Everywoman's Money: Confident Investing
Everywoman's Money: Confident Investing was outstanding. Delightful read for invaluable results. Not only is Deborah Owen's writing style easy flowing -- she takes a set of complicated topics -- "recognizing the need to" and "knowing how to" save and invest -- and provided simplicity, clarity, and thoroughness. Simplicity of the complicated factors savers and investors need to consider and understand to develop good financial programs.
Clarity in the specific actions that need to be taken. Thoroughness in the breadth of savings and investment industry alternatives there are to choose from -- and guidance on making those choices.

Highly recommend this book!
Confident Investing is a terrific book for anyone who wants to understand the topic of money management and investing. It is entertaining, easy-to-read, and loaded with interesting anecdotes and "coaching tips" on how to get started and what to do! The topic of investing can seem intimidating at times, but Deborah knows how to break down all the "hard-to-understand" lingo and speak to the reader in a conversational and common sense language. I thank Deborah for giving me the motivation and knowledge level to take control of my own financial future!

"You too can invest with the best!"
Pryor to changing careers, I worked in the Brokerage/ Investment Banking Industry for 13 years and daily watched the insiders use the Stock Market wisely to build their dreams and financial futures. During those years there were very few books on the market that educated the average investor about the basics of successful investing. Debbie Owens has written Confident Investing to fill that void. Though there are many books on the subject these days, Confident Investing is one of the first books I have read that has provided the basic information and the encouragement one needs to become a successful investor.Though the book solely focuses on women, the information rings true for all novice investors. How much you invest is not the focus. Having a firm foundation about investments is key to making wise decisions with your hard earned dollars!

Debbie begins each chapter with stories about women in various life stages and how each person with financial education was able to change the course of their lives. Each women was able to make their dreams come true.

Each chapter also has coaching tips and a money therapy section to emphasis the theme for that chapter. The chapters end with a journal section to help you analysis those unspoken blocks that prevent each of us from reaching our goals. You can not read this book without wanting to make a change for the better.

I would encourage anyone who wants to achieve their financial goals to begin with this book! The best place to start is with basic information.... Debbie has "cornered the market" on that!

Don't forget Australia!
This is an excellent book - well researched, authoritative and entertaining. As an olive producer I read a lot of nonsense about our product so I'm always delighted to find someone who has gone to the trouble to get it right.
However ... while Deborah has given a fairly comprehensive review of oils produced around the world, it's a pity she hasn't heard of the largish island west of New Zealand which has been producing excellent olive oils for many years. (I would have overlooked the omission except that New Zealand got a mention.) She even accuses prominent Australian nutritionist Dr Rosemary Stanton of being British!
Perhaps in the next edition?

A great Guide to Olive Oil: tasting, selecting, and cooking
This is an excellent book. It includes an extremely lucid discussion of what extra virgin olive oil is and how it is produced. The descriptions of almost 150 oils from around the world are extremely useful, especially since it includes oils commonly found in most supermarkets in addition to specialty oils (lots of web addresses are included). The discussion on how to classify and taste olive oil is probably the best I have ever read. Almost 2/3 of the book is devoted to wonderful recipes based on olive oil. I have not even finished reading it yet and I have already marked favorites and just took the first batch of olive and pepper knots (an easy cocktail treat) out of the oven. Finally, the book is filled with practical advice and hints on cooking, cookware, and just eating well. This book is definitely worth the purchase for anyone who wants to learn more about olive oil or to explore Mediterranean cooking.

Writing which glistens, irresistible recipes: a must-have
As a cookbook author myself, I see lots of culinary offerings, and I can guarantee Deborah Krasner's is one you will both learn from and cook with. It's seductive, reassuring, and authoritative all at once, and the recipes, clearly thoroughly tested, work. Yes, it's about olive oil. But it's like having a confident, knowledgeable, generous friend in the kitchen with you. The writing pulses with vitality and enthusiasm; the recipes sound irresistible (and those I have tried have been).
Who could resist a Grilled Portobello, White Bean, and Arugula Sandwich, an Iced Celery Soup with Feta, Toasted Walnuts, and Apple, and twenty-one pages of pastas, each more invitingly full-flavored than the last? It's hard to decide which to fix first: but I got to tell you, the improbable sounding 4-ingredient cookies on page 195 (Sweet Taralle) are as easy to make as they are impossible to stop eating, and the Cellentani Pasta with Oven-Dried Tomatoes and Gorgonzola (which also features capers, olives, and garlic) is extraordinarily flavorful. You will also learn how to do a superb fake aged balsamic vinegar (in case you don't feel like dropping $90 a bottle for the real thing). And though the book is not vegetarian, it is very vegetarian-friendly.
There's also loads of helpful cooking arcana. Krasner takes you through things like "Respecting a Recipe" (ie, how to make it work for you each and every time, even if you have to make changes), "Boning a Whole Fish" and why heating the pan before you add the oil is "a significant step forward." Next to a recipe extolling the virtues of cast-iron skillets, adjacent text explains why cast iron works, and how to season and care for it.
If you've been boggled by the numerous selections every grocery store now seems to offer, you will never again be intimidated, for The Flavors of Olive Oil is also, as its subtitle says, a tasting guide. There are ratings of more than 140 individual artisanal oils plus "A Short Course on Olive Oil" (which will tell you everything you need to know about choosing, buying, storing, cooking, and , yes, tasting olive oils), But its delicious writing is lubricated with far more than the flavor of this particular oil; the book glistens with the flavor of life and celebration, in and out of the kitchen.

Forever
How wonderful to have this delightful book resurface again. I very rarely read fiction, yet this book is special. It is not only beautifully written and moving, but haunting. I read it twice before buying it again recently (both of my earlier copies were borrowed by close friends and never returned). The first time I read it, I was 15; it had been recommended by my high school journalism teacher. The second time, I was a young parent. Both times the pictures it painted and impressions it left me with stayed vivid to me for weeks. And, I suppose, much longer, because here I am again (12 years later) anxious for it to arrive.

The best
This is the best love story I have ever read. I'm so dissapointed that it is out of print what will I do

Unusual romantic fantasy
I ordinarily don't read romances but I first read this book in the 50's when I was a teenager and loved it. It recently resurfaced and I read it again and loved it just as much as then. It only takes a half hour to read but then you put it away to read again. I've never believed in reincarnation but this makes you think it might be nice.

A real page-turner!
This one grabs you from the start. The oldest child taken from her family (as custom requires) to train to defend her people in a mysterious guard. She is picked out of the line by the leader to be his personal trainee even though his job has always made him exempt from having a trainee. Don't you just love it! My only objection is the ending. I went back and reread it several times to try to understand. It seems to me that a sequel would have been in order. There was a major skirmish with the enemy coming up, and the hero and heroine were trying to find a way to buck the system and be together. I would have liked more from these characters.

Captivating
From the very beginning this book just takes hold of you and never lets go. I found myself at tears when I first read the book because it was so beautiful and I had to read it a second time. I felt that I was right there with Vayhawk and Senea every step of the way through it all. It's a unique fantasy unlike anything I've ever read before and I highly recommend it to anyone who is into fantasy or just wants to read a romantic and action filled story.

Senea and Vayhawk : Kicking Ja'sid Buttocks
I am currently rereading this novel for the nth time. I've lost count. This book is my most treasured, it rocks. Senea and Vayhawk are identifiable characters, and some of the most three-dimensionally written I've seen. With their struggle with Sky, Yunab, and the Ja'sid power the warrior-style novel never had it written so good. In a sweeping story of magic, war, and unlikely love and hate, this book ranks at the top. While I'm afraid it is *sob* currently out of print, may you all be so lucky as to find a copy. You'll cherish it as much as I.

All About Women!
Here's one of the few great books that focus on women and their accomplishments only instead of men. This book featured 120 biographal sketches of women such as Cleopatra VII, Queen Victoria, Anna Pavlova, Gabrielle "Coco" Channel, Harriet Tubmanm, Elizabeth Blackwell, Queen Elizabeth I, and much, much more. These biographies are all wonderful, easy to read, and clearly say what these women have done and accomplished. This is the perfect book for anyone who wants to read about women who have done amazing things. After all, women are capable of accomplishing and doing anything, and this book clearly shows that!

A necessity to anyone interested in women's history
What a gem! I have many history books about women because I want to share women's history with my children. I was of the generation where women were left out of the history class and I feel that women are still in large left out of much of the classes in today's schools. This book does a great job of including many women from different eras, genres and ethnicities. There are photos and great summaries that are short enough to interest children, but in-depth enough to give the reader a knowledgeable understanding. I highly recommend this book to anyone, at any level!

exellent!
This is the best book! Are you tired or reading about history through the eyes of a man? Before this history was documented by wars and treatys but this book is totally different. You learn about history as well as her-story, I learned about more than a hundred other women who changed the movement of the world. Some created inventions, others opened schools, they fighted for wemens rights and protested their weekness by working twice as hard as any man. This was a great book I really injoyed reading it, I hope you do too.

A great read, fascinating description of the work!
As the director of several programs for the homeless, I know that Ms. Connolly's account of her work captures the complexity of homeless services. This book is captivating as she layers the client's stories with her own responses, as well as artfully mixing in theoretical and philosophical points. A great book if you are in the field, considering the field, needing closure on feelings if leaving the field. I would also highly recomend this as required reading for any clinical field training, particularly where the subject is supervision. Ms. Connolly does a fabulous job illustrating the points during interventions when her own feeling bubble just over the line. While her actions remain professional, this read takes you into the subjects that supervision is designed for, while giving an honest beautiful illustration of "the work." Thank You for not only describing the complex reasons for peoples homelessness, but also the approaches you used to work with them, and the way most of our "clients" fall into the gaps between services.

The Human Side of Homelessness
I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about homeless women and their personal struggle. The author did an excellent job of bringing the mothers and children to life for the reader and showed the reader the human side of their struggle. The families depicted are easy to relate to and their stories are thoroughly engrossing. An excellent read--A++++!

Homelessness and The Good Mother
I loved this book and couldn't put it down. The author really made the women come alive and I feel like I got a first hand glimpse into the lives of mothers struggling to make ends meet. This book is for anyone interested in why people become homeless and what it would take -- personally and politically -- to get back on track. The stories are fascinating and enlightening -- it's absorbing reading and you'll learn a lot from it.

The Best Book about Bees for Children
I am a beekeeper and I have been looking for a book about bees for children for years. This one is not only beautiful (what gorgeous, fun art!), it is also scientifically accurate, easy to understand--and really fun to read. There is humor in this book, too. The author and illustrator really knew what they were doing. Publisher, too. Those honeycombed endpapers are ingenius. Plus I see that they used a reknown beekeeper and author as their expert, and that was brilliant. Kudos to National Geographic and the author/illustrator team.

Honeybees by Deborah Heiligman, illustrated by Carla Bolembe
Ever wondered how bees make honey? Dive into this lively informative book about bees and find out why " Busy as a bee" is not an idle statement! Discover which bees work, feed, fly and warn the hive of possible attacks. The book is well written, vividly illustrated and artistically designed. Notice the end papers!Deborah Heiligman takes a complicated concept and explains it in carefully chosen clarifying details. Add this to your home library. You'll return to it, again and again.

The colorful and exciting life of honeybees
As the father of an eight year old who is not particularly interested in science, I am always looking for science themed books that will capture my son's attention. Honeybees is just such a book. My son (and my daughter and I) found the story of the honeybee's life to be intriguing. Their society is truly fascinating. Heiligman's text is well written and informative. Carla Golembe's colorful illustrations are exquisite, imaginative and accurate at the same time. A most impressive accomplishment.

Great images by some of the greatest photographers alive
This book publishes the works of an exhibit held to celebrate the first 50 years of Polaroid photography. The works are from the Polaroid Collection that was started by Edwin Land to involve professional photographers in the development of his technology. Eventually this collaboration developed into a formal collection. This book gives us a wonderful glimpse of the great works that have been created using this medium. The photographs are arranged by decade which allows the reader to see the development in technique and technology. Each picture is accompanied by the name of the photographer, their country, the title of the work, the date, and the type of film used. The only thing I felt was missing was a some description of the works by either the photographers or the editors.

Wonderful presentation of an old favorite
This book is a beautiful addition to any art book collection. It is great to see all the things that have been done with polaroid, and has inspired me to do more with it. From polaroid transfers to Hockney.
