Very helpful
I haven't done many of the suggested drills, but simply as bedside reading this book does a fantastic job breaking down critical elements of the game. I've used many tips I learned from it, especially in baserunning, with success. In baseball you can think too little, and you can think too much; this book finds the right level.

Should be required reading for every baseball player
Rod Delmonico tells you a lot of things in this book you probably have heared before. But then I'm sure even an experienced coach will find some great new hints. Also, I have never seen so much vital information about how to play the game of baseball put together in one place in such a consice and easy to read way. Rod teaches you basically about bunting and base running. A chapter covering the basics of hitting (again mentioning everything important in just a couple of pages) is included as well. Curiously though the actual hit and run play isn't covered. Only bunt and steal plays, as well as general base running are included. Those are covered expertly though. I will make this book required reading for my players (since it's not too long, you can read it within four hours). I loved the fact that Rod didn't relate any boring stories from his own experience, like many other baseball book authors do, but just put down material you could use directly.

Why sit back and wait when you can make things happen
This book is a great guide to an aggressive style offense. As a player I like to take the game to the opponent and make them work. Coach Delmonico shows the essentials to an aggressive offense. I plan on incorporating some of the ideas in this book into my own coaching style. Sitting back and waiting for the big inning can win some games, but aggressive offense can win more games. I recommend it highly to all coaches.

Moms should sneak a peak (and a laugh) too
You might buy this book as kind of a gag gift for new dads, but it is loaded with actual content. How to skip a rock across a pond. How to teach a kid to ride a bike. Etc. The kinds of things you really admired your dad for because he could do them; the kinds of things you would like your kid to remember you for. It's funny and light-hearteded but years later you will still be sneaking a peak at it for a refresher course (even moms will!)

Humorous and informative!!
As the founding "Father" of a group of at-home-dads I'm always on the hunt for any kind of helpful resource to pass on to my Dads. This book has proven to be one of the most well received. As any of you that have read my other reviews know, I RARELY give 5 stars. This book is just that well put together.

The book doesn't dwell on the fact that Fatherhood is just now coming into it's own. Instead, it presents basic Dad-stuff info in an easily digestible and accurate fashion in combination with some pretty humorously drawn pix.

Each topic, from tying shoes to riding a bike to tying a tie (roughly) takes about a page or so and presents it's information fairly in depth, but still very easily read. Imagine this as the little yellow book you got for your driver's test; there's 10,000 other things you'll need to know also, but this will help you pass the tests that tend to show up every few months after the age of 4.

I highly recommend this book for any new Dad; At-home or not!!

Excellant, funny resource for new fathers
This book makes a great gift for expectant or new fathers. It offers instructions on everything from teaching how to tie knots to teaching a child how to ride a bike! Humor and good instructions help the new dad as they grow with their child.

I hope you will never need this book ...
My husband was diagnosed with cancer when our daughter was just 9 months old. We are a little over 2 years into our struggle with his illness. I found McCue and Bonn's book immensly helpful at this difficult time. It covers everything from diagnosis, to coming home from the hospital or, God forbid, the parent's death. It also covers long term illnesses. The book is filled with practical advice. If you are struggling with a very sick parent (or other loved one) in your family right now, you need all the help you can get. After reading this book, I feel like I have the tools to help my daughter through this process whatever the outcome might be. It was incredibly helpful.

A MUST READ!
This book is a tremendous resource for families who are facing serious illness and approaching death. The book gave me helpful advice on when to seek counseling help for my children, signals of depression and failure to cope in children, how to explain about hereditary diseases, and how to help children prepare to visit the hospital. In my own situation, my husband has a progressive muscular disease that has affected his lung/breathing processes. This disease can result in immediate death and I felt that my children needed to be prepared for that. I actually handled my chidlren's first trip to the hospital badly and they both reacted negatively--I wish I would have had this resource then! From time to time I refer back to this helpful book whenever a new situation arises and after reading it, I feel that I have a better understanding of how children see an illness, how they react to it, and how to explain it to them. I'd really like to see a sequel to it that goes into areas such as what to do when the kids are in denial and don't want to know; dealing with relatives who disagree with the methods chosen on helping the child deal with the illness, and how to handle emergencies that happen at home with the ill parent. In any case, this book is a necessity for families!

A unique book to help you help others!
How to Help Children Through a Parent's Serious Illness is a wondeful resource for professional and home use! There are so many books designed to help children and parents with a child's illness but practically nothing available to help the children of adult patients deal with an adult illness, accident, or death. Kathleen and Ron are skillful and concise in sharing dozens of pointers and case examples that will help any adult in this situation. I work in a hospital and refer to the book often. We've shared it with nurses and doctors-all have found it "right on target". I know it would be a wonderful resource for use at home too. Two thumbs up to Kathleen and Ron for filling a big gap!

For beginning and experienced writers alike
WOW! I picked up this book at a writer's conference. I have kept a journal for years (well, 30 years to be exact), and found much inspiration in Klugs book.

The chapter "Caring for Your Soul" outlines the step-by-step process of meditating on scripture and journaling about the verses the Holy Spirit illuminates within you. "Begin reading slowly and stop when a word or phrase seems highlighted for you, when it 'shimmers' with meaning, when the Holy Spirit is addressing you through these words." I think this would be especially helpful for new Christians or for more mature Christians who feel stuck for some reason.

There is also a chapter, "Harvesting Your Journal," which contains suggestions for reviewing, summarizing, and indexing your journal(s). The Resource list suggests Harveting Your Journals by Rosalie Deer heart and Alison Strickland. I'm definitely going to get that book.

This book should be in every Christian's library.

The ultimate resource for keeping a journal!
I've been journaling on and off for years, more on than off for the last few years! Ronald Klug does an outstanding job of explaining the importance of keeping a journal, ideas to get you going, suggestions of things to write about, etc.

Keeping a journal has been one of the most satisfying and helpful things I've done in my Christian walk. When you go back to read it later, you can really see God's working in your life!

One of the things that Klug addresses that I've never seen anywhere else is the "problem" of what do to with notes you might be taking on books you're currently reading. Do you incorporate them into your daily journal, or keep a separate notebook? I'm journaling every day and reading my Bible and other books every day, and this is something that I've done different ways and I haven't found any one solution to be entirely satisfactory. I thought it was wonderful that the author even addressed the "problem"! I want to be able to find notes on a particular book I'm reading easily, and if they're scattered throughout the dailyness of your writing, that is harder to do.

He suggests keeping notes from other books you are reading in a separate notebook from your daily journal. And he suggests indexing them so you know what's in that notebook! An excellent suggestion and one I hadn't tried before. Just leave the first page blank and you could write which books' notes are contained in the book, and you could even add page numbers. I think this is a great idea!

As for brief quotes that you might be struck by, or particular scripture passages that you're learning about, you could include those in your daily journal.

The author says that he writes in spiral notebooks of lined paper. When he's finished, he puts them in a binder so that he has them all in order. While I prefer the small hardcover spiral-bound books that you find in Christian bookstores for journaling purposes, having them all together and in order is an attractive option! I also prefer using colorful Gelly Roll pens that are archival safe and permanent.

However you do it, Ronald Klug emphasizes that however you keep your journal is right for you. Whether you write it or dictate it or type it, whether you write in it twice a day, twice a week, or twice a year - it's a valuable tool for spiritual growth.

Please check out my other reviews of Christian books!

Happy journaling!

A Great "Kick" Starter
How To Keep a Spiritual Journal by Ronald Klug is a great source of inspiration for journal writing. It is the most comprehensive book on the subject o f journal writing that I've ever read. Mr. Klug gives many examples from his own journal writing, and he gives many approaches as well as ways to "get going" when you feel stuck. I read, and re-read the book and have loaned it and recommended it to friends who then bought their own copies. I find it a great resource. The most important thing Mr. Klug says about journal writing is that your journal is your journal, and you write it for your own reasons, so there's no one approach you MUST use. That's what I like about journal writing. I think you will find this book very encouraging and supportive for ANY reason that you want to write a journal.

How to Survive the IRS: My Battles Against Goliath

Mighty Minns/strikes again
This book should inflame every reader to demand congress to taken action and slay this beast. From the TERMINATOR of the HOBBLE IN BOSTON to the Lawlessness of the Courts in Buford & SON to the OKLAHOMA WITCH TRIAL ,Minns exsposes the underbelly of the beast.

Finally, a factual book about the dark side of the IRS
I am an economics professor at a university located in Washington State. I recently received a copy of Mr. Minn's book from a friend of mine at the Seattle Times. I think I have read every major book on the IRS, but Mr. Minn's book provides new facts and information. Minns not only dispells any doubts that taxpayers may have about the ruthless antics of the IRS, but he also provides valuable tips and information about tax code, tax shelters, offshore banking and important guidelines for staying out of harm's way with the IRS. I was extremely moved as he shared the blow-by-blow accounts of his IRS court cases, and was appauled by the devastating and unconscionable acts that some IRS agents employed in order to bring about charges of tax evasion. From one who has considered himself an expert on tax law and the IRS, my hat is off to this vallant crusader. I was highly enlightened and recommend this book to any taxpayer who wishes to avoid the attention of the IRS.

If you file a Tax Return, this book is a must read!!
Here I am in the beginning of what promises to be the busiest "tax season" ever, and into my office comes "How to Survive the IRS", a pulse quickening, rapid read of struggles with the formidable Internal Revenue Service by one of the great champions of the people. I couldn't put it down! Unlike other lawyers who surrender to the IRS' maze of bureaucracy and deceptions, Michael Minns goes in with the singular intent to fight and win for his clients who have been wronged. His insight and tenacity are unparalleled, his candor refreshing and his integrity embraced by those of us who strive daily to right the wrongs to our fellow citizens. I highly recommend this book to all of my clients and tell them to pass it on. His first book "The Underground Lawyer" was just a interesting and is a must read for everyone who needs a lawyer.

A purrr-fect book for pet lovers!
I've taken pictures of my pets nearly all my life, but until I read "How to Take Great Pet Pictures," too many of my pictures never captured the true spirit of my pets. After spending just a short time reading this beautifully-illustrated, well-written book, I now feel like I can finally take those great pet pictures I've always wanted, but never managed to create. Thanks, Ron, for the wonderful tips and the great inspiration!

Great pictures of great pets!
I can't wait to get my copy of Ron's latest book. I'm sure it will be every bit as good as his earlier book on photographing children, which I loved and used as gifts for expectant parents and grandparents.

As a proud owner of seven pets and being married to a veterinarian, I have plenty of opportunities to take unique and unusual pictures of animals, including mountain lions, bears, snakes, and even a bald eagle that my husband has treated. Now I'll know how to best capture those moments to be remembered and shared for years to come.

Thanks, Ron!

No bones about it
What a delightful read. With a witty pen and great examples, Nichols has crafted a wonderful book for pet owners who want to capture important moments on film. There are tips for those of us with modest camera skills and even some for professionals.

Bravo!

This book has been great for my kids!
One thing that was missing in my own education was instruction on how to properly use a dictionary. Usually, when I tried to look up a word, I went away more confused than before!

This book explains the proper method of using a dictionary so more confusion does not result! Which may not seem, at the outset, to be very important, but I believe it is the single most important aspect of education.

In modern education, children are usually taught to "guess" at the meanings of words. Which might sound fine, unless your mother is about to undergo surgery, and you consider the strong possibility the surgeon about to put her under the knife came across plenty of words in his study that he was told to "guess the meaning" of. Or how about the next time you board a plane? Do you really want a pilot who was taught to just "guess" at those definitions? I sure wouldn't want a lawyer to draft a contract on my behalf, unless I knew for certain that HE knew the definition of every "heretofore" and "forthwith"! ("heretofore" means "up to this time" and "forthwith" means "immediately".)

To be truly successful, one must fully understand the meanings of the words one comes across in life, and especially in one's profession.

This book will give your child that advantage. His SAT scores will be better. His ability to fully understand what he is studying depends upon his ability to discover the exact meaning of the words he comes across. His LOVE of study depends on this as well!

My children studied this book, and continue to apply the principles. When they come across words they don't understand, they get them defined! As a result, they are bright and interested in learning.

With this book, you will not only learn HOW to use a dictionary, but WHAT dictionaries to use.

I recommend this book to every parent I know...

My son is a great reader, largely due to this book
This book taught my son the basics of using a dictionary. He is 9 years old, and read this book when he was 6. He feels that there is NOTHING he can't study, simply due to what he learned from studying this book.

He has read books written for grown-ups, and he can read the newspaper, too. Whenever he comes across a word he doesn't understand, he looks it up in the dictionary! It really impresses people when a child asks them, "what does that word mean?" It seems that most kids are so used to hearing words they don't know the meanings of, that they just learn to brush past it.

This book teaches HOW to get the definition of a word, and it makes it easy to do so. Instead of getting MORE confused trying to look a word up in the dictionary, all the secrets to HOW to find these definitions successfully are in this book.

I love this one, and I think ANY adult or child could benefit from it!

This book will open the door to learning
By far the most under-used and least understood book in the field of education is the Dictionary. The book teaches an individual how to use a Dictionary. It will give you a fundamental understanding of how to trace the origin of words, pronounce them, define them to achieve full understanding and much more. This book belongs at the entry level to any step in education, and deserves to be in broad use. I recommend it for both children and adults.

How to Win the Insurance Claim Game

PHENOMENAL
This is the greatest book out there on dealing with insurance and the home. I wish it was more publicized! I had a huge problem after a hurricane ripped apart my house, but I read this book and when I dealt with the insurance company, their faces were shocked when they saw how much I knew. They realized that I wasn't going to get [taken for a ride] and they gave me all I deserved. Ron, you are a life saver. Everyone GET THIS BOOK!

Incredible Information
The author, Ron Alford, was interviewed on MSNBC about the Oklahoma Tornado victims, talking about what people can do to plan for disasters, large and small. I got this book the same day, and now I feel prepared and aware of so much that I never thought about before. It is really good stuff, and I thank the author for sharing his "insider's information" that insurance people never will. I am ready for claim day.

This book should be read by every home owner
How to Win the Insurance Claim Game was given to me by a friend who had read it. I breezed thru it, and put it on the shelf. UNTIL THE DAY A PIPE BROKE AND RUINED 1/2 OF MY HOUSE. I grabbed that book and followed the information, which guided me through the claims process. I felt like the book was written about me! It helped so much, and the things I learned from it, I figure made the difference in about $13,000 of what the insurance co. would have TRIED to give me. Knowledge is power. Read this book.

Hard Measures Are The Cost Of Admission
As a former director or vice president of human resources in three different large companies over 14 years, I can't remember the number of times my bosses and peers challenged me to provide the business case for one hr program or another, either when developing a budget for the coming fiscal year, or defending a budget during hard times. For years, I lost more of those arguments than I won because I didn't always hold myself accountable to the same standards to which other functions were held, nor was I expected to. Over time, my staffs and I got better at measuring the impact of our strategies on various measures of organizational performance, and with that came budgetary "victories" and greater respect as business partners. That's what The Human Resources Scorecard is all about, and by reading and using the wisdom it contains, newcomers to the hr function and late adapters of hr measurement, can enjoy in relatively short order success and respect, which are the "price of admission" to the "executive suite". Having achieved that credibility, we then have the challenge of elevating our conversations with our bosses, peers and clients regarding the intangible dimensions of human and organizational soul, but that's another book in this series.

Excellent !!
Super reference guide. Case studies are well organized and meaningful.

Great For All Audiences
This is a comprehensive guide for evaluating any type of Human Resource Development (HRD) program. Even if you do not have a background in measurement and evaluation, you would be able to pick up this book and begin to understand the important aspects to consider in evaluation and how to plan and conduct an effective evaluation. The case studies in this book are valuable because they go into detail - you feel you have been a part of the program described. The authors are experienced practitioners who have alot to share and they do a terrific job providing the reader with the benefits of their experience.
