A must have favorite for any preschooler who love trains.
This has to rate up there with favorites such as Mike Mulligan and others. A great and easy book to read outloud. My three year old knows it by heart and "reads" along with me. Great Cuddle time book. He loves the pictures and the sound effects we make. A must have for any preschooler who love trains and fun stories! he had taken this book out so often at our local library, we decided to get him his own copy and give other kids a chance to enjoy it.

Beautiful and Imaginative
This author is brilliant. With the exquisite use of detail and color, he masterminds a story that has captivated my little ones from the day we bought this story. Kurt Cyrus also has another book, "Tangletown", that is actually his debut book and, like "Oxmox", is wondrous in its tale. He is one of the best I've seen (I teach kindergarten), and I cannot wait for another book of his to be published. I see this author as a future prize-winner for his illustrations, and cannot wait for another book of his to be published. Such talent!

A wonderful book for preschoolers!
Slow Train to Oxmox is a fantastic book for preschool-age children. The language and story are engaging, and the illustrations are beautiful and interesting. I enjoy looking at them as much as my 3-year-old! He never tires of the story. I can't recommend this book enough!

A Visually Stunning Book, Black and White at its finest
This book is both very beautiful and informative. Kurt's images allow you to really see the artist and the surroundings that help them create their work. Kurt looks at both their outer body and their inner soul.

I highly recommend this book for any person who loves both Art and Photography

Artists in Their Environment
I met Kurt about 5 years ago. He was teaching a class at The Workshops in Rockport, Maine. I was immediately impressed with Kurt's work and his uncanny ability to capture the essence of his subject at the defining moment. Kurt's vision is timeless, and this work demonstrates his ability to make powerful images with only Tri-X and available light. This is an excellent book for the serious amateur photographer who wants to refine his own photographic vision. You won't be disappointed.

"Art in Residence: West Coast Artists in Their Space"
I have been one of Kurt Edward Fishback's students for the past year and have been looking forward to the publication of this book. It is truly an extraordinary and prodiqious work and should be of interest to everyone. It makes artists accessable to the public. Lonnie

COWPUNCHER
Kurt Markus' COWPUNCHER is a stunner! In conception and execution it is simply the finest cowboy photography book ever produced and sets a lofty new standard for the genre.

Cowpuncher by Kurt Markus
Cowpuncher by Kurt Markus has won the Western Heritage Award presented once a year by the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City for the most "Outstanding Art Book of the Year". Award ceremony will be held in Oklahoma City on the 21st April.

Cowpuncher - A Book of Real Life, Real Cowboys
When I first started the book, I could not set it down. I could feel myself melt into time as I read on. I felt like I was a cowboy working the range. The smell of fresh coffee, and a cool brisk morning awaited me with every turn of the page. The pictures were beautiful. But even more, they were real.

Up In The Sky! It's a Pig!
It is only inevitable that the indefagatible Frederic Bean, bank manager, newspaper owner, detective, and overall pig extraordinaire should also become an ace barnstormer. How this comes to be is the subject of "Freddy the Pilot" a 1952 effort by Freddy's creator Walter R. Brooks. It all starts when Boomschmidt's Stupendous and Unexcelled Circus returns to Centerboro a bit early so that Mr. Boomschmidt can enlist Freddy's help in solving a dilemma the circus is in.

The star of the circus is the beautiful Mademoiselle Rosa, a bareback rider whose grace and ability are part of the Circus's special magic. Unfortunately, Watson P. Condiment, a very rich, but not particularly nice, comic book publisher has fallen in love with Rosa. Despite her refusal to encourage him, Condiment is fixated on his goal. So intent is he that he is more than willing to destroy the Circus entirely in order to propel Mademoiselle Rose into his arms.

The nefarious Mr. Condiment has tried many rotten tricks to close the Circus down, but the worst is having a plane dive bomb the Circus, blasting the audience with flour bag bombs. Mr. Boomschmidt keeps having to return the crowd's ticket money and is in great danger of going broke. Freddy summons his courage and decides to beard the mystery pilot in his den. Our pig shows up at the local air field and takes flying lessons. Soon he has his own plane and is preparing for his counter attack.

Freddy, assisted by his partner Mrs. Wiggins, a troop of Robin Hood-like skunks and the Horrible gang of scurrilous rabbits mount the effort designed to save the Circus and rescue Mademoiselle Rosa. The reader can count on a great deal of fun and excitement as one villain after another is rousted and sent on his way. The ingenious plot will even involve the U.S. Army and Uncle Ben's astonishing combination bomb sight and piggy bank.

Once again we are treated to a lovable adventure which teaches by example rather than lecture. The reader quickly finds out that courage, respect, and teamwork are the keys to success and happiness in Centerboro and the Bean Farm. Although late in the series, "Freddy the Pilot" can stand on its own without losing the reader. Kurt Wiese's original illustrations, always a treat, are exceptional in this volume, making it will worth its reasonable price.

More ideas per page than you can imagine
This is not one of my favorites among the Freddy books (which is only a tiny insult because I like them all so much), but it has more imaginative ideas in it than any other two books in the series. Here you'll find:

- rabbits jumping out of airplanes using umbrellas

- a bombsight that helps you find money

- a comic book publisher terrified when he thinks his characters are coming to life

- skunks fighting with quarterstaffs

and that's just the tip of the iceberg in this densely plotted, multifaceted book. In addition, you have the usual Freddy features of delightfully entertaining and sympathetic characters, gentle satire, and a sense of fun. Highly recommended.

This pig has wings!
This is just one of the 26 Freddy the Pig books written by Walter R. Brooks between 1927 and 1958. Through his many adventures, Freddy, the "Renaissance Pig" of the Bean Farm in Centerboro, New York, is beset by hilarious villains and assisted by a whole barnyard of unforgettable animal friends. In "Pilot" he takes to the air to save a local circus from a more sinister aerial apparition. The Freddy books were written for children, but they're substantial enough for us grown-ups, too. I first read about Freddy 40 years ago, and I'm not tired of him yet. Easily the Peer of Pooh.

Excellent working reference with outstanding sample problems
The first edition was a required college text, but I kept using it so much the cover wore out! The chapters are well laid out, and the sample problems really bring the main concepts into the real world. Every colleague to whom I have shown this book has been impressed.

handy reference- especially for new grads!
This book was required for my first course in mechanical design and I've kept is as a desk reference at work. The book is well organized and practical. The techniques outlined in the later chapters apply good design techniques and provide usable information for machine component designers. I recommend this book to anyone requiring a mechanical reference.

fantastic engineering handbook-a must-have!
This book explains in detail how a good design should be carried out, is easy to read and to use. It really makes engineers happy they chose to be what we are!

Great Book
This book by Kurt Schreckling is very informative, and I could not have built my engine without it.

A selection for anyone who wants to learn about jetmodels.
I had always been in the dark when it came to jet engines, and with one of my phD siblyings only telling me little of what I really wanted to know, I asked a some modelers what book they would recomend to get started. Each pointed to Kurt Schreckling's book and now I point to it as well. He gives a basic introduction into thermaldynamics and other information that is needed to understand the "why's" of the book, but always keeping in mind teh truth that most people who read it are not enginers or physics majors. The book also gives explainations of the asembly prossess the tools one would need, the parts, and in the back of the book: the plans. The book cold almost be called "The Jetmodelers Cook Book"

Excellent reading, easy to understand
I found the book easy to follow and I've found that Kurt Schreckling and Keith Thomas have made an excellent job of bringing the complexities of the gas turbine to a level the average person can understand and learn from.

An easy to read, comprehensive set of books. Just right for supplementing Microsoft Press Training Kits. I am proud to have a 100% success rate in all of my Microsoft exams, in part because of this series of books.

Great for exam cramming
I bought this core pack and the individual IIS and TCP/IP. After taking some classes, it was the perfect tool to cram with. I did not want to go though a 500-700 page book, so 180 or so pages was perfect. I passed one test a week.

A rootin'-tootin' good read!
"Sixteen Cows" is one of those rare children's books that is not only fun for the kiddies, but may actually be more amusing for the adult reading it.

Lonely Cowboy Gene and lovely Cowgirl Sue share a fence, but despite their neighborliness and like herds of eight humorously named bovines, a bit of competition keeps the two at odds. The deus ex machina of a tornado rips down the fence and the cows do the rest, intermingling hopelessly, while refusing to hear the calls to come back to their respective sides. Forced to cooperate, the rival cowpokes finally drop the competition and work together. Can love be far behind?

Clearly there is plenty to like in the book. Many kids' picture books fall down in the text, but not here. Lisa Wheeler's long rhymes capture the reader's heart and flow nicely, complemented well by the sprawling, glowing, watercolor images of Kurt Cyrus. Together there is a synergy that makes this book oddly compelling. Little humorous touches abound - such as the cow names and the items tossed up by the tornado - that may mean more to adults than kids, so while my toddler son likes the book, his dad enjoys it even more. (At the cost of a star, the backstory of the book may be lost on the very young, who may not fully grasp love stories and weddings.)

With its large illustrations and silly/sweet story, this paean to the prairie is clearly designed to be read out loud and often. So pick out your best West Texas drawl, mosey on up to your favorite lil' pardner, and share the fun of "Sixteen Cows."

A Rootin' Tootin' Good Time.....
Meet Cowboy Gene Biddle and Cowgirl Sue Waddle, neighbors and cow lovers, living peacefully on the western prairie. Each went about their daily ranch chores until it was time to call their cows home. Then with a loud and strong voice, each would sing their "come-home song," calling every cow by name. "Now Waddle Ranch was on a hill and sat right next to Biddle./And where each ranch's pasture met, a fence ran down the middle./So Biddle cows and Waddle cows were not in any danger/of getting mixed at grazing time and dining with a stranger." That is, until a fierce Arkansas wind blew that old fence "plumb clean away." Now with their cows all mixed up, what are a couple of cowpokes going to do to separate their herds and bring them home..... Lisa Wheeler's spirited and engaging, happily ever after, good-time story, complete with western dialogue, begs to be read aloud. Her entertaining, rhyming text is full of energy, humor, and wild west fun. Kurt Cyrus' bold and busy artwork captures the story beautifully, and is rich in expressive and charming detail. Together this duo have authored a playful and silly "love story" that is sure to keep your little cowpokes smiling and giggling to the very last page. So find out how sixteen cows finally brought these two lonely ranchers together, and enjoy.

Romantic fun!
Our family loves this book! The rhyming text is an absolute delight to read aloud, and the story line is so much fun. The bridesmaid cows are hilarious. (Makes me want to go out and buy a cow!) This book will be read over and over again in our house. YEEHAW!

A Valuable Resource
Presumably, anyone looking for a synoptic parallel knows what what it's for, but in case not, a brief description might be useful. This book lines up the various pericopes from each gospel in parallel columns, so that their rendition in each can be compared. This allows readers better to discern small, subtle differences among them, and to determine more easily, for instance, who used what source, redaction, theology, and so forth...for instance, Q material is readily apparent when you see that Matthew and Luke contain identical material that isn't present in Mark, and to see this, you don't have to flip back and forth from one gospel to another, because they're all lined up for you, side by side.

One confusing thing about this book is that there is notational nomenclature our the kazoo, which isn't very well explained. For instance, you will notice that the Gospel names at the head of each column is occasionally bolded. Sometimes all of them are. Sometimes they're bracketed. I couldn't find anything in the book to explain this. Had my seminar prof. not explained them, I'd still be in the dark.

That said, the text is well referenced. This isn't a "study" guide, so it isn't glossed, but it is footnoted with plenty of relevant citations. Dubious text--or text that is widely accepted as having been added by later copyists--is footnoted...for instance, the "sweat like blood" verse in Luke's rendition of the Gethsemane pericope.

For anyone embarking on a serious of analysis of the synoptic gospels (and John), this book is a great tool.

just to clarify
just to clarify some of the other reviews, please note that this book is the "ENGLISH-ONLY TEXT", and it does not have the Greek features that some of the reviewers claim that it has. There is a greek/english version as well, and THAT is what they refer to.

:-)

A Must for Serious Students of the Bible and Biblical Greek.
This book has been around for over 25 years, yet it is considered one of the best synoptics. This book is perfect for the bible student, who wants to gain a grasp on the Greek language in terms of the Gospels. On one side of the page is all four gospels in the Greek, while the other side has the English equivalent. This will help the student compare and contrast the Gospels.
