I discovered this book quite by accident while weeding the reference collection of the public library in which I work.
"Where do you keep the historical fiction?" and "Where can I find a historical fiction book about the [Civil War | Revolutionary War | French and Indian War | War of 1812 | Oregon Trail | original 13 colonies | etc. etc.]" are questions that come up nearly every day in my line of work.
Until I found this book, I had to rely largely on memory from my own childhood or from classes I had taken in graduate school to make recommendations.
This book is well organized, possessed of a useful index, and true to its task.

Highly recommended for teachers, librarians, and parents alike.

This is a great book for all ages! The characters grab your attention and draw you in to their world. It is very educational as well as entertaining. This is a must have for Christmas and all through the year!

Congratulation for your book, but the title is too general because arabic cooking is not the same from North Africa to Persic Golf. In North Africa which is an Arabic continent Some of this country (Algeria, Morocco, Tunes, Libia) rice is not part of daily food but in Libano, Siria, irak... it 's like bread for them. In North Africa they eat CUSCUS, in Lebano, siria, egipt... they do not eat it daily or is not a traditional food. I am only clearing up some word "arabic" but I congratulate you.

I've seen many books (hardcover) on blackwork, but none like this one! All patterns are large enough to read without having to enlarge them. Also included are projects to stitch your blackwork on! Most blackwork books are mostly on it's history and very little usable patterns.

In January I visited New York City for a few days. One night my friend and I happened to walk past the Museum Of American Folk Art, and saw something going on inside that involved wine and cheese. We took the bait, paid our admission/donation and joined the tour of the exhibit, which to our tremendous enjoyment, was the artwork of Nellie May Rowe,. The tour was given by the author of this book, Lee Kogan. Not only was this most definitely one of the best things I ever did on the spur of the moment, but the book is one of the nicest things I ever purchased on impulse.

Nellie May Rowe's art combined with Lee Kogan's insight make for a powerful and strangely personal experience. We are given mystifyingly beautiful portraits of a woman's inner life and outer circumstance. The images embrace and thereby transcend the small human details that , by the nature of the beast itself, exist to be integrated into what I believe is the creation of real magic. Real magic doen't take shortcuts.

Lee Kogan graciously signed the book for my daughter, saying that Nellie May Rowe's energy, spirit and marvelous art inspire us all, and this is certainly true: If I may be so bold as to take a quote from the book, from the writings of James Baldwin: "..go back to where you started, or as far back as you can, examine all of it, travel your road again and tell the truth about it. Sing or shout or testify or keep it to yourself; but know whence you came"

i could not put this book down it kept a hold of me and i truly fell in love with the hero he reminds me of my husband.

My grandson (5) was immediately captivated when given this delightful book. He enjoyed the story and had great fun with the stickers. The book is not only well-written, but sturdily constructed and will provide many hours of fun and blessing.

The perfect way to share your heart... The illustrations complement a touching story for all ages...with very minor religious tones. We share this book every year during the holidays with new found friends, teachers and family. Our girls, now 7 & 4, have this book tagged as a "KEEPER" in their library of places to go without leaving your room.
As long as we can find it in print...we will keep sharing it with others.

This book outlines the steps involved in making round oak baskets (not the basket shape but the material), and a profile of a rare and gentle man. Worth reading, good instructions.
