Beautiful illustrations and a delightful story for all!
My whole family loved this very special and heartwarming version of A Fisherman and His Wife. The illustrations are a joy to look at again and again. They are filled with color, humor, spendid detail, and are literally spilling out of the pages. We especially Love the rainbow lobsters and, of course, the cats, as the main characters. A book full of energy, wisedom and integrity-one of my all time favorite picture books!

Excellent reading for childern of all ages.
A well written book. It reminds you what is important in life. The drawings are vivid and full of life. I especially liked the drawings of the brown tiger striped cat, Ragnar. He reminds me of my own cat. Excellent reading for childen of all ages.

A comprehensive and readible guide to Greek cuisine.
After recently spending 2 months in Greece and thoroughly enjoying the Greek cuisine, I was delighted to find this comprehensive yet readible guide. The author shares insight into the essentials for setting up a Greek kitchen and preparing the recipes in the traditional way along with modern preparation tips. I loved her way of sharing the fellowship and joy of the Greek dining experience. Flavors of Greece made me homesick!

Great Greek recipes
I have visited Greece many times, and have wanted a cookbook that had recipes for the delicious food I have eaten there that would allow me to prepare this great cuisine at home. This is the first cookbook that has met my needs. The recipe for pork souvlaki is outstanding, and I have never had a dish turn out less than wonderful from this book. It needs to be reprinted!!

Fuzzy Rabbit-I love it!
Fuzzy Rabbit is truely a happy rabbit, until he begins to feel abandoned by his little girl owner when she gets an owl for her birthday and she begins to pay more attention to him than to Fuzzy. He becomes very sad, until he realizes how much he means to her, and how important he really is. I truely fell in love with this book, and would reccommend it to anyone, child or adult.

Fuzzy Rabbit-I love it!
I love this book so much, I am planning to try to recreate Fuzzy for myself as a stuffed toy! I am trying to find all the materials I need to make this great character come to life for me. I truely feel that of all the childrens' books I have (and I have many), this one is truely the cutest and happiest. I can't wait to have children of my own to read it to! But, until I do, I'll just have to keep reading it myself!

Lo, a rose er'e blooming.....
A number of years ago, I made my first trip to Europe during the off season--the colder months. The days are shorter, but the museums are less crowded, you can usually find a reasonable air fare, and the Europeans have returned to their cafes and pubs giving them an ambiance missing when too many tourists are about.

I enjoy photography, and I particularly like shooting architecture and gardens. I've taken plenty of shots when the foliage and flowers were in full bloom, but until I made my first trip to Amsterdam one December, I had never realized churches, cathedrals, and fine old houses and gardens have an entirely different look in winter. One can see and photograph the structures of buildings and the "bones" of gardens when foliage dies back. "Bones" of course are the underlying design of the garden beds, plus trellises, porticos, arbors, paths and pots. Not only can one see more of the archtecture of the garden in the middle of winter, but the well constucted garden is not dead. I came to understand what the European Christmas carol, "Lo, a rose er'e blooming" was about after a visit to a garden in the middle of winter--the Christmas rose is a type of Hellebore, and Hellebores can bloom all winter long.

But Hellebores are not the only interesting plant. As Rosemary Veery says in her book, THE GARDEN IN WINTER, some plants such as the Rosa chinensis, Viola, Bergenia, Anemone, and Cyclomen, bloom intermittenly throughout the winter, and there are "characteristic" winter-bloomers such as many types of bulbs, Camellias, Arbutus, and Buddleja.

Veery says beauty in the winter garden is not restricted to flowers. Plenty of trees, bushes, and grasses provide color, form, and texture thoughout the winter winter months, and some of them are stunning in a snowfall. Depending on your growing zone you may have Holly, Viburnum, Nandina, Pyracantha, and Barberry covered with berries for the birds. Many trees have beutiful bark that shows best in winter including Crepe Myrtle, Sycamore, Birches, and Red-Twig Dogwood (Cornus alba 'Siberica'). Other trees have interesting shapes that can only be appreciated when the foliage is spent, such as Harry Lauder's Walking Stick. And, there are grasses in every size, shape and texture, and ground covers that stay green or red or brown throughout the growing seasons.

Veery is one of the premiere gardeners in England, and although you may find some of her suggestions beyond your pocketbook or the space you have available (box topiary anyone??) you will find many interesting ideas and wonderful photographs that are sure to inspire you to begin thinking about gardening all year round. You might also be inspired to visit some of the gardens Veery pictures in her book, or other gardens closer to home in winter. My favorite is garden is Sissinghurst, one of the most beautiful sights around in the middle of winter or anytime of year.

Enlightening
Most gardeners put away their tools and forget about their gardens until Spring, especially those of us who live in snowy winter locations! But Rosemary Verey brilliantly shows that there's no reason to ignore winter as a flowering season. This book proves that every garden should have a winter corner to enjoy by showing us that there are so many treasures to brighten up the dreariest season. Beauty can be found in any weather! This book is also a lovely reminder of gardening in the UK.

Getting to Know You! : Rodgers and Hammerstein Favorites

Rogers and Hammerstein and Rosemary Wells!
How could you not love this book; some of the greatest songs written for american theatre illustrated by one of the great artists of children's books. If you have a small son or daughter, buy this book! ESPECIALLY if they:

1: Love musicals (like my son)
2: Love Rosemary Wells (like my son)

Great songs, beautiful illustrations
Well, I was able to judge this book by its cover: I love Rodgers & Hammerstein songs (you don't even have to be a great singer to pull them off!), and I love Rosemary Wells' witty illustrations. The marriage of songs and pictures is magical. Only the verse of each song is in the illustrated section of the book, but that won't stop you from singing the whole song if you (and your child) feel like it! A songbook with complete lyrics is included, so get into that rocking chair with or without your favorite kid, and belt 'em out!

Wonderful stories, imaginatively told
An eight year old girl meets a friendly dragon while on a beach vacation in England, and he tells her stories about his past as one of the companions of King Arthur.

I first read this book and its sequels, The Dragon's Quest and Dragon in Danger, as a child and am now passing them on to my own children. I can't believe they are out of print - any publishers out there?!

magical tale
Wonderful, lyrical story spurs the imagination and creates vivid visual images. We read it aloud as a family over a holiday weekend, to the delight of one and all! We loved the dragon's variable personality as well as the fantastic tales and adventures he shares with 8 year old Sue.

Outstanding; the ideal treatment of a sensitive subject
No need to feel embarrassed: everybody suffers from IBS from time to time. I was looking for a book that would offer more than a study guide to the digestive system combined with an encyclopedia on dietary measures, and I wound up more pleased than ever! Author Rosemary Nicol's diverse handling of everything from symptoms (both physical and emotional) of IBS and similar ailments, to stress management, antidotes and diet is absolutely impressive.

I'm not sure what her background is, but Ms. Nicol's writing exhibits thoughtful, intelligent and especially sensitive insight in discussing IBS from the perspectives of biology, psychology, and personality. Then, she elaborates on a range of antidotes too numerous to detail in this space. The one thing that will forever stand out in my mind after reading this book is the absolutely outstanding sensitivity with which the author discusses the psychological and emotional aspects linked to IBS. Her writing is simple and personable, and she doesn't talk down to the reader by throwing in tons of technical terms. The section on diet is very good, but the greatest comfort comes from someone who knows how you feel, and who looks at every angle imaginable in helping you find solutions to this bothersome condition. I give this my highest recommendation.

So thankful for this book
This book has given me hope that there is relief from my IBS. It explains this condition in a way anyone can understand. I discovered things that might be contributing to my symptoms that I had no idea were even remotely related to IBS. It gives a comprehensive overview of the many treatments available, focusing on the natural and homeopathic. I have begun implementing many of the dietary and lifestyle changes covered in this book and look forward to feeling better. I am already feeling better, knowing that I am taking a proactive role in regards to my health. This book has given me the motivation and knowledge to take control of my own health and life again.

THE BEST AND MOST DELICIOUS RECIPES! WHAT A GIFT!
THIS BOOK IS A KEEPER, FOREVER AND EVER. I FELT I WAS TRAVELING THE WHOLE HEMISPHERE WITHOUT LEAVING MY BED! NOT ONLY ARE THE RECIPES DIFFERENT, IMPRESSIVE AND EASY TO PREPARE, THIS BOOK IS A TREASURE OF CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY ABOUT THE MANY LATINO GROUPS WITHIN OUR OWN USA BORDERS. I LEARNED CULTURE AND GOT A FEW LAUGHS AND IMMEDIATELY TRIED SOME RECIPES THAT REALLY IMPRESSED MY FAMILY. IT'S THE BEST COOKBOOK I'VE EVER HAD. IF THE AUTHORS READ THIS, I'D LIKE TO REALLY CONGRATULATE THEM FROM MY HEART!

A great resource for Latin American cookery!
This book features a wide variety of recipes from across the spectrum of Latin American cookery, including contributions by notables Celia Cruz, Cristina Saralegui and others.

Our favorites have been the "Latin from Manhattan" chicken soup, pork and rice, black bean soup, chicken fricasee *and* the Guatamelan coffee. And this Thanksgiving I will be making the wine-infused turkey! Other recipes include pasteles, chicken and beef dishes, milk shakes and desserts.

There are also interesting side articles such as "How Jamaican beef patties came to be sold in New York pizzerias" (I had always wondered about that!)

A great resource for the novice or experienced cook!

Making the Most of Today
I've used this book in my special education classroom and now in my school counseling program---students gravitate toward it! It's moving and thought provoking! I love having this book as a resource on my shelf!

Makes the most of tomorrow too!
An otherwise boisterous group of 12 and 13 year olds sit silently when I read the daily passage from this book to the 7th grade homeroom. Now I don't even have to tell them to listen. I just open the book and start reading, and they quiet each other down. We enjoy the quotes, reflect on the explanations, and often refer back to a previously read page when someone needs encouragement or a fresh perspective. This is the sort of book that has the power to instil positive ethics and character in the young people of today, while building their self esteem and problem solving strategies. It fosters positive communication and acceptance of diversity. It came with the classroom I inherited mid-year, but I'll be buying several copies to give as gifts.
