Finally, someone who understands this painful injury!
This is the most comprehensive book I have ever read on repetitive strain injuries. I have been suffering from various RSI's in my wrists/elbows/arms for about a year now, and was very frustrated that none of the numerous doctors I saw seemed to be able to help me, or even understood what was wrong with me. Just one chapter into the book, I felt a great sense of relief that the author *understands* not only the injury, but the frustration and anger that patients suffer. There are detailed descriptions of the various types of RSI's, how they are caused, and what you can do about correcting the problems that caused them in the first place. Along with this are valuable instructions on workplace ergonomics, suggestions for helpful ways to make everyday life easier, pain management, and a resource guide at the end of the book, with suppliers of helpful tools as well as legal resources if your injury is work-related. An excellent book, I highly recommend it.

I thought I was at fault. That I should have known better!
This book was a gift of serendipity. The information in it allowed me to communicate to my DR's and the State Workers' Compensation Division exactally what my injury is. Because of prolonged computer "leashing" I developed a bi-lateral Ulnar nerve compression. I sought "compentent" medical treatment for 4 months until I read this book. I found such treatment because this publication empowered me to ask the right questions. I will not relate details but I was severly abused in the Medical system (yes I am FULLY insured) prior to having the information Ms. Quilter provides in this excellent book. If you have sore hands, numb hands or, as I did, muscle loss in your arms or hands, BUY this book! I have been given full Workers' Compensation, and have been blessed to find the upper extremity Orthopaedic Surgens at the University of Pittsburgh because of the drive this publication gave me and refusal to stop looking for the best help for my injury.

Reader in Ohio
After years of extreme pain caused by ...poor working conditions ..., I ended up disabled. I found this book four years later. In that time, I had seen two M.D.'s, three chiropracters and two orthopedic surgeons. I was diagnosed as having a pinched nerve.

After reading this book, I made an appointment with Dr. Pascarelli. I was the last new patient he took before retiring.

He diagnosed me as having thoracic outlet syndrome, and wrote up a script of physical therapy treatment for me, which I took back to Ohio and showed to the doctor's here. I still live in constant pain because of permanent muscle damage in my upper back because this wasn't diagnosed sooner, but at least the pain is bearable. I also have problems using my arms and hands. But, today I'm partially disabled instead of totally disabled.

Maybe, if one of the doctor's that had examined me before had Dr. Pascarelli's knowledge, I wouldn't be living in pain today. Or, if I had the knowledge this book provides....

If you use a computer, read this book and follow the advice. You don't have to end up living in pain.

You, Too, Can Be a Hogwarts Student
... Or at least pretend to be! (NOTE: This is not a Harry Potter book, although it's certainly riding his "robe-tails.")

Not only does this book have some really neat and practical projects (container herb garden), but also has some pretty icky, kids-love-it projects like a terrarium for carnivorus plants and a mold garden. You can make your own wizard's robe, invisible ink (that you can use with your newly-made quill pen), and sew your own journal. The recipes include gumdrops, rock candy, and homemade slime (!). There's bits of history and folklore in it, too, just in case you get tired of making all this great stuff and want to read a while.

The illustrations are wonderful, the writing is engaging, and it has a ribbon bookmark (okay, it may be a silly thing to mention, but I love ribbon bookmarks). This is a very entertaining book. Many of the projects would lend themselves nicely to a theme party, and there are a few suggestions for that, too. Your Harry fan will have a *blast* with the ideas in this book. I can't wait to some of them with my own little HP fan...

Not just for kids, either!
I'm 28 years old. I have no children. I don't even have any small children anywhere in my immediate family. And here I am, buying and writing a gushing torrent of praise for a children's book.

This is the best book in the whole world. No, really. Okay, except maybe the proper Harry Potter books, but. It's still a darn fine book.

The crystal ball lamp is really what I'm itching to make. Meanwhile, I've been busying myself with churning out wizard money, rings, and baby unicorn horns to dole out to Potter-loving friends. And you bet I'm going to try the Every Flavor Be--ah, I mean, All Flavors Gumdrops recipe posthaste. Can't wait to see the look on my boss's face when I slip him a tabasco one. Ahem.

Kids WILL need help from grownups for most of this stuff, but that's not a bad thing. And, if I may make a suggestion: if you help your kids whip up a batch of Dragon Blood, put it in little plastic bottles from the craft store--and glue the caps on. Messy stuff

Turn off the TV, Get OffLine and Savor this book
Anything that encourages kids to put away the mouse, turn off the TV, get offline and open an old-fashioned adventure - a book - should be treasured. The Book of Wizard Craft does just that. In this visually brilliant book, an old wizard encourages kids to awaken their imaginations, get out the glue, glitter, string, and create! And in a slight-of-hand way he teaches them fascinating facts about alchemy, the runes, and some spooky-fun stuff, too! Lindy Burnett's illustrations are pure magic! The genius of this wonderful book, she has worked wizardry at her own cauldron - the painter's palette. Each beautiful page draws in the eye and the imagination as she spins straw into gold at every stroke of the brush! Ms. Burnett brings exceptional artistic delight to this fun, playful and educational journey through ancient teachings. It is a brilliantly crafted, colorful, alive work of art!

SPELLBINDING
Dr. Leigh Novak decides to take her son Jeremy away from Los Angeles and to a small town in Northern California called Hartwood, population 3000. The day they arrived should have been happy, but instead went from bad to worse. Leigh finds old Doc Ellsford slumped over in his chair, half dead from a stroke. Once Leigh sees Doc off in the town's only ambulance, Gabe Barker comes rushing in with his 3 year old son Brian who has a very high fever and is in a coma. Brian stops breathing shortly after they arrive. Leigh works on Brian for thirty minutes without any results, Little Brian is dead, and he should not be gone he only had the chicken pox. Along the way, Leigh finds friendship in Nora, a well respected childcare giver.

WEDNESDAY'S CHILD gives a disturbing description of child abuse, but this is not just a book about child abuse, it's a story about small town life and its secrets. The Shlians have written a fast paced, taut and very compelling story, I found the book spellbinding and hard to put down. If you like Mary Higgins Clark you will love WEDNESDAY'S CHILD.

Gripping!
Wednesday's Child by Deborah Shlian and Joel Shlian is a gripping medical thriller that kept me literally on the edge of my seat. If you're looking for a heart-stopping, fast-paced read that's as good as anything by Grishom or Mary Higgins Clark, this is it. I highly recommend it.

"...GRIPPING SUSPENSE AT ITS BEST...!
From the back cover:

"HARTWOOD'S CHILDREN KNEW A SECRET. A BAD, BAD SECRET...

It was Leigh Novak's second chance. Leigh's first patient, a child, died mysteriously in her office. And soon Leigh was too busy to spend much time with Jeremy. It seemed her only friend was Nora - the woman who took such good care of the town's little children. When Nora started taking care of Jeremy, he stopped getting angry, stopped crying, stopped telling lies...

Nora taught her children to be very, very good. If they were bad, she punished them. And if a child was very bad, Nora made sure he would never cry again..."

Riveting! You won't be able to put this one down, I guarantee it! WEDNESDAY'S CHILD is a roller coaster ride of the first order. Loved it. Believable characters you care about. Suspense that builds and when you're already on the edge of your seat, the authors turn the heat up. A bang-up ending. A medical thriller that is a sort of Robin Cook and Mary Higgins Clark blend. Not a lagging paragraph in the entire book. You won't want to miss this exciting thriller from the authors of SHOU.

Motivation to NOT MsSpend
This book fills the gap in the personal finance market because it recognizes something that others haven't seen: the reason so many of us manage our money poorly is that it sounds too hard to manage it well. Yes, I know I should spend less, and yes, I know I should save more - but why don't I, and how can I change? I found this book had some good ideas about how to motivate myself to WANT to make the changes that I have known for years that I SHOULD make. Though some people can control their spending through pure logic (like the writers of the pretty nasty sounding reviews below - no wonder they did not put their full name to the reviews!), it has never worked for me. Deborah Knuckey also has some good tips and ideas that make sense and are presented in a fresh and light way. Too many books impose such tough restrictions that I end up reading them and going on a shopping splurge because I feel so bad about myself afterwards. I feel like someone finally understands that this is not easy and cutting down on all spending is a recipe for failure. This is the perfect starter book if you are trying to get your spending under control. Now that I am beginning to save more, I may revisit some of the books on investing I have owned for years but never read.

Financial book for people who dislike money issues
Deborah Knuckey has written a helpful and enjoyable book intended to help readers get in touch with the reasons they spend money and how they can become more "aware" of their spending habits. She's a helpful advisor who doesn't offer opinions or tells you what you must do. Instead, the book lets you decide what money decisions you want to make. This book is quite helpful--I wish I could take the author shopping with me next time I hit the mall!

The Ms.Spent Money Guide
Many book are interesting to read, and then you forget all about them. Not "The MsSpent Money Guide," which I refer to over and over again. It is a book that has changed my life. Most of us feel helpless before ubiquitous money problems. Deborah Knuckey's book teaches you that you can be in charge of your financial welfare, that you are the architect of your future, and that you can be as well off moneywise as you want to be. She says, "Why spend so much of your life working if you don't use your earning in a way that makes you ahppy? Even if you love your job, most work is siimply not that much fun that we'd do it purely for the joy of it. So take the payment for your work and put it to your own best use." Knuckey believes that each of us has different life values, and it is foolish to go along with everyone else's. What mattters, she writes, is that your spending fit your own needs and not that of the Joneses. Some people like fine clothes, others could care less what they wear. Some of us enjoy eating in fine restaurants, others prefer cooking at home.Whatever it is that you enjoy, that is what you should be spending your money on. What matters is not how much money you have, but that it is invested in what will make you happy. Deborah Knuckey will teach you haow to do it. Don't miss reading this book, if you want to enjoy life to the fullest.

Sensitive help from one who has been there herself
The author uses moving vignettes from the death of her own pet to help others review their own feelings of grief. After each topic, she encourages the listener to turn off the tape and reflect on his or her own memories and feelings.

She discusses pet memorials, stages of grief, euthanasia and hospice options. She emphasizes that each person has his or her own unique feelings. Different individuals might make different, equally valid choices for the beloved pet.

I liked the sections on complicated grief. Pet loss can often reactivate deeper feelings about past losses. The pet's death may be a chance to work through other life experiences.

Many of her general suggestions for dealing with pet loss could be useful for the entire family.

The section on children's reactions to pet loss could have been stronger. I had a sense that the author was more comfortable dealing with adults and their animals. However, she did bolster her section on children with quotes from other authors and gave useful references.

Carol E. Watkins, M.D.

Insightful, creative, and heartfelt.
Journey Through Pet Loss is an insightful, creative, and heartfelt odyssey through the loss of a beloved companion animal. As an experienced drama therapist, Deborah Antinori understands the importance of using creativity and imagery to help move grief from the intellectual realm, to the emotional one. Anyone suffering from the loss of a special friend should experience Deborah's unique approach to healing. She provides valuable ideas in a way that feels very personal and meaningful.

A powerful resource for counselors as well as loving friends
As a Hospice Social Worker of l5 years, I listened to Journey Through Pet Loss with great interest. For many people, the loss of a beloved pet was the first true experience of loss and grief. The way in which a first experience with death is dealt with often lays the foundation for dealing with future losses. I now keep two copies of this wonderful set to share with children and adults alike. I also have found it useful and healing to adapt the recommended exercises to use with clients who are dealing with the loss of a beloved human companion. Journey Through Pet Loss is carefully thought out- I expect that listeners will laugh through their tears, as I have, while listening.

The best recipebook on Philippine cuisine yet
Here in the US, Philippine cuisine is most often summarized by the following: lumpiang shanghai, lechon (manok), pork barbeque, pancit, sinigang and adobo. If you can cook the above, consider yourself an experienced Pinoy chef; this book, fortunately, blows this notion out of the water.

The book reveals a cuisine that is the amalgamation of history and geography; it features a multipage discussion on how Filipino cuisine can be subdivided into regional specialties, each with its own historical influences; it provides a grouping of dishes by genre (how many Filipino cookbooks describe the various meat and seafood ginataan variations while smartly leaving the dessert ginataan for later?); it compares and contrasts dishes with similar ones from other parts of the Philippines. From reading the book, one gets a glimpse of just how diverse Filipino cooking really is, each major region in the archipelago of 7100 islands, large and small, developing a unique taste that warrants its own recipe book.

Accurate/appropriate English translations for many of the recipe names help make the recipes seem less exotic and unapproachable while the clear instructions guide the novice through even some of the more intricate dishes.

A great book on Philippine cuisine
This book focuses on the recipes of Filipino favorites, everyday dishes as well as fiesta ones. The recipes offered made up delicious food. It does not dwell on lots of glossy pictures. The pages are not glossy so the book is easy to read and use. The ingredients asked for in the recipes are easy enough to get in smallish to larger cities. Filipinos who would like a quality ethnic cookbook will enjoy this one.

Tasty
This book gives an excellent introduction to Filipino food and cooking. The author has collected and tested hundreds of traditional recipes. While I'm no expert on the authenticity of these recipes, I can say that they are tasty and not too difficult to try at home. Some of the special features are adobo (vinegar and garlic sauce), coconut recipes, purple yam recipes, and pickles. While pork is a central ingredient in many of these recipes, it is also easily possible to put together a completely vegetarian menu using this book. Gelle includes a brief overview of Filipino food history and regional specialties at the beginning of the book, as well as a glossary of ingredients and index at the end.

A Real Winner
This book is absolutely wonderful! Deborah Turner takes you on an enthralling journey to ancient Persia, into lives of servants and royalty and into thoughts of greed and power, loyalty and honor and ... romance.
Deborah's vivid descriptions give evidence of extensive research, enabling the reader to visualize every scene. She gets inside the characters and convincingly conveys them to the reader. The story is well written and fast paced; each step is an experience you won't want to miss. Can't wait for the next one.

Well told story from the Bible
"If I Perish" is the story of Esther and comes from the old testment. It is the tale of how a young Jewish woman becomes the wife of Xerxes and Queen of Persia. King Xerxes is tricked into ratifying an edict that condemns the Jews to death. The brave queen, with the help of Yahweh, is able to overcome the plot of a madman who wants to take the throne away from Xerxes and annihilate Esther's people.

The book has an intriguing plot that carries you through the novel and keeps you turning pages. Deborah usues multiple view points which gives you a well rounded idea of which each person thinks and feels. It is especially interesting to see the villain's motovation behind his deeds.

I think people who enjoyed "The Red Tent," will also enjoy "If I Perish." Turner has written a novel that gives you the feeling for the time and how people lived in that era. It also makes one apperciate living in the 21st century and in a free land. I enjoyed the book very much and look forward to her next novel.

The complete idiot's guide to the Kama sutra

Authors: Johanina Wikoff, Deborah S. Romaine, and Harville Hendrix
Amazon base price: $16.95
Average review score:

A surprise
I ordered this book expecting your typical sex manual/self-help guide. It is so much more than that. It deals with all the aspects of the Kama Sutra including the emotional link required to make this work.
I loved this book.

new to sex
My mom bought this book for me as a going away to college gift last fall. I thought it was kind of dumb and didn't read it.
Then my girlfriend began talking about the Kama Sutra and i remembered that I had this book. Over semester break, I read it and so did my girlfriend and all I can say is - I learned more than I ever imagined about sex and how to talk about problems in a relationship. This book was great. And sex is better than I ever dreamed.

Great info on the Kama Sutra and Relatiionships
I've been interested in Kama Sutra and Tantra and reading over the years. I also have bought a few Idiot's Guides. This is really well written and covers the Kama Sutra in a clear and easy to read style. What I found really helpful is that this book includes relationship skills that are what you would go to a therapist or class to learn. My partner and I use the exercises in this book because they are fun and easy and they make us more aware.
