Munbaz who? He really was someone special!
Munbaz was an ancient king who was very aware of the people in need around him. Tzedaka - the act of giving - was his strong suit. This book has an article about him and about many many other heroes - Mitzva - the Hebrew/Yiddish slang for "Good Deed".

I enjoyed this book and it is really inspiring to see how many Good People are out there doing Good Deeds.

tatistical analysis witha human face
An excellent work for anyone who works with troubled youth or just wants to learn more about the problems faced by teens on the streets. It focuses attention on the problems faced by children that leave them more at risk for running away, the factors that make it more likely for them to be victimized once on the streets, and what tools enable them to move on to a housed/jobbed future. The book does contain statistical analysis of the data they gathred in a multiple year study of homeless teens in small to medium sized midwestern cities, but is filled with lively writing accesible to the non-academic as well, topped off with sparkling and heartbreaking bon mots of life on the streets. A powerful work that looks at a little known face of homelessness, younger people in places where there aren't supposed to be any homeless. Quantitative Sociology with soul, statistical analysis with a human face.

Great Book - A must read for Christians
This book really sets the standard in my opinion, especially for books that specifically deal with the American Restoration Movement of the early 19th Century. It discusses our past as well as potential futures. There is so much meat in the book that it will take several reads to really get it all. I was challenged by this book to really strive for all that the church should and can be. I encourage you to get this book and read it over and over.

The Peaceful Path of Prosperity: Practical and Spiritual Approaches to Enrich Your Life With Your Inner Wealth

Common Sense and Practical Advice
This book is wonderfully written and the concepts are easy to follow and understand. In an age where the desire to "leave the rat race" is an impossible dream due to the confines of internal and external turmoil, when combined with the pressures to "get ahead" financially so a better quality of life can presumably be achieved...the result is a complete breakdown of moral, ethical, spiritual and personal awareness.

Mr. Babineaux's philosophy is that of learning to listen to the voice within (the Creator) and disregarding the enticement of the what we think we want to be or need in order to be "prosperous"; the Imposter. It's like being in a comfort zone that attracts all of the good things in life we are looking for. For those us who are able to consciously slip ourselves in and out of this zone, this book affirms that we "get it".

For those of us who are not able to do so, this book explains how to find that comfort zone...and once we're there, how to let go and let yourself partner with the spiritual and natural forces that surround us to build up and attract inner peace and inner wealth.

For the record, I am 37 years old and consider myself to be fabulously wealthy by Mr. Babineaux's standards. I want my husband to read this book NOW. He's 41 and embroiled in the inner-struggle of "I'm over 40 and I STILL haven't made something of myself. I'm a worthless nobody...." He chases what he thinks is a chance at prosperity (i.e. "I hope this opportunity takes off and I can earn a lot of money to get myself out of the black whole called debt"...) and then is crushed when it eludes him.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who feels the same way my husband does, or if you have been effected by recent tragic events, illness or career/life frustration and stagnation.

Mr. Babineaux is right. Find the peaceful comfort zone within and let everything else around you that brings material prosperity come to you like a moth to the flame.

Perspectives in Critical Thinking: Essays by Teachers in Theory and Practice (Counterpoints: Studies in the Postmodern Theory of Education)

The book combines both theory and practice
This book is an excellent resource as to what teachers are doing throughout the United States and why. The book supplies practical discussions in teacher talk for those practitioners looking to understand more about critical theory and the affect of such theory on classroom practice. The authors are from diverse backgrounds, ranging from Native Americans to African-American authors. the book is targeted towards both primary and secondary teaching. I found the book insightful and hopeful in both its approach and content. An excellent addition to critical pedagogy.

Korem entertainingly exposes paranormal frauds.
Korem's book is quite entertaining. He exposes psychics on a talk show, and a self-acclaimed and notorious master of ESP. Best part is, Korem details how he exposed them, and how these people managed to deceive people. I highly recommend it, especially if you have ever wondered how psychics were so good at what they do. Korem shows how anyone can be a psychic by mastering a few psychological tricks.

The Production of Grapes & Wine in Cool Climates

A gem for the new grapegrower
As a complete beginner to viticulture I have found this book absolutely invaluable. It covers all aspects of cool-climate grapegrowing in a readable and accessible manner, with clear text and diagrams concerning site and variety selection, planting, establishment, pruning and training, pests and diseases, and winemaking. The section on grape varieties has excellent photographs, and a superb introduction gives an overview of the cooler grape-producing regions of the world. Written in New Zealand, this is however a "must" for all new grapegrowers, no matter where the "terroir". My copy is starting to show signs of over-use!
