Strong-willed Child Or Dreamer? - Definately Dreamer!
I found out my daughter was a dreamer at a Christian family conference. When Norman Wright put up the characteristics of a strong-willed child (the only thing that fit in that catagory was stubborness) and then he showed the characteristics of a diplomat/compliant child (nothing there except sensitivity) I thought to myself "Where does mine fit?" She had been a mystery to me for all of her 7 years (she's now 10). THEN he showed us the characteristics of a dreamer...and there she was! Norman Wright said that he wished he'd had this book when his daughter was growing up. It is fantastic! I bought the book that day (and I have since given it to my daughter's skating coach and bought a new one for me) and it was a real eye-opener. My daughter fits the dreamer profile exactly. This book has helped me SO much. There are still times when I slip back into my old ways and forget how she needs to be "handled". She is VERY dramatic and need lots of attention and understanding. I find that when I communicate with her in her style things are great. We're heading into adolescence so this book will never be far from my side. I highly recommend this book to all teachers and coaches. My daughter's teacher once commented to me that my daughter is the typical only child and typical gifted student, and I wanted to tell her, no, she's a typical dreamer. Which means there is nothing "typical" about her.

Very helpful to my family...
I've ordered 9 copies of this book...and will probably order more. In our family, we have the whole spectrum....drivers, diplomats, creatives, etc. I am a creative-sensitive dreamer who raised two daughters. The older one is a strong willed doer; the other one, a cautious-compliant doer. My ex-husband is a strong-willed doer....so you see the potential for disaster here.

In the last 10 years, we've all been sorting out and healing from the various types of clashes...and happy to say, we are all well, happy and adjusting! But the book has given us all such insight into the past, even to helping me resolve questions from my own childhood.

My husband and I have been married three years, and it is an entirely different mixture. Friends and I have wondered if you should actually wait til your 40s and 50s to marry for the FIRST time..... Well, no...not if you want children, but I do think this book gives us a good tool to use in understanding ourselves in order to make better relationship decisions.

Thanks.

Finally, We Understand Our Son
Finding balance between the ADHD debate and Dobson's "Strong Willed Child" the authors have given us new hope! We now have a much better understanding of our 8-year-old, and family life is so much better! Before buying into the ADHD labels and meds or the exasperating approaches to dealing with strong wills, every parent should read this work. We have recommended this to teachers . . . and they are thrilled with the transformation that has taken place in their classrooms as a result.

A must have book for parents, teachers and caregivers
My son was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 4. I was lucky enough to have a friend recommend I attend a conference dealing with Applied Behavioral Analysis(ABA). During the break I wandered through the hundreds of books available for purchase in the lobby. Needless to say, I was overwhelmed.

Surrounded by parents of Autistic children, caregivers, special education teachers and psychologists, I decided to ask for help. Each person I asked "which is the best book to buy first?" pointed to "A work in progress".

2 years later this is the book I recommend to anyone interested in learning about ABA, or implementing a behavioral program for their child.

From toilet training to social skills, how to teach imaginative play to basic conversations, Ron Leaf left no stone unturned.

The instructions, explanations and examples are clear and concise. You will learn about ABA and how to implement a home program with this easy to use guide. For professionals and novices alike, this book will be a tremendous help. Though we have moved on to the more advanced "Teach me language", "A work in progress" is always close at hand.

"Nothing is impossible, some things just require more steps"

Very good and practical book
I have an Autism child. I am very pleased with this book which it really straight to the point to describe the practical and good techniques to teach children with Autism. This book also described a lot of good and true example of challenges that the parents and the therapists faced in their daily life.

Readable and workable
This is a very readable book on ABA. We set up our son's program using this book while deciding on a trainer. I found this much easier to use and understand than other books on curriculae (ie. the Maurice book), although we have taken ideas from both. I did think also, there are more understandable ideas on building on each trial you start.

A must read for all ministers
While the focus is on youth ministry, the ideas and principles in this book should be read by anybody who is a minister within the church. The "radical" idea of the book is that the church should be focused on changing the heart of people and society in order for all people to reach and strive for a relationship with God.
If you are looking for another gimmick in order to make a youth ministry program grow, this book is not for you. If you are looking for a book in how to minister to youth, thier families and the people who work with them, then this needs to be on your shelf.

You've gotta read this book
If you are interested in ministering to others, this book is a great place to start laying or to strengthen your foundation. Although the authors wrote with youth ministry in mind, anyone can apply the principles. The book is easy to read and hard to put down. The ideas and concepts the authors share are easy to put into practice. Godbearing does not give a formula for a ministry rather the book challenges the reader to think and reflect. The ideas will impact the youth and/or your ministry because you are the one that affects them. Of all the books I have read Godbearing has been one of the most challenging and impacting to me and how I minister. This also makes a great study book for a youth staff, a class, or a few people; read a chapter and then discuss it. There is too much information in Godbearing to take it all in with just one reading. I highly recommend this book.

Better than Purpose Driven!
This book tells you what Youth Ministry is all about...YOUTH! We are called to be Pastors to Youth not Recreation Directors. I encourage all who are in Youth Ministry or desire to work with youth to read this book. It gives great advise as to what and how we should work with Youth. Godbearing life will bring a NEW LIFE to your ministry and your walk with Christ!

An intimate look at a terribly long and difficult journey
Rarely do we ever have an opportunity to read a man's personal diary and letters. Ron Gries never dreamed that his many and varied views of his wife's long struggle with cancer would end up in a book, but that's what happened. The poems he wrote only for himself and the letters to their children could have been edited, but they were not. This makes the book totally real. He did a fine job of adding just enough to blend his log entries together. What an inspiring guide for those who are grieving! This book gives friends and neighbors clues what to say and do for a loved one who is terminally ill.

We were neighbors of Patty and Ron from 1969 until 1978, raising kids and playing bridge. Then we knew each other casually. Readers of this book get an intimate look at one man's journey through death to life.

Through Death to Life by Ron Gries
This is the first grief book that I have read from a male perspective - what a joy to read it! It is the story of an unbelievably difficult journey for both patient (Patty) and caregiver (Ron). As someone who has suffered two recent losses - and also someone who helps to facilitate Grief Recovery classes, I found myself deeply helped by his sharing. I also have marked several pages to read at my next Grief Recovery class.

Final years of a beautiful marriage - a truly amazing story!

Delightful........
The book I read aloud to my 7 year old daughter is the 1956, 1957 Copyright with a yellow hardback cover with drawings of dogs on it. The illustrators are Janet and Anne Grahame-Johnstone.

This book is fun and exciting and is more enjoyable than the Disney cartoon version. You will be surprised by the Dalmation Perdita in this book. She is not what you expect. Also, you will not find out where the "101th Dalmation" comes from until the last two chapters unless you are very, very perceptive. I kept coming up with 100 total Dalmations until the very end.

This book is a must read for everyone; but, you will probably have to borrow it from your local library. This book needs to be rereleased.

The movies have nothing on this delightful story
We bought this audio book hoping to wean our young children (who enjoyed both movie versions of this book very much) off of movies and get them more interested in "real stories."

I have to tell you that this story far exceeded my expectations. Not only was it a fun story that my children enjoyed immensely, but one with subtleties, humor and bits of truth sprinkled throughout that had me listening and laughing right alongside them.

There are a lot of dog stories out there and I admit to being a dog-lover (well at least of big dogs), but this is a lot more than just a dog story. Certainly there's a great deal of humor, adventure and ... Dalmatians... but underneath all that you get many tidbits of truth that are applicable to life itself.

Martin Jarvis does a fabulous job in narrating this unabridged classic. Highly recommended!

The whole family will find this fun and a fine listen
101 Dalmations deserves ongoing mention as an excellent audio that will appeal to a wide age range. Martin Jarvis' smooth voice provides a clear, unabridged production bringing to life the classic story of a host of puppies who must escape the cruel Cruella de Vil in order to get back to their home. Cruella has a fur coat in mind - made of dalmations. The whole family will find this fun and a fine listen.

Flags on Iwo Jima
Flags of Our Fathers is a grand book by James Bradley. It is about the small island of Iwo Jima is in the pacific region. It is a Japanese controlled airstrip close to the country of Japan. The Americans wanted to take control of this very small island because it is a prime place to re-fuel and land aircraft on, the island before they go to attack Japan. This book is about six men and the rest of the Marines and Navy that all go to the island to take control of it.

Those six men fought on that island and they raised the flag on top of Mount Suribachi. They started the famous image taken by Mr. Rosenthal.

This in my view is the greatest book in world. It is a very touching and emotional book. It was sad and really spoke to me. It is hard to believe that these men were just doing their duty.
I recommend this splendid book to anybody that wants to read a very touching book about the heros of Iwo Jima.

Best book I have ever read
This book was the complete package! It gave a backround of each man on Iowa Gima that raised the flag. Then went into each mans way of getting to Mount Sirabachi. Then in the end of the book went into what each one did when they came back from the war. Couldn't put it down and have read it three times since I recieved it. You will not regret buying this book.

A MUST READ!!!!!
This is an awesome book. It had me glued from page one. If you don't read any other book this year, make sure that this is the one. I can only hope that a movie will follow for these amazing men and all of the other people that fought and died for our country. We owe them and this book is a fitting tribute to them. I only wish that this would have been written earlier. KUDO's to you.

The Medicine of the Future
Dr. Oz is an accomplished heart surgeon in the field of cardiac transplantation. He describes how he combines complementary medicine (e.g. hypnosis, reflexology, yoga, message, acupuncture. Etc) with orthodox Western medicine. There is an excellent forward by Dr Dean Ornish, and an interesting epilogue containing an overview of the complementary medicine techniques. The bulk of the book contains stories of patients Dr. Oz treated using this revolutionary way. I am a cardiologist, and I have a great interest in combining western medicine with complementary medicine, which is the reason I bought this book. However this book was a bit boring to read and was also a bit of a disappointment. Nevertheless, those interested in this new medicine, which I think will be the medicine of the new millennium, will want to read this book.

FANTASTIC BOOK - SUPERBLY WRITTEN!
What is impressive about this book is the author's concepts of healing both heart and mind as he points out just how closely the two are interconnected. The writing style is one that will grasp the reader's attention from start to finish. The approach to holistic health is a welcome approach to healing. It is a concept that is gradually increasing in the health care field, but one that still has a long way to go before it is universally accepted by all physicians. More education and information needs to be provided in this area to all health care providers. Using the holistic approach, there can be fewer side effects from medication, less depression and a general feeling of well being during the most trying and difficult times. There is much to be said on combining Western and Eastern traditions in the process of healing. Our world can benefit dramatically from this approach and the author vividly explains why throughout the pages of this well-researched and superbly written book. It is highly recommended reading material and most deserving of a five star rating.

Best book of the year
A great book describing an insiders view of what total healing can mean in today's complex medical care system. The book has deservedly won the Books for Better America award for Best Wellness Book of the Year and should be required reading for all patients contemplating surgery.
