Basic chemistry and alchemy history in one book.
This is a delightful chemistry book. A combination of chemical history and a description of Grandad's chemisty laboratory. You can learn basic chemistry, chemistry as applied to medicine years ago, antique chemical terms, and have fun at the same time. One of very few books available to outline steps in setting up a home chemistry laboratory. It is dated but that only adds to it's charm. It contains a wealth of very practical information.

A must-have for the serious yachtsman-historian
Although no doubt a useful guide to serious researchers interested in the Haffenreffer-Herreshoff collection at MIT, this work's value to the yachtsman starts with Appendix C - the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company Construction Record. This appendix is a facsimile reproduction of the actual construction records of the Company, both sail and power, in order of hull number, and including original owners and yacht names. An invaluable guide for those interested in classic yacht restoration and history.

Gurps Technomancer

Great sourcebook, needs more support!
The stated intent of GURPS: TECHNOMANCER was to create a world where high-tech and magic co-existed WITHOUT it being cyberpunk. TECHNOMANCER accomplishes this intent very well. The book posits a world where the Trinity nuclear test ripped open the fabric of space and produced a Hellstorm that "irradiated" a good portion of the United States, producing areas of high mana where magic could be worked by anyone with the genes to be a mage. Magical mutation produced more and more mages over time to the modern day. Now set in the present, the world of TECHNOMANCER has been indelibly stamped with the workings of magic. This has resulted in such oddities as industrial-line mages, magical spies, dragons as part of the U.S. Forces in Vietnam, flying sports carpets, and Departments of Magic in certain universities. Although it is written for the GURPS game system (you must have a copy of the GURPS Main Rules to use the mechanics in this book), the wealth of ideas in this book can be adapted to any game system. Steve Jackson Games spoke of supporting TECHNOMANCER with future supplements. I hope they do! This is an excellent sourcebook, and is probably one of their best in a while.

Harrison's is essential
I have used Harrisons since the eighties. I am a Clinical Psychologist dealing with patients who often have multiple medical problems. Harrison's is a complete solution to getting up to the date medical information, not only the book and CD but also the Website. It is expensive, but if you only ever buy one medical text, this has to be the one.

Another fine product
When it comes to internal medicine, which is generally considered to be the core of the medical profession, Harrison's is the standard that others use for comparison. The hardcover has always been outstanding. New versions are available regularly with changes based on information gathered from the latest clinical trials, new drugs released, etc worldwide. The CDROM version takes it a bit further. Now instead of waiting a year or two for updates, access to medical sites on the WWW enables the student, intern, resident, or even the attending to get the latest information fast. If you could buy only one medical resource this would have to be it.
