie McCullough's book of poetry, punctuated phrases and sermonettes. This is an anointed woman of God who has been blessed with so many talents. "In Quietness and Confidence", our emotions are arrested and our minds are challenged. This book inspires the reader to have the utmost trust in God, and it's truly beautiful. It's a must for anyone who loves the ministry of Jackie McCullough. Many people don't know this, but Reverend McCullough is a God-gifted poet and lyricist. Her poetry is moving, inspiring, and soul changing. She also wrote all the lyrics to her musical album which shows that God does not only minister through her in speech, but in literary words as well.

I read her book daily, because in it I find meaning for every aspect of life we face. It's truly a daily meditation. It will usher one into a new place of stillness, attentiveness and rest where God desires to impart confidence, security and balance. This is truly a blessed book filled with over a hundred pages of Jackie McCullough's poetry and celestial words of the Spirit and encouragement, plus the photos of various settings give meaning to the written words. I recommend this book to everyone, but especially those who love Jackie McCullough's ministry, because it'll give you a view into the mind, heart and soul of this anointed woman of God!

"For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not." Isaiah 30:15.

A perfect romantic read!
This is a enchanting book I can read again and again and each time it leaves me satisfied and happy. Normally romantic paperbacks are very forgottable but this story and characters have stayed with me. I read it as a schoolgirl and 20 years later I picked up a copy from a second-hand bookstall and still love it the same way.

The writing is good, the leads Adam and Elizabeth are appealing and the relationship develops in a very plausible way. What I liked best is that the characters stay emotionally consistent. Compared to current books in the genre it is very subtle. There are many breathtaking moments even though passion is implied rather that described. And it is unusually literate - chapters begin with quotations, Adam chooses a poetry book for Elizabeth and a poem from it helps her to sort out her feelings.

A magical tale of romance and the stage.
"Dear Villian" is a romance that delivers. After reading this book, you'll need to order other Jacqueline Gilbert books. Characters you know and love will appear in various stories. Most of all you'll enjoy appearances by Adam and Liz, the lovers of "Dear Villian".

The Doll House
I found the book to be wonderful as it mirrors the delicate sense of imagination that children can bring to doll houses. I plan to use it in my classroom as an example of excellent descriptive writing and mood. The illustrations are also exquisite. Any lover of dollhouses will adore this book!

It was much better than I was expecting!
You would think this book was just about a doll house, but it was about little people who moved into a doll house, and became friends with the little girl who owned it. I wish I had someone move into a doll house in my room! Blaire - age 8

Faery Folk Are Everywhere...
Seventeen charming poems and large brightly colored full page illustrations make up this wonderful book about the inhabitants of Fairyland which just so happens to be all around us if we have the eyes to see it. This book treats us to the inside scoop on 16 different beings as a little girl searches for the magical folk living around her. You will meet some of the lesser known beings such as the Pointed People, imps, a leshy, spriggans, hobgoblins and the banshee, along with our old favorites the fairies, pixies, leprechauns and sprites. The poems come from the pens of different writers, all wonderfully talented and each gives us a light-hearted private glimpse into the lives of the wee folk. A sample: "And the grayish cobweb under the oak? A scrap torn off of a banshee's cloak." You'll have fun searching the details on each page to spy out the fairies and goblins that are hiding in the nooks and crannies. Children (and fairies) of all different races grace the pages of this book and add to its hopeful and positive outlook. It's entirely possible to find the evidence of fairies everywhere...why not take a look?

Magical!
This is a great book for kids and adults alike who are fascinated by fantasy. Ms. Rogers' illustrations are wonderful. It was so much fun to spend time pouring over the pictures to find all the little hidden characters hiding in the illustrations. The only difficulty was picking a favorite!

Ghost of a drowned fisherman
The ghost of a drowned fisherman rows his boat across the moonpath by night, leaving it waterlogged among the lake weeds by day... Or was it only imagination that propelled the boat? The four RIchards children and their friend Kenny frighten themselves nearly out of their wits trying to find the answer to this question. They also have a very good time, as will the reader who stays with them right through the Chamber of Horrors, featuring a set of pickled tonsils (taken from inside of book)

I may be a bit nostalgic in my rating...
I read this book about 30 years ago. I enjoyed the tale of this group of friends and their storytelling gatherings. I recommended this to my stepson when he couldn't find something to interest him, (he doesn't like to read), and he truly enjoyed this story too. Great tale for 4-6 grade readers.
