Interesting and compelling book
This is a very intriguing book because it is based upon actual experiences of the author. The book is very well written and is fun to guess "who done it". There are enough clues that make it very understandable and not convoluted. I look forward to the next book by this new author.

Clearly clairvoyant while cryptic.
This great mystery will keep you up until all hours. Clues provided are cryptic while being clear (at least in retrospect). The content is well written, flows, has continuity, and great character portrayal. As an extra, one is given a glimpse into the mind of a psychic, which the author is.

A great book!
This is a really good mystery, with plenty of clues to keep you from peeking at the end. Katherine's reluctance at solving the mystery eventually turns to almost an obsession. It's a great account of what a psychic detective goes through to unravel the clues and solve the mystery. The author knows what she's talking about - it's a fictionalized account of actual events. I look forward to upcoming books by this author!

Beautifully written and sensitive
A beautifully written book - Luepnitz comes across as intelligent and educated, and genuinely sensitive and caring. Not at all preachy. An unusually delightful read.

Insightful, compassionate and accessible
With great grace and empathy, Luepnitz traces five divergent routes through the sometimes difficult process of analysis. Luepnitz' considerable training and erudition illuminate not just psychoanalytic history and theory, but the relationships of patients and their families as they evolve through analysis. The stories of her patients' progress are as richly rewarding in analytic terms as any found in Freud or Lacan, but told with more humor and consideration for the reader. (In that respect, I suspect Luepnitz has implictly situated the reader as a necessary and welcome participant in the book and the analytic process she describes--as being in another kind of relationship with the analyst/writer and patient/subject). Perhaps most impressive is Luepnitz' ability to challenge and engage those familiar with psychotherapy, while remaining accessible and rewarding to newcomers. As her wonderful chapter titles suggest ("A Darwinian Finch," "Don Juan in Trenton") Luepnitz is especially adept, aesthetically and analytically, at translating the paradoxes of the unconscious, and showing how analysis can help us understand our possibilities as well as our limitations. Her reflections on the analyst's political and social role in contemporary society are also compelling and refreshing.

Human stories and fascinating theory
Deborah Luepnitz has crafted not only an engrossing telling of five very different and revealing stories but, between the lines and around the edges, a revelation of the power of the "talking cure" of psychoanalysis in contemporary society. She helped me understand the applicability of the often obtuse Jacques Lacan and creates the wonderful image of the analyst working in a space between the teachings of Lacan and the more optimistic (I would once have thought incompatible) Donald Winnicott. An intellectual, spiritual, sweet, and often funny work.

A Great Book for the Classroom!!!
Shelley, The Hyperactive Turtle is a great book for the classroom. It helps children to understand the symptoms of ADHD, and children with ADHD are able to relate to the story and see that other children feel frustrated too. I used this book in a college presentation for a class called exceptional children and youth. My teacher and I loved it!!!

This is a very appropriate book that describes ADHD
I loved this book and so did my children who all have ADHD. It was extremely helpful. My children were so relieved to find out that they were not alone in their feelings, and that their was someone out there who they could relate to. They love this book and it has generated many questions from them. This book is appropriate for many ages. I gave itto my children's teachers, who requested a book that was appropriatefor the classroom and once they read it, they wanted to order theirown copy. It is child friendly ad very well illustrated. It is gentlenatured and informative. It allows your child to actually understandwhat is going on with them. This is a good book, that your child willask you to read it again and again.

A Must For Children With ADHD
This book was valuable to me in two aspects. Both as a student and as a mother. I recently received my BS in Psychology. My core study was in childhood ADHD. This book helped me to understand the disorder from the child's standpoint. I also found it helpful it as a mother. My 6-year-old son was diagnosed with ADHD two years ago. The first time we read the book together, he looked at me with tears in his eyes and said "Mommy, that's me!" I would recommend this book to anyone who has a small child with this disorder. With my son's permission, I shared the book with his kindergarten class and it helped them to understand him a little better. My son loves this book. It assures him that he is not bad or strange. . . just a little more "wiggly and jumpy," as Ms. Moss put it, than other children.

Growl-Icious Book
I've read all the Cheetah Girls books and Shop in The Name of Love is by far the best. When Chanel gets hold of her mother's credit card she maxes it out and acts like she's large n in charge. She also steals and lies to her freinds and mother.
It teaches an important letter to young Divettes in Traing.
Also read Book 1- Wishing On A Star.

a cheetah certified book
i liked this book becuase it is definitely cheetah-licious!i like the fact that they have no profanities and teaches you a lesson. it makes you feel good and like a divette-in-trianing.i also liked this book because i can read it anytime and not get in trouble or feel disgusted. i'm not used to reading non-sci-fi books so this is a surprise for me.i hope whom ever reads this feels the same way i felt.

Chanel is swell!
I love that each of the cheetah girls book are in a different characters voice and that each of the five characters are so different. I'm latina, so I love the character Chanel who is dominican like me! Shop in the Name of Love is in chanel's voice and she is like a lot of chicas in my neighborhood--``adobo down'' as she says. i hope a lot of other chicas like me read the cheetah girls books. they are coolio!

One of the very best
This is one of the very best books I've ever read. Deborah Smith is my 2nd favorite author (1st is Nora Roberts). Deborah is a master of the human spirit and personality. And her heros are bigger than life. This book is not only a wonderful story, but is full of suspense and surprises. Couldn't put it down. If I could rate it a 10, I would!

A Wonderful Book!
It has been a long time since I read a love story that so wrapped me up -- and also one I will recommend to my 16 year old daughter and to my 60 year old mother. Wonderful character development; excellent plot lines; nice historical touches; good dialog and just on and on . . .! Give it a try -- I just can't believe you will be disappointed. This was my first Deborah Smith book -- it won't be my last.

A book too good to miss!
This is the second book of Ms. Smith's I've read. I loved the first, Blue Willow, and this one is even better. Ms. Smith not only makes you believe in soul mates and love too strong to die, she is an incredible writer. If you enjoy a good love story, I promise you'll love this one.

WOMEN AND PRE-MARITAL SEX
Do you have trouble explaining to others why you want to be sexually pure, or why God wants you to be sexually pure? This book speaks frankly about pre-marital sex. It shows practical examples of a spectrum of women, from those in Bible times to the present time, dealing with different sexual situations. Not only that, this book also speaks about Satan's attacks on us, our areas of weakness (often including our minds as well as our bodies), and how the Lord provides us with love, encouragement, and armor to help us in our DAILY battles. "Single, Whole, & Holy" is a book written for ALL CHRISTIAN WOMEN: singles, "marrieds," virgins, "repentant sinners who vow to maintain secondary virginity," and victims of abuse.

Prior to reading this book, I often wondered how anyone can remain a virgin in this day and age. This book spoke to me not only about how to stay sexually pure, but also the reasons why God wants me to be sexually pure. I have a better understanding of myself, my weaknesses, and how I can rid myself of Satan's strongholds in my life. Most importantly to me, I have come to a better understanding of God's character, and the type of relationship that he offers to me and to all of his children.

A voice worth hearing
I wish I'd had the chance to read this book when I was in my teens or 20s--it would have saved me a lot of heartache. It's from an unabashedly Christian perspective, which isn't where everyone is coming from, but it has sound advice for every woman. Kudos to the authors for writing this, to counterbalance all the pressure young women get from magazines like Cosmopolitan, to always be having sex (maybe before they are emotionally ready, or are in the right relationship). I know I felt that pressure.

A source of hope & strength for ALL single women...
Single, Whole & Holy is a wonderful book that shows women whether they entered into a sexual relationship before marriage by their own choice, or if they were abused in a sexual way, they have hope. It offers real life examples of women who struggle to forgive themselves and those who have hurt them, and shows that forgiveness is possible through Christ!

This is an excellant choice for women who desire to renew their virginity and also those who struggle with staying pure.

Depth of feeling
I loved this book from beginning to end. Looking at the drawings of children that Karen Carrino did, it was evident that she captured their true spirit and essence. I have no doubt that if she were alive today she would be a well known artist. It is amazing that such a young person could have produced this amazing body of work in such a short time.

A tender-hearted artist
Thank you for sharing Karen with us. Her artwork and life touches one deeply. Her connection to children and the beauty within them is apparent in her wonderful drawings and paintings. The book is well written and the story touches the heart.

Innocence of Children
I find this book to be a truly amazing and tragic short life story of a young artist who brings out the innocence of the children and people she drew. It would have been a true honor to know this young woman and to know how she saw people, especially the values she saw in children and how she captured their true beauty! This is a great book for all ages! One of the best books I've read in a long time!

Sweet Lies
Enjoyed reading a fast paced romance novel that kept me flipping those pages!!!!! Oh to be young and falling in love with a good looking and exciting young man who doesn't even realize he's so darn sexy! Get's your juices flowing and makes you want to take off immediately out to the wild, wild west for romance and adventure! Lot's of surprises in store for you along the way that you don't even see coming at you!!! A must read from this exciting new author! I know there is another novel in the works that Mrs. Link is working on! My advice to her is to hurry up.....we're more than ready for the next one!

male opinion
SWEET LIES by Deborah Link is no doubt intended as
a romance novel for women. However, I found it to have
elements of adventure and mystery. It is a good read and
kept my attention throughout a cold, rainy day, along with a
nice hot pot of coffee. The characters are nicely developed
and the action flows smoothly. The romance theme was
definitely an undercurrent, but not so strong as to create a
loss of interest to the male reader.
A 'well done' to Ms. Link, and will be looking forward to future efforts.

Ron R.

"Sweet Lies" is a sweet ride
I loved this book by new author Deborah Link. She has a wonderful way of grabbing you with her delightful characters and taking you on a wonderful adventure. Her characters are spunky and humourous. I definately recommend this book and look foward to more from her!

The Skating Pond

This book intrigued me.....see for yourself!!
The book is about a girl who lives in a town in a remote area of Maine. During the winter her pond freezes and her mother enjoys skating on it. One winter during a "Freak" accident her mother is hurt and the author ( in first person) writes how all of this affects her and her family.

After alot of misfortune, she does find love from two very unlikely sources. One at first almost makes you feel sickened, then the other a more normal relationship.

After so many years and the author trying to get her life together, the first "love" comes back and the second love has to rescue him.

I enjoyed this book, but sometimes it became alittle confusing because the author remembers things and memories, but not always in sequence to what is happening in the story.

GENTLE METAPHORS ¿ STRONG CHARACTERS AND STORY¿
The metaphors in this novel are truly uncountable - but every one is aptly drawn. Combine that with a cast of characters that are so compelling and real, involved in a story with which any reader should be able to relate, and there are plenty of reasons why this novel should be widely read and lauded. The quote on the book from Elizabeth Hardwick, characterizing THE SKATING POND as 'a love story' might lead some potential readers to write it off as romantic fluff - to do so would be to do this novel a great injustice. This is simply incredible writing.

Corey's main character, Elizabeth, is thrust into adulthood at an early age through a double tragedy - the death of her mother and subsequent abandonment by her father. Over the course of twelve years, we see Elizabeth go through the emotional ups and downs that would easily fill most people's lifetimes. Through it all - through her yearnings for more than a life in a remote Maine coastal village can offer her - she remains questioning. She questions the life led by those around her, and she questions herself - what does she really want out of life; what can she expect from it; what does she know of love, and what does she want from it? These are things that each of us must work out for ourselves, in our own way - and Corey's lovely writing allows us inside Elizabeth's mind and heart as she walks (and sometimes stumbles, as do we all) through life.

Corey has a way of revealing the humanity and goodness that resides (I believe) in all people - even the characters in her story that are somewhat less than likable come across sympathetically, at least in some ways. The life-lessons that her central character absorbs here are never presented as set-in-stone or rigid - as another reviewed astutely pointed out, it's all about the choices we make. Those are the ones we have to live with.

I wonder if Corey set out to write such an ambitious novel, or if it 'just happened' to turn out that way. Whatever her original intentions, she has written an absorbing, rewarding and entertaining novel - highly recommended.

Do Yourself a favor and read this book!!
I don't know where this little gem of a book was hiding, but I certainly am glad that I found it. I was immediately drawn to the main character, Elizabeth and found myself rooting for her in her desire for a family life and then later on through her trials with love and loss. To me this book is about the choices we make and how everything that happens to us leaves it's mark on us somehow.

Important if you're a parent
I saw Deborah Roffman speak before I read this book. When she told us that her students (she teaches at a local private school) call her "the sex lady," I wasn't surprised. When she explained some of today's kids' (we're talking kids, not even teens) attitudes about sex, sexuality, and sexual activity, I was very surprised.

I've always considered myself enlightened and pretty progressive, but when it comes to what our kids are thinking and doing, I felt like a Puritan. According to Ms. Roffman, the roles that we as a society thrust on our kids put them under an incredible amount of pressure about themselves, their sexuality, and their values.

This book is written just the way Ms. Roffman speaks -- frankly, straightforwardly, and plainly, with no holds barred. If you're the parent of a pre-teen or teen, or know a pre-teen or teen, you should put this book near the top of your must-read list.

a wonderful read
This book was, in a word, brilliant. Roffman shines in her first published book. Witty and insightful, it should be on every parent's bookshelf.

How to talk about sex - for teachers as well as parents!
Teachers as well as parents will welcome this excellent book that explains children's sexuality education needs at each stage of development. Deborah Roffman is a powerful advocate for children, understanding that in a society that gives confusing and exploitative messages about sexuality, children are desperate for communication from the caring adults in their lives. The book is full of specific examples, often humorous, of difficult situations and questions from Roffman's life as a parent and teacher. Her responses are models of simplicity and good sense. Every adult commited to helping young people develop into sexually healthy adults will want a copy of this book. It provides remarkably clear guidelines for how to do it!
