Eloquent and provocative
Why should we care about the oceans of the earth? This meticulously researched book poses a convincing argument: the physical and chemical cycles and life webs of the sea are under siege from humans, with consequences to reefs, plankton and whales, as well as to our weather, health and livelihood. The threat goes way beyond global warming. Cramer effectively illuminates the problems and consequences while showing how we are all accountable for protecting the great waters -- whether we live in coastal communities or in cities far inland that dump pollutants into waterways that eventually enter the sea.

Poetic Science
Ms. Cramer has achomplished the incredible here--a historic, scientific and poetic tribute to one of our great masses of water.
This book, while inspiring and "novelesque" in scope, also presents
the alarming ecological state of our planet's seas . . . yet not without springs of hope. I love what Cramer has done for all of us.
Good for anyone who gets excited about the sea and/or science!

The Ocean Revealed!
This is an incredible book! It manages to take the last 30 years of ocean science and craft it into a compelling, readable, and eloquent story of the Atlantic and our dependence on it. The science is first rate and up to date; there have been few examples of natural history and environment writing so well done....

Works for me.
With the MCSE and MCSA Certification out there, there is an abundance of books to cover the exams. What helps make the decision to use certain book must be the material contained in the book as well as the information being accurate and up to date.

For the most part this book does a good job tackling the objectives of the Windows 2000 Professional exam by covering topics like installation, configuration, Hardware, protocols, security, administration and troubleshooting.

Like most books out there keeping with small changes in the exam is difficult and these updates can surely be fixed in the next edition. The book gives you over 30 labs to work with, if you are self studying you'll need to find equipment and software to use.

There is also a pre-test questions, pop quizzes through out the book, notes, tips, review questions and exercises with each chapter and a 129 question practice exam in the book. Included with the book is a cd with over 300 more questions. Overall a very good study tool to use.

I used this book and aced the exam.
Took and passed the exam on 1/23/2003 using this book and the BeachFrontware software. I found this book was right on target with the actual exam.

Fantasic!
What a great book! The CD was extremely helpful in aiding me towards exam preparation. The book was well-written, well-organized and spared me a lot of the technobabble so common in these types of books. I know I am going to use it again and again, even after the exam is over.

Men and women worked hard to keep up with ranch life
Deborah Lighfoot Sizemore's The LH7 Ranch: In Houston's Shadow is the fascinating and informative true story of a cattle range that has operated since 1907 and the venerable family who owned it. Men and women worked hard to keep up with ranch life, stand fast through the Great Depression and finally stand up to a conflict with the growing metropolis of Houston. Energetic and aptly researched, The LH7 Ranch is a most compelling and highly recommended slice of Texan-American regional history.

A well-crafted work
Having reviewed books for THE CATTLEMAN magazine for 30 years, I read with pleasure this well-crafted work about a ranch in a part of Texas not commonly associated with ranching and ranch life. The Marks LH7 Ranch was established at the end of the 19th century in an area only about 20 miles west of the center of Houston. The author was fortunate in her work because she was able to interview all four of rancher E.H. Marks' children. This gives her work an immediacy not allowed to some biographers.--Copyright 1992 K.E. Snyder, Friends of the Fort Worth (Texas) Public Library

Loved it!
I got the book for Christmas and read it in two days. I loved it! Boy, what a family! I do a combination of genealogy and local history writing in the vicinity of the old LH7 Ranch and was thrilled to see what the author had done in this book.

This book is the best!
This book is the best, state of the art, tool that will guide you to find your life's work and how to create it. Deborah Knox is one of the rarest and finest career counselors today. She has translated her belief that we all have a purpose here into a functional map for realizing our dreams. This book is a rare opportunity to be guided by a master toward creating our personal vision.

A Career Builder for the 2000's
I have started to keep Life Work Transitions.Com close at hand. There's so much good stuff here that I keep going back for more; turning over in my head what I've read; and looking forward to sections that I have not gotten to - yet.

Whether you're in the midst of a transition or trying to make sense of the constantly changing world of work and how you fit in, this book has the breadth and the depth to help you tackle the job. I like the tie-in to the Web site; but I like even more the balanced perspective that the two authors bring to the table. The book is both high tech and high touch, which in this "fast company" world of ours, we all need. This is a keeper.

Maximum Impact
Finally a career guide that helps you navigate and integrate the resources of the internet in your career journey. Knox and Butzel don't just have a bibliography, they give you the URL right in the text. You can read this book in front of your computer monitor! Your surfing will take on new meaning as you link to other useful information.

The model "Finding Your True North" is the best I have seen. User friendly to career voyager and counselor alike,it integrates the best of the past and creates something new. The Spiritual Autobiography activity is a powerful career assessment tool. This is one of many useful exercises to help you put your plan together.

These two seasoned career professionals have woven a new garment, bringing career development process to life and clothing us with the best of the internet's career resources. Bravo!

Delicious!
Delicious

This book's filled with spirit as well as spirits. Westerners stream through Japanese landscapes as though on delicate rafts, bumping up against ghouls and demons who ride their passions through the afterlife. The encounters are enough to blow life away ... yet somehow at the end of each story the characters seem ready to come back for more. As was I. The settings are so swiftly established, the narrative so compelling, I was eager for each story to become a fullblown novel. Japan is presented through delicate touches, a pointillism of detail, so that what is foreign becomes intimate in a very easy way. As in the best ghost stories, the humans in this book are driven by passions as strong as any ghoul. The book dances with death, yet somehow shows such a love of life that each story cheered me up enormously! It's all highly romantic, splendidly written, and great fun.

Imaginative!
In this collection of eight short stories, the author uses Japanese folklore, exotic settings, Americans abroad, love, and supernatural beings to create interesting, exciting, and fun reading. The characters are playful rather than serious, enabling the reader to quickly feel attached to them. On the way through each superbly crafted plot, are unexpected and rather unusual surprises. What great entertainment! Ghost of a Smile makes exploring short stories a pleasure.

Some of the best stories include one in which a coffee shop owner suspects something amiss with the patrons of a new restaurant ("The Undead of Uguisudani"), one in which a woman loses her lover and becomes enamored of a monk ("Hungry Ghosts in Love"), and one in which a shy librarian is affected by the aphrodisiac qualities imparted to her by a white snake ("The Snake Spell").

Succulent
Ghost of a Smile is a delightful and spooky read. Each story paints a vivid new picture that revels in the country of Japan, its people and the transplants from the West who find themselves there. The main characters of each story have remained with me as distinct people (and ghosts), which is unique in the genre of short fiction. Deborah Boliver Boehme is a witty and incisive author who treats us to sensory delights and surprises in this entertaining tour across cultures and settings.

Valuable information about 10 popular herbs
The Green Guide to Herb Gardening is a very wonderful book that takes ten of the most popular herbs and explores them fully; from planting, care and nurturing of these plants to the harvesting, storage and culinary uses. There are some wonderful recipes for herbs here and I look forward to using some of them. This book covers it all. A must have primer for any beginner or anyone who who has never grown anything.
But what makes this book special is that it doesn't stop there. This book also covers the herb history, magic and folklore of these ten herbs, being basil, calendula, chamomile, chives, garlic, lemon balm, mint, oregano, parsley and thyme. Then Ms. Harding adds herbal teas, aromatic and ornamental uses and some simple magical uses. This now makes this book a very useful handbook worth owning by anyone.
Easy to read and follow, Ms. Harding explains everything fully and presents the material in a well organized and easy to follow format. This book is well researched, and a fountain of information on these herbs. I am hoping she plans to do another book on 10 more herbs, as I found this one a valuable aid to be used.

I Can't Decide What I Like the Most...
Author Deborah C Harding has written a winner in "The Green Guide to Herb Gardening." I can't decide what I like about this book the most, from picking the ten most Popular Herbs, Recipes, Remedies, Magickal Lore or even the format.

Ms Harding has taken the ten most popular herbs, and put together a sure fire way to propagate, prepare and to preserve. With the added history and lore, recipes and remedies, all together. For the first time we do not need 5 different books to learn of an herb. Its all in one. With easy step-by-step directions, wonderful mouth watering recipes, and over a hundred easy home remedies that can save the consumer a mint!

From the beginner gardener to the professional farmer, whether you only have room for two pots, or you have 100 acres. Whether you want to spice up a dish, decorate, beautify yourself or your home. This is the book for you(. . .)

Excellent addition to my herbal gardening shelf....
Ms. Harding's book is clear, concise and easy to understand. She manages to present an informative and yet fascinating view intoten of the most common garden herbs--with all the information neededto get you started working with them. Ms. Harding is a multi-talentedauthor, and this book is worth every penny--I wholeheartedly recommendit...

THE ALL TIME FAVORITE GIRL BOOK
I rated this book five stars.
Why?
I enjoyed reading about how
they all felt about each other.
What I really liked was they finally
got record deal.
The character I liked the most was Chanel
because she was the nice and pretty type.
So that's why I rated this book five stars.

The bomb diggity!
Of all the books I've read I have to say this is the best. The series alone is great! In this book Galleria tries to be the leader of the group and bosses them around. So Chanel tells her it's not happening. (But I like the old Aqua and Angie better, They are featured in the series 1-4)

Well written and engaging
Unlike a lot of cookbooks, this was a delight to read. I find Deborah Madison to be a good observer, and the subject matter benefits from her keen eye--and ear. She certainly finds creative ways to exploit the typical farmer's market fare. The only significant flaw with this book is that Ms. Madison simply tries to cover too much ground--literally and figuratively. Many of the ingredients are obviously regional in nature and availability, and are therefore beyond the reach of many readers. Still, this is a finely crafted volume and the author should be commended for elevating the subject matter to a very high level. Well done!

Wonderful cookbook focusing on FRESH ingredients
Deborah Madison's "Local Flavors" hews to her longtime trajectory along the path of encouraging her readers to make use of what's fresh. Of course what's fresh is always better than what's been shipped in, and Madison focuses on this edict with this cookbook chock-full of recipes making use of fresh, fresh, fresh produce from the farmer's market.

The cookbook is handsomely done, with easy recipes and numbered directions (so helpful when you look away and then need to find your place again). While readers on the coasts or in big cities will have no problem finding the ingredients they need, those in smaller or rural areas will have some difficulty. Ingredients that are regularly called for here include palm sugar, blood oranges, lemon verbena, pineapple sage, chantarelles, orange flower water, and more. Still, the recipes are imaginative, the photography sumptuous, and Madison's enthusiasm for her subject positively contagious.

Deborah hits a home run again!
I just purchased this new cookbook by Deborah and I am not disappointed. Deborah Madison comes across as a teasured friend in all of her cookbooks. You can't help but trust all of her tips and recipes because she is so passionate about fresh, healthy food. In Local Flavors, she packs the book with so much information about shopping and enjoying farmers markets. Buying and using fruits & vegetables in season is not only practical, but ensures you are getting the most delicious produce. This book is for all who believe in "eating by the seasons" and for those who support locally grown foods!
