Highly informative book filled with engaging activities
As an elementary school teacher, I was thrilled to discover this unique book, filled with child-tested activities that would enhance any nature/science curriculum. These activities, which focus on the vital role predators play in nature, are multisensory (one of my favorites is making paper wings that approximate the wingspan of a bird of prey) and cross-disciplinary (using math skills to see how quickly prey species grow or to figure out how many voles a coyote eats in a week -- 126!). All the information is clear and thorough and the authors include listings of useful resources.

Totally fantastic!
This is one of my favorite theory books, not too heavy handed and some really thoughtful work. I just loved it, espically Dr. Jackson's ideas about the Faust and Frankenstien legands. Anyone who's looking for something to start with regarding the fantasy and horror genres should really pick this one up. It's really great!

Another winner for Rosemary Wells!
"Felix Feels Better" tells the story of a little guinea pig's first visit to the doctor with sensitivity and understanding. The text is simple and straightforward, making it easy for a young listener to relate to the plight of the little piggie who eats too many treats before bedtime, then wakes up feeling "not very perky." Rosemary Wells' pictures are a perfect accompaniment to the text. The smallest child will see himself and his fears in going to the doctor for the first time eased by the gentle story of Felix and Dr. Duck, as Felix literally bounces back by the end of the book!

Never a Miss!
Every time I make the Chicken and Cheese Plait my guests ask not only for the recipe, but to borrow this entire book. Rightly so. All of the recipes are yummy to view and to eat, as well as healthy and incredibly easy to make. Buy this book! Buy extras, you'll be asked for them.

A well written romance, hard to put down until the end
When I read "Flyboy," I felt so sympathetic with the main character, and the romance wasn't a lame happly-ever after fairy tale romance. It contained a scandel of an unknown child to the father, hurt feelings after the truth got out, and finally a love that sprung out of the occurance

Frontier wolf
Published in Unknown Binding by Oxford University Press ()
Author: Rosemary Sutcliff

Another classic Sutcliff book
FRONTIER WOLF is the story of Alexios Flavius Aquila, (a descendant of Marcus of EAGLE OF THE NINTH), a young Centurion in the Roman Legions. After a tragic mistake that causes the loss of most of his men, he is sent up North, beyond the Wall, to command the irregular troops, the "Frontier Wolves". But though Alexios makes friends among the Wolves and tribesmen of the Votadini, his history seems to be repeating itself when the tribesmen rise in revolt and Alexios and his Wolves are forced to flee...

I found FRONTIER WOLF to be another great book, and it has a happier ending than most of Sutcliff's bittersweet endings. The writing is excellent, the characters and their dilemmas gripping. To say more would be to spoil this wonderful book.

Gates as art and praticality
Because we have moved to a small Sierra town where we have a cottage garden as well as a quaint garden gate, rock walls and wire fence I found this book which is shy 100 pages to be visually appealing as well as helpful. The book is about 5X7 in size but the text and photographs are lucicous.

The gate on page 60 is right out of one of my favorite books THE SECRET GARDEN. But the author begins her text by saying "Gates have many purposes-practical. romantic and ornamental.... And I think they also have a rich history. Personally I prefer the rock walled gardens of Ireland Scotland and England which often have quaint wooden gates.
