The book's story and illustration are charming and whimsical. Anyone who has ever asked (or still asks) the question "What should I do when I grow up?" will love the story.
"As you know, every year on this same exact day, His Highness requests in the same exact way that each child in the kingdom aged seven and eight state their plans for the future before it's too late."
And so the story begins...Everyone is able to state their plans, except for one Eric Van Noodle. You will enjoy the rhyme and rhythm of this book, the colorful illustrations, and the story and it's unexpected outcome. My son enjoys the book almost as much as I do.
I might also add that the book makes a wonderful gift for your adult friends. After reading it I bought 3 copies to give as gifts. Everyone loved it!

Rosemary Ellen Guiley is a multi-published author of nonfiction books. Some of her other books are Angels of Mercy and The Miracle of Prayer. I met Guiley when interviewing her for my cable TV show Author Chat. She is a charming woman of quiet grace and beauty. She explained the way she gathers true stories for her books is to interview people who share their experiences with her. She is usually referred to these people by other authors or church groups. Another method she uses for some of her books is in-depth research. Her two books on prayer were completed after thousands of hours spent hunched over old prayer books in the Library of Congress.
I have Blessings: Prayers for the Home and Family and Wellness: Prayers for Comfort and Healing by Rosemary Guiley. These are part of my permanent collection.
All Rosemary's books are inspirational but I BRING YOU GLAD TIDINGS is special because of the diversity of people who participated in this compilation of true stories of Christmas Angels. Rosemary trusted her angelic forces to guide her to the right people to share their stories for this book.
The book opens with a brief introduction about Christmas and the birth of Jesus Christ. Rosemary states, "...the story of Jesus cannot be told without angels."
She reminds us that the messengers of God play an important role in all of our lives, though we often aren't aware of it. At Christmastime, especially, we are more open to belief in miracles. It truly is a time for glad tidings. It is a time when we are reminded that whatever trials we face, we have the strength to prevail.
At Christmas, our thoughts naturally turn to angels. They are on greeting cards, depicted in ornaments and other Christmas decorations. But Angels are not a figment of the imagination. They are real beings of power and majesty who have as a purpose to help mankind.
An encounter with an angel is called an angelophany and doesn't usually involve a winged creature. Angels appear as real people to us in a visual presentation, or they may be the inner voice. If you wish to be blessed with the realization of angels in your life, read this book with an open mind and heart. It could change your life for the better.
While all the experiences in the book are different they share one thing in common: transformation. Whenever we accept an angelic presence it is for our greater good.
I highly recommend this book because every story is special and uplifting. It makes a wonderful gift as well as a keeper for your own library. Imagine, over 200 pages of nothing but good news. It's something we all need in this upside down and inside out world of cares and trouble.

Kids love this book because they identify so completely with Max, even kids who don't have bossy big sisters. Max's adventures mirror those of all little children who are trying to figure out their often confusing world. ... A full Max & Ruby library is one of the best ongoing gifts for pre-school children.
The illustrations are more detailed, and the colors more interesting than in the Max board books. It's done in a way that the pictures all look bathed in candlelight, which creates a perfect atmosphere for the book. That's one of the things that makes this book even better than the other books in the series.
The recommendations for this book say it is for toddlers to pre-school children, but my kids continued to love it and want to hear it every year until they were about eight. My son loved it so much that I have him on tape reciting it by heart at age three.
If you have little ones to read to at Christmas, this is a must-have!

The text is very short, it is only ten pages long, and Ruby's expression when she prepares to let go of the carriage is priceless. "MAX's Ride," is a board book that measures 7" x 7" x ΒΌ". The illustrations are bright, colorful and expressive, however, the wording is a little awkward to read aloud, but not as difficult as some of the author's other books. Birth and up.

This is a cute counting book, especially for fans of this charming brother-sister bunny duo. But the ending is rather abrupt and always leaves my child wondering what happens next.
I love to give this book as a new-baby gift. It is a delight!
