An old-fashioned love story
Kurt Weill and Lotte Lenya's relationship was hair-raising by modern American standards. He was a workaholic whose music came first in his life (as he himself told Lenya), while she was a sex addict who openly sought the excitement and attention she couldn't get from Weill with other men. Yet rather than growing apart, they continually turned to one another for advice, reassurance, support, and a sense of continuity. Some reasons for why this apparently extraordinarily dysfunctional marriage survived infidelity, separation, and even a short-lived divorce can be found in these letters, in which the Weills exchange phony and real endearments, sexy come-ons, giggly in-jokes and arch witticisms as well as carrying on the day-to-day business of a working life together and apart. Read in sequence, their correspondence makes a funny, engrossing, and ultimately heartbreaking romance.

A Classic Insight into the life of a mountaineer
This autobiography is one of the most appealing in its genre. From the first page one is captivated by the tone of the writing. There is no bravado in these pages, no dull lists of achievements and summits gained. Instead one is immersed in the mountains and can fully understand the impact they had on this mountaineers life, from early boy-hood onwards. For those who know the beauty of the mountains this is a book for you.

A Survey of Modern English
Published in Hardcover by Routledge (1992)
Authors: Stephan Gramley and Kurt-Michael Patzold
Amazon base price: $90.00
Used price: $120.00
Average review score:

Best book I've ever read.
Divided into three parts, this book sets up the stage, by discussing many of the topics which you might image that you would find in a book on english; grammar, phonetics, morphology, and syntax. But it goes on to do something amazing, which is to be expected from a book which appraises the use, users, geography and variation of the superhuman entity that is Modern English. All of the features of this 500-page book read like a good novel. Even topics as traditionaly boring as grammar will come to life, with recent examples of descriptive (as opposed to prescriptive) grammar.

The people who could use this book are linguists or people who wish to learn about the language which has more non-native speakers than indigenous ones. If you do, however, fit these very minor prerequisites and have not yet come into contact with this book, I urge you to buy it at once (if you don't mind paperback). You will find that this book makes an extremely valuable addition to your library.

Dr. Stephan Gramley is Senior Lecturer of English and Dr. Michael Pätzold is professor at Bielefeld University. Routledge is irrefutably the foremost publisher in the areas of intrinsic Linguistics and Philosophy.

Systemic Candidiasis and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (Dr. Donsbach Tells You)
Published in Paperback by TRC (1993)
Author: Kurt W. Donsbach
Amazon base price: $3.95
Used price: $2.12

Stop the CFS/Fibromyalgia epidemic
As an alternative health care practitioner, I found Donsbach's book was able to put all the puzzle pieces together to answer all the questions I have had in regards to the many people who come to my office claiming they have Fibromyalgia and/or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. How could this syndrome be such an epidemic of the latter 90's? Donsbach explains how it happens and how to deal with it in a very simple, but direct manner, often injecting his sense of humor. Very easy reading, very practical solutions. A must read for anyone who has been diagnosed with CFS or Fibromyalgia.

Quite a Find!
In this, his first published book, Cyrus reveals to the world his ingenious illustrations and magnificent story-telling. Such detail and color in pictures are rare; every time I read this story to my children before bed it seems we find something new in the illustrations. It has been a favorite around our home for years, and I greatly anticipate any more work he produces. Thank you!

Excellent!!! Fun!!! Exciting!!!
This book went beyond what I first thought it was going to be about. Thinking it would be a book on helping chidren understand how the 10 Commandments apply in our lives today. I was captivated on how well the authors explained the commandments and gave examples so simple that children of all ages can easily understand them especially the activities, where parents participate in with them. I highly recommend this book for every family whether you have children or not. You will get a much better understanding of the 10 Commandments and have alot of fun in the process.

Trek Brought To Life For All Ages
Anyone investing in this book will not be dissapointed! On the very first page, icons of the voyage, including the insignia, the bluprints, the bridge, and a few of the sights seen by the crew jump off the page in pop-up form. The words of Captain James T. Kirk, "Her name is Enterprise," begin the insightful description of the five year mission. In other 3D depictions, Commander Spock discusses "Genesis," and The Borg rise frightfully to appear before your very eyes as Captain Jean Luc-Picard summarizes the Next Generation. Deep Space Nine, and Voyager aren't left out of the book, which celebrates the 30 glorious years of Star Trek. And the eye-catching 3D cover, where you tilt the book so that the Enterprise scats across the front cover of this sizeable book, belongs on the coffee table of any true Trek fan.

Beautiful and Educational
I must admit that until picking up this book, I had no idea that quilting was such an integral part of Native American culture. The little history we recieve on Native Americans had never touched on the power of quilts even within today's Native communities. MacDowell and Dewhurst have painted a comprehensive illustration of not only the beauty of Native quilting, but also the social importance of quilts as records and protectors of Native culture. The photographs and stories presented in this book are so eloquently presented that I could not put the book down. I leave it on my coffee table and have not ceased to attract the attention of every visitor.

A great childrens' nature book!
Treasures Among The Trees is like a good walk in the woods-peaceful, enlightening, and full of surprises. The plot is a classic-an elderly man trying to teach the virtues of nature to his grandson-but David Livingston Burdick's vivid, playful photographs show an even wiser teacher at work: Mother Nature. Ultimately, Grandpa Dave and young Ryan realize that the rewards of exploring the forest preserve are doubled when you share it. Reading Treasures Among The Trees to a kid is the next best thing to being in the woods.
