A Singular Single-Source
Here is one of the best of the hundreds of books which cover most (if not all) of the same subjects in a single volume. The authors of this one combine a textbook (without pedantry) with a manual (without condescension). Their material is organized in a series of "Units":

1. Overture [eg "The Communication Process"]

2. Managing Relationship Life in the Workplace [eg "The Art of Listening"]

3. Managing Work Life in the Workplace [eg "Managing Stress and Conflict"]

4. Managing Public Life in the Workplace [eg "Establishing Your Presentation Goals"]

5. Managing Techno-Life in the Workplace [eg "Three Tips for Managing Techno-Life Competencies"]

As these "Unit" titles correctly suggest, the authors provide both a system and a process to increase business and professional communication skills. They include a wealth of specific suggestions as well as real-world examples which suggest HOW to derive the greatest benefit, both from the system and the process. For whom will this book be most valuable? For experienced executives, it offers basic but useful reminders of what they probably know already (at least untuitively) or what they have learned empirically; for less-experienced executives, it offers what may well be new ideas, strategies, and tactics which can help to accelerate their career development.

Excellent reference for both students and professionals!
As a student, I used this book for a class and continue to use it every day as a reference tool as a professional. The authors provide thorough insight backed by years of professional experience. I would stongly suggest this book to any individual looking to enhance their professional skills/appearance prior to or upon entering the workforce, and professors in business management and/or communication arts.

Excellent business communicat. text relevent to 21st Century
Book is divided into four easy-to-read sections: relational life, work life, public life, and techno-life. Addresses such topics as listening, communication styles, workplace diversity, leadership, business etiquette, public speaking, stress and conflict, and computer technology. Handy reference for every day use. Toolboxes in each chapter provide self-analysis check list on various business communication topics. I highly recommend it for classroom, business, and for personal use.

A trip through time
The day Cityscapes arrived brought me back to the city of my childhood and of my family and closest friends. Page after page of wonderful photographs, of history remembered and learned yet again. So many places visited with my elementary school field trips and then revisited years later on my brief stays in New York. Cityscapes offers a visual feast as well as an intellectual journey to places and people seen years ago, but only now understood in historical context.

A month or so after I fell into Cityscapes, I was delighted to host a young couple from New York. They saw the book on my coffee table and picked it up. Hours later, the two of them were still pouring over the book, learning new and fascinating slices of urban life in their recently adopted city.

Just as New York offers something for everyone, Cityscapes brings light to the eyes of anyone who opens its cover and enters its world.

The Ultimate New York
There is no place like New York, and there is no book about New York like this one. As revealing as the superb choice of photos, sketches and maps are, so is the narrative story linked with the visual: colonial seaport blossoming into a republican town, fragmented city becoming the immigrant metropolis, and finally the cosmopolitan community and global village we celebrate today. The authors have opened for us vista after vista and close-up after close-up of the poignancy and power of this magnificently restless, creative and changing Empire City.

A Beautiful Book!
The destruction of the World Trade Center has altered the New York City skyline forever and has forced people to confront a new image of New York. The next generation of New York observers will only know the Towers from their images - several magnificant ones appear in this book's final chapter.

Cityscapes is more than just a history of New York City and it is more than simply a book of beaufitul pictures. It is a unique social history that explores the timely question of how New York, the City, has been both constructed and reflected in images captured over four hundred years.

So far, this is my favorite book of New York City history.

Just the Right Kind of Help
A practical book offering just the right kind of help when you are grappling with the grief and trauma of having a loved one who is terminally ill. For those who have the courage and situation calling for a dignified, loving death at home, this book is invaluable.

Coming Home: A Guide to Dying with Dignity
It's been 10 years since reading this book while caring for my mother-in-law.I have recommended it to many friends since then to help them with the care and preparation of death of their loved ones. Deborah Duda is an inspiration and her love and humor at such a difficult time is tremendously uplifting.

I don't know what I would have done without it
This wonderful book is a practical guide for caregivers and family members helping someone they love who is dying at home. It explains the logistics of bring a dying patient home from the hospital, resources available to home caregivers, how to give pain medications, how to make the patient comfortable (bathing, skin care, bedsores, catheters, etc.), how to deal with depression (both yours and the patient's), dealing with feelings about dying, legal considerations, preparation for death and afterward. Without this book I would have been terrified to take care of my grandmother at home until she died. With it, I was able to share her last six months and become closer to the amazing woman that was my grandmother. Those days are some of the most precious of my life, and I used "Coming Home" everyday. We bought a case of the books and distributed them to others sharing similar experiences.

The Bible of Usability ROI
Everyone involved in usability needs a highlighted, or bookmarked iwth post-it notes, copy of this book. Its always powerful to back up how important usability is to others who are unfamiliar with its power, be it your team or a client, and this book shows you how to do figure out the return of investment with dollars, something everyone understands. Overall, it gets the point across by showing readers how to do it for themselves with formulas that are not all that difficult at all, and where to pull numbers from to calculate the ROI.

you need it
Bite the bullet, buy the book. in these days of cut budgets, you must be able to justify your worth. There are formulas in this book that anyone designing software or digital products can use-- not just usability geeks. IA's, designers, GUI kids... time to learn the math.

Resource for defining the costs of poorly designed systems.
If you are looking for help with quantifying the cost of bad interface design and/or how poorly designed application costs the company money, then this is the book for you.

This book is practical and right on target for helping IT groups and customers understand the importance of systems that allow work to be completed efficiently. The authors do a great job quantifying the cost of poorly design, unusable system.

If you have ever tried to demonstrate to an IT group that it is more costly not to change the system, then this book will give you the strategy for showing how investing in system changes actually costs less in the short term, than in the long term.

End users will cheer anyone who applies the information in this book to the applications they use.

The chemistry sizzles
This is one of Deborah Martin's best! The chemistry between Rene and Elina sizzles. The scenes are vividly described(so as not to miss anything). I own this book since 1993 and I don't ever regret buying it.

Beautiful Romance
Definitely worth reading over and over again. This historical romance tells the story of a young girl, Elina, left all alone in the world struggling to proof her identity and to claim her rightful status in New Orleans society and most of all, to proof her love to the only man who stole her heart.

Her struggles were further hindered by those who wanted to get rid of her and would do everything in their power including murder, to prevent Elina from divulging her real identity.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a tense romantic love story.

READ MORE THAN THREE TIMES AND I LOVED IT. !MUST BE READ!
IT'S THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ. I LOVED THE PASSION BETWEEN RENE AND ELINA. IT'S A BOOK YOU COULD READ A 1,000 TIMES AND NEVER GET TIRE. IT'S A BOOK WHICH I RECOMMEND TO READERS.

A must read
I, unfortunately, found the book after our recent trip. I had to laugh at so many of the customs and especially the traits, as I am of Finnish decent. It was light hearted, and I found it to be right on the mark, especially in helping me find out why I am the way I am. Have passed the book around and everyone agrees that it's a winner!

Most interesting, charming and accurate!
I read Deborah Swallow's book after I'd been to Helsinki twice and it was a delight to read a book by someone who seems to like the place as much as I did. The book is a very entertaining mix of facts, personal anecdotes and advice. Well researched and well written! So if your friends wonder if you are crazy to travel to a remote, cold place like Finland: hand them this book and they'll understand!

A must have for anyone going to Finland!!!!
I'm leaving in August to be an exchange student to Finland and this book told me everything the Lonely planet guides were afraid too! This book was divided into nicely planned sections with a wonderful section dedicated to doing bussiness in the country. No book about Finland would be complete without the sauna chapter- and this book spares nothing. It has been by far the best preparation book I've read. The only downfall is that it is written by a Brittish woman- but she makes both Bristtish and American comparisons whenever possible.

Classic Currier & Ives
This book brings to life the traditional spirit of Christmas. Homesick for the old fashioned Christmas? Here it is.

I also recommend: •• THE PRAYER OF HANNAH by Kenn Gividen ••

Charming Holiday Reading

A delightful anthology of Christian romances by four very talented writers. The four novellas tell wholesome, heartwarming stories of holiday love in Currier & Ives classic American art settings.

DREAMS AND SECRETS by DiAnn Mills tells of the tender romance between Emma Leigh Carter and Thad Benson, who work together at the Jones Inn outside Philadelphia in the 1850s. Thad struggles with his dream of medical school and his growing attraction to Emma. Emma puts aside her feelings for Thad because she must help her family during her father's illness. Then Emma oversees a Christmas gift exchange for the Inn's owner and Thad draws her name. In her marvelous easy-to-read storytelling style, DiAnn Mills blends the young couple's faith and their tender love into an enchanting story that will warm the heart of readers from eight to eighty-eight.

Lynn A. Coleman's THE SNOW STORM sets the love story of Angela Harris and Michael Farley in the middle of a blizzard and uses the holiday season to draw the lovers together.

JoAnn A. Grote offers a delightful glimpse of life after the Civil War in her IMAGE OF LOVE as she tells how Lane Powell softens Mantie Clark's resolve never to love again after losing her love and one of her brothers in the war.

Deborah Raney's CIRCLE OF BLESSING centers on a family holiday tradition. Ms Raney's heroine Stella Bradford is determined to win the love of James Collingwood, her University professor with a dark secret in his past. You'll receive a blessing along with Stella and James.

A CURRIER & IVES CHRISTMAS would be a wonderful addition to anyone's library and a great holiday gift.

I also highly recommend MAIL ORDER HUSBAND by DiAnn Mills and BENEATH A SOUTHERN SKY by Deborah Raney.

Double Illusion
As a mother of young children I could not put the book down until I figured out who was kidnapping the babies. Needless to say, I was up all night reading because I could not identify the kidnapper until the end when the book actually spelled it out for me.

I do not find a lot of time to read, so I have high expectations when I do get the opportunity. This book did not disappoint.

Double Excitement
This book was so original and so exciting that I literally could not put it down. The authors kept me going right up until the very last page. What a breath-taking ride.

DOUBLE ILLUSION is double excitement
It grabs your attention from page one and keeps you guessing until the end. The medical scenes are very well written and the characters believable. Why would anyone steal babies? Read this book and get a true look into a mind capable of such things. This is the best mystery I have read in a long time.

Ship Happens!
An excellent book if you want to sell anything online; full of very practical and easy to implement advice for running an efficient back office. I learned how to successfully navigate shipping procedures, avoid internet fraud, process payments, manage customer service and complex tax nexus issues. The book is very complete and well organized - a must read for anyone doing business online! - Jason Hartman

Excellent Guide for Ebiz & Ecommerce
Excellent guide, especially for those implementing e-catalogs. Very good for The chapters are direct, loaded with questions and checklists.

Book that is long overdue
This is a topic that is long overdue. One only need look at the headlines of how some e-merchants badly fouled up fulfillment this holiday and the prior one to realize how invaluable this book is for e-commerce. Especially useful are the checklists, work-sheets and the exensive research Ms. Bayles did in finding pertinent sites that have a bearing on the topic. This is a book that, in contrast to others on e-commerce, will never go out of date.
